The stated visual treatment is light, with the current page marked by added color and an underline. On smaller screens, Colorlib says the menu becomes an off-canvas panel behind a burger icon.
Colorlib presents the pattern as suitable for blogs, portfolios, and personal websites. That is the publisher’s intended-use guidance, not a finding from independent usability testing. The template’s actual behavior, accessibility, and appearance should be checked in its current demo and package before you adopt it.
When a left sidebar makes sense
A sidebar can be a reasonable choice when the site has a set of destinations visitors should be able to find consistently, and when keeping navigation beside the content fits the page layout. Compare it with a top navigation bar by considering:

- Content structure: Are there a few main destinations, or several sections visitors need to distinguish?
- Visibility: Should navigation remain prominent alongside the content, or should the page give more space to the main content?
- Screen size: Does the menu remain easy to open and use when it switches to an off-canvas panel?
- Audience fit: Which pattern is clearest for the people who use this site? Neither a sidebar nor top navigation is universally better.

Those are collection-level publisher claims; confirm that the current V19 download includes what your project needs rather than assuming every detail applies to that specific package.
