To delete one contact on a Samsung Galaxy, open the Contacts app, tap the contact, open More (usually the three-dot menu), choose Delete, and confirm. To remove several, open the contact list’s selection or edit controls, select the entries, then choose Delete and confirm. Exact menu labels can vary by model and software version.
Delete one contact
- Open the Contacts app. If you have multiple contact lists or accounts, check that you are viewing the list containing the entry.
- Tap the contact you want to remove.
- Tap More or the three-dot menu, then choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Samsung’s UK contact-management instructions use this route. Samsung notes that screens may look different depending on the device and operating system; the Samsung Gulf guide also covers viewing and editing Galaxy contacts.
Delete multiple contacts
- Open Contacts.
- Open the menu or control for selecting contacts. Depending on the phone, this may be Edit, Select, or a similar option.
- Mark each contact you want to delete. Check the selected names before proceeding.
- Tap Delete, then confirm.
The menu path is not identical across Galaxy models. The Galaxy Z Fold6 manual shows ⋮ → Edit for selecting contacts, while the Galaxy S9+ manual documents ⋮ → Delete. Use the closest selection or edit control available on your device rather than expecting one label on every Galaxy.
Check where the contact is stored before deleting
The Contacts app can show entries stored in different places, including the phone and online accounts. Google contacts may sync to the phone and appear in Contacts when synchronization is enabled. Before making bulk changes, confirm the account or list you are viewing and consider backing up important contacts. Samsung advises backing up contacts before syncing because a sync error can result in deletions; see its Galaxy-to-Google contact sync guidance and US contacts support page.

If the entry belongs to a Google account, check that account and manage the contact in Google Contacts if needed. The available screens and options can differ by device, operating system, and carrier, as Samsung explains in its contact-management guidance.
If a deleted contact comes back
A returning entry may be coming from a different contact source or sync path. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking where the contact is stored, including the SIM, and whether an app or messenger also contains it. These are possible causes, not a guarantee that every returning contact has one of them. See Samsung’s contact deletion troubleshooting page.

- Check whether you are viewing phone contacts, SIM contacts, or contacts from an account.
- For a Google-stored entry, verify the account and review it in Google Contacts.
- If the contact is being synced, check the relevant account’s contact-sync settings before deleting it again.
Recover a contact deleted by mistake
Recovery depends on the contact’s storage location and the options available on your software version. Samsung Gulf describes recovery through Google Contacts or the Samsung Contacts Recycle Bin in its guidance for erased contacts.
Samsung Russia states that for Android 15 and Android 16, deleted contacts are kept in the Recycle Bin for 30 days. That period is specific to the versions and regional guidance on that page, not a universal retention rule for every Galaxy phone or account. The same page says SIM-stored contacts cannot be recovered through that Recycle Bin route. See Samsung Russia’s contact recovery instructions.
