Use two separate actions: first delete the griefbot, companion, or account through the service’s own controls; then send a written privacy request naming the account, the deceased person (if applicable), the uploaded materials, and the training-data questions you need answered. Account deletion does not, by itself, prove that training records, derived data, backups, or model parameters have been erased.
What you should do first
Deleting an AI griefbot is not one universal operation. Each provider decides what its delete button removes, how long it retains records, which processors hold copies, and whether it can answer questions about model training. The safest practical process is therefore:
- Identify the service and preserve the account details needed for verification.
- Check the provider’s stated deletion scope and export anything you are legally or practically entitled to keep.
- Use the provider’s current account or companion-deletion controls.
- Send a separate privacy request asking about all personal data, processors, retention exceptions, and training or fine-tuning use.
- Save the request, ticket number, identity documents supplied, response, and any appeal or regulator route.
These steps apply whether the bot represented a deceased relative, friend, public figure, or another person whose voice, photographs, writing, or memories were uploaded.
Prepare before pressing Delete
Record the identifiers the provider will need
Write down the account email or user ID, the griefbot or companion’s name, and any project, workspace, conversation, or support-ticket identifiers. If the account belongs to someone who has died, record your relationship to that person and the evidence you can provide if the service asks for authority.

Use only the provider’s official support or privacy channel. Do not email sensitive identity documents to an address copied from an unverified forum post. If the service offers a privacy form, start there and keep a copy of the completed submission.
Decide whether you need an export
Deletion may be permanent. If you need a personal record for family, estate, research, or legal reasons, ask about export options before deleting. Do not assume that a later support request can restore chats, images, audio, memories, or metadata.
Part 1: Delete the companion or account through the service
Replika
Replika’s account-deletion instructions direct users to Account Settings in the mobile app or web account and then through the delete-account flow. The help page says the action is permanent and cannot be undone. It lists the profile, badges, levels, experience points, chat history, photos, and exchanged links among the material removed.

Replika also says there is no current way to delete all message history while keeping the account. Its Memory section is separate: you can view, edit, or delete individual remembered details. Deleting a memory is therefore narrower than deleting the account and does not substitute for the account-deletion process when you want the conversation history removed.
AIGriefBot
AIGriefBot’s policy, updated September 16, 2026, says a user can delete a companion. The policy states that deletion permanently removes the companion’s conversations, uploads, memories, and synthetic voice, including deletion at its voice provider.
That is the service’s own policy description. Treat it as the provider’s stated scope, not as independent technical verification of every backup, log, cache, or downstream system. If you need a broader confirmation, send the separate privacy request in Part 2.

Other griefbots and companions
Do not apply either example automatically to another service. Look for labels such as Account Settings, Delete account, Delete companion, Privacy, Data rights, or Erasure request. Read the confirmation screen carefully: some controls delete only a character, while others close the entire account. Capture the date and wording of the confirmation before leaving the page.

A deletion button may address the user-facing account while leaving unanswered questions about processors, uploaded source files, derived profiles, retention exceptions, or training use. Send a distinct request through the provider’s privacy channel when you want the provider to examine those issues explicitly.
What to include
- The account email or user ID and the griefbot or companion name.
- The name of the person represented by the bot and your relationship to that person.
- Uploaded photographs, documents, recordings, voice samples, messages, memories, and other source material you want covered.
- Conversation logs, generated images or audio, memory notes, embeddings, profiles, or other derived personal data, if applicable.
- A request to delete personal data held by the service and its processors.
- A request to identify data that cannot be deleted and the reason, such as a legal obligation, another person’s rights, or a legal claim.
- Questions about model training, fine-tuning, datasets, and any available unlearning or suppression process.
- A request for confirmation when the review is complete.
Replika’s privacy policy says its deletion right extends to personal data held by service providers, including AI language-model providers, and that it will instruct those providers to delete under its contractual arrangements. The same policy describes limits where deletion would interfere with other people’s rights, legal obligations, or legal claims. Those terms are specific to that policy and do not establish the result for every provider.
Copy-and-adapt request template
Subject: Request to delete account and personal data associated with [name/account]
Please delete the account and personal data associated with [account email or user ID] and [griefbot/companion name]. This request covers uploaded source files, conversation history, memories or notes, generated images or voice, and personal data held by your service providers.
Please tell me whether any of this material was used for model training or fine-tuning, identify any data you cannot delete and the reason, and confirm when the request is complete. If a separate process applies because I am acting for a deceased person, please tell me what authority documents you require.This is a practical template, not a quotation from a platform and not legal advice. Adapt it to the service’s form and your circumstances. Send it from the registered email when possible, because that can simplify identity verification.
Replika’s stated privacy-request process
Replika’s support article describes a form-based erasure route and says to submit from the registered email so the service can verify identity. It says the company will confirm receipt and respond within one month. That is the page’s stated process; it is not a universal deadline and does not promise that every request will be granted.

Use precise questions rather than assuming that “delete my account” has a technical meaning beyond the account system.

Questions worth asking
- Were my uploads, conversations, memories, images, or voice files used to train or fine-tune any model?
- Are those materials still present in a training dataset, evaluation set, retrieval index, embedding store, safety-review queue, or other derived system?
- Which processors, hosting companies, voice providers, analytics services, or model providers received the data?
- What can be deleted from those systems, and what retention period or legal exception applies to anything that cannot be deleted?
- If data influenced a model, is there a documented unlearning, suppression, retraining, or output-filtering process?
- Will future responses be prevented from reproducing the person’s information, voice, or likeness?
An account-deletion confirmation answers only what the provider says it removed from the account. It does not establish that model weights, training snapshots, backups, logs, or derived artifacts have been changed. The cited policies do not support a universal promise that deleting an account reverses model training.
Do not confuse response removal with account deletion
OpenAI describes a privacy-portal process for requesting that certain personal information stop appearing in ChatGPT responses. It says requests are reviewed case by case and balanced against other considerations. A response-removal process is not necessarily account deletion, erasure of training records, or removal of information from model parameters. Ask the provider which of those outcomes it is actually considering.
If you no longer have account access
Start with the provider’s account-recovery and privacy channels rather than creating a second account. Give the old email address, user ID, companion name, approximate creation date, and any ticket or billing reference you still have. Explain that you are requesting deletion and need an identity-verification alternative.
A provider may require proof that you control the account or may decline to disclose information until verification is complete. Do not send more personal material than the provider requests. If you cannot recover access, ask whether the privacy team can process an erasure request without login credentials and what evidence it accepts.
If the person whose data was used has died
Posthumous requests add an authority question. A relative may not possess the deceased person’s credentials or have automatic authority to access or delete the account. State clearly that you are acting for a deceased person and ask what representative documents the platform requires before sending them.
CNIL’s 2025 foresight report describes digital-legacy situations in which platforms require account access and offer no alternative when a beneficiary lacks the deceased person’s login details. That report demonstrates a practical access problem; it is not a complete statement of law outside France and does not create one rule for every service or jurisdiction.

Provide only the evidence requested through the official channel. Depending on the service and location, the provider may ask for proof of death, proof of relationship, an estate document, or another form of authority. The applicable rights and procedure depend on local law, the account contract, and the provider’s role.

A provider may identify a lawful retention exception, another person’s rights, a legal claim, security records, or a technical limitation. Ask the company to describe the category, reason, retention period, and whether access or use is restricted while it is retained.
Replika’s policy expressly describes limitations tied to other people’s rights, legal obligations, and legal claims. The Italian data-protection authority’s 2025 notice about an investigation into Replika discusses transparency, legal-basis, and data-lifecycle questions. The notice is regulator context, not proof that every provider behaves the same way or a final universal ruling on deletion.
If the response says data was shared with processors, ask whether deletion instructions were sent to each processor and whether any processor confirmed completion. A provider may be able to identify categories or recipients without disclosing confidential security details or every internal system name.

If you used more than one griefbot, compare the policies using the same questions. Record the answers in your own notes rather than assuming that similar buttons have similar effects.

Only attribute a specific scope to a service when its current policy says so. Replika lists account materials and separate memory controls; AIGriefBot states that companion deletion covers conversations, uploads, memories, and synthetic voice, including its voice provider. Those are provider statements, not guarantees that every service uses the same systems or achieves identical technical results.

Keep an evidence trail
Save the date and time of deletion, the confirmation screen, the privacy request, ticket number, identity-verification material supplied, and the provider’s final response. Keep the original wording of any stated retention exception and note whether the provider answered each training question.
If the provider offers an appeal, data-protection officer, or regulator route, record the deadline and submission method. Replika says users may complain to a data-protection regulator where applicable, including in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Rights and regulator routes depend on where the person lives and how the service operates; the same remedy is not available everywhere.
Common problems and practical fixes
The delete button is missing
Check both the mobile app and web account, because a control may appear in only one interface. Search the provider’s official help center for “delete account,” “delete companion,” and “erasure.” If the control still cannot be found, open a privacy ticket and request written instructions.
You deleted a memory but chats remain
Memory controls generally affect remembered details, not the complete conversation archive. Replika explicitly separates individual memory deletion from full message-history deletion, which requires account deletion under its current help guidance.
The provider confirms account closure but ignores training questions
Reply in the same ticket with the unanswered questions listed separately: training or fine-tuning use, dataset or model status, processors, retention exceptions, and any available unlearning or suppression process. Ask for a yes-or-no answer or a description of what cannot be determined.
The provider asks for more identity evidence
Ask what exact document or verification step is required and why. Submit it through the official privacy channel, redact unrelated information where permitted, and retain proof of what you sent.
You receive an incomplete refusal
Request the legal or policy basis for each retained category, the expected retention period, and any appeal or regulator option. A refusal to erase one category does not necessarily answer whether other categories, processors, or outputs can be removed.
Bottom line
Delete the griefbot or account using the provider’s current controls, then make a separate, written privacy request. Name the person and every relevant data type, ask which processors received it, and demand a specific answer about training or fine-tuning. Treat account deletion as a provider-specific account action—not proof that every copy, derived artifact, dataset, or model parameter has disappeared.
