On the Galaxy S22 Ultra, open Settings > Advanced features > S Pen. Use Air command to change the floating menu and its shortcuts; use Air actions to reassign supported S Pen button presses and gestures. These are separate controls, and Air actions work only when the pen is charged, connected, and being used with a supported app or feature.
Change the Air command menu and shortcuts
Air command is the floating menu of quick links shown when you use the S Pen. Its shortcuts determine which apps or features appear there; changing them does not change what the S Pen button or gestures do.
- Open Settings > Advanced features > S Pen.
- Tap Air command.
- Adjust the menu style if desired, then open Shortcuts to add or remove the apps and features shown in the menu.
If pressing the S Pen button does not open Air command, check whether Open Air command with Pen button is enabled. You can also open the panel from its on-screen Air command icon. Samsung’s S Pen settings guidance describes these controls; exact labels can vary with software version.

Reassign S Pen button presses and app actions
Air actions are remote controls sent by the connected S Pen. Their available commands depend on the app, so an action you can assign in one app may not be offered in another.

- From Settings > Advanced features > S Pen, tap Air actions.
- Under App actions, choose a supported app.
- Tap an available input, such as Single press or Double press, then select a different command from the options shown.
To choose which app opens when you hold down the S Pen button, change Hold down Pen button to in Air actions settings. Menu names and available commands can differ by app and software version. Samsung explains that Air actions control apps remotely with the connected pen in its Galaxy S22 Ultra guide.
Use Anywhere actions
The S22 Ultra also supports Anywhere actions, which provide gestures for navigation and screen tools beyond a single compatible app. The gestures use the S Pen button. To inspect or change the available commands, open Air actions in S Pen settings and review the Anywhere actions controls. The commands shown on your phone are the available choices for its current software. See Samsung’s Air actions help for broader guidance; options may vary by model and software version.

Fix Air actions that do not respond
Remote actions require a charged S Pen with an active connection. Samsung’s S22 Ultra-specific guidance, dated 24 May 2022, says distance, obstacles, or external interference can disconnect the pen. It also specifies keeping the pen at least 10 cm from the screen for gesture use.

- Check menu launch behavior: If the Air command panel is the problem rather than a remote action, check Open Air command with Pen button or use the on-screen Air command icon.
- Reset Air actions: If the pen is connected but its remote controls still do not work as expected, use Reset S Pen in Air actions settings.
If a replacement is needed, check that the exact S Pen is compatible with the Galaxy S22 Ultra and supports Bluetooth Air actions; a pen that supports writing alone will not provide remote controls. Samsung says replacement S Pens are available, but compatibility should be confirmed for the specific replacement.
