Yes. Cloudflare supports Python ASGI applications on Workers, including FastAPI, through the workers.asgi.entrypoint(app) adapter pattern. But a Worker is not a conventional, long-running ASGI server: Python runs on Pyodide in a V8 isolate, and the compatibility date, bindings, runtime limits, and your dependencies all matter. Treat the official quick start as a way to get a service running—not as proof that it will meet your production workload’s performance or operational needs.
What ASGI on Workers means for your service
Cloudflare’s Python Workers run Python through Pyodide, a version of CPython compiled to WebAssembly, inside a V8 isolate. An ASGI adapter connects a framework application to the Worker request lifecycle: the framework handles an ASGI application interface, while the Worker platform supplies incoming requests and its own runtime and service integrations. This is a supported deployment path, but it does not make Workers interchangeable with a conventional server that runs an ASGI process continuously.
Cloudflare’s documentation explicitly supports FastAPI on Python Workers. Its changelog also announced support for Python web frameworks following WSGI or ASGI on September 2, 2026. The supported pattern and current framework guidance are documented in Cloudflare’s FastAPI guide and the framework-support announcement.

Start with a supported FastAPI integration
Cloudflare’s FastAPI quick start wraps the application with asgi.entrypoint(app) and exposes that entry point as Default. Its sample project declares FastAPI as an application dependency in pyproject.toml, with workers-py and workers-runtime-sdk as development dependencies. The Wrangler configuration needs a Python entry file, a compatibility date, and the python_workers compatibility flag.
from fastapi import FastAPI
from workers import asgi
app = FastAPI()
Default = asgi.entrypoint(app)
This illustrates the adapter shape, not a complete project: use the entry file, dependency declarations, and configuration structure from the current FastAPI guide. Cloudflare says, “You must add the python_workers compatibility flag to your Worker.”
Initialize and run the project locally
Cloudflare’s Python Workers overview lists uv and Node as setup prerequisites and documents this project initialization command:
uvx --from workers-py pywrangler init
For the FastAPI sample, run the local development server with:

uv run pywrangler dev
Then send a local HTTP request to check that the Worker starts and a route responds. That is a smoke check only; it does not validate production traffic, dependency behavior across all code paths, limits, observability, or failure recovery.
Deploy after checking the Worker configuration
The overview documents deployment with:
uv run pywrangler deploy
Before deploying, confirm that the Python entry point is correct, the required compatibility flag is present, the compatibility date is deliberate, and any required bindings and secrets are configured. The Python Workers overview describes the initialization and deployment flow.
Understand initialization, snapshots, and compatibility dates
Cloudflare describes a deployment process in which it uploads the code and packages, validates the code, executes the entry point and top-level imports, and snapshots WebAssembly memory before deploying the snapshot with the code. The intent is to move expensive initialization work to deployment and reduce initialization work when handling requests; it is not a published latency guarantee for a particular application.
Review import-time behavior accordingly. Module-level initialization may run during deployment, so do not assume that code executed at import time behaves like initialization in a persistent, long-running server process. Check whether imports or initialization perform side effects, depend on request-specific values, or need services that are only available through a request scope or Worker binding.

The compatibility date is also a runtime choice, not just configuration boilerplate. Cloudflare uses it to select behavior, including gates for Python/Pyodide versions. Its runtime guide describes a five-year support window for each Python release; after that window, security patches stop. Existing applications outside the window continue under Cloudflare’s stated runtime policy, but Cloudflare does not recommend those versions for new projects and gives no guarantee against degraded latency or CPU time. Record the configured date and periodically check the runtime guide for supported runtime information.
Choose bindings around the service’s state and work
Workers expose platform integrations through bindings rather than requiring every capability to be treated as part of an always-on application server. Cloudflare lists storage and database services, environment variables and secrets, service bindings, queues, object storage, and other platform capabilities, including Workers AI, Vectorize, Durable Workflows, and Durable Objects.
Select an integration from the application’s actual requirements. Decide what data must persist, what needs coordination or consistency, which services need to call one another, and whether work should happen asynchronously. The availability of a binding category does not itself determine the right database design or prove that a particular application’s data model fits it. Use the Python Workers overview to review integration categories, then evaluate the relevant service documentation for your design.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Configuration and credentials: use environment variables for configuration and secrets for sensitive values; do not put credentials in application code.
- Persistent data: select a storage or database service based on the service’s persistence, consistency, and access-pattern requirements.
- Coordination and service calls: assess whether the service needs coordination between requests or calls to other Workers and services.
- Background work: determine whether queues or workflow features match the timing and durability requirements of work that should not happen in the request path.
Deploying Django through ASGI
Cloudflare documents both ASGI and WSGI adapters for Django. Its Python Workers integration is optimized for ASGI but retains WSGI compatibility for Django. For an ASGI deployment, the documented shape is to create the Django ASGI application with get_asgi_application() and pass it to asgi.entrypoint(app). The request scope exposes Worker bindings through scope["env"].

For example, Django configuration that needs a secret can read it from workers.env; Cloudflare’s guide shows setting DJANGO_SECRET_KEY with:
uv run pywrangler secret put DJANGO_SECRET_KEY
Cloudflare also documents D1 and Durable Objects Django backends through the django-cf package. Treat those as integration options to evaluate against your application’s data and operational requirements, not as a guarantee that an existing Django project can be deployed unchanged. Follow the current Django guide for the adapter and configuration details.
Use current limits as a launch checklist
Cloudflare’s limits page, checked October 7, 2026, lists the following examples. They are not a complete limits review; limits can depend on the feature and account plan, so verify the live page and applicable plan details before launch.
Recommended Free Tools
| Limit listed by Cloudflare | Value | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Routes per zone | 1,000 | Cloudflare Workers platform limit |
Routes per zone with wrangler dev --remote |
50 | Remote development mode |
| Log data per request | 256 KB | Worker log data |
These values are platform constraints, not performance measurements. Check the current Workers limits page for the limits that apply to your configuration and launch plan.

Decide whether Workers fit this microservice
Make the decision against the application you intend to run, not the fact that a framework demo starts successfully. Workers are a reasonable candidate to evaluate when the framework and dependencies work in the Python Workers runtime, platform bindings fit the required service integrations, and the application can operate within the applicable limits. An existing application may need adaptation if it assumes a conventional persistent ASGI process, relies on incompatible packages, or expects state and services to be available through a different model.
Use a representative validation plan before treating the service as production-ready:
- Check runtime compatibility: confirm the framework and each important dependency work under Pyodide/WebAssembly, and choose a supported compatibility date.
- Inspect initialization: review imports and top-level setup for side effects or assumptions that do not hold when Cloudflare validates and snapshots the application during deployment.
- Verify integrations: configure and exercise the bindings, secrets, persistence, and service calls used by real request paths.
- Exercise representative traffic: test the application’s actual dependencies, initialization, external calls, request patterns, and error paths. Do not infer workload performance from a local smoke check.
- Review operational constraints: check current limits, applicable plan and feature requirements, logging needs, and the monitoring and recovery procedures your service requires.
Cloudflare’s documentation establishes a supported adapter path and explains the runtime model; it does not establish that Workers will outperform or cost less than another deployment for your workload. Make that comparison only with measurements and current pricing for the service you plan to operate.
