Set AllowGuests = false in the [General] section of the ServerConfig.toml used by your running BeamMP server, save the file, and restart the server. That is BeamMP’s built-in control for preventing unauthenticated guest connections.
The direct fix
BeamMP reads guest access from the active server configuration file. Open ServerConfig.toml, find the [General] section, and add or change this line:
[General]
AllowGuests = falseSave the file and restart BeamMP. The setting must be made in the configuration file used by the process you actually launch; editing a different copy has no effect.
What BeamMP considers a guest
BeamMP’s authentication hook identifies guests as users who did not log in with a BeamMP account. They are treated as anonymous users. The built-in configuration switch blocks those users before they can become normal server participants, while authenticated users remain eligible to connect under your other server rules.

Find the active ServerConfig.toml
Normal home installation
On a typical installation, BeamMP creates ServerConfig.toml beside the server executable after the first startup. This is the file most administrators need to edit.
Why the executable folder may not be enough
BeamMP’s working directory determines which configuration file, log files, and Resources directory are used. A shortcut, service wrapper, script, or command-line launcher can start the executable with a different working directory than the folder you are browsing. As a result, you may find more than one ServerConfig.toml.
- Identify the exact command, shortcut, service definition, or script used to start the server.
- Check the working directory configured for that launch method.
- Open the
ServerConfig.tomlin that directory, not merely the first file found in a general BeamMP folder. - After restarting, use the log from that same working directory when checking the result.
Do not edit the obsolete format
The current format is ServerConfig.toml. Older instructions may refer to Server.cfg, but that is not the current configuration file used by BeamMP. If you only see an old file, start the current server once so it can create or update the current layout, then locate the active TOML file through the server’s working directory.

Step-by-step: disable guest connections
- Stop the server. Shut down BeamMP cleanly, or otherwise ensure it is not rewriting the configuration while you edit it.
- Open the active file. Use a plain-text editor to open the
ServerConfig.tomlassociated with the running process. - Locate
[General]. Keep the setting in that section. If the section already contains anAllowGuestsentry, edit its value rather than creating a second entry. - Set the value to false. The exact spelling and capitalization are important:
AllowGuests = false. - Preserve TOML syntax. Keep the equals sign, use the Boolean value
falserather than a quoted string such as'false', and avoid adding punctuation to the key. - Save the file. Confirm that the editor did not append an extra extension such as
.txt. - Start or restart BeamMP. Configuration changes are read when the server starts; an already-running process may continue using its previous value.
- Verify operationally. Attempt a connection with a client that would otherwise join as a guest and inspect the server log for the connection result. This is an administrator verification step; the setting itself does not provide a pre-recorded test result.
Configuration checks before you restart
- One active key: There should be one effective
AllowGuestsentry in[General]. Duplicate keys can make the result ambiguous or cause a parser error. - Boolean value: Use the unquoted TOML Boolean
false. - Correct section: Put the line beneath
[General], not beneath a plugin-specific or unrelated table. - Correct file: Confirm the file belongs to the launch context of the server process.
- Correct filename: The file should be named
ServerConfig.toml, not the retiredServer.cfg. - Saved changes: Close and reopen the file, or use your editor’s saved-state indicator, before starting the server.
Use a Lua plugin when you need custom enforcement
The configuration switch is the simplest way to deny all guests. A server-side Lua resource is useful when you need a custom explanation shown to the rejected player or additional admission logic. BeamMP’s authentication hook is called onPlayerAuth and receives the player name, role, guest flag, and identifiers.
Reject guests during authentication
Create or update a server Lua resource with an authentication handler like this:
function onPlayerAuth(playerName, playerRole, isGuest, identifiers)
if isGuest then
return 'No guests allowed, please use a BeamMP account'
end
endWhen isGuest is true, returning a message rejects the join and displays that message to the player. Returning nothing for an authenticated player allows the normal authentication flow and any other server checks to continue.

Place the resource in the server tree
Server-side Lua resources belong under the server’s Resources/Server tree. The resource must be in the active working directory’s Resources hierarchy, because that is the tree the running process loads. After placing or changing the resource:
- Confirm the resource structure and script filename match the format expected by your BeamMP server version.
- Start or restart the server.
- Inspect the server log for resource-loading errors.
- Test both an authenticated connection and a guest-style connection so the handler does not reject users unintentionally.
Check or remove an already connected guest
The scripting reference also documents MP.IsPlayerGuest(player_id) for checking whether a connected player is a guest. If a guest is already present, MP.DropPlayer(player_id, reason) can remove that player with a reason. This is a post-connection control; onPlayerAuth is the appropriate hook when you want to reject the connection during authentication.
Configuration versus Lua enforcement

For a server that should never admit guests, start with AllowGuests = false. Add onPlayerAuth only when a custom message or more complex admission policy justifies the additional resource.

Optional community GuestControl resource
A community resource named GuestControl describes a package that disallows guests and is installed in Resources/Server. Treat it as third-party code rather than as a replacement for BeamMP’s documented setting. Before deploying it, review its current files, understand what it changes, and check compatibility with the BeamMP server version you run. If your only requirement is to block anonymous users, the built-in setting avoids introducing another dependency.

You changed the wrong file
This is the most common cause when the setting appears correct but behavior does not change. BeamMP uses the working directory of the launched process. Check the shortcut, service, wrapper, or script that starts the server and locate the TOML file in that context. Compare the log location with the directory you edited; they should belong to the same running instance.
The server was never restarted
Stop and start the server after saving. Editing a file while the process is running does not guarantee that the process will reload the value. A clean restart also makes it easier to correlate the next log entries with the new configuration.

The setting is in the wrong section or has the wrong spelling
Move the entry beneath [General] and use exactly AllowGuests. TOML keys are not interchangeable with similarly named variants. Keep false unquoted and remove duplicate entries.
You edited Server.cfg
Discard the obsolete-file assumption and work with the active ServerConfig.toml. Current BeamMP documentation uses the TOML format; an old CFG file may simply be ignored.

The Lua resource does not load
Verify that the resource is under the active Resources/Server directory, not a similarly named folder belonging to another installation. Check startup logs for syntax, path, or resource-loading errors. A configuration-only block does not depend on a Lua resource, so temporarily disable the plugin while diagnosing whether the base setting works.
A plugin blocks authenticated players too
Inspect the value passed to isGuest and ensure the rejection branch is conditional on that value being true. Test an authenticated account separately. If you use additional checks, keep the guest test distinct so a failure in unrelated identifier logic does not look like a guest-blocking problem.
You need to remove guests already online
AllowGuests = false is the admission setting; it does not by itself describe a manual action for an already connected player. A Lua resource can call MP.IsPlayerGuest(player_id) and then use MP.DropPlayer(player_id, reason) when your policy requires removing an existing guest.
A practical rollout checklist
- Record which command, shortcut, service, or script launches the server.
- Identify its working directory and the matching
ServerConfig.toml. - Stop the server before editing.
- Set
AllowGuests = falsebeneath[General]. - Save without changing the filename or adding an extension.
- Restart the same server instance.
- Check the corresponding log for startup or parsing errors.
- Test a guest-style connection and an authenticated connection.
- If a custom message is required, add an
onPlayerAuthresource under the activeResources/Servertree. - Retest after every plugin or server update, especially when third-party resources are installed.
Which method should you choose?
Choose the configuration setting when
- You want every guest denied with the least administration.
- You do not need a custom explanation in the rejection response.
- You want to avoid Lua resources and third-party dependencies.
Choose onPlayerAuth when
- You need to tell guests exactly why they were rejected.
- You are combining guest status with other admission rules.
- You want the decision made during authentication and controlled in server code.
Use post-connection checks only when
- Your policy must identify and remove guests who are already connected.
- You need an administrative cleanup command or periodic enforcement routine.
- You understand that dropping a player after connection is later than rejecting them in
onPlayerAuth.
Final verification
The reliable end state is simple: the running BeamMP process reads a ServerConfig.toml containing AllowGuests = false under [General], and the process has been restarted after the file was saved. If you add Lua enforcement, confirm that the resource loads from the same working directory and that its onPlayerAuth logic tests isGuest. These checks distinguish a policy problem from an incorrect file, stale process, or unloaded plugin.
