On your Fire TV, open Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings. If Automatic Content Recognition appears, select it and turn it off. Amazon Staff forum guidance documents this path, but Amazon’s general privacy FAQ does not establish that the ACR option is available on every Fire TV model, so check the menu on your device.
Turn off Automatic Content Recognition if the option is available
- From the Fire TV home screen, open Settings.
- Select Preferences, then Privacy Settings.
- If Automatic Content Recognition is listed, select it and switch it off.
The menu path comes from an Amazon Staff forum reply dated July 3, 2023. Treat it as guidance rather than confirmation that every Fire TV Stick or Fire TV television has the same setting: Amazon’s general privacy FAQ lists other controls but does not identify ACR as a universal option. If ACR is missing, choose the control that matches the data
These settings address different kinds of information. Turning off one should not be treated as turning off every form of data collection.

Amazon describes the Device Usage Data, app usage, and advertising controls in its Fire TV privacy settings FAQ. Availability and labels can vary by device and software.

On a Fire TV television, review broadcast and HbbTV controls
Opt out of broadcast live-TV data
For a Fire TV Edition television, check Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings for the broadcast live-TV data setting. Amazon says it covers information from broadcast content received through RF inputs and notes: “Turning this setting off may affect our ability to personalize your experience.” This is distinct from ACR and from app usage data. EU television owners: HbbTV is another separate feature
Amazon describes Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) as a third-party feature in the EU; TV service providers may collect information such as an IP address. To disable it on a Fire TV Edition television, Amazon gives this route: TV Settings > Red Button Apps (HbbTV) > Hybrid TV (HbbTV). This control is not the ACR toggle. Stop supported apps from sharing viewing activity
If your Fire TV has a Continue Watching row and you want to manage app-level viewing sharing, open Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings > Manage Sharing From Apps. There you can manage participating apps, disable sharing of supported apps’ viewing and content information, or stop syncing viewing activity across Fire TV devices. Eligibility and participating apps determine what appears. This is separate from ACR and is described in Amazon’s Manage Sharing of Viewing Information from Apps on Fire TV.

What to do when a setting is not shown
- Check the actual Privacy Settings menu on the Fire TV rather than assuming another model has the same options.
- If ACR is absent, use the available setting for the data category you want to limit: device operating-system use, third-party app use, broadcast RF television viewing, or app viewing sharing.
- Do not infer that a missing ACR label means all related collection is off; Amazon documents the other controls separately.
