If an application or its Flathub packaging contains material you know or reasonably believe was AI-generated, disclose it to Flathub. Identify the affected material, say which application or packaging component contains it, and give its approximate extent. Flathub does not currently prescribe a special listing field or a fixed sentence for this disclosure, so treat the wording below as a practical way to satisfy the information requirement—not as an official template.
What Flathub requires
Flathub’s official Requirements page states: “Submitters must disclose any AI-generated code, documentation, packaging, or other material they know or reasonably believe is included in the application or its Flathub packaging.” The rule is about material that ends up in the software or in the packaging submitted to Flathub, not every moment in which a developer happened to use an AI tool.
- Identify the material: say whether it is code, documentation, artwork, translations, build or packaging files, tests, or another included component.
- Identify where it appears: name the module, feature, document, runtime asset, build script, or packaging component affected.
- Estimate the extent: provide a useful approximation, such as a proportion of a module, number of files, lines, screens, paragraphs, or other measurable scope.
Flathub’s policy does not state that this information belongs in a particular MetaInfo element, manifest field, pull-request comment, or other named location. It also does not provide a standard sentence to copy. Do not describe a location as mandatory unless the current Flathub requirements or a reviewer specifically says so.

First decide whether the rule is triggered
Classify the AI activity by looking at the material that will actually be submitted. The following distinctions keep a disclosure accurate without turning ordinary tool use into an unnecessary declaration.

The key test is what remains in the application or its Flathub packaging. A conversation, suggestion, search result, or debugging exchange is not itself an included deliverable. If the exchange produced text, code, or another asset that you kept in the submission, treat that retained material as the relevant item to assess.
Inventory the application before writing the listing
A short inventory prevents both under-disclosure and vague over-disclosure. Perform it against the exact revision and packaging files you intend to submit.
- List shipped components. Record application source, bundled scripts, documentation, translations, images or other assets, tests that are distributed, build instructions, and Flathub packaging files.
- Mark AI involvement. For each component, note whether an AI system generated any retained material. Separate generated output from suggestions that were rejected or rewritten without retaining generated text or code.
- Check the packaging repository. Include files used to build or package the app, not just the runtime source tree.
- Measure approximately. Count affected files, estimate a percentage of a module, count documentation words or screens, or use another method that lets a reviewer understand scale.
- Review the manifest separately. Any AI-generated or AI-assisted content in a Flathub manifest must be removed; do not rely on the disclosure to cure it.
- Keep an internal record. Save the component name, approximate scope, and reviewer responsible for verification so the listing statement matches the submitted revision.
“AI was used in development” is too broad to be useful. A reviewer needs to know what was retained and where. Conversely, listing every rejected suggestion can obscure the material that actually matters.

A practical disclosure has three parts: the kind of generated material, its location or function, and its approximate extent. Add a brief quality or review note only if it helps explain how the material was checked; it does not replace the required identification.
Code example
AI-generated code: approximately 20% of the CSV import module in src/import/csv/, including the parser and validation helpers. Maintainers reviewed and tested the retained code.
Documentation example
AI-generated documentation: the installation and troubleshooting sections in docs/getting-started.md, approximately 1,200 words.

AI-generated material is included in two areas: roughly 10% of the settings UI code and the complete in-app privacy FAQ (about 600 words). No AI-generated or AI-assisted content is used in the Flathub manifest.
These are illustrative wordings, not quotations from Flathub. Replace the examples with facts about your own revision. If you cannot estimate a percentage reliably, use a concrete count or a bounded description such as “three of 18 packaging files” or “the two paragraphs describing export.” Avoid claiming that all code, all documentation, or the entire project was AI-generated unless that is genuinely what the inventory shows.
Where the disclosure can appear
The reviewed policy does not prescribe a dedicated listing field or exact placement. The safest approach is to put the statement in a location that is visible to the people evaluating the submission, while following the current submission instructions for the specific application.
- Listing metadata: If you choose to mention it in the app’s public description or other metadata, keep the statement factual and separate from marketing copy.
- Submission explanation: If the current review process provides a place to explain material changes, the same precise statement can help reviewers connect the disclosure to the affected files.
- Reviewer clarification: When placement is uncertain or the generated material is extensive, ask Flathub reviewers which location they want before submitting.
Do not invent a MetaInfo element or manifest key called “AI disclosure.” A field that is not defined by the current format may make the file invalid or simply hide the information from reviewers. Placement and compliance are separate questions: wherever the statement is placed, the manifest prohibition still applies.

Keep AI-generated and AI-assisted content out of the manifest
Flathub draws a strict boundary around manifests. AI-generated or AI-assisted material must not appear in them. This restriction is narrower than the general disclosure rule in one important way: a disclosure does not grant an exception.

Before submission, inspect manifest values, comments, descriptions, dependency declarations, commands, and any generated fragments that might have been copied into the file. If an AI system drafted a manifest entry and you retained it, replace that entry with content authored and verified without AI assistance. Then recheck the final manifest rather than assuming a later edit removed every generated fragment.
The application’s ordinary source, shipped documentation, or packaging files can still require disclosure when they contain retained AI-generated material. The manifest must remain free of AI-generated and AI-assisted content even when those other components are disclosed.
Do not delegate Flathub submission communications to an AI agent
The policy also limits how AI agents may participate in submission work. Agents must not open or automate submission pull requests, and they must not generate submission commit messages, descriptions, review comments, or replies. This is a process restriction, not a substitute for the content disclosure.

A human submitter should therefore create and send the pull request, write the commit message and description, and answer reviewer questions. You may use ordinary development tools to prepare files, but the final submission communication must not be produced or automated by an AI agent in the ways prohibited by the policy.
Keep the disclosure separate from MetaInfo quality
Flathub requires a valid MetaInfo file for an app to appear on its website. Its guidance also calls for a short, informative description with supported markup and applicable screenshot metadata. The quality guidelines recommend a clear, nontechnical summary, a description that explains the app beyond that summary, and screenshots that show the current application clearly.
Those metadata expectations do not replace the AI policy. A listing can have excellent screenshots and a valid MetaInfo file yet still need an AI disclosure. Conversely, adding a disclosure does not make an invalid MetaInfo file acceptable. Treat the work as two checks:

- Policy check: identify retained AI-generated material, estimate its scope, keep prohibited content out of the manifest, and follow the communication restrictions.
- Metadata check: validate the MetaInfo file, use supported markup, provide the required description information, and keep screenshots current and appropriate.
The quality guidance is presented as best practice, so do not describe every recommendation as a hard submission requirement. The valid MetaInfo requirement and the AI-policy rules are the compliance points; clarity and presentation improve the listing’s usefulness.

Disclosure is not acceptance. Flathub reviewers may reject disclosed material because of its extent or role, or because of concerns about reviewability, quality, or maintainability. Material that is undisclosed or materially misrepresented can also lead to rejection. The fact that a statement is complete does not guarantee that the underlying code, documentation, or packaging will be accepted.
Flathub can reject a submission during review and can recall an app after acceptance if it is later found unsuitable. Keep the disclosure accurate when the retained material changes in a later revision. A statement describing an earlier release should not be copied unchanged when files, proportions, or generated components have changed materially.
New application, rename, or ordinary update?
The submission guide covers new applications and renaming. An ordinary update does not require repeating the new-application process. That procedural distinction does not erase the AI rule: if an update introduces retained AI-generated material, assess and disclose it for the revision being submitted, and continue to keep prohibited material out of the manifest.
For a rename or a new application, follow the current submission guide and its links to the requirements and AI policy. For an ordinary update, use the established update workflow while checking whether the changed files alter the disclosure.
An end-to-end submission workflow
- Freeze the revision. Identify the exact application and packaging commit you intend to submit.
- Inventory retained output. Mark every included component that contains AI-generated material and record its location.
- Estimate scope. Use counts or percentages that a reviewer can understand and reproduce approximately.
- Inspect the manifest. Remove all AI-generated and AI-assisted content from the manifest, including copied descriptions or comments.
- Draft the statement. Name the material, affected part, and approximate extent. Do not call the wording an official Flathub template.
- Choose a visible placement. Follow the current requirements and ask reviewers if the correct location is unclear; do not invent a field.
- Validate metadata. Confirm that the MetaInfo file is valid, descriptions use supported markup, and applicable screenshots represent the current app.
- Prepare communications yourself. A human must open or submit the pull request and write the related commit message, description, review comments, and replies.
- Recheck after edits. If code, documentation, packaging, or metadata changes during review, update the disclosure and repeat the manifest check.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
“AI was used” with no scope
Problem: The statement gives no way to identify affected material. Correction: name the feature or file group and add a count, proportion, word count, or similarly concrete estimate.

Putting the disclosure in the manifest
Problem: The submitter assumes a manifest comment or field solves the policy issue. Correction: remove AI-generated and AI-assisted manifest content and place any explanatory statement only where the current process supports it.
Disclosing research or debugging that produced no retained output
Problem: The listing becomes noisy and suggests that included material exists when it does not. Correction: omit those activities when no generated material entered the app or packaging.
Treating a disclosure as approval
Problem: The submitter assumes reviewers must accept the identified material. Correction: describe the material honestly and expect review of its quality, maintainability, role, and extent.
Using an AI agent for the submission conversation
Problem: An agent opens the pull request or drafts the associated discussion. Correction: have a human perform those communications and respond to review directly.
Confusing metadata polish with policy compliance
Problem: A valid-looking description or attractive screenshots are treated as proof that the AI requirement is satisfied. Correction: run separate policy and MetaInfo checks before submission.
Final checklist
- Every retained AI-generated component in the app or Flathub packaging is identified.
- Each disclosure names the affected part and gives an approximate extent.
- No AI-generated or AI-assisted material remains in the Flathub manifest.
- Research, discussion, and debugging are not disclosed when they produced no included material.
- No invented MetaInfo field or official-sounding template is used.
- A human, not an AI agent, handles the pull request and related submission communications.
- The MetaInfo file is valid and its description and screenshot metadata meet the applicable guidance.
- The wording matches the exact revision under review and will be updated if that revision changes.
- You understand that Flathub may reject disclosed material or recall an app later if it is found unsuitable.
The Bottom Line
Disclose retained AI-generated material by naming what it is, where it appears, and approximately how much of the app or packaging it affects. Keep all AI-generated and AI-assisted content out of the manifest, do not delegate submission communications to an AI agent, and treat disclosure as transparency for review—not permission or guaranteed acceptance.
