To disable what many people call Gemini “extensions,” turn off the individual service in Gemini’s Connected Apps settings. On the web, open Settings & help → Connected Apps; if that entry is missing, open Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps. In the mobile app, open the profile menu and choose Connected Apps, or open Personal Intelligence first. Select the app, switch it off, and complete any prompt Google displays.
This disconnects future access through that integration. It does not delete earlier Gemini chats, Gemini Apps Activity, or information retained by the other service. Menu names and available integrations can differ by account, country, device, and rollout, so use the closest matching label in your version of Gemini.
What “Gemini extensions” are called now
“Extensions” is the term many users recognize for Gemini integrations, but Google’s current control is labeled Connected Apps. The setting is per service: you can disconnect one app while leaving other connections enabled. There is no single Connected Apps switch that universally disables every Google service or every form of personalization.

Depending on your account and device, Connected Apps may include categories such as Contacts, Google Photos where available, Google Wallet in the United States, Google Workspace, Search services, and YouTube. The list shown to one person may not match the list shown to another.

Disable a Gemini connection on a computer
Use Gemini in a desktop or mobile browser for this route.
- Open gemini.google.com and sign in to the Google Account whose connection you want to change.
- At the bottom of the Gemini page, select Settings & help.
- Select Connected Apps. If you do not see it, select Personal Intelligence, then choose Connected Apps.
- Find the service you no longer want Gemini to use.
- Switch that app’s toggle off.
- Follow any confirmation or other on-screen instructions. Google’s concise instruction is: “To disconnect an app, turn it off.”
After the toggle is off, Gemini should stop obtaining new information through that particular connection. Other Connected Apps remain unchanged unless you disable them separately.
Disable a Gemini connection in the mobile app
The profile-menu route applies to the current Gemini mobile experience, although the exact placement can vary between Android, iOS, account types, and staged releases.

- Open the profile menu.
- Select Connected Apps. If it is not listed, open Personal Intelligence first and then select Connected Apps.
- Locate the service you want to disconnect and switch its toggle off.
- Complete any instructions or confirmation shown by the app.
If you use Gemini on more than one device, check the same Google Account on each device after the change. The account setting may synchronize, but a staged app release can temporarily display different labels or options.
Which integrations can appear in Connected Apps?
Google describes Connected Apps as integrations that let Gemini work with information from other services. The following categories are documented for eligible users; availability is not guaranteed for every account.

The table describes the control’s scope, not a promise that every category will appear. Google says the available apps vary by Gemini app, device, account, and other factors.
What turning off an app does—and does not do
Disconnecting an app is an access change, not a complete account-data reset. Use the following distinctions to choose the control that matches your goal.

Stopping access to Gmail, Photos, YouTube, or another specific service
There is no separate universal “stop Gemini from everything” button inside Connected Apps. To stop a particular service, open the app list, locate that service, and turn off only its toggle. For example, to stop a Photos connection, disable the Photos entry; to stop a YouTube connection, disable the YouTube entry. If a service is absent, it may not be enabled for your account, device, country, or current Gemini release.

Search-related behavior needs extra care. Google says Gemini automatically uses public information from certain Google services, including Google Search, Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps, and YouTube. Disconnecting a personal integration should therefore not be described as disabling every public-data feature or every result that happens to come from one of those services. The Connected Apps switch controls the listed account connection, not the existence of public information on the web.
Disconnecting is not the same as deleting past Gemini activity
Turning off an app limits future access through that connection, but it does not erase conversations or Gemini Apps Activity that already exist. Google also says that disconnecting an app, or deleting data in the connected service, does not delete Gemini Apps Activity. If an earlier chat contains information you no longer want retained, manage or delete that Gemini activity separately using the account’s Gemini activity controls.
Changes in a connected service may take days to affect the Gemini experience. That delay does not mean the toggle failed; it reflects propagation and processing between services. Avoid treating an old response, cached suggestion, or existing chat as proof that the connection is still active.
Use Personal Intelligence when the problem is one chat
Personal Intelligence is a different control from the account-wide Connected Apps list. If you only want one conversation to stop using connected information, turn Personal Intelligence off within that chat when the option is available. This prevents that chat’s personalization from using Connected Apps, Gemini chat memory, or your instructions.
Turning Personal Intelligence off in a chat does not automatically prevent the conversation from being saved to Gemini Apps Activity. For a conversation that should not be saved to account activity, use Gemini’s temporary chat option instead. Temporary chat and Connected Apps solve different problems: one concerns retention of the conversation, while the other concerns access through a service connection.
Understand the broader Keep Activity setting
Keep Activity affects more than one integration. Google says that when Keep Activity is off, Connected Apps are unavailable on Gemini web, iOS, and smart watches. Android can retain certain device-assistance apps even in that state. This makes Keep Activity a broader account-activity choice, not a precise way to disconnect only Gmail, Photos, YouTube, or another individual service.
If your goal is to keep Gemini activity settings unchanged while removing one integration, use the individual Connected Apps toggle. If your goal is to change whether Gemini activity is retained at all, review Keep Activity separately and read the confirmation shown for your account before accepting it.

A Google Workspace administrator can enable or disable app access. On a managed account, you may see a connection that you cannot change, or an app may disappear after an administrator policy update.

Google says that if apps are disabled after a chat has begun, you can still view and continue that chat, but Gemini will not receive further information from the connected service unless access is re-enabled. Existing chat content and future access therefore have different behavior. Contact your organization’s administrator when a control is locked, missing, or repeatedly restored.
If Connected Apps is missing
Try the alternate Personal Intelligence path
On the web, open Settings & help and look for Personal Intelligence; then open Connected Apps. In the mobile app, open the profile menu and use the same intermediate option if Connected Apps is not shown directly.
Check the account and app version
Confirm that Gemini is signed in to the account whose data you are trying to protect. A personal Google Account and a Workspace account can expose different settings. Update the Gemini app through your device’s normal app-update mechanism, then reopen it. On the web, sign out and back in if the account switcher shows a different profile than expected.
Consider rollout and location differences
Google states that available apps and labels vary by Gemini app, device, and other factors. A missing entry can mean the integration is not available in your country, has not reached your account, or is controlled by an administrator. Do not assume that a missing toggle means all access has been disabled.
When the app still seems to be used after disconnection
Check that the correct toggle changed
Return to Connected Apps and verify the specific service is off. Disabling one app does not disable similarly named services or other integrations. If you have more than one Google Account signed in, repeat the check from the account used for the affected chat.
Separate old answers from new access
An earlier conversation can still display information Gemini obtained before the disconnect. Open a new chat after the toggle change and avoid using an old thread as your only test. Existing activity is not retroactively rewritten by disconnecting an app.
Allow for service changes to propagate
Google notes that data changes in a connected service can take days to affect the Gemini experience. If the service’s own data was edited or deleted, wait for that change to propagate rather than repeatedly toggling the connection.

Results based on public information from Google Search, Flights, Hotels, Maps, or YouTube can continue even when a personal Connected Apps integration is off. That behavior is distinct from Gemini accessing your private account content through a connection.

Check organization policy
For a work or school account, an administrator may have changed the policy or may be the only person allowed to modify it. Ask the administrator whether the app is enabled and whether a policy update is pending.
Privacy checklist before and after disconnecting
- Identify the exact service you want to stop, rather than assuming one switch covers every integration.
- Confirm the Google Account shown in Gemini before changing settings.
- Record which app toggle you changed if you manage several accounts or devices.
- Use a new chat to observe behavior after disconnecting; do not treat old chat content as fresh access.
- Delete Gemini Apps Activity separately if your objective includes removing prior conversations or information.
- Delete or manage data in the connected service separately; Gemini’s activity deletion does not automatically erase that service’s records.
- Use temporary chat when a particular conversation should not be saved to Gemini Apps Activity.
- Review Keep Activity only when you intend to change account-wide activity retention and Connected Apps availability.
- Ask a Workspace administrator for help when a work or school setting is locked or unavailable.
- Recheck the visible labels after major app or account changes because Google’s menus and supported integrations can change.
How to reconnect an app later
Reconnection uses the same path. Open Settings & help → Connected Apps on the web, or the profile menu → Connected Apps in the mobile app; open Personal Intelligence first if necessary. Find the service, switch it on, and complete any authorization or confirmation prompts. Re-enabling one app does not automatically re-enable other apps.

Final verification after changing a toggle
For a privacy-sensitive change, verify it in three ways. First, reopen Connected Apps and confirm the intended switch remains off. Second, start a fresh chat rather than testing only an existing conversation. Third, check that you are still using the same Google Account and, for a managed account, ask whether an organization policy controls the connection. These checks distinguish a missed setting from old content, public information, or a delayed service update.

Will disabling YouTube block all YouTube information?
No. Google says Gemini can use public information from services including YouTube. The Connected Apps toggle controls the account connection, not public information available on the web.
Can I disable connected information for one chat only?
Yes. Turn off Personal Intelligence within that chat when available. That stops personalization from using Connected Apps, memory, or instructions, but the chat can still be saved unless you use temporary chat.
