To deploy a Windows 365 security baseline, create a profile in the Intune admin center under Endpoint security > Security baselines, review its settings, and assign it first to a pilot group of Cloud PCs. Microsoft’s deployment instructions describe the Windows 365 baseline as version 24H1, but check the versions available in your tenant before choosing one. Profile creation applies the policy immediately to its assigned group, so validate the assignment scope and settings before you create it.
What the Windows 365 security baseline does
A security baseline is a collection of recommended configuration settings for a product and version. The Windows 365 baseline provides a starting configuration for Cloud PCs; it is not a guarantee that a deployment meets every organizational, regulatory, or operational requirement. Review and tailor settings to your environment.
Microsoft’s Windows 365 deployment instructions document baseline version 24H1. That page’s version is not a guarantee that 24H1 is the newest option in every tenant. In the Intune admin center, check the version offered for your environment before creating a profile. Microsoft can update baseline versions and their settings over time.
Check licensing, permissions, and target devices
- Management: Confirm Intune manages the Windows 365 Cloud PCs you intend to target. Microsoft recommends Intune as the management plane for Windows 365 devices; management scope and capabilities depend on the Cloud PC setup.
- License: Microsoft says deploying Intune security baselines requires an Intune Plan 1 subscription.
- Administrator permissions: Use an Intune role with permissions sufficient to manage security baseline profiles and their assignments. Check your organization’s role-based access control configuration if the baseline or assignment controls are unavailable.
- Target group: Identify a pilot group containing the intended Cloud PCs. Keep the initial assignment narrow enough to validate policy behavior before expanding deployment.
- Baseline type: Use the standard Windows 365 Cloud PC baseline for standard Cloud PCs. Windows 365 for Agents has a separate baseline with a different target and device-focused intent.

How to deploy a Windows 365 baseline in Intune
- Open the baseline catalog. In the Intune admin center, go to Endpoint security > Security baselines.
- Select the Windows 365 baseline. Choose the version available in your tenant. Confirm it is intended for the Cloud PC workload you manage; do not assume the documented 24H1 version is necessarily the latest tenant option.
- Create a profile and review its settings. Inspect the setting groups and defaults. Adjust settings to fit your security requirements, existing policies, and operational needs. Pay particular attention to settings that overlap with other policies.
- Set scope tags if your administration model uses them. Configure the tags that determine which administrators can view or manage the profile.
- Assign the pilot group. Target the group containing the intended test Cloud PCs. Use excluded groups where needed to refine the assignment.
- Review and create the profile. Verify the selected baseline version, settings, assignment, and exclusions before confirming. Microsoft states that once the profile is created, it is pushed to the assigned group and applied immediately.
- Validate before widening scope. Check deployment and compliance results in Intune, and test that required user and device workflows still work. Resolve unwanted effects or conflicts before assigning the profile to a broader group.
Settings and assignment decisions to review
Baseline defaults are recommendations, not universal requirements
Microsoft describes baselines as recommended settings, but the correct configuration depends on the organization. Review each setting’s intent and assess whether it fits your security controls and business requirements. A default should not be treated as mandatory simply because it is included in a baseline.
Check for overlaps and conflicts
The same setting can appear in different baseline types with different default values, and a baseline can overlap with other Intune policies or features. Intune does not determine which product baseline’s intent is right for a particular environment. Review the effective configuration across policies and decide which policy should govern each setting.
Keep the rollout staged
Because creating the profile immediately applies it to the assigned group, assignment scope is a deployment control, not an administrative detail. Start with a pilot of representative Cloud PCs, monitor the outcome, and expand in deliberate waves only after validation.
Windows 365-specific limitations and adjacent controls
Administrator protection is not supported on Cloud PCs
Microsoft says Windows 365 Cloud PCs do not support Administrator protection. If your organization has policies that enable it, Microsoft recommends using an assignment filter to exclude Cloud PCs from those policies. Do not assume the Windows 365 baseline resolves this limitation.

Defender and Purview are related controls
Windows 365 integrates with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft Purview endpoint data loss prevention. Purview endpoint DLP can govern data movement, including clipboard or drive copying and printing to unauthorized devices. These are adjacent security controls; they should not be confused with settings guaranteed by the security baseline. See Microsoft’s Windows 365 security overview.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When Windows 365 for Agents needs a different baseline
Windows 365 for Agents has its own security baseline. Microsoft describes it as device-focused and intended to be applied early, before an agent user signs in. Its prerequisites include Intune management, appropriate administrator permissions, and target groups. Use that baseline only for the corresponding Agents Cloud PC workload rather than substituting it for the standard Windows 365 Cloud PC baseline. See Microsoft’s Windows 365 for Agents Security Baseline guidance.
Windows version support considerations
Microsoft’s Intune baseline overview states that Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025. Windows 10 devices may still enroll in Intune and use eligible features, but Microsoft says functionality is not guaranteed and can vary. Confirm the operating-system versions in your Cloud PC estate and evaluate support status as part of deployment planning.
