How do I delete my Grindr account?
Grindr treats account closure as profile deletion. The action must be started from the signed-in app; removing the app from your phone does not close the account. Before confirming, make sure you have saved anything you need, because Grindr says a deleted profile cannot be recovered.
Before you start
Confirm that you are signed in to the profile you actually intend to close. If you want a copy of your information, request Download My Data before deleting the profile. Delete a Grindr account on Android
- Open Grindr and tap your profile.
- Tap the Settings gear in the upper-left corner.
- Tap Deactivate.
- Choose Delete Account.
- Select a reason for deleting the account. You may leave brief feedback, but feedback is optional.
- If the account was created with an email address and password, complete the requested email verification.
- Tap Delete Profile and complete any final confirmation. The app may ask you to type DELETE.
After confirmation, the profile is no longer available as an active Grindr account. Do not rely on an uninstall or a device change as a substitute for these steps.
Delete a Grindr account on iPhone or iPad
- Open Grindr and tap your profile at the upper left.
- Tap the Settings gear at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings.
- Tap Delete Profile.

What profile deletion changes

Deletion is not an instant erasure of every technical record
Closing the profile prevents it from being visible to other Grindr users, but Grindr’s Privacy Policy describes a processing period and limited exceptions. The normal period for personal-information deletion is generally within 28 days. The policy also allows limited retention for safety, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, internal reporting, metrics, and statistics. Therefore, do not interpret the confirmation screen as a promise that every record disappears at the exact moment you tap the button.
Should you download a copy of your data first?
Request a data export before deletion if you need a record of your profile information, preferences, account settings, chats, or images you uploaded or sent. This can matter for a personal archive, a safety issue, or a formal privacy request. The export and deletion are separate actions, so downloading a copy does not close the profile.
Plan the order around your priority. Exporting first preserves information but the server-side portion can take up to 15–30 days. Deleting first closes the profile sooner, but you may lose the easiest way to authenticate and retrieve information. If the report is important, submit it, download each part, and store the files before confirming deletion.

- Open your profile image.
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to Download My Data under Security and Privacy.
- Authenticate as prompted.
- Choose an email address and verify it.
- Submit the request.
The app may download the first part directly to the device after submission. Check that the download completed and move it to a secure location you control. If the report contains sensitive information, protect the file and avoid forwarding the link or access code.
Request a copy through Grindr Web
Grindr Web provides a similar Download Data route. Sign in, follow the data-download prompts, and complete any identity or email verification requested. Use the same account details you would use in the app so the request is tied to the correct profile.

What the report can contain
- Chats and images that you sent.
- Images uploaded to your profile.
- Profile information, preference choices, and other account settings.
- A separation between information stored on your device and information stored on Grindr’s servers.
The export does not include messages or media sent to you by other users. Grindr says the app provides access to the past year of full chat history. The report therefore should not be treated as a complete archive of every item ever exchanged with every person.
Server-held information is delivered through an expiring secure email link with a unique access code. Open the message promptly, use the code as directed, and save the report before the link expires. If you requested the export but have not received the server portion after one week, Grindr says you can resubmit the request or contact support.

The first part of the report downloads to the device when you submit the request. The server-side portion is usually processed in a few days and, according to Grindr’s Help Center, should take no longer than 15–30 days. That is a data-report timetable, not the timetable for deleting the profile.
If you are banned or cannot submit the request in the app, contact Grindr support. After verifying your identity, support can provide a report of information held on its servers. That report cannot include information stored only on your device, such as some profile notes, filters, and settings. Be clear that you are asking for server-held information and understand that device-only material may not be recoverable through support.
How do I request deletion of my personal data?
Grindr’s Privacy Policy identifies deletion as a privacy right where the law in your jurisdiction provides it. You can exercise it by deleting the profile through the app, or by submitting a privacy request when an in-app deletion is not possible.

Why some information can remain
The Privacy Policy describes limited retention for safety, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, internal reporting, metrics, and statistics. It specifically says a device identifier and limited log information may remain for up to two years after account deletion. These exceptions mean you should not promise yourself or someone else that every technical record will be removed immediately or that no retention is legally possible.
“When you decide to delete your account, your personal information will be removed from Grindr’s systems in accordance with our Privacy Policy.”
That wording appears on Grindr’s account-deletion guidance. The 28-day general period and the limited-retention categories above are the qualifications in the Privacy Policy.
Will deleting your Grindr account cancel a premium subscription?
No. Profile deletion and subscription cancellation are separate actions. Deleting the profile does not stop recurring charges, and cancelling the subscription does not close the profile.
Before deleting the profile, identify which subscription-management route billed you and cancel there. Use the relevant store or account billing controls, keep the cancellation confirmation, and check the next renewal date. The deletion option is missing
Check that you are signed in to the profile you intend to close, update the app, and revisit Settings. Android places the option under Deactivate, while iOS places Delete Profile near the bottom of Settings. Labels can change between app versions, so use the current Help Center path if the screen differs.
You cannot log in or are banned
Contact Grindr support rather than creating a replacement profile to try to trigger deletion. Support may request identity information and can help with a privacy request or a server-side data report.
