The reliable way to show personal photos or artwork on an art TV is to use the display’s built-in photo feature: upload images from a phone, import them from a USB drive, or link an approved cloud photo source. Samsung The Frame, LG TVs with Gallery+, and photo-frame devices that offer Google Photos all support personal-image workflows, but the exact menu, file support, software version, account requirement, and regional availability depend on the model.

Choose the right way to get images onto your TV

Start by identifying where your pictures live and whether you want a one-time copy or an album that remains connected to an account. A phone upload is usually the quickest route when your images are already on a mobile device. USB import is useful when you have edited files on a computer or want a local copy without linking a cloud account. A cloud source such as Google Photos is convenient for supported devices because the TV can draw from selected albums instead of requiring every image to be copied into television storage.

Route Image source What happens on the TV Important eligibility checks
SmartThings upload on Samsung The Frame Phone images selected in SmartThings Saved on The Frame, then selected in My Collection Samsung Account, internet connection, compatible The Frame model and software
USB import on Samsung The Frame Files on a USB storage device connected to the One Connect Box Selected images are saved in My Collection → My Photos USB and image compatibility for the exact model
LG Gallery+ External device, LG ThinQ mobile device, or linked Google Photos Chosen photos can be set as wallpaper Model running webOS 25 or later, country availability, and any required update or account link
Google Photos on a supported photo-frame device Selected Google Photos albums or other offered collections Photo-frame slideshow uses the linked account The particular device must list Google Photos as a photo-frame source; some features are region-dependent

These routes are not interchangeable. A television may have a USB media player but no way to copy those images into its art-mode library. Conversely, a model may offer a cloud album while lacking a phone-upload option. Check the exact model’s support page or manual before preparing a large collection.

Before you begin

  • Add The Frame to the SmartThings app and make sure the TV is reachable on the internet.
  • Sign in with a Samsung Account; Samsung says SmartThings use requires an account and an internet connection.
  • Edit, crop, rotate, or otherwise prepare each image before uploading. Samsung says the TV itself cannot edit uploaded photos.
  • Confirm that the phone and TV are using the intended accounts if more than one Samsung Account is present.

Upload and select an image

  1. Open SmartThings and select your The Frame device entry.
  2. Open Art Mode.
  3. Tap Add Your Photos. This is Samsung Support’s documented menu wording; labels can vary with model software.
  4. Select the images on your phone and save them to The Frame.
  5. Return to the TV’s art library and choose the saved image for display.

Samsung also documents slideshow selection and artistic effects for uploaded photos. Use those controls when you want a rotating gallery rather than one fixed picture. Because the image is saved on the TV after the upload, it can remain available even when the phone is not nearby; the initial SmartThings setup still depends on the account and network requirements above.

Make a photo look more like framed art

The Frame can apply a matte style and color to artwork. Art Mode also includes brightness and color-tone controls. Samsung describes ambient-light adjustment and motion sensing, so the appearance can change with room lighting and installation conditions. Treat these as display controls, not photo-editing tools: make composition and crop changes on your phone or computer first, then upload the finished file.

Import photos to Samsung The Frame from a USB drive

USB is a practical alternative when your originals are on a computer, when a wireless upload is inconvenient, or when you want to transfer a selected set of finished files. Samsung explicitly documents adding personal photos with a USB storage device.

Copy images into The Frame’s collection

  1. Put the prepared image files on a USB storage device.
  2. Connect the USB device to the One Connect Box associated with The Frame.
  3. Enter Art Mode on the TV.
  4. Open My Collection and select the connected USB device.
  5. Choose the images to save to the TV.
  6. Wait for the save operation to finish. Do not remove the USB device while images are being saved.
  7. Open My Collection → My Photos to find the imported files, then select the image you want displayed.

USB cautions

There is no single cross-model USB capacity, file-format, resolution, or dimension rule established for every The Frame generation. Use the manual for your exact model before buying a drive or exporting a large batch. Samsung’s instructions identify the One Connect Box and the save process, but they do not make every USB drive universally compatible. If a drive is not recognized, test the model-approved format and a smaller set of files rather than assuming the photos themselves are defective.

Use LG Gallery+ to set personal photos as wallpaper

LG Gallery+ can use photos from connected external devices, LG ThinQ mobile devices, or Google Photos as wallpaper. LG states that Gallery+ is supported on models running webOS 25 or later. Availability and supported content vary by country, and some models may receive the service only after a software update.

Check Gallery+ eligibility

  • Open the TV’s software information and verify that it runs webOS 25 or later.
  • Check whether Gallery+ is offered in your country and on your exact model.
  • Install any model-approved software update if LG indicates that Gallery+ is delivered through an update.
  • If you plan to use Google Photos, have the Google Account credentials ready for the linking step.

Choose a source in Gallery+

  1. Open Gallery+ from the TV’s app or home interface.
  2. Choose the source offered by your model: a connected external device, an LG ThinQ mobile device, or Google Photos.
  3. For Google Photos, follow the on-screen account-linking process and grant the requested access.
  4. Pick the photo or collection and set it as the wallpaper or gallery content.

The available source list is itself a model-and-region check. If one option is missing, that does not indicate a general LG limitation; it may reflect the TV’s webOS version, country service availability, or a feature that has not yet been enabled for that model.

View photos from a USB device on an LG TV

LG’s general USB photo workflow is separate from Gallery+. It lets you browse files on connected storage through the TV’s USB input or Media Player.

  1. Connect the storage device to the TV.
  2. Select the USB input or open Media Player.
  3. Choose the storage device and browse to the folder containing the images.
  4. Select a file to display it, or use the player’s available slideshow controls.

LG recommends FAT32 or NTFS formatting for USB storage and cautions that larger-capacity devices may not work smoothly. The practical limit is model-specific, so check the support page for the exact television. USB viewing also does not automatically mean that files can be imported into an art-mode library; use Gallery+ or the model’s documented save command when you need persistent wallpaper.

Show Google Photos on a supported photo-frame device

Google Photos can be a convenient source when the display explicitly supports it as a photo-frame option. Google’s instructions describe selecting Google Photos during device setup or later in device settings, then linking a Google Account.

Set up the source

  1. During device setup, or from the device’s photo-frame settings, choose Google Photos as the slideshow source.
  2. Link the Google Account that owns the desired library.
  3. Select from the collections the device offers, such as chosen albums, favorites, shared albums, or people and pets where available.
  4. If offered, choose the automatically curated Photo Frame highlights album.
  5. Save the setting and verify that the slideshow is drawing from the intended account and collection.

Google says Photos automatically curates and updates a “best of” album from your library. Curation choices and other features can depend on region. Do not assume that every Google TV or smart display supports Google Photos as a frame source; verify the particular device’s settings and documentation first.

Prepare image files before transferring them

The official instructions reviewed for these platforms do not establish one universal file-format or resolution requirement. A file that works on one model may be rejected, shown with borders, or unavailable for art mode on another. Use the exact TV manual to confirm supported formats, maximum resolution, orientation, dimensions, and USB limits.

  • Keep a master copy of each artwork outside the TV and cloud account before transferring it.
  • Export a display-ready copy after cropping for the TV’s orientation; remember that The Frame cannot edit photos after upload.
  • Use clear filenames and folders when transferring many files so you can identify the intended set on the TV.
  • Start with a small test batch. Confirm that each image opens and fills the screen as expected before copying the complete collection.
  • For USB workflows, safely finish the TV’s save operation before disconnecting the drive.

Choose between local storage, phone control, and cloud albums

Question SmartThings on The Frame USB import or viewing LG Gallery+ or Google Photos source
Where are files selected? SmartThings phone app USB device connected to the TV or One Connect Box Gallery+ source picker or linked Google Photos account
Are images copied to TV storage? Samsung saves selected uploads on The Frame The Frame can save selected files; ordinary USB browsing on LG displays files from the device Depends on the service and model; the documented workflow uses the selected source
Account needed? Samsung Account and internet connection Not stated as required for the physical transfer itself Google Account when linking Google Photos; LG ThinQ requirements depend on the model
Best fit Phone-based selection and quick updates Computer-prepared files or offline transfer Albums that should remain connected to a cloud library

If your priority is keeping the television independent of an online account after setup, a documented local import is the clearest choice. If you frequently change albums, a phone or linked-cloud workflow avoids repeatedly handling a USB device. If you want licensed or curated artwork in addition to your own work, Samsung Art Store and LG Gallery+ are separate content-service options; personal-photo display does not require buying those catalogs.

Troubleshoot common display problems

The phone cannot find The Frame

  • Confirm that the TV has been added to SmartThings and that you are signed in to the required Samsung Account.
  • Check the TV’s internet connection, then reopen the device entry in SmartThings.
  • Use the documented path Art Mode → Add Your Photos rather than the television’s general media browser.
  • If the option is absent, verify the model and software version against Samsung’s current support instructions.

The USB drive is visible but an image will not display

  • Confirm that the drive is connected to the correct port; The Frame’s import path uses the One Connect Box.
  • Try a smaller set of files and check the exact model’s supported formats and limits.
  • For LG, use FAT32 or NTFS as recommended by LG Support, while recognizing that capacity behavior remains model-specific.
  • Do not unplug a drive while The Frame is saving images.

Gallery+ or Google Photos is missing

  • Check whether the LG TV runs webOS 25 or later and whether Gallery+ is offered in your country.
  • Install a model-approved update if LG says the service may arrive through software.
  • On a photo-frame device, verify that Google Photos is an explicitly supported photo-frame source; support is not universal.
  • Relink the intended Google Account if the available albums or favorites are not the ones you expect.

The picture looks poorly framed

Re-edit the source image on a phone or computer, then upload or import the revised copy. The Frame does not edit photos on the TV. Also test Art Mode’s matte, brightness, and color-tone controls; ambient-light adjustment and motion sensing can affect how the finished image appears in the room.

Protect your artwork and account access

Uploading an image to a television is not a substitute for a backup. Keep originals and high-resolution masters on a computer or other storage you control. For cloud workflows, confirm which Google Account is linked and review the albums selected for display, especially when shared albums include other people’s images. Remove transferred copies or unlink an account when a television is sold, moved to a shared space, or given to another household.

Which method should you use?

Use SmartThings when you own a compatible Samsung The Frame and want the simplest phone-controlled upload. Use The Frame’s USB import when your finished files are on a computer or you prefer a local transfer. Use LG Gallery+ when your LG model meets the webOS, country, and update requirements and you want external-device, ThinQ, or Google Photos sources in one gallery interface. Use Google Photos directly only when the particular photo-frame device lists it as a supported source. In every case, verify the exact model’s file and storage requirements before committing your full collection.
