On a Nothing phone, lock-screen customization is handled from the lock-screen personalization controls. Wake the phone, open the customization action exposed by your installed Nothing OS build, choose a clock face, then add or rearrange the widgets that your model offers. The exact clock catalog, widget space and menu labels depend on the phone model and OS version.

Nothing OS 3.0 expanded the available lock-screen space and upgraded its clock faces. Nothing OS 4.0 refreshed the clock fonts and style and added two more clock faces. Those changes are not universal to every device at the same time, so identify your model and build before comparing your screen with another Nothing phone.

Check your phone and Nothing OS version first

Two Nothing phones can show different clocks or widget controls even when their owners follow the same instructions. Availability follows the installed build and the device for which that build was released.

What changed in Nothing OS 3.0

Nothing’s Nothing OS 3.0 release notes for the Phone (2) Open Beta 1 in 2024 describe “upgraded clock faces” and “expanded widget space, allowing you to place more widgets on your lock screen.” Treat those notes as evidence that the feature set grew in that release, not as a promise that every Nothing phone has an identical layout or widget catalog.

What changed in Nothing OS 4.0

The Nothing OS 4.0 general-release announcement in 2025 says: “New Lock Screen Clocks: We have refreshed the clock fonts and style, and introduced two new clock faces.” Rollout began with Phone (3) and then expanded to other Nothing and CMF phones. A face shown in an OS 4.0 demonstration may therefore be absent from a phone still running an earlier build, or from a model that has not received the same release.

Release information What the published notes establish What you should not assume
Nothing OS 3.0, 2024 notes Upgraded clock faces and more lock-screen widget space were introduced in the documented beta. That every model received the beta features, or that all models expose the same widget dimensions.
Nothing OS 4.0, 2025 announcement Clock fonts and style were refreshed and two new faces were introduced; rollout started with Phone (3) before expanding. That every Nothing or CMF phone has the new faces immediately, or that the rollout schedule is identical by region.

Find the installed build

Check the phone’s software-information page before troubleshooting a missing option. Nothing’s support index points to Settings > About phone > Software info; some builds expose an update check through Settings > System > System update. Menu wording can differ by release, so use the closest equivalent shown on your phone.

  • Write down the exact phone model and Nothing OS version.
  • Note whether the phone is on a stable release or a beta, if the software-information page identifies it.
  • Compare another phone only after confirming that both devices run a comparable build.

Open the lock-screen customization surface

Nothing’s support index identifies a dedicated topic for adding lock-screen widgets, but the publicly indexed excerpt does not provide one universal tap sequence. The reliable starting point is the lock screen itself; the final control name varies by build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press the power button or otherwise wake the display so the lock screen is visible.
  2. If the customization control is unavailable while the phone is locked, unlock when prompted. Some builds allow editing directly from the lock screen; others require authentication first.
  3. Look for the on-screen customization or personalization action. Depending on the build, it may be presented as an edit control, a long-press action or a similarly labeled lock-screen option.
  4. Open the clock preview or clock-style control to edit the time display. The same editing surface normally contains the widget area.

If none of these controls appears, do not infer that the phone lacks lock-screen customization. First verify the installed version, install any available system update, then wake the lock screen again and look for the control exposed by that build.

Change the lock-screen clock

Choose a face

  1. From the lock-screen editor, tap the clock preview or the control labelled for clock style.
  2. Swipe through the faces displayed on your phone. Only the faces delivered for that model and build are selectable.
  3. Inspect the preview against your current wallpaper and the information you want to see at a glance.
  4. Use the save, apply or confirmation control shown by your build, then return to the lock screen to verify the result.

A clock face is more than a typeface choice: its proportions determine how much vertical room remains for widgets and how quickly the time can be read. Nothing’s release notes establish that multiple faces exist, but they do not rank one as the most legible or battery-efficient. Make that decision on your own phone, with your own wallpaper and lighting.

Compare faces using practical criteria

Criterion How to evaluate it Why it matters
At-a-glance readability View the lock screen at arm’s length and in both bright and dim surroundings. A decorative face can take longer to parse than a simpler one.
Information density Check whether the time remains clear after you add the widgets you actually use. A large or elaborate clock can compete with secondary information.
Vertical space Observe how much room the clock leaves for the widget area. The available space is finite, even though Nothing OS 3.0 expanded it.
Always-On Display glance View the selected style on your phone’s Always-On Display, if enabled, and check contrast and legibility. A face that looks good on a bright preview may be harder to read in the dimmed view.
Wallpaper match Try the face with the wallpaper you actually use, not only the editor’s sample. High-contrast backgrounds can obscure thin strokes or similarly colored elements.

If a tutorial or screenshot shows a face that is not in your picker, check the OS version and model before attempting a reset. A missing face is usually an availability difference, not a setting you can unlock manually.

Add and arrange lock-screen widgets

Add a widget

  1. Open the lock-screen customization surface and enter the widget area.
  2. Choose the add control presented by your build.
  3. Review the widget choices offered on that device. The catalog is model- and release-dependent; do not expect another Nothing phone’s list to match yours.
  4. Select a widget and place it in an available slot or area.
  5. Apply the layout, return to the lock screen and check that the information is visible without covering the clock.

Rearrange or remove widgets

Within the same editor, select a placed widget to move it, replace it or remove it. The available positions and the number that fit depend on the clock style and the device’s layout. Nothing OS 3.0’s expanded space allows more room than earlier arrangements, but the release notes do not establish a universal widget count.

  • Put the item you consult most often closest to the natural point where you look at the screen.
  • Remove duplicates: if the clock already supplies the time, use the freed space for information that is not otherwise visible.
  • After changing the clock face, recheck the widget arrangement; a different face can change the remaining space.
  • Use the editor’s own remove or replace action rather than deleting a related app, which can affect other parts of the phone.

Build a layout for your priority

For a minimal lock screen, choose the most legible face and add only the widget you need before unlocking. For an information-heavy layout, start with a face that leaves the most usable space, then add widgets one at a time and remove any that force the time into a crowded area. These are layout decisions, not claims that one Nothing design is objectively better.

Control notification privacy separately

Clock and widget editing does not determine what notification text appears on the lock screen. Nothing documents notification previews as a separate privacy setting.

Personalize notification previews

  1. Open Settings > Lock Screen and AOD > Privacy.
  2. Adjust the notification-preview option offered there.
  3. Lock the phone and send or receive a suitable test notification to confirm what is visible while the device is locked.

Nothing’s support wording is: “Go to Settings> Lock Screen and AOD> Privacy, and personalise your notification preview.” Spacing around the greater-than signs can differ in the interface, but the settings hierarchy is the documented route.

Hide all lock-screen notifications

  1. Open Settings > Notifications > Notifications on Lock Screen.
  2. Select Don’t show any notifications.
  3. Lock the phone and verify that alerts no longer appear on the lock screen.

This setting suppresses lock-screen notifications; it does not remove the clock or widgets. If you later want alerts back, return to the same menu and choose the preview behavior you prefer.

When a clock face or widget is missing

Symptom Likely explanation Action
A tutorial shows faces you cannot select. The tutorial may use a different Nothing OS release, model or rollout stage. Check Settings > About phone > Software info, identify your build, and compare only with guidance for that build.
The editor has a clock picker but no widget area. The phone or build may not expose the same widget implementation, or the editor may require a different entry point. Exit and reopen the lock-screen personalization control after updating. If the area remains absent, treat it as a model/build limitation rather than an error.
A widget was available before changing the clock. The new face may use more of the available layout. Reopen the widget editor, remove lower-priority items or choose a face that leaves more room.
The customization action does not appear. The phone may still be locked, the display may be showing an alternate screen, or the build may use a different control. Wake the phone fully, unlock if prompted, then look for the build’s personalization or edit action.
The phone reports no update. Rollout timing can differ by model and region. Use the software-information and system-update pages to confirm the installed release; do not assume an announcement means your device is eligible immediately.
The clock is hard to read after customization. Typeface, wallpaper contrast or widget density is reducing legibility. Try another available face, a simpler wallpaper or fewer widgets, then check the result on the dimmed display as well as the normal lock screen.

Use a safe update-and-recheck routine

Updating is the appropriate next step when the documented feature is missing but your phone appears eligible. It is not a way to force a face onto an unsupported model.

  1. Record your current model and Nothing OS version from the software-information page.
  2. Open the system-update screen and install an offered update according to the phone’s on-screen instructions.
  3. After the phone restarts, return to the lock screen and open its customization surface again.
  4. Check the clock picker and widget area before changing other settings, so you can tell whether the update changed availability.
  5. If the options are unchanged, keep the model and build details when contacting Nothing support; those details are more useful than a screenshot of a different phone.

Keep the result readable and private

  • Test the selected clock with the wallpaper, case and screen brightness you normally use.
  • Check the lock screen from a quick glance rather than only while standing close to the display.
  • Review notification previews whenever you change the lock-screen layout, because a spacious widget arrangement can make private text more noticeable.
  • When comparing phones, record each model and OS version; a face or widget shown on one device is not evidence that another device should have it.

The dependable method is version-aware: open the editor supplied by your build, select only from the faces and widgets it presents, and use Nothing’s separate privacy menus for notification content. Nothing OS 3.0 and 4.0 expanded and refreshed the design in different ways, but model and rollout differences determine what you can actually choose.
