Godlike.Host offers hosted Assetto Corsa servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
A custom race on a stock Assetto Corsa dedicated server is configured in two files: cfg/server_cfg.ini defines the sessions and race rules, while cfg/entry_list.ini defines the available grid slots. Set the race distance with LAPS or TIME, control when drivers may join with IS_OPEN, and add one CAR_N entry for every grid position you want to offer.
What defines a custom race
Assetto Corsa separates race-session rules from the grid roster. This makes it possible to change the race length without rebuilding the grid, or to reserve a fixed grid while changing practice and qualifying settings.

server_cfg.ini: sessions and rules
The file cfg/server_cfg.ini contains bracketed sections. The normal session blocks are [PRACTICE], [QUALIFY] and [RACE]. A [BOOK] section applies only when the server is using booking mode. Each block contains settings for that phase of the event.
entry_list.ini: grid slots
The file cfg/entry_list.ini contains one CAR_N block per grid slot. Each entry normally specifies a car MODEL, a SKIN, and optionally a DRIVER_GUID. The number of entries is the maximum number of drivers that can occupy the grid, regardless of how many cars are listed elsewhere.

Prepare the server before editing
- Find the dedicated server installation and open its
cfgdirectory. - Make a copy of both configuration files before changing them. Keep the original names and restore the copies if the server fails to start.
- Use a plain-text editor. Preserve the bracketed section names, equals signs and one-setting-per-line format.
- Confirm the exact car model and skin folder names installed on the server. A name that exists only on a client will not create a usable server slot.
- Open the configuration template shipped with the installed server build and compare its key names with any example you use. The long-standing Kunos FAQ documents the core keys, but later builds and community templates can contain additional or changed options.
There is no established universal hot-reload rule for these files. Use the reload, stop and start procedure documented by your server manager. If no reload command is documented, apply edits between sessions and launch the server again rather than assuming a live session has read the new values.
Configure the sessions in server_cfg.ini
1. Set the race distance
Inside [RACE], choose either a lap race or a timed race:
LAPSsets the number of laps.TIMEsets the duration in minutes, but it is used only whenLAPS=0.
LAPS takes priority. Therefore, leaving a non-zero lap value in the file while adding a TIME value will still produce a lap race. To run a 30-minute race, explicitly set LAPS=0 and TIME=30.

TIME=30Keep both values explicit in a shared template. That prevents an old lap count from silently overriding a later timed-race change.
2. Set the countdown before the start
WAIT_TIME in the race block is the number of seconds before the race starts. Increase it when drivers need more time to load, choose a setup or form on the grid; reduce it for a quick server rotation.

TIME=0
WAIT_TIME=60The value is a countdown, not the race duration. A longer countdown does not add laps or minutes to the event.

3. Decide when drivers may join
IS_OPEN controls joining during a session. It has three documented values:

Set IS_OPEN separately in [PRACTICE], [QUALIFY] and [RACE] if you want different policies. For example, a league may allow open practice, restrict qualifying after the final preparation period, and close the race grid before the start.
4. Configure practice
Practice uses the [PRACTICE] section. Its TIME value is measured in minutes. Use the same IS_OPEN values described above to decide whether drivers can enter during practice.

IS_OPEN=1This creates a 20-minute practice session with free joining. Check the installed template for any additional practice keys instead of copying options from an unrelated server version.
5. Configure qualifying
Qualifying also uses a minute-based TIME value and its own IS_OPEN setting.

QUALIFY_MAX_WAIT_PERC=120The documented example sets QUALIFY_MAX_WAIT_PERC to 120. It expresses the qualifying cutoff as 120 percent of the fastest lap. Retain that key only if it appears in the configuration format supported by your installed build; option names can differ between server versions.
6. Control the end-of-session screens
Some server templates expose RESULT_SCREEN_TIME and RACE_OVER_TIME. They govern, respectively, how long the results screen is shown and the finish window used by a timed race. Their exact accepted units and availability should be taken from the template or FAQ for the installed build. Do not paste these keys into a server that does not recognize them.

Allow only the cars you intend to run
The server configuration has a CARS setting containing permitted car model IDs separated by semicolons. The setting belongs in the server-wide section used by your installed template; do not move it into a session block unless that template places it there.
CARS=ks_ferrari_488;ks_porsche_911_gt3_rsThe names above are illustrative model IDs. Replace them with the exact IDs installed on your server and confirm that every model referenced by the entry list is included in this permitted-car list. The semicolon format is reported by host configuration guides, so verify the syntax against the build you are running.
Do not confuse a permitted-car list with a grid. CARS says which models may be used; entry_list.ini determines how many slots exist and which model and skin each slot presents.
Build the grid in entry_list.ini
One block per slot
Add a numbered CAR_N section for every position. The reported format is:

SKIN=00_2016Use the exact model and skin directory names from the server’s content installation. The numbering convention and fields above are reported by third-party server guides rather than fully verified in the Kunos FAQ, so compare the block format with the entry-list template supplied with your build.
Limit the field by limiting entries
If the file contains 12 CAR_N entries, the grid has 12 available slots. A server may advertise more capacity elsewhere, but it cannot place a thirteenth driver when no thirteenth entry exists. Conversely, adding unused entries increases the possible grid even if you expected a smaller race.
Reserve a slot for a specific driver
Add DRIVER_GUID to a car block when that slot is intended for one known driver:

DRIVER_GUID=76561198000000000The GUID must match the driver’s identifier exactly. Leave the field out for an open slot. Because fixed-driver behavior can depend on the build’s entry-list implementation, test one reserved slot before using it for a full league grid.
A complete illustrative configuration
The following combines the core settings for a short event. It is an example, not a universal drop-in file: retain the sections and defaults from your installed template and change only the values you need.

SKIN=00_2016In this example, practice is open, qualifying is 15 minutes, the race is 10 laps, drivers may join until 20 seconds before the green light, and only three grid slots are defined. The permitted CARS list must include both model IDs.
Choose laps or time deliberately

When converting an existing race, change both values. Setting only TIME does not convert a race that still has a non-zero LAPS value.
Design joining rules for each phase
Joining policy affects the session in which it is set. A race can be closed while practice remains open, and qualifying can use a different cutoff. A practical sequence is:
- Set
[PRACTICE]toIS_OPEN=1when drivers should be able to arrive throughout practice. - Choose
IS_OPEN=1or2for qualifying according to whether late arrivals should be accepted. - Set
[RACE]to0for a locked start,1for free joining, or2for joining until 20 seconds before the green light. - Use
WAIT_TIMEto give the final drivers enough time to load before the start countdown expires.
IS_OPEN=2 is not a general “join whenever you want” mode. Its documented cutoff is 20 seconds before the green light, so drivers who connect later than that point must wait for another session.

Apply and validate the change
- Save a backup of both configuration files.
- Validate each section header, key spelling and numeric value against the installed template.
- Check that every grid model appears in the permitted
CARSlist and that every skin exists on the server. - Count the
CAR_Nblocks and compare that number with the field size you intend to advertise. - Use the server manager’s documented reload or restart workflow. Do not assume a live session has re-read the files.
- Join with a test client and observe practice, qualifying and race separately. Confirm the displayed race length, the joining cutoff and the number of selectable grid slots.
- After a successful test, retain the working files as a known-good baseline before making another change.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
The race runs for the wrong length
Open [RACE] and inspect both values. A non-zero LAPS overrides TIME. Set LAPS=0 for a timed race, or remove ambiguity by setting TIME=0 for a lap race.
Drivers can join when they should not
Check IS_OPEN in the specific session where the problem occurs. A permissive practice value does not explain race-session joining; inspect [RACE] separately. Remember that value 2 intentionally permits joining until 20 seconds before the green light.
The grid is smaller than expected
Count the entries in entry_list.ini. The number of CAR_N blocks caps the driver count. Also check that the server actually loaded the edited file using the correct reload or restart procedure.
A car or skin is unavailable
Compare the exact spelling and capitalization of MODEL and SKIN with the server’s installed content. Then confirm the model is included in CARS. A model listed in the entry file but omitted from CARS is not a reliable way to make it selectable.
A reserved driver does not receive the intended slot
Verify the DRIVER_GUID value character by character and confirm that the slot uses the build’s supported entry-list syntax. Test with one reserved entry and one open entry before assigning an entire league grid.
Qualifying ends unexpectedly
Check the qualifying TIME and the spelling and support status of QUALIFY_MAX_WAIT_PERC. The documented 120 value means 120 percent of the fastest lap; it is not 120 minutes.

Compare the key with the configuration format of the installed server build. The Kunos FAQ is a long-standing reference, while community configurations may include additional options such as FLAG_RULES or SEND_BUFFER_SIZE that are not part of the FAQ example. An unknown key may simply be ignored or rejected, depending on the build.
Version and unsupported-option cautions
Core session names, the locations of the two files, and the race keys LAPS, TIME, WAIT_TIME and IS_OPEN are documented by Kunos. However, key names can change between server builds, and some options are shown only under update sections of older documentation. Always treat the installed template as authoritative.
Do not add a supposed locked-grid key merely because it appears in a league guide. LOCKED_ENTRY_LIST=1 has been mentioned by third-party guides but is not verified here. Reversed-grid configuration is likewise unresolved: published guides disagree about the key names, and one cited key is reported elsewhere as nonexistent. No reversed-grid key is included in this setup because an incorrect option can be silently ignored.
Preset or graphical tools may exist in some server workflows, but their support and exact behavior are not established by the documented configuration reference. The file-based method remains the dependable baseline: define sessions in server_cfg.ini, define slots in entry_list.ini, and verify the result on the server build you actually run.
