Keep the LEGO The Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 (set 77092) in a dry place away from direct sunlight, heaters and other heat sources. LEGO says temperatures above 104°F (40°C) and direct sun can make bricks brittle or discolored over time. An enclosed case can reduce dust, but it must fit the version and base you actually build, and a seller’s “UV protected” label is not proof that the model is safe in direct sun.
What you are displaying: set 77092
LEGO’s Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 is a 2,500-piece, 18+ display set. You build either an Ocarina of Time version or a Breath of the Wild version; both are not assembled at the same time. LEGO lists the Ocarina of Time tree at over 13 inches (33 cm) tall and the Breath of the Wild tree at over 12 inches (31 cm) tall. Those figures are model heights, not complete case requirements: the base, branches and any protruding details determine the space your enclosure needs.
Check the current specifications on LEGO’s product page for set 77092. Because the page does not provide a complete footprint for every build and base arrangement, measure your finished model rather than ordering a case from height alone.
Why sunlight and heat are the main risks
LEGO’s storage guidance says bricks should be kept in a dry place away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It specifically warns that temperatures exceeding 104°F (40°C) may cause bricks to become brittle or discolor over time. Apply that advice conservatively to the assembled tree: a sunny windowsill, a spot beside a radiator, or a hot enclosed cabinet is a poor location.

This is general care guidance, not a guaranteed service-life prediction for set 77092. The material, color, exposure time, glass or acrylic in front of it, and room conditions all affect the result. No independent source establishes a percentage of fading, a safe number of hours in the sun, or a guaranteed lifespan for this model.

Choose a location before you choose a case
Start with the room and viewing position. A good display location solves heat and light problems before an enclosure is added.
- Use indirect light. Place the tree on an interior wall or where curtains, blinds or the building itself block direct rays. Bright ambient light is preferable to a beam of sun falling on the model.
- Stay away from heat sources. Do not put it above a radiator, next to a heater, against a hot appliance or in a cabinet that warms noticeably during the day.
- Avoid hot windows and conservatories. Even when sunlight is filtered, a glass-fronted space can become much hotter than the rest of the room.
- Keep the support stable. Select a level, weight-bearing shelf with enough depth for the base and enough clearance to lift the model out without catching branches.
- Leave a cleaning path. You should be able to reach the front, sides and top of the case or open display. A location that cannot be accessed encourages dust to accumulate.
If the only available shelf receives direct sun for part of the day, move the display or control the light with blinds or curtains instead of relying on a case marketed as UV resistant.

Open display or enclosed case?
Both approaches can work when the location is suitable. The choice is mainly between access and dust control.

A specialist seller lists a case made for set 77092 at this 77092 display-case page. The listing describes the product as “UV Protected & Dust Proof.” Those are the seller’s terms. The available information does not include an independent UV-transmission measurement, a test report or a guaranteed dust-seal rating, so treat the wording as a vendor claim rather than proof that direct sunlight is harmless.
Measure your completed build for a reliable fit
LEGO publishes the two model heights, but not a complete case footprint. Measure after you have selected the version and finished the base.
- Build the version you intend to display. The Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild configurations have different shapes and heights. Do not measure one and buy a case for the other.
- Include the entire base. Measure the widest and deepest points of the base, not just the trunk. Include any plate, stand or custom support that will remain inside the case.
- Measure maximum height. Measure from the bottom of the base to the highest leaf, branch or other fixed detail. Use the taller Ocarina of Time figure—over 13 inches (33 cm)—only as a reference; your clearance must be based on your own model.
- Record width and depth. Extend a straightedge or ruler to the furthest protruding details in each direction. Branches can exceed the apparent width of the trunk.
- Add working clearance. Leave room above and around the model so a panel does not touch it and so you can place or remove the build without snagging parts. The amount depends on the case design and your handling method; it is not specified by LEGO.
- Check the opening and access route. A case can have adequate internal dimensions yet be unusable if its door, lid or front opening is too small to pass the assembled tree and base.
- Compare the seller’s internal dimensions, not external dimensions. Ask for dimensions if they are not published. Confirm the material, panel thickness and base lip do not reduce the usable interior.
Repeat the check if you rebuild the set. A case that fits one configuration may not fit the other, and a modified or custom base can exceed the dimensions of the standard display.

How to manage dust on an open shelf
Open display is the simplest option, but it requires gentle, regular surface care. Use a clean, soft brush or microfiber cloth to lift dust rather than pressing it into the gaps. Work from higher surfaces downward so loosened dust does not settle on areas you have already cleaned.
- Support the base with one hand if brushing a branch or other delicate-looking section.
- Use light strokes and avoid pulling on small decorative elements.
- Keep the cleaning tool free of grit, polish and household chemicals.
- Clean the shelf and nearby surfaces at the same time; otherwise dust from the room will quickly return.
Do not spray cleaner onto the model. Aerosols can leave residue in crevices and may reach the shelf, wall or case materials.
Cleaning LEGO pieces safely
LEGO’s published cleaning instruction is for LEGO pieces generally: “We recommend that you clean your LEGO pieces by hand using water no hotter than 104°F / 40°C and a soft cloth or sponge.” The company also says not to use a washing machine or dishwasher, not to dry pieces with an oven, microwave or hair dryer, and not to leave them in direct sunlight to dry. Those instructions do not amount to a specific test of washing a fully assembled 2,500-piece Great Deku Tree. For a finished display, prefer dry, gentle dusting. If a mark requires deeper cleaning, consider cleaning accessible loose pieces separately rather than soaking the assembled model.

If you must clean a removable piece
- Remove the piece only if doing so will not destabilize the model.
- Use hand-cleaning water at or below 104°F (40°C) with a soft cloth or sponge.
- Rinse away any residue without using a dishwasher, washing machine or chemical cleaner.
- Allow the piece to air-dry indoors, away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Reattach it only when completely dry and when the surrounding structure is stable.
Never use an oven, microwave or hair dryer to accelerate drying. Heat can create the same brittleness or discoloration risk that makes a hot display location unsuitable.
What “UV protected” does—and does not—tell you
Ultraviolet exposure is one reason a seller may promote a display case as UV protected, but a label alone does not tell you how much UV the panels transmit, over what wavelength range, or for how long the performance is expected to last. The 77092 case listing mentioned above supplies marketing language, not an independent measurement in the information available here.
Use the claim as a reason to request documentation, not as permission to place the case in direct sun. If a seller supplies a transmission percentage, test standard, laboratory report and material details, check that those specifications apply to the panels you will receive. If no data is supplied, continue to follow LEGO’s storage advice and keep the case out of direct sunlight.

- Version compatibility: It accommodates the Ocarina of Time and/or Breath of the Wild configuration you plan to display.
- Internal height: The usable height exceeds your measured model height and leaves handling clearance.
- Internal footprint: The base fits without touching the panels or door.
- Protrusion clearance: Branches, leaves and other details have space on every side.
- Opening size: You can insert and remove the assembled model and base.
- Access for cleaning: Panels or doors can be opened without disassembling the tree.
- Dust design: Look for information about panel joins, doors and seals; do not assume a “dust proof” phrase is a measured rating.
- UV documentation: Treat “UV protected” as unverified unless the seller provides usable specifications or test results.
- Base compatibility: Confirm the case supports your standard or custom base and any display plinth you add.
Dimensions, materials, stock and prices can change, so confirm the current listing immediately before purchase.
Assembly and rebuild planning
Because 77092 is a rebuildable 2-in-1 set, decide which version will live in the case before you install the model. Photograph or record your measurements for that configuration. If you later switch versions, remove the tree carefully, remeasure the new height, width and depth, and check the case opening before moving it back inside.
Do not force a branch or leaf past a panel to make a marginal fit. Contact between the model and an enclosure can dislodge parts during insertion, and a tight fit leaves no practical way to dust the interior surfaces.

Plan a short route before lifting the model. Clear doors and shelves, remove obstacles, and use both hands under the base rather than lifting by the trunk or branches. If the model must be stored outside its display, choose a dry, temperature-controlled location away from direct sunlight and heat, following the same limits in LEGO’s storage guidance.
Keep the case panels and base protected from scratches while the model is out. Recheck the base for loose elements before reinstalling the tree, and confirm that no part touches the enclosure once the door or lid is closed.
A practical maintenance routine
At each normal room-cleaning session, inspect the display for three things: dust on exposed surfaces, a new beam of direct sunlight caused by seasonal light changes, and heat from nearby equipment. Correct the location first if light or heat has changed. Then dust the model lightly, clean the shelf or case exterior, and check that the enclosure still opens and closes without touching the build.
If you see fading, unusual brittleness or parts that no longer hold securely, move the model to a cooler, shaded location and avoid further handling until you can determine whether the issue is a loose connection, impact damage or environmental exposure. No published source provides a repair or replacement schedule specific to this set, so do not treat a case or cleaning routine as a guarantee against aging.

- Treat UV and dust-protection wording on a case listing as a seller claim unless test data is provided.
- Dust gently, use only LEGO’s stated hand-cleaning limits for removable pieces, and never use high-heat drying methods.
