Set game.gameProperties.disableThirdPerson to the Boolean value true in your Arma Reforger server configuration. The server reference defines false as the default (third person allowed) and true as forcing connected clients into first-person view. Save the change, then apply it by restarting or reloading the server through your hosting method.
If you use Arma Reforger’s built-in hosting screen instead of editing JSON, turn off Third-person camera in the server settings before launching or restarting the session. Both methods enforce the rule server-side; players do not need a mod or a client-side file edit.

The exact setting to change
The camera rule is one nested property:

}The property name is case-sensitive. Use the Boolean true without quotation marks. Writing "true" creates a string, not the Boolean value expected by the server configuration. Keep every other existing field in the file unless you have a separate reason to change it.
Bohemia Interactive’s server-configuration reference describes this option as “Force clients to use the first-person view.” In practical terms, a value of true prevents clients connected to that server from switching to third person. A value of false, which is the documented default, leaves third-person view available.

Choose the configuration route that matches your server
There are two supported ways to expose the same server-side rule. Use the first route when you control the configuration file; use the second when you host through the game’s own setup interface.

The exact filename, directory, restart button, and reload behavior vary by hosting method. The official configuration documentation explains the property, while your provider’s instructions determine where its file is located and how it is loaded.
Method 1: Edit a dedicated server’s JSON configuration
1. Identify the active configuration
Use the configuration path supplied by your game-server provider or your own deployment process. Do not create a second file with a similar name and assume the server will read it. A panel may expose a JSON editor rather than a filesystem, and some hosts rebuild the file when the instance starts.
2. Stop the server before editing
Stopping first prevents the running process from keeping an old copy in memory or rewriting your edit during shutdown. Use the provider’s normal Stop control or stop the dedicated-server process through your administration method.
3. Back up the current file
Make a copy of the existing configuration before changing it. The backup gives you a quick recovery path if a comma, brace, or unrelated field is accidentally altered. A backup is especially useful on panels that save immediately and offer no version history.
4. Add or update the nested property
Inside the top-level game object, locate gameProperties. Add disableThirdPerson there if it is absent, or change its existing value to true. A complete minimal structure looks like this:

}The example property name above is only showing JSON punctuation; keep your server’s actual existing fields. Do not delete unrelated settings to make room for the camera option.
5. Validate the JSON syntax
Check that every opening brace has a closing brace, each property name is in double quotes, and adjacent properties are separated by commas. Remove comments if your editor inserted them; standard JSON does not accept comment syntax. A syntax error can stop the server from loading the file even when the camera property itself is correct.
6. Save the file and start or reload the server
Save the edited configuration, then use the host’s documented Start, Restart, or Apply/Reload action. Editing a file on disk does not necessarily change a process that is already running. If your provider has no reload control, perform a full stop and start.
7. Confirm that the live instance used the edit
Join the server after it comes back online and attempt to switch to third person. A joining player should be restricted to first person. If the player can still change camera view, check the troubleshooting section rather than repeatedly editing the same file; the server may be reading a different configuration or may not have reloaded.
Method 2: Disable the camera in the in-game hosting interface
Bohemia Interactive’s host-your-own-game guide identifies a Third-person camera control in the server settings. This route is appropriate when you host from the built-in interface and do not manage a standalone JSON file.

- Open the server setup or hosting screen.
- Open the game/server settings used for the session.
- Find Third-person camera.
- Turn the control off.
- Apply the settings and launch the session, or restart the existing session if it is already running.
- Join as a player and test the camera toggle.
Labels and the exact placement of the control can change with the game’s interface, but the important state is that third-person camera is disabled before the session starts or is reloaded. If you switch from interface hosting to a dedicated server later, set game.gameProperties.disableThirdPerson in that server’s configuration as well; an interface choice does not automatically rewrite an unrelated dedicated-server file.
What the option does—and what it does not do
It is a server-side restriction
The server sends the rule to connected clients. Players do not need to install a mod, replace a client file, or attach any physical accessory. This makes the setting suitable for a community server that wants one consistent camera perspective for every participant.

It changes camera permission, not network reachability
Camera enforcement and router configuration are separate concerns. The official hosting guide lists public port 2001 as the default for making a self-hosted server reachable from the internet. Opening or forwarding that port can affect whether players connect, but it cannot disable third person. Conversely, disabling third person does not open ports or make a server publicly reachable.
It applies to clients connected to that server
The setting is not a global account preference. A player can still use third person on another server whose administrator leaves the property at its default. The restriction follows the server session whose configuration contains the enabled property.
Verify the result without changing other settings
Use a short, repeatable check after every configuration change:
- Wait until the server has completed its restart or reload.
- Join with a normal player account, not only the host/admin account.
- Enter a situation where the camera toggle would normally be available.
- Attempt to switch to third person using the usual in-game control.
- Confirm that the view remains first person.
- If possible, have a second player test as well, then record the server restart time and configuration version.
A failed test is useful only if you know which instance you joined. Confirm the server name, address, and session time so you are not testing an older copy or a different host.

Troubleshooting when third person is still available

Common configuration mistakes
Using a string instead of a Boolean
Correct JSON uses true:

"disableThirdPerson": "true"The quoted form is text. The server reference defines this option as a Boolean, so preserve the JSON type as well as the spelling.
Putting the key at the wrong level
The path is nested under game, then gameProperties. A top-level property with the same name is not equivalent. Compare the structure with the official configuration reference before restarting.
Changing the name’s capitalization
disableThirdPerson is not interchangeable with forms such as disablethirdperson or DisableThirdPerson. JSON keys and the server’s expected property names are case-sensitive.

The minimal snippet is useful for showing placement, but replacing a production file with it can remove map, scenario, or administrative options you already rely on. Add or edit one property and preserve the rest of the file.
Assuming a port change controls the camera
Port 2001 is a reachability detail in the official hosting guidance, not a camera setting. Do not troubleshoot third-person behavior by changing router rules.

- Look for a panel field that corresponds to Third-person camera or
disableThirdPerson. - Save through the panel if it provides a structured editor, rather than editing a temporary generated file.
- Restart once and verify the value remains enabled after the process returns.
- Keep a copy of the intended setting so you can restore it after an image, mod, or provider configuration reset.
If the host offers only a file editor, ask its documentation which file is authoritative and whether a restart regenerates it. The property itself remains the same; only the persistence workflow changes.

Announce the rule before players join
Tell players that the server forces first person so the camera behavior is not mistaken for a client bug. A short server description or community notice can state that third-person view is disabled server-side.
Apply the change during a maintenance window
A restart disconnects active players. Schedule the edit between sessions, announce the expected interruption, and test with a joining account before reopening the server to a larger group.
Record the effective configuration
Note the date, server instance, and the fact that disableThirdPerson is set to true. This makes it easier to diagnose a later provider reset without changing unrelated gameplay options.
Separate camera policy from gameplay modifications
This option is a native server property. Do not add a mod solely to force first person unless you have another, independent requirement. A native setting reduces client-installation steps and keeps the policy in one server-controlled location.
