Antihost offers Linux VPS plans with full root access, unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port and a 14-day free trial.
Deploying a website built with Google Antigravity is a two-part job: create and test a production build, then make the VPS serve that build. Antigravity is a development tool, not the public web server. For a static site, the reliable path is to push the project to Git, build it, copy the correct output directory to the VPS, configure nginx, point DNS at the server, and enable HTTPS. A Node server or database-backed application needs a reverse-proxy and application-process setup instead of simple static-file serving.
What the deployment actually does
A browser never needs to connect to Antigravity itself. Antigravity creates or edits the project; the VPS runs the software that answers HTTP requests. The finished path is:
- The Antigravity project is cleaned of development-only material.
- A production build is generated and tested locally.
- The source or build output is transferred to the VPS, commonly through a Git repository.
- A web server such as nginx serves the output directory, or proxies requests to a running Node application.
- DNS sends the domain to the VPS and HTTPS is issued for that domain.
No official Google, step-by-step VPS guide for this exact path was identified, so provider-specific screens and Antigravity release behavior should be treated as changeable. The workflow below uses the stable parts of common deployment practice and makes the decisions that matter explicit.
Choose the correct VPS deployment model
| Project result | What the VPS must run | Typical deployment target |
|---|---|---|
| Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript | Only a web server | The directory containing index.html and its assets |
| Single-page application with client-side routing | A web server with an appropriate fallback rule | The production directory, often dist/ or build/ |
| Server-rendered or API application | A running application process plus a web server reverse proxy | The application source and its declared dependencies |
| Application using a database | The application, database, backups and security controls | Not just a copied static folder |
Names such as dist/, build/ and out/ are common, but they are conventions rather than guarantees. Next.js projects commonly use .next/; that directory normally belongs to a running Next.js application and should not be treated as an ordinary static folder unless the project was explicitly configured for static export.

Prerequisites and decisions before connecting to the VPS
- A working local copy of the Antigravity project.
- The package manager and runtime required by the project, such as Node.js and npm.
- A Git repository if you want repeatable pulls and rollbacks.
- A Linux VPS account with SSH access and permission to install or configure a web server.
- A domain name whose DNS you can edit.
- A plan for where secrets will live. API keys and database passwords should not be committed to Git or embedded in a public build.
Decide whether the VPS will build the project or merely serve an already-built artifact. Building on the VPS makes deployments easy to repeat, but it requires the correct runtime and enough memory. Building locally reduces server-side tooling, but every deployment must transfer the newly generated output. Whichever method you choose, keep the build command and output directory documented in the repository.
Step 1: Remove development leftovers and unsafe references
Before creating a production artifact, inspect what Antigravity generated. Remove files that were useful only during experimentation, including test data, debug logs and temporary directories. Examples include test-data.json, debug.log and tmp/. Do not delete a file merely because its name looks temporary; verify that the application does not import it.
Search the project for hardcoded local addresses such as localhost, 127.0.0.1 and development ports. A browser-side URL pointing to a local API will work on the developer’s machine and fail for every visitor. Replace it with the production API origin or a properly configured environment variable. Check both source files and configuration files, and inspect the generated build afterward because some tools inline environment values during compilation.
Also check case-sensitive paths. A file named Logo.png may appear to work on a case-insensitive development filesystem while a Linux VPS returns a 404 for logo.png. Confirm that every imported filename, directory name and extension matches exactly.
Step 2: Create and test a production build locally
A development server is not a deployment test. It can hide missing imports, type errors, case errors and packages that happen to be installed globally or in a local environment but are absent from the project’s declared dependencies.

- Open a terminal in the project root.
- Install the dependencies from the lockfile. For an npm project,
npm ciis the reproducible option when a compatible lockfile is present. If the project has no lockfile, use the package-manager command documented by its configuration rather than guessing. - Run the project’s production build command, commonly
npm run build. Antigravity-generated projects may use a different script, so inspectpackage.jsonbefore running it. - Read the build output for compilation, type-checking and asset errors. A command that exits successfully is necessary but not sufficient; open the result in a browser.
- Identify the output directory. Look for the folder documented by the build tool, commonly
dist/,build/orout/. Confirm that it contains the entry HTML file and the referenced asset directories. - Serve that actual directory with a simple local static server. For example,
npx serve -s disttests a static single-page build indist/; substitute the directory your build really produced.
Test a fresh browser session, direct navigation to an internal route, refreshes, forms, image loading and any API calls. If a route works only after clicking from the home page but fails when opened directly, the server will need a single-page-app fallback rule, covered below.

Step 3: Put the project in Git and choose what to transfer
Commit the source and deployment configuration to a private or appropriately protected repository. Do not commit private keys, production passwords, database dumps or an environment file containing secrets. Add generated directories to the ignore rules when the project is intended to be built on the server; otherwise keep the build artifact in a separate release process.
There are two practical transfer patterns:
| Pattern | Advantages | Risks and requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Clone source on the VPS and build there | Repeatable deployments and small Git-based updates | The VPS needs the correct runtime, package manager, memory and access to any private dependencies |
| Build locally and copy the output | The VPS only needs to serve the finished files; build failures occur before release | You must transfer every release and avoid copying stale or incomplete assets |
For either pattern, record the commit deployed to production. That single reference makes it possible to identify which release introduced a problem and to restore a known-good revision.
Step 4: Prepare the VPS without exposing unnecessary services
Connect with SSH using a non-root administrative account where possible, apply the operating system’s security updates, and install only the software the chosen deployment model needs. Configure the provider or operating-system firewall so that SSH is restricted to the addresses or access path your team actually uses, while HTTP and HTTPS are available for the public site.
The exact package commands differ by Linux distribution, so do not copy a command intended for another distribution without checking its package manager and service layout. The important prerequisites are an accessible document directory, a web server for static delivery, and a process supervisor or equivalent service mechanism if the site includes a long-running application.

A VPS gives direct control, but that control also makes your team responsible for security updates, monitoring, backups and recovery. If you do not need operating-system access, a managed host with Git deployment and a file manager can remove much of this maintenance; it does not change the need for a correct production build.
Step 5: Copy the build to a release directory
Create a directory dedicated to the site, such as /var/www/example-site, and make sure the web-server account can read the files. A safer release layout keeps each deployment in its own timestamped directory and points the active site at the selected release. A simpler first deployment can copy the contents of the output directory directly into the site directory, provided you remove obsolete assets so old files are not served accidentally.
When pulling from Git on the VPS, build from the intended commit rather than from an unreviewed working tree. When copying from a workstation, transfer the contents of the output directory, not the directory itself nested one level deeper. The document root must contain the entry file at the path the server expects; for a conventional static site, that means /var/www/example-site/index.html.
After transfer, inspect permissions and verify that filenames retain their exact capitalization. A successful file copy does not prove that the web server can read every asset.

Step 6: Configure nginx for a static site
Create an nginx server block for the domain and set its root to the directory that contains the production files. A minimal static configuration has this shape:

server {
listen 80;
server_name example.com www.example.com;
root /var/www/example-site;
index index.html;
location / {
try_files $uri $uri/ =404;
}
}
The try_files rule above returns a 404 when no file or directory matches. That is appropriate for a traditional multi-page static site where every URL is a real file. For a client-side single-page application, browser navigation is handled by JavaScript after the initial document loads, so use the fallback form instead:
location / {
try_files $uri $uri/ /index.html;
}
Use the fallback only when the application is designed for it. Applying it to an API or a server-rendered application can turn genuine missing-resource errors into misleading copies of the home page.
Validate the configuration before reloading nginx:
sudo nginx -t
sudo systemctl reload nginx
If the test reports an error, nginx keeps the previous configuration; correct the reported file and test again. Visit the server by IP or temporary hostname to distinguish web-server problems from DNS problems, while remembering that HTTPS certificates normally require the real domain.

- At the DNS provider, create an A record for the bare domain pointing to the VPS IPv4 address. Add a corresponding record for
wwwif you intend to serve that hostname. Use an AAAA record only when the VPS has working IPv6 configured. - Wait for the record to become visible through DNS resolvers. A local cached result can make a correct change appear ineffective for a while.
- Confirm that nginx’s
server_namevalues match the hostnames visitors will use. - Issue a certificate through an ACME client such as Certbot after DNS reaches the VPS. A typical nginx integration command is
sudo certbot --nginx -d example.com -d www.example.com; the exact package installation and renewal setup depend on the VPS distribution. - Test both HTTP and HTTPS. Redirect plain HTTP to HTTPS only after the secure virtual host works, and verify that images, scripts, fonts and API requests do not use insecure HTTP URLs.
HTTPS is a separate layer from the application build. A correct certificate cannot fix an incorrect document root, missing asset or broken client-side route.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.When the project is a Node server or uses a database
A server application cannot be deployed by copying its source into nginx’s static root. The VPS must install the required runtime, install production dependencies, provide environment variables securely, start the application as a managed service and place nginx in front of it as a reverse proxy. The application then listens on a local port while nginx handles the public domain, TLS and request forwarding.

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
Database-backed deployments add migrations, backups, least-privilege database credentials, network restrictions and a recovery plan. Keep the database off the public internet unless there is a specific, protected requirement. Because the exact commands depend on the framework and database engine, use the project’s own start script and deployment documentation rather than assuming that a static-site recipe applies.
If the project creates both a server bundle and a browser bundle, deploy each to its intended location. Serving the browser files while forgetting the server process produces a page that may load but cannot complete API requests.
Running Antigravity on the VPS is a different task
You may want Antigravity available on the server for remote development, but that does not host the public website. The site remains dependent on nginx or an application process and on the deployed build.
CLI access over SSH
One third-party guide published in 2026 claims that a Linux SSH session can cause the Antigravity CLI to print a URL for authorization in a local browser. This is an unverified, version-sensitive behavior, so treat it as a possibility rather than a guaranteed setup step. Do not expose an administrative SSH service broadly just to make an agent reachable; use a restricted access path such as a jump host or VPN where appropriate.
IDE access through a Windows VPS
A separate third-party account describes installing the IDE on a Windows VPS and connecting through Remote Desktop. Closing the Remote Desktop window can disconnect the display session while leaving the process running, but this is remote development continuity, not web hosting. You still need to build, transfer and serve the website through the hosting stack.
Common failures and the fastest way to isolate them
| Symptom | Likely cause | Checks and fix |
|---|---|---|
| nginx shows its default page | The request is reaching nginx but not the intended server block | Check the enabled configuration, server_name, document root and reload result. Test with the domain’s Host header after DNS is correct. |
| 404 for JavaScript or CSS | Wrong root, nested copied directory or case mismatch | Confirm the exact file path under the root and compare URL capitalization with filenames. |
| Refreshing an internal SPA route returns 404 | The server is using a file-only rule | Use try_files $uri $uri/ /index.html; for the SPA location and reload nginx. |
| The home page loads but API calls fail | Hardcoded localhost URL, wrong production origin or stopped backend | Inspect browser network requests, production environment values and the application-process logs. |
| Build succeeds locally but fails on the VPS | Different runtime version, undeclared dependency, missing environment variable or case-sensitive path | Compare runtime versions, install from the lockfile, declare every dependency and reproduce the build from a clean checkout. |
| HTTPS certificate issuance fails | DNS still points elsewhere, port 80/443 is blocked or the hostname is missing from nginx | Verify DNS, firewall rules and every requested server_name before retrying. |
| Old files remain after deployment | Copying new files over an old release leaves removed assets behind | Deploy to a clean release directory or remove obsolete files deliberately, then reload the server. |
Check the browser’s network panel first for client-side failures, nginx’s error log for file and permission failures, and the application log for server-side failures. This separates a build problem from a DNS, web-server or backend problem instead of changing several layers at once.

Security and operational checklist
- Keep SSH keys, API credentials and database passwords out of Git and out of client-side bundles.
- Restrict SSH access and keep the VPS operating system, nginx, runtime and dependencies patched.
- Expose only the ports required for SSH, HTTP and HTTPS; keep databases and internal application ports private.
- Run the application with a dedicated unprivileged account rather than as root.
- Back up the database and any user-uploaded files separately from the VPS disk.
- Test certificate renewal and document how to restore the previous release.
- Keep a record of the deployed Git commit, build command, output directory and environment-variable names.
- Monitor disk space, memory, application health and certificate expiry.
Repeatable release procedure
- Review the change and remove test data, logs and temporary files.
- Search for local URLs and confirm production environment values.
- Install from the lockfile and run the production build locally.
- Serve the actual output directory locally and test direct routes, refreshes, forms and assets.
- Commit the release and record its identifier.
- Build on the VPS or transfer the clean output, according to the chosen pattern.
- Verify the document root, ownership and file capitalization.
- Run
sudo nginx -t, reload nginx and inspect the site over its domain. - Check HTTPS, browser console errors, API requests and representative deep links.
- Keep the previous release available until the new one has passed verification, then remove it according to your retention policy.
The central distinction is simple: Antigravity helps produce the application, while the VPS’s web server or application process delivers it. Once that boundary is clear, deployment becomes a controlled build, transfer, configuration, DNS and HTTPS procedure rather than an attempt to run the development tool as the website itself.
