Use the phone’s built-in updater for a routine Nothing OS upgrade: connect to stable Wi‑Fi, back up important data, charge to at least 50% (or leave the phone connected to a charger), then open Settings > System > System Update. Download the offered package over Wi‑Fi and follow the installation prompt. During installation, do not press the power button or use the phone; let it restart and complete the process.
These steps come from Nothing’s general online-upgrade and OTA-installation guidance. The update shown depends on your specific phone, installed build and rollout status, so the procedure cannot promise that a particular version will appear on every device at the same time.
What a Nothing OS update does
A system update is software supplied for the phone itself. Nothing says updates may fix software issues and can sometimes add features or optimise performance; the company does not state that every update contains all of those changes. Read the release information shown on your phone before installing so you know what that particular package is intended to change. Prepare the phone before checking
Preparation reduces the chance that a download or installation is interrupted. Nothing’s OTA guide recommends stable Wi‑Fi, a battery level of at least 50% or keeping the phone connected to a charger, and a backup of important data. Use the higher 50% figure as the routine preparation target even though Nothing’s troubleshooting article gives a lower threshold for retrying a failed upgrade.
Use a stable Wi‑Fi connection
Connect to a Wi‑Fi network that is working reliably before you begin. A weak or fluctuating connection can leave an OTA package damaged or incomplete, according to Nothing’s troubleshooting guidance. If the network repeatedly drops, wait until you can use a more stable connection rather than starting a download that may need to be repeated.
Reach the recommended charge level
Charge the phone to at least 50%, or keep it connected to a charger throughout the preparation and installation. Nothing’s installation instructions present 50% as the conservative recommendation. In its separate failure guidance, Nothing says more than 40% charge is required before retrying an OTA upgrade. Those figures serve different purposes: 50% is the normal preparation advice, while over 40% is the stated troubleshooting minimum.

Back up important information
Make a current backup of information you cannot replace, such as photos, contacts, documents and authenticator or messaging data that your chosen backup method supports. Nothing recommends backing up important data before an OTA installation. A backup is a precaution; it is not a substitute for following the on-screen update instructions.

Check available storage
Leave enough free storage for the downloaded package and the installation process. Nothing identifies insufficient storage as one possible reason an OTA upgrade will not work. The support instructions do not state a universal free-space number, because the requirement can vary by phone model and package. If storage is nearly full, make space before retrying rather than deleting files while the upgrade is running.
Download and install the update
Once the phone is prepared, use this sequence. The labels below match Nothing’s generic online-upgrade instructions; wording can vary slightly with the phone model or installed Nothing OS build.
- Connect to Wi‑Fi. Confirm that the phone shows a stable Wi‑Fi connection and that you are not relying on a weak or intermittent signal.
- Secure the battery. Confirm at least 50% charge, or connect the phone to a charger. Keep the charger connected if you prefer not to rely on the battery during the process.
- Protect important data. Verify that your important information has been backed up before starting the download.
- Open the updater. Go to Settings > System > System Update. The phone will check for an available Nothing OS package. Nothing documents this path in its online software-upgrade instructions.
- Review the offer. If an update is displayed, read the version or change information shown on the screen. The generic instructions do not establish which version any particular model should receive, so use the details presented for your own device.
- Download over Wi‑Fi. Start the download when you are ready. Keep the phone on the stable network until the package is fully downloaded.
- Start installation when prompted. Accept the on-screen installation command. The phone may warn that it will restart; save any work before confirming because the device will be unavailable while the upgrade is applied.
- Leave the phone alone. Do not press the power button, use the touchscreen for unrelated tasks or perform other actions during the upgrade. Nothing’s instruction is explicit: “Don’t press the power button or perform any actions during the upgrade process, and wait for the update to be completed.”
- Allow the restart. Let the phone restart by itself and finish applying the package. Do not disconnect a charger unnecessarily or attempt to force a restart while the installation is in progress.
- Wait for confirmation. After installation, Nothing says the phone restarts and then shows confirmation that it has been updated. Wait for the normal lock or home screen, then return to the update screen if you need to verify the installed status.
What to do while installation is running
The restart and installation can look different from a normal boot. A progress indicator, a temporarily unavailable screen or more than one restart does not by itself mean the process has failed. The important safety rule is to avoid interaction until the phone completes the upgrade. Pressing the power button, attempting to use apps or interrupting the process can leave the update unfinished.

Keep the phone in a place where it will not lose its Wi‑Fi connection before the download completes and where the charging cable will not be pulled out accidentally. The official guidance does not provide a guaranteed installation time, so do not treat a particular number of minutes as a failure threshold. If the device is still visibly processing the upgrade, continue to wait rather than repeatedly pressing buttons.

After the phone restarts
Confirm that the update completed
Nothing’s OTA installation steps say the phone restarts after installation and displays confirmation that it has been updated. Once the normal interface is available, open Settings > System > System Update again if you want to check the status shown there. Record the displayed software version if you need to contact support; the model, version and any error text help support identify the situation.
Check the phone before returning to normal use
Give the phone a moment to finish its normal startup before launching demanding tasks. Confirm that you can unlock it, connect to your network and open the settings screen. If something appears wrong, note exactly what you see instead of repeatedly restarting or attempting an unapproved installation. Nothing’s published instructions focus on completing the OTA process and contacting support when the problem persists.
If no update appears
If Settings > System > System Update reports that no update is available, Nothing’s generic online guide says the phone has the latest version available to it at that check. That result does not establish a future rollout date or prove that every model or region is on the same build. Rollouts can be specific to a model, software build or market, and the supplied generic guidance does not state a schedule.
Do not download a random package from a forum simply because another phone has received an update. First confirm that the phone is connected to stable Wi‑Fi and that you are checking the exact system-update screen. If you believe an expected update is missing, provide Nothing Support with the phone model, current software version and any message shown by the updater. Those details are more useful than assuming that a package intended for another model is compatible.

Troubleshoot an OTA failure methodically
Nothing’s troubleshooting article identifies four practical checks: network signal, available storage, battery charge and interruption during the upgrade. Work through them in that order, then retry the built-in updater. Its guidance warns that an unstable network can damage or incompletely download the package.
1. Re-establish a reliable connection
If the download stops, fails verification or appears incomplete, check the Wi‑Fi signal and connection stability. Move to a location with a stronger signal or use another reliable Wi‑Fi network. Avoid starting the download while the connection is repeatedly dropping. Nothing’s wording is specific: “An unstable network may cause the downloaded upgrade package to be damaged or incomplete.” After restoring a stable connection, return to Settings > System > System Update and retry.
2. Free sufficient storage
Check the phone’s available storage and remove or move unnecessary files before trying again if space is low. Nothing does not publish one universal storage amount in the cited troubleshooting instructions, so do not treat a number from another model as a guaranteed requirement for yours. Make the space before starting the retry, not during installation.
3. Raise the battery level
For a normal attempt, follow the 50% preparation recommendation or leave the charger connected. If you are specifically retrying after an OTA failure, Nothing says the phone must have more than 40% charge. Reaching 50% still gives the more conservative margin. If the phone is below that level, charge it before opening the updater again.

4. Retry after an interruption
If you pressed the power button, used the phone or otherwise interrupted the process, restart the phone and perform the upgrade again, as Nothing’s troubleshooting advice directs. During the second attempt, do not interact with the device once installation starts. Allow the restart and completion screens to appear without forcing another reboot.
5. Contact Nothing when the problem remains
If the built-in update continues to fail after the network, storage, charge and interruption checks, contact Nothing Customer Support. Include the exact phone model, the installed software version, the point at which the process failed and any error message. Keep the package and failure details available; do not replace the official process with an unverified file while waiting for help. Nothing’s troubleshooting guidance directs users to support when the issue persists.
Official OTA updating versus manual firmware installation
For an ordinary Nothing OS update, the documented choice is the built-in OTA route. It checks from the phone’s own system-update screen and handles the download and restart sequence there. The checked Nothing Software Download page lists downloads for Nothing X and the CMF Watch app; on the page reviewed, it does not list a Nothing OS phone firmware package or manual installation instructions.

Because the available official instructions do not establish manual-installation equivalence, this guide does not recommend unlocking a bootloader, factory-resetting the phone or flashing firmware as a response to a routine OTA failure. Those actions are outside the cited recovery procedure and can create separate data or compatibility risks.
A practical safety checklist
Use this checklist immediately before selecting the install command:
- The phone is connected to stable Wi‑Fi.
- Important data has been backed up.
- The battery is at least 50%, or the phone is connected to a charger.
- There is enough available storage for the download and installation.
- You have saved any work that would be lost when the phone restarts.
- You know not to press the power button or use the phone once installation begins.
- You can leave the phone undisturbed until it restarts and shows completion.
If an update fails, use the same checklist plus the troubleshooting threshold of more than 40% charge stated by Nothing, then retry from the built-in system-update screen. If the second attempt still fails, send the model, software version and error details to Nothing Support rather than escalating to an unofficial installation method.
Key limits of the generic instructions
Nothing’s public guidance used here is model-neutral. It does not identify a current Nothing OS version for your particular phone, guarantee when a rollout will reach a specific region, state a download size or installation duration, or provide a universal storage requirement. Those values can differ by device and package. The reliable part that applies across the documented routine is the process: check the system-update screen, use stable Wi‑Fi, prepare the battery and backup, then let the phone complete the restart without interference.
