Android zero-touch enrollment lets a company-owned Galaxy phone retrieve its management configuration during initial setup, so the user does not have to enter an enrollment code or manually install the management agent. For Samsung Knox Manage, the reliable sequence is: confirm the exact model and regional eligibility with an approved zero-touch reseller, use an enterprise Google account, link that account to the Knox Manage tenant, create an Android Enterprise configuration for Samsung Knox Manage in the zero-touch portal, assign the registered device IDs, and test one phone before shipping the fleet.

What Android zero-touch enrollment does on a Galaxy phone

Zero-touch is a provisioning service for company-owned Android devices. Before a phone reaches its user, the reseller associates its hardware identifier with the organization’s zero-touch account. During first-run setup, the phone connects to the internet, checks that association, downloads the organization’s configuration and starts enrollment with the selected enterprise mobility management (EMM) provider.

Google’s Android Enterprise enrollment page describes the intended experience as: “With Android Enterprise, deploying a device is as simple as turning it on.” That is a description of the enrollment handoff, not a guarantee that procurement, reseller registration, account linking or policy design will be frictionless. The phone still needs a supported model, an assigned configuration and internet access during setup.

Samsung documents zero-touch for Samsung devices through several EMM choices. This guide uses the documented Knox Manage workflow. Other EMM products expose different portal names, DPC extras, account-linking screens and supported management modes; use that provider’s current instructions for those fields rather than copying Knox Manage values.

Zero-touch is most useful when an organization buys many company-owned phones and wants them to arrive ready for policy enforcement without an administrator touching each handset. It does not itself create security policies, licenses, user accounts or carrier service. Those remain responsibilities of the EMM, identity system, network and procurement teams.

For general Android context, see Android Enterprise Enrollment and the device-availability information at Android Enterprise Devices.

Confirm that the exact Galaxy phones are eligible

Do not treat the words “Galaxy” or “Enterprise Edition” as proof of zero-touch support. Android states that device and feature availability can vary by country and OEM, and the public Android pages do not provide a complete eligibility table for every Galaxy Enterprise Edition SKU. Carrier variants, country-specific models and purchasing channels can therefore produce different results.

Record the deployment scope

Before placing an order, write down the following for every proposed batch:

  • Exact Galaxy model name, model number and SKU, including the Enterprise Edition designation.
  • Country in which the devices will be activated and the carrier variant, if applicable.
  • Expected shipment date and whether devices are new, refurbished or previously activated.
  • EMM provider and the management mode you intend to use.
  • Whether the phone is fully managed for company-only use, company-owned with a work profile, or another mode supported by your EMM.
  • The organization’s zero-touch customer account to which the reseller must register the devices.

Get a written reseller confirmation

Ask the supplying reseller to confirm the precise model and country are eligible for Android zero-touch and that each unit will be uploaded to the correct organization account before shipment. Request the device identifiers or a registration report that your administrator can reconcile after purchase. Registration by an eligible reseller is a prerequisite in Samsung’s Knox Manage instructions; a retail handset listing alone does not prove that registration has occurred.

Pause procurement if the reseller cannot answer which account will receive the devices, which identifiers will be registered, or whether the carrier variant is supported. Resolve those questions before devices are distributed, because changing the deployment path after users receive phones can require resets and additional support work.

Prepare the accounts, EMM and management mode

Use an enterprise Google account

Samsung’s Knox Manage procedure requires an enterprise Google account for the zero-touch connection. A personal Gmail account cannot be used for this prerequisite. Create or designate an organizational account with appropriate administrative ownership, recovery methods and access controls. Ensure the person performing the setup can access the organization’s zero-touch account and the Knox Manage tenant.

Choose the management outcome first

Decide what the phone should look like after enrollment before creating the configuration. A fully managed device is appropriate for company-only equipment where the organization controls the entire handset. A company-owned device with a work profile keeps a personal area for the user while enforcing controls in the work area, if the EMM and Android version support that mode. Other modes may be available in Knox Manage; confirm the exact mode in the current product documentation at Samsung Knox Manage: Enroll a device.

The mode affects the DPC configuration, policy scope, application deployment and what the user sees during setup. Do not build a fully managed configuration and then expect it to behave like a work profile.

Link the zero-touch account to Knox Manage

The zero-touch account must be linked to the Knox Manage tenant before you create and assign a configuration. Samsung’s current console path is described as Device Enrollment > Zero-Touch. Product labels can change, so treat the current Knox Manage instructions as the authority if your console uses slightly different wording.

Knox Manage deployment: step-by-step

1. Open the zero-touch linking screen

  1. Sign in to the organization’s Knox Manage administrator console.
  2. Open Device Enrollment > Zero-Touch.
  3. Choose the action to link a zero-touch account to the EMM provider.
  4. Select the organization account or accounts associated with the enterprise Google identity.
  5. Confirm the link and verify that Knox Manage shows the intended zero-touch organization.

If the expected account is not listed, stop here. Check that the administrator signed in with the enterprise identity, that the identity has access to the correct zero-touch organization and that the account was not created as a personal Gmail profile.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Create the configuration in the zero-touch portal

Open the Android zero-touch enrollment portal associated with the linked organization account and create a new configuration. For the Knox Manage Android Enterprise path, select:

  • EMM/DPC type: Android Enterprise.
  • EMM DPC: Samsung Knox Manage.

The portal then asks for DPC extras and support or contact details. Enter the values required by the current Knox Manage integration and your chosen management mode. DPC extras are provider-specific parameters; do not invent keys, values or formatting from an older guide. Samsung’s procedural documentation at Use Android zero touch enrollment lists the fields and examples for its workflow. Use that page and the labels displayed in your portal together.

Use a monitored support contact and an organization name that users will recognize during setup. A clear support message reduces the chance that a user treats the managed-device screen as an error. Save the configuration only after required fields validate successfully.

3. Assign the configuration to registered devices

Saving a configuration does not enroll anything by itself. In the zero-touch device list, select the registered device identifiers and assign the intended configuration. Check that:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Every identifier supplied by the reseller appears in the organization’s device list.
  • The assignment points to the newly created Knox Manage configuration, not an old test configuration.
  • Devices are not simultaneously assigned to conflicting configurations.
  • The assignment status has completed before the shipment is released.

Keep an export or administrative record of the assignment and the shipment batch. It gives the help desk a way to distinguish an unregistered phone from a phone that is registered but assigned incorrectly.

Samsung Galaxy S24 5G, US Version, 128GB, Onyx Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).

4. Stage a representative phone

Before fleet rollout, use a representative unit with the same model, region and carrier variant as the production batch. If the phone has already been configured, reset it according to your organization’s approved process so it reaches the out-of-box setup state. Connect it to Wi-Fi or another working internet connection, start setup and observe whether the organization’s management screen appears.

Complete enrollment with a test user or staging identity and verify the policies, applications, certificate deployment, restrictions and compliance reporting that matter to your organization. The zero-touch process starts enrollment; it does not validate that your EMM policy design is correct.

5. Release the shipment only after assignment is confirmed

Ship phones after the reseller registration, zero-touch assignment and representative-device test have passed. Give users a short setup instruction: power on the phone, connect it to the internet when prompted and follow the organization’s enrollment screens. Avoid telling users to skip management prompts or remove the management agent.

Samsung notes that resetting a device registered through zero-touch can cause the Knox Manage agent to reinstall and the device to re-enroll. Plan reset and redeployment procedures accordingly; a reset is not a way to permanently remove company management from a registered asset.

What the user should see during first setup

The user turns on the phone, selects the requested language and connects to the internet. The device contacts the zero-touch service, discovers that its identifier belongs to the organization and retrieves the assigned configuration. Android then starts the Samsung Knox Manage enrollment flow and applies the management mode selected by the administrator.

The exact screens vary with Android release, Galaxy model, Knox Manage version and configuration. A device may display the organization name, support contact and a notice that it is managed. The user may be asked to accept terms, authenticate with a corporate identity or wait while applications and policies install. Do not promise identical wording across models.

If the phone proceeds through an ordinary consumer setup with no managed-device notice, do not assume enrollment will happen later. Stop and check registration, assignment and internet access before handing over the device.

Verification checklist for administrators

Use this checklist for the staging phone and then sample devices from each shipment batch:

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G, US Version, 512GB, Titanium Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
  • The model number, region and carrier variant match the eligibility confirmation.
  • The device identifier is present in the organization’s zero-touch account.
  • The intended configuration is assigned to that identifier.
  • The configuration specifies Android Enterprise and Samsung Knox Manage for the Knox workflow.
  • The phone reaches the managed setup after connecting to the internet.
  • Knox Manage reports the device with the expected ownership and management mode.
  • Required applications, restrictions, certificates and compliance rules arrive.
  • The support contact and organization name shown to the user are correct.
  • A reset-and-reenroll test follows your approved asset-recovery process.

Record the EMM enrollment status and serial or identifier in your asset system. This helps operations teams reconcile a missing phone, a replacement shipment or a device that was assigned to the wrong configuration.

Troubleshoot common zero-touch failures

The phone never enters managed setup

First confirm that the exact unit identifier is in the organization’s zero-touch device list and has the intended configuration assignment. Next verify that the unit came through the reseller identified in the procurement record and that it is the same model and region that were approved. Finally, connect the phone to reliable internet during setup and retry from a clean out-of-box state.

If the identifier is absent, contact the reseller rather than attempting to compensate with a manual EMM installation. If it is present but unassigned, correct the assignment and reset the phone before retrying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The wrong EMM or organization appears

Check which zero-touch account is linked in Knox Manage and which configuration is assigned to the device. An old test configuration or a device assigned under another organization can produce a valid-looking but incorrect enrollment. Correct the account link or assignment, then reset and run setup again.

The portal does not show the expected Google account

Confirm that the administrator is using the enterprise Google identity associated with the organization’s zero-touch account. Personal Gmail is not an acceptable substitute for the Knox Manage prerequisite. Check account permissions and organizational ownership before creating another account, because multiple accounts can make device assignment harder to audit.

DPC extras fail validation

Do not guess at extra names or values. Compare every field with the current Knox Manage zero-touch guide and the management mode selected for the device. Remove obsolete values from a copied configuration, save a new test configuration and validate it on one representative phone before changing the production assignment.

Enrollment works only with strong connectivity

Zero-touch requires the phone to contact the service during setup. If deployment locations have unreliable Wi-Fi or restricted outbound traffic, test the actual network and captive-portal behavior. Consider whether a different Samsung enrollment path gives administrators more control in that environment.

Android zero-touch versus Knox Mobile Enrollment

Samsung documents both Android zero-touch and Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME) for Samsung devices. It recommends KME when an organization needs a more controlled out-of-box setup, has lower-connectivity environments or must manage a varied ecosystem. That recommendation is a deployment choice, not evidence that zero-touch is unsupported on Samsung phones.

Decision factor Android zero-touch Knox Mobile Enrollment
Eligibility Depends on the exact device, OEM, country and reseller registration. Depends on Samsung model, region, reseller or distributor process and KME support.
Registration owner An eligible zero-touch reseller associates device IDs with the organization’s Google account. Samsung’s KME enrollment service and the supplying partner handle the Samsung-specific registration workflow.
Setup control Uses the Android zero-touch configuration and the selected EMM DPC. Offers Samsung-specific enrollment controls and branding options described by Samsung.
Connectivity considerations Requires internet access during first-run setup to retrieve the configuration. May be preferable where Samsung-specific controls or lower-connectivity procedures are important; validate the actual network behavior with your EMM.
Best fit Organizations standardizing Android Enterprise enrollment through a participating reseller. Organizations prioritizing additional Samsung enrollment control or operating a more varied or connectivity-constrained deployment.

Evaluate both paths against the exact SKU and country, reseller capability, EMM and management mode, desired setup controls, connectivity and account ownership. Samsung’s Knox Framework comparison is available at Samsung Knox Framework.

How other EMM products differ

The principles are consistent—eligible device, organization account, reseller registration, configuration assignment and internet-connected setup—but the implementation is not interchangeable. Another EMM may use a different DPC package, require a different set of extras, expose separate fully managed and work-profile configurations or link to zero-touch from its own administration console.

When adapting this guide, replace the Knox Manage-specific details with the provider’s current instructions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Identify the provider’s supported Android Enterprise modes and DPC.
  2. Confirm whether the provider links directly to the organization’s zero-touch account or requires an administrator to complete that link in the zero-touch portal.
  3. Use the provider’s exact DPC extras, support fields and formatting.
  4. Assign a test device, validate enrollment and only then assign the production fleet.

Never select Samsung Knox Manage in the zero-touch portal merely because the phone is a Samsung device; select the DPC that matches the EMM tenant that will actually manage the phone.

Reseller handoff and operational ownership

Put the following responsibilities in the purchase and deployment record:

  • Reseller: supplies an eligible model and registers each device identifier to the organization’s zero-touch account before shipment.
  • Identity administrator: maintains the enterprise Google account and access to the zero-touch organization.
  • EMM administrator: links the account, creates the configuration, assigns devices and defines policies.
  • Network team: permits the connectivity required during first-run setup and application installation.
  • Service desk: gives users setup instructions and a support route for managed-device prompts.
  • Asset team: reconciles identifiers, assignments, shipments, replacements and resets.

Require confirmation of registration before the shipment leaves the reseller. If a device is replaced, ask whether the replacement identifier has been registered and assigned; do not assume a swap inherits the original phone’s zero-touch status.

When zero-touch is the right choice

Choose Android zero-touch when the exact Galaxy model and region are confirmed eligible, the reseller can register devices reliably, the organization already operates an Android Enterprise-capable EMM and users can connect phones to the internet during setup. It provides a scalable handoff with minimal technician handling.

Choose a different Samsung enrollment path when the required SKU or country is not eligible, the reseller cannot perform registration, the deployment needs Samsung-specific setup control, or the environment makes first-run connectivity unreliable. In either case, validate one production-equivalent phone and the complete EMM policy set before distributing the fleet.
