There is no universal switch that disables generative AI in every game. You must turn off the specific feature in the game, account, world, or platform where it is controlled. Start by identifying whether you are dealing with an AI character, text or voice chat, image generation, an experimental world option, or an automated support tool. Then apply the narrowest documented control and test it.
What “turn off AI” can mean in a game
Game developers use the term AI for very different systems. Enemy pathfinding, racing opponents, matchmaking, animation, moderation, player support, and generative characters may all be described as artificial intelligence, but a switch for one does not normally disable the others.
- Generative conversation: a non-player character (NPC) creates new text or spoken replies to your messages.
- Generative content: a service creates images, 3D objects, avatars, dialogue, or other assets from a prompt.
- Voice or free-text interaction: a player communicates with an AI character through speech or typed messages.
- Experimental features: a beta or creator-enabled option that may be controlled at the world or experience level.
- Automated support and moderation: a help chatbot or safety system operated by the platform, which may remain available after player-facing AI chat is disabled.
The controls covered here concern conversational, generative, and experimental features. They do not turn off ordinary game logic such as an enemy following a route or a computer-controlled opponent choosing a move.

Why a universal off switch does not exist
AI can be supplied by the game publisher, by a creator who builds an experience inside a platform, or by the console and mobile operating system. Each owner controls a different layer. A game setting may block an AI character’s voice and free-text replies while leaving a platform chat service, a support assistant, or creator-made content untouched.

Account type and geography also matter. A child account can expose parental controls that are absent from an adult account. A feature can be experimental, in limited release, or unavailable in one region. Menu names can change as a service is updated. Record the game edition, account, platform, and date when you follow a procedure so you know exactly what was changed.
A repeatable procedure for any game
Use this sequence when the game is not covered by a documented title-specific procedure.
- Name the exact feature. Write down whether it is a conversational NPC, AI text chat, voice interaction, image or asset generation, avatar creation, or an automated support window. “AI” by itself is too broad to find the right control.
- Check the game’s account and parental-control pages. Search the publisher’s official support site for the feature’s exact name plus “disable,” “turn off,” or “parental controls.” Account-level controls often apply across several games from the same publisher.
- Inspect the in-game menus. Look in Privacy, Communication, Accessibility, and Experimental or Beta settings. A communication toggle may cover voice and typed messages without affecting generated images or NPC behavior.
- Read the scope statement. Confirm whether the switch affects a child account, every player on the account, one saved world, one experience, or only a single device. Note whether it blocks voice, free text, images, spoken output, or another specific channel.
- Apply the documented change. Save the setting, close any confirmation dialog, and note the original value. If the game uses a parental-control PIN, make the change from the parent account rather than attempting to alter the child profile directly.
- Review the platform separately. Check the communication and family settings for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Windows, iOS, or Google Play as applicable. Platform chat can remain available even when a game’s own AI communication setting is off.
- Verify in a low-risk session. Re-enter the game and try the same prompt, microphone interaction, or creation tool that raised the concern. Also open the support area once: a blocked character does not prove that an AI-powered support function is disabled.
Fortnite and other Epic-owned experiences
Epic provides a specific parental-control setting for AI communication. The control applies to Epic-owned experiences, including Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, regardless of which supported platform is being used. It is intended for a child’s Epic Games Account and requires the parental-control PIN.

- Sign in to the child’s Epic Games Account.
- Open Parental Controls.
- Enter the parental-control PIN.
- Open General.
- Scroll to Allow voice and written communication with AI Features.
- Set the control to Off and save the change.
Change it from Fortnite
- Launch Fortnite and open the sidebar.
- Choose the hamburger menu.
- Select Parental Controls.
- Enter the PIN if Fortnite requests it.
- Scroll to AI Features.
- Turn the setting off, then return to the game and test the affected character or chat channel.
Epic defines the off state as preventing the child from interacting with AI features in Epic products through voice and free-text written communication. That includes conversational AI NPCs in Fortnite. The setting is narrower than a promise to remove every automated process: Epic explicitly says it does not apply to AI-powered player-support interactions. A support assistant may therefore still appear even though the child cannot converse with an AI character through voice or free text.
What the Fortnite setting does not tell you
Epic announced on April 16, 2026 that Fortnite’s Conversations system was an experimental feature for AI-powered characters with personalities and voices that react to player actions. The announcement said publishing projects that used the system was not yet available at that time. Availability can change, so check the current Epic documentation if the menu is missing or the feature behaves differently from these steps.

Turning off Epic’s control also does not replace console or mobile restrictions. If the goal is to prevent a child from communicating with people or services generally, review the family and communication controls on the device as well as the Epic account.
Roblox experiences: creator controls and disclosure
Roblox documents obligations for creators rather than offering a single player-facing generative-AI kill switch. When an experience lets players interact with a generative model in a way that produces a response—such as text chat, voice chat, image generation, 3D generation, or avatar movement—the creator must disclose that use in the Content Maturity questionnaire.

That disclosure helps identify an experience, but it does not guarantee that every creator exposes the same disable button.
Steps for a Roblox player or parent
- Open the individual experience’s description and settings and look for its own AI, chat, privacy, or safety controls.
- Review the account’s parental and communication settings, including who can send messages or use voice features.
- Check the experience’s maturity information. A creator-made chatbot can follow different rules from an AI service supplied by Roblox itself.
- If no control is documented, leave the experience, block or report the feature through the available safety tools, and do not assume that a platform-wide opt-out exists.
Roblox’s disclosure requirements do not mean every experience has identical behavior. A creator can provide an AI system inside one game while another experience uses no generative model at all. Treat the experience, not Roblox as a whole, as the scope of the decision.
Minecraft Bedrock and experimental worlds
Minecraft Bedrock’s documented experiment controls operate at the world level. They are not a general switch for generative AI across the game. Use them only when the feature you want to avoid is explicitly tied to an experiment.

Change an experiment toggle
- Open the world’s Game settings.
- Scroll to Experiments.
- Select the relevant experiment toggle and confirm the warning.
- Reopen the world and check whether the feature is still present.
Minecraft marks a world using experiments as Experimental. Its documentation warns that an experimental world cannot later be restored to a non-experimental state. Make a copy of any valuable world before enabling or changing an experiment. If the world is already experimental, changing a toggle may alter its behavior without providing a clean path back to the original state.
A normal, non-experimental world can still contain creator- or server-provided content governed somewhere else. Do not infer that the Experiments menu covers a marketplace item, a multiplayer server’s plugin, or another service merely because it uses the word “AI.”

How to tell whether the change worked
Verification should reproduce the behavior you wanted to stop, not merely show that a menu now says “Off.” Use a fresh or low-value session and run a small checklist:
- Try the same typed prompt that previously produced an AI reply.
- Try the same microphone or voice interaction, if voice was the concern.
- Open any image, avatar, or 3D-generation tool separately; a communication control may not affect it.
- Visit the NPC or experience again after restarting the game so cached settings do not mislead you.
- Open the help or support panel and distinguish a support assistant from the in-game character.
- On a shared device, sign in as the affected account. A parent’s account may show a different result.
If the feature still responds, check whether it is creator-provided, whether the setting was saved to another account, and whether the platform’s communication layer is supplying the interaction. Record the exact message, menu path, and account used before contacting support.

The option is missing
The feature may be limited to a particular account age, region, platform, or test group, or the publisher may have renamed the menu. Search the current official support pages using the exact feature name. Confirm that you are in the correct game edition and signed into the account whose settings you intend to change.

Voice is blocked but text still works
Voice and written communication are often separate channels. Recheck whether the control covers both, then inspect the game’s text-chat and platform messaging settings independently.
The character is gone but a chatbot remains
Epic’s documentation is an explicit example of this boundary: the AI communication control does not apply to AI-powered player support. A support tool can therefore remain after conversational NPC access is disabled.
A creator’s AI ignores the platform setting
Creator-provided systems can be governed by the individual experience. In Roblox, disclosure requirements identify certain AI uses, but they do not create one identical opt-out for every experience. Use the creator’s settings or leave and report the experience when no appropriate control is offered.
An experimental world cannot be returned to normal
This is the documented Minecraft Bedrock behavior. Experimental worlds cannot be restored to a non-experimental state. Use a copy before changing an experiment, and keep the original save untouched if its long-term stability matters.

A platform chat channel still works
Game-level settings and console or mobile settings are separate layers. Review the family, communication, and privacy controls on the platform used to play. Blocking an AI character inside a game does not automatically block a platform’s party chat or messaging.

Choosing controls for a child
For a child, begin with the account that owns the game rather than relying on a device-wide assumption. In Epic’s case, the named parental-control setting is designed for the child’s Epic Games Account and is protected by a PIN. In Roblox, examine both the account safety settings and each experience’s maturity and disclosure information. On Minecraft Bedrock, treat experiments as a world-management decision and preserve a copy before changing anything.
Then apply the platform’s communication restrictions. This two-layer approach matters because a game can stop its own AI conversation while the child can still reach people or services through console chat, mobile messaging, or another account on the same device.
What these switches cannot guarantee
A successful opt-out is always limited by its documented scope. It may block an AI’s voice and free-text replies but not generated images. It may stop a publisher’s NPC while leaving a creator’s model active. It may hide an experimental feature in one world while another world or server remains unchanged. It may not affect moderation, matchmaking, analytics, or support systems that use automation behind the scenes.
Use the publisher’s exact wording as the boundary. When the documentation says “voice and free-text written communication,” do not rewrite that as “all AI.” When a platform documents disclosure but no player switch, do not promise a universal opt-out. When a world is marked Experimental and irreversible, do not describe the toggle as a temporary preference.
Decision checklist
- Have you named the precise AI feature and interaction channel?
- Are you changing the correct game edition, account, world, and platform?
- Does the control cover voice, free text, images, NPC dialogue, or support—and only those items?
- Is the feature publisher-provided, creator-provided, or platform-provided?
- Does the setting apply to one child account, every player, one experience, or one world?
- Can the change be reversed, or does it create an irreversible Experimental world?
- Have you checked the console or mobile communication controls separately?
- Did you test the exact behavior again after saving the setting?
The practical answer is therefore specific rather than universal: disable the named generative feature at the layer that owns it, verify the result, and add platform restrictions when communication access must be limited comprehensively.
