Complete an SBC player only when the card solves a specific problem in your squad and the improvement is worth every item you submit. Overall rating is not enough. Name the role you need, test the card’s usable position, attributes, PlayStyles, chemistry and tactical fit, then compare the reward with the players and alternatives you would sacrifice. The challenge’s requirements, reward and expiry are live in-game details, so verify them immediately before submitting.
Start with the job your squad needs done
An SBC player is a good fit when you can describe exactly what they will do in your starting XI, formation and instructions. “Higher rated” is not a role. A central midfielder who improves passing and defensive coverage may be more useful than a higher-rated attacker if your current midfield loses the ball or leaves space in front of the defence.
Write the weakness in one sentence
Before opening the challenge, write a statement such as: “I need a defensive midfielder who can cover the space behind my attacking full-back,” or “I need a left-footed centre-back who can progress the ball from the left side.” If you cannot identify a weakness, the SBC is competing with items you already own rather than fixing your team.

Match the card to a real position and role
Check that the item can occupy the position you actually use and that its available role suits your instructions. A card may have several positions but still be a poor choice for your preferred tactic if its usable roles do not match how you defend, build up or attack. Do not treat a position change as proof that the player fits every formation.

Consider the whole tactic
Assess the player alongside your formation, width, depth, pressing approach and player instructions. A fast full-back may be valuable in a high line but unnecessary in a low-block setup. A playmaker with excellent passing may need runners around them; a target forward may need crossing or direct-passing support. The card should make the intended system more reliable, not merely look impressive on its own.
Read the attributes that control the role
Compare the candidate with your current starter, your best bench alternative and any realistic replacement you could obtain without submitting valuable items. Use role-specific attributes rather than copying the overall rating into your decision.
Defenders
- Centre-backs: examine defensive awareness, interceptions, standing tackle, strength, reactions, composure, acceleration and sprint speed. Height and body type can affect how the player feels in duels, but they do not remove the need to check recovery speed and ball control.
- Full-backs and wing-backs: check acceleration, sprint speed, stamina, defensive awareness, tackling, agility and passing. A card intended to overlap needs enough stamina and ball control to survive repeated transitions.
- Defensive midfielders: inspect interceptions, defensive awareness, tackling, stamina, reactions, composure and short passing. A high defensive rating does not compensate for poor positioning in the role you use.
Midfielders and attackers
- Central midfielders: balance passing range, ball control, dribbling, reactions, stamina and defensive work. Decide whether the player is a holder, carrier, creator or box-to-box option.
- Wingers and wide attackers: focus on acceleration, sprint speed, agility, balance, dribbling, passing and the shooting attributes relevant to your preferred chance creation.
- Strikers: check finishing, attacking positioning, composure, reactions, acceleration, sprint speed and the physical qualities your style requires. A striker who cannot separate from defenders may not benefit from an elite finishing number.
Compare the attributes in the context of the alternatives. A five-point gain in a statistic that your tactic rarely uses may be less valuable than a small gain in stamina, reactions or passing that affects every possession.
Use PlayStyles as a role test, not a chemistry shortcut
EA describes PlayStyles as abilities that make players perform differently. They can affect abilities, team strategy and player roles, so inspect the styles that support the job you wrote down. A defensive style that improves interceptions, a passing style that helps your build-up or a finishing style that suits your chance pattern can matter more than a small overall-rating difference.
PlayStyles do not directly change chemistry. Treat them as performance and role information, then evaluate chemistry separately. Ask whether the styles are useful in the situations you create: pressing, recovery runs, one-touch circulation, crossing, counterattacks or close-control dribbling.
Questions to ask for every important PlayStyle
- Does the style improve an action the player will perform often?
- Does it support the instructions and role you selected?
- Does the card lack a style that your current starter relies on?
- Will the style still matter if the player enters as a substitute or changes position during a match?
Check chemistry and the correct game version
Use the chemistry screen in the version you are playing. Do not copy a chemistry rule from an older guide into a current squad.
FC 26 Chemistry Styles
EA’s FC 26 launch update changed Chemistry Style boosts to a 3/6/9-point model instead of the previous 4/8/12 model. Pace-focused boosts include trade-offs, while other styles place greater emphasis on attributes such as Composure, Reactions and Stamina. Select a style only after checking how its complete boost and trade-off affect the role; do not assume that a familiar style has the same numbers as in an earlier game.

Historical FIFA 23 rules are not a current FC 26 guide
EA’s FIFA 23 chemistry update described a maximum of three chemistry points earned through shared nationality or region, league and club, and removed positional links and overall Squad Chemistry in that version. Those are FIFA 23 mechanics. They are useful only for historical context and must not be presented as the complete chemistry system for FC 26.
Verify the card’s actual chemistry outcome
Place the candidate in the intended squad and inspect the live chemistry display. Check the effect of the manager, nearby links and any position change. A player who looks ideal in isolation may require several other starters to change, turning a personal upgrade into a squad-wide compromise.
Read the SBC before you value the player
Open the live challenge and record its exact requirements, reward and expiry before deciding. EA says SBC requirements can include Squad Rating, Chemistry, Player Quality, Leagues, Nations and Clubs. The mix and thresholds vary by challenge, so a remembered requirement from another SBC is not evidence for this one.

The cost is not just the coins needed to buy missing players. It is also the future value of every item you permanently remove from your club.
Inventory the items you already own
- Open the SBC and note the required rating, chemistry and special conditions.
- Start with eligible items in your Club and SBC Storage, as EA recommends.
- Mark cards that are starters, regular substitutes, useful reserves, league or nation links, objectives players, evolutions or difficult-to-replace high-rated items.
- Separate untradeable duplicates and expendable cards from items you may need for another squad or objective.
Do not assume an untradeable card is free. If it can fill a role in your team or satisfy a future requirement, submitting it has an opportunity cost even when it cannot be sold.
Check the Transfer Market before buying
Use the Transfer Market to price missing requirements and compare the cheapest legal combinations. Test more than one squad combination rather than buying the first players suggested by an app or a filter. Consider whether the purchase is for a single segment or whether the same cards could complete several challenges.

Remember that submissions are final
EA states that submitted items are permanently removed and cannot be restored by EA Advisors. Review every slot before confirming, especially when using a duplicate, a high-rated card, a player with a useful league link or an item stored outside the main club view. If the SBC reward would not improve your team more than the submitted items could, stop before the final confirmation.

Build a direct comparison rather than judging the SBC card in a vacuum. Include the current starter, the best bench option and a realistic market or objective alternative. The comparison axes below are decision tools, not an official EA rating formula.

Use a practical upgrade test
You do not need a synthetic score or a percentage threshold. Make the decision in three passes.
Pass one: role improvement
Describe the specific match problem the candidate should solve: losing aerial duels, failing to track runners, lacking progression from deep, missing chances or running out of stamina. Identify the candidate’s attributes and PlayStyles that address that problem. If you cannot connect the card to a repeatable situation, the upgrade is probably cosmetic.
Pass two: squad improvement
Place the card in the actual XI and check chemistry, position, links and instructions. Look for secondary effects: a new player may allow another starter to move into their preferred position, or may force a key link out of the squad. Evaluate the complete XI, not just the new card’s face stats.
Pass three: resource improvement
List what you submit, what you buy and what you receive. Compare that package with retaining the items, buying an alternative or waiting for another challenge. If the card is only a marginal upgrade and consumes scarce links or high-rated fodder, the resource result is negative even if the player is objectively strong.
Follow this decision sequence before confirming
- Name the role: write the position, instructions and tactical problem the player must solve.
- Check usable positions: confirm the item can play that role in your formation without relying on an assumption about alternate positions.
- Inspect relevant attributes: compare the numbers that affect the job with your starter and alternatives.
- Read PlayStyles: identify styles that improve actions the player will perform repeatedly.
- Test chemistry: place the card in the squad and inspect the live result under the correct game version.
- Apply the intended Chemistry Style: include FC 26’s 3/6/9-point model and any trade-off shown by the style.
- Record the SBC: note every requirement, reward, expiry and repeatability condition currently displayed.
- Build the cheapest sensible submission: use Club and SBC Storage first, then compare Transfer Market costs.
- Protect scarce items: remove starters, key links, evolution candidates and hard-to-replace cards from the draft unless the benefit clearly justifies their loss.
- Compare alternatives: check the current starter, bench option and realistic replacement using the same role, chemistry and tactical criteria.
- Review every slot: verify names, ratings, chemistry and duplicate choices on the final confirmation screen.
- Choose conditionally: complete the SBC if the card fills a needed role and the improvement is worth the submitted items; skip or wait if the upgrade is marginal or blocks a better use of your club.
Handle different SBC types differently
Player SBCs
For a named player, the reward is easy to identify but the cost may be spread across several squads. Evaluate the complete set of segments together. A cheap first segment can still be poor value if later segments consume the cards you need for another plan.

Upgrade SBCs
An upgrade SBC gives uncertain output, so compare the expected type of reward shown in the challenge with the known value of the items you submit. Do not assume that a chance at a high-rated player solves a specific positional weakness. If you need a defensive midfielder, a random pack may leave the original problem untouched.
Puzzle SBCs
Puzzle challenges can use league, nation, club, quality, rating and chemistry restrictions in unusual combinations. Treat the displayed conditions as a logic problem and test multiple combinations before buying. A player who is cheap today may be a useful link for another segment, so avoid spending all eligible cards on the first solution.

For repeatable challenges, decide how many completions your club can support before beginning. Count duplicate storage, untradeable stock, market purchases and the time available before expiry. The first completion may be affordable while the tenth is not; evaluate the total plan rather than assuming each repeat has the same cost.
Multi-challenge groups
Read the group reward and each segment reward. Decide whether you would still submit the final squad if the group reward were unavailable, and do not overlook a segment that consumes a player needed elsewhere. Completion order can matter when one segment uses the same league or nation pool as another.

Use FC 26’s live menus and official in-game values for a current FC 26 decision. Its launch update introduced the 3/6/9-point Chemistry Style boost model, pace-boost trade-offs and stronger emphasis on attributes such as Composure, Reactions and Stamina in non-pace styles.
EA’s FC 27 FUT Deep Dive announced an 18 September 2026 launch date and described planned streamlined SBCs for most Player and Upgrade SBCs. Traditional puzzle SBCs were planned to remain, while the streamlined format was described as letting players select eligible items toward a score, submit duplicates, make partial progress and use more flexible requirements. The announcement also described all-year Role++ familiarity for special items in primary and secondary positions.

Those FC 27 details were published as a pre-launch design announcement. If you are playing the released FC 27 service, verify the live SBC interface, chemistry rules and Role++ behavior in the game before applying them. Do not combine an announced FC 27 mechanic with FC 26 chemistry assumptions or FIFA 23 rules.

Common mistakes and how to recover
Choosing by overall rating
Symptom: the card has a higher rating but does not improve your results in its role. Fix: return to the one-sentence job description and compare role attributes, PlayStyles and stamina with the player it would replace.
Ignoring chemistry after the swap
Symptom: the new player looks better, but another starter loses chemistry or must move position. Fix: test the entire XI and compare the net squad change, not the isolated item.
Using outdated chemistry information
Symptom: a guide cites FIFA 23 links or an old Chemistry Style boost. Fix: use the current game’s chemistry display and version-specific EA guidance.

Submitting the first acceptable squad
Symptom: the challenge is completed with starters, valuable links or expensive market purchases that were not necessary. Fix: rebuild the segment with Club and SBC Storage items first, test multiple combinations and price missing cards before confirming.
Forgetting expiry or repeatability
Symptom: you buy items for a challenge that expires before you can finish, or you spend the club’s entire stock on one repeatable run. Fix: record the live expiry and calculate the full number of completions you realistically intend.
Expecting EA to restore a mistake
Symptom: a submitted player was needed elsewhere. Fix: prevent the error with a final slot-by-slot review; submitted items are permanently removed and EA Advisors cannot restore them.
A worked decision example
Suppose your 4-2-3-1 concedes counters because one defensive midfielder cannot cover the full-back. An SBC midfielder has a lower overall rating than your current starter but better defensive awareness, stamina, reactions and a PlayStyle that supports interceptions. First, confirm that the card can occupy your defensive-midfield role and remains on acceptable chemistry with your existing links. Next, check whether the Chemistry Style you intend to use still produces the needed balance under FC 26’s boost model. Finally, price every segment and mark the high-rated players you would submit.
If the card lets you keep your shape, improves a recurring defensive problem and costs expendable items, completing it is rational even without a rating increase. If it requires sacrificing a starting centre-back, breaks chemistry for two other players and offers only a small improvement in the same defensive situations, keep the items and wait. The conclusion comes from role, squad and resource effects together.
