Use each assistant’s own privacy control: Alexa recordings are managed in the Alexa app under More > Alexa Privacy > Review Alexa History; Google Assistant audio saved to your account is managed under Google Account > Data & privacy > Web & App Activity > Manage activity; and Apple’s documented deletion route is on a Mac at System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri (or Siri) > Delete Siri & Dictation History. Turning off future saving or audio sharing is a separate action and does not automatically erase everything already stored.
The services do not expose identical histories. Depending on the platform, a history entry can include an audio file, a transcript, a typed request, or other activity. Follow the platform-specific procedure below, then check the separate settings that control future saving. None of these controls should be treated as proof that every related copy has disappeared from every system.

These are platform policy windows, not measurements of how quickly every backup or related record disappears. The controls are separate: deleting Alexa history does not delete Google or Apple history, and deleting one Google activity entry does not manage Alexa or Siri.
Before you delete anything
Know whether you need audio, text, or both removed
A voice assistant interaction can produce several data types. The microphone recording is the audio. Speech recognition can create a transcript. A request typed into an app may be stored as text without any recording. The assistant may also retain the action it took—for example, a reminder, shopping information, or a result delivered by a third-party skill. A control that lists recordings is not necessarily a control for every one of those related records.

Use the account, device, and marketplace that contain the history
Sign in to the account that was active when the request was made. If a household has multiple accounts, repeat the check for each one. Amazon specifically says Alexa history must be deleted separately for each marketplace when an account uses more than one marketplace. Google and Apple likewise separate account or device settings, so a deletion made in one signed-in account should not be assumed to apply to another.
Save information you still need
Deleting history can remove useful context and can affect personalization. Alexa warns that deletion can affect features including Voice ID. If you need a transcript for a record, copy it before deleting it; after deletion, the platform may not offer a recovery option.
How to delete Alexa voice recordings
Delete individual recordings or a selected period in the Alexa app
- Open the Alexa mobile app.
- Tap More.
- Choose Alexa Privacy.
- Open Review Alexa History.
- Use the date, device, or interaction filters to find the request you want to remove.
- Open an entry to review its available audio and text details, then use the delete control. If the screen offers a range or bulk-delete option, select the intended period and confirm.
Amazon also provides the Alexa privacy settings page at amazon.com/alexaprivacysettings. The exact labels can vary by app version and marketplace, but the history review page is the place to inspect what Amazon associates with your account.

In Alexa Privacy, look for the history or automatic-deletion setting. Amazon lists automatic deletion after 3 or 18 months. This is a recurring policy choice for eligible history, not an instruction to erase everything immediately. Selecting a period does not replace deleting older entries now if you want them removed sooner.
Stop saving new voice recordings
Alexa Privacy also provides a choice not to save voice recordings. Amazon says that when no recordings are saved, existing recordings are automatically deleted after processing. That setting does not mean all text disappears at the same moment: transcripts and typed requests are retained for 30 days after the last interaction in a chat, and you can delete those text items sooner.

Do not confuse this setting with a retroactive purge of every Alexa-related record. Amazon’s Alexa and Alexa Device FAQs explain the separate treatment of recordings, transcripts, and typed requests.
What happens after you request deletion
Amazon describes deletion as a process rather than an instant screen change: “When you request deletion, we begin the process of securely deleting your data from Amazon’s cloud storage systems.” During processing, Amazon says requested data may still be used for personalization. Allow time for the request to complete before treating the disappearance of an entry as final.

Amazon says deleting the listed Alexa history does not necessarily delete:
- Records of actions Alexa took, such as shopping or reminder information.
- Attachments associated with an interaction.
- Information shared with a skill developer.
- Data stored outside Amazon’s cloud.
- De-identified data.
Those categories may require a separate product, skill, or account action, and the cited Alexa history control does not promise their removal. If a skill handled sensitive information, review that skill’s own privacy and account controls as well.
How to delete Google Assistant audio recordings
Find saved recordings in Web & App Activity
- Sign in to the Google Account used by Assistant.
- Open Data & privacy.
- Under history settings, select Web & App Activity.
- Choose Manage activity.
- Look for entries with an audio icon. Google says those entries include a saved recording; open the entry details to play it and inspect the associated activity.
- Use the entry’s delete control to remove one item, or use the available date or range controls for a larger deletion. Confirm the choice shown by Google.
The official instructions are in Google Search Help: Manage audio recordings in your Web & App Activity. Google’s account interface can change, and its help documentation notes that some Web & App Activity settings are being updated, so follow the labels displayed in your account.

Turn off saving of future voice and audio activity
Within Web & App Activity, find Include voice and audio activity. Google says this setting is off unless you enable it. If you turn it off, new Assistant voice inputs are not saved to the Google Account under that setting. It is not a deletion command. Google states: “If you turn this voice and audio activity setting off, previously saved audio is not deleted.” Delete existing entries separately using Manage activity.

Set automatic deletion for Assistant activity
Google Assistant’s data controls also offer automatic deletion after 3 or 18 months. This applies to the activity covered by the selected account history setting. It does not establish that every copy of every recording, transcript, or related service record is removed on that exact schedule.
Use Guest Mode when you do not want activity saved to the account
Google describes Guest Mode as an option in which Assistant activity is not saved to the account or used to personalize the experience. Guest Mode is a forward-looking choice for eligible interactions; it is not a replacement for deleting recordings already listed in Web & App Activity.
Understand what the audio setting does not cover
Google’s audio help page warns that recordings may be saved in other places depending on your settings. It specifically identifies other Google services and on-device Voice Match or audio-personalization data as outside the effect of the Web & App Activity audio setting. Therefore:
- Deleting an audio entry from Web & App Activity addresses that account history entry.
- Turning off Include voice and audio activity addresses future saving under that setting.
- Neither action should be described as removing every audio copy from every Google service or from the device.

How to delete Siri and Dictation history on a Mac
Use Apple’s documented Mac deletion path
- Connect the Mac to the internet.
- Open System Settings.
- Select Apple Intelligence & Siri. On some Mac versions the section is labeled Siri.
- Click Delete Siri & Dictation History.
- Choose Delete to confirm.
Apple’s guide says this removes request history—audio recordings and transcripts—associated with a random identifier and less than six months old. The eligibility wording matters: the cited procedure does not say that every Siri or Dictation record of any age is deleted by this button.
The source for this Mac-specific route is Apple Support: Delete Siri and Dictation history on Mac. The guide is current as cited on June 2, 2026. Do not silently substitute an iPhone or iPad route for these Mac instructions; Apple’s labels and controls vary by device and operating-system version.
Turn off Improve Siri & Dictation separately
Apple describes Improve Siri & Dictation as optional. When enabled, Apple may store and review samples of Siri, Dictation, and Translate interactions, including audio, transcripts, and related request data. Device-specific Analytics & Improvements or privacy settings control that choice.
Deleting the Mac history does not change the sharing preference. Apple states: “Deleting Siri and Dictation history doesn’t change the choice you made about sharing audio recordings.” To stop future sharing, open the applicable privacy or Analytics & Improvements setting on each device and change Improve Siri & Dictation there. That setting change is not a substitute for using Delete Siri & Dictation History when you want eligible existing history removed.
How the three services differ
Alexa combines audio and text controls in one history review
Alexa’s history review can show voice recordings, their transcripts, and typed requests associated with the account. It also exposes automatic deletion choices and a no-save option for voice recordings. The 30-day text-retention rule applies specifically when recordings are not saved and is measured from the last interaction in a chat.

Google separates account audio activity from other possible copies
Google identifies saved recordings with an audio icon in Web & App Activity. The account setting controls whether future voice and audio activity is included, while Google cautions that other services, Voice Match, or on-device personalization can involve separate data. Guest Mode is another forward-looking way to keep Assistant activity out of the account.
Apple’s cited flow is a Mac request-history deletion, not a universal device switch
Apple’s documented button covers audio recordings and transcripts tied to a random identifier and less than six months old. The Mac must be online, and the choice about sharing audio is controlled elsewhere. The six-month eligibility statement should not be generalized to every Apple device or every Siri-related record.
After deletion: verify without assuming total erasure
- Return to the same history page and search the date range or account again. A missing entry confirms that it is no longer listed in that particular control.
- Check whether the future-saving setting is still enabled. Deleting old entries alone does not necessarily change the setting that governs new interactions.
- For Alexa, review whether the account uses more than one marketplace and repeat the process where required.
- For Google, inspect whether any remaining entries belong to another signed-in account or another Google activity surface.
- For Apple, confirm that you used the Mac deletion flow while connected to the internet and separately review the Improve Siri & Dictation choice on the relevant devices.
- Expect a processing interval where the provider documents one. Amazon specifically says secure deletion begins when requested and may take time.
A history page is a view into a particular account or control, not a universal inventory of every copy. Related actions, skill-developer data, other Google services, on-device personalization, de-identified records, and information outside a provider’s cloud can follow different retention and deletion rules.

“I turned off recording, so why is the old audio still there?”
Future-saving controls and deletion controls are different. In Google’s case, turning off Include voice and audio activity explicitly leaves previously saved audio intact. Delete the existing entries from Manage activity. In Alexa, choose the relevant history entries or automatic-deletion option; the no-save choice governs recordings going forward and has separate transcript behavior.
“I deleted the transcript, but the action or reminder remains.”
A transcript is not the same as the action an assistant performed. Alexa says action records, shopping or reminder information, attachments, and some third-party skill data may not be deleted through Alexa history. Review the product or skill that created the related record.
“The menu name does not match the instructions.”
Labels vary by app, account region, device, and software release. On a Mac, Apple may show Apple Intelligence & Siri or simply Siri. In Alexa, use More > Alexa Privacy and then look for the history review page. In Google, start at the account’s Data & privacy page and open Web & App Activity. Verify that you are signed into the intended account before deleting anything.
“I use several devices. Do I need to repeat the process?”
Usually, you need to check each account and each control that can hold data. Alexa’s marketplace rule is explicit. Google’s account history is distinct from other services and on-device data. Apple’s cited deletion procedure is specifically a Mac guide, while sharing preferences can be device-specific. Treat a multi-device household as several places to audit rather than assuming one switch covers all of them.

A practical deletion checklist
- Identify the assistant, account, device, and date range involved.
- Decide whether you need to remove audio, transcripts, typed requests, or related activity.
- Delete existing entries in the service’s history control.
- Turn off future saving or sharing separately if that is your goal.
- Set automatic deletion where offered: Alexa and Google list 3- or 18-month choices.
- Record the platform-specific limits: Alexa’s 30-day text period when recordings are not saved; Apple’s Mac flow for history less than six months old.
- Check separate services, skills, devices, marketplaces, and accounts for related data.
- Revisit the history page after the provider’s processing period, without treating an empty list as proof that every copy everywhere is gone.
