Yes—you can turn your own pet-video library into a continuous YouTube live channel. Build a rights-cleared playlist, create a YouTube Live stream, connect an encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and private key, and play the files in sequence. A computer running a local encoder must stay powered and connected; a hosted broadcaster can continue after you upload the videos and configure the stream.
The difficult parts are not the loop button. They are clearing every sound and image in the files, making the programming feel intentionally curated rather than repetitive, testing the handoff between clips, and planning what happens when the encoder, internet connection or YouTube session fails.
What a 24/7 pet-TV channel actually is
A pet-TV channel is a linear live broadcast assembled from prerecorded material. Viewers receive one ongoing YouTube Live feed, while your encoder plays a playlist of finished clips one after another and starts again when it reaches the end. The video is not live from a camera, even though the YouTube page is presented as a live stream.

- Local encoding: OBS Studio or another encoder reads files on a computer and sends the feed to YouTube. That computer, its storage and its internet connection have to remain available for the whole broadcast.
- Hosted cloud broadcasting: you upload the programme to a provider, add YouTube’s stream key, and let the provider play and recover the stream from its infrastructure. Your home computer can be off after setup.
Continuous availability alone does not guarantee discovery, viewers, monetization or uninterrupted service. Treat the channel as a small television operation: clear the rights, design the schedule, test it privately, monitor it, and keep a recovery plan.

1. Clear every video, sound and graphic before uploading
“I filmed the pet” is not the same as “I own every element in this broadcast.” Make an inventory for each file before it enters the 24/7 playlist.
- File name and a short description of the scene.
- Who recorded it and who owns the underlying footage.
- Permission or licence covering YouTube live transmission, the countries where viewers may watch, and the length of use.
- Original music, background radio or television audio, stock footage, artwork, logos and clips recorded in public places.
- Required attribution and a contact for any Content ID claim or allowlist request.
- Duration, aspect ratio, resolution and audio format.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If matched material remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A licence may solve your contractual rights but still require the rights holder to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Keep written permissions and licence files with the programme records.
Use the copyright safety checklist as a second pass. It cannot grant rights, but it helps you check music, public-location audio and other commonly missed elements.
2. Turn a folder of clips into pet-TV programming
Standardize the source files
Choose one production format for the channel. Matching aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate, loudness and naming makes the encoder’s playlist predictable and makes transitions less jarring. If clips have different shapes, decide whether to crop, add a designed background, or accept letterboxing; do not let the encoder make an unexpected choice at every handoff.
Use filenames that sort in the intended order, such as a series name followed by a sequence number and a short scene label. Keep a master copy outside the encoder’s working folder so a playlist edit cannot destroy your only source.
Add visible curation
A short opening slate, pet names, location cards, chapter titles and original interstitials tell viewers that this is a programme rather than an unattended file loop. Keep cards long enough to read and keep the audio level consistent with the clips. Build several transitions so the channel has a recognisable rhythm without pretending that the footage is live.

Avoid a thin, repetitive loop
YouTube’s monetization review looks for original, authentic work and can reject mass-produced, generic, repetitive or reused content. A tiny set of clips repeating unchanged for days is therefore a poor editorial and monetization strategy, even when you own the recordings. Expand the library, vary the order, add meaningful original segments and describe what viewers are watching.
3. Create and configure the YouTube Live stream
- Enable live streaming and check channel status. Verify the channel as required by YouTube and confirm that it has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Open Live Control Room. Create a stream or scheduled event for the pet-TV channel and select the correct channel if your account manages more than one.
- Copy the stream URL and private stream key. The URL tells the encoder where to send the feed; the key authenticates that feed. Store the key in a password manager or another restricted location and never paste it into public notes, screenshots or chat.
- Set metadata deliberately. Use an accurate title and description, choose the correct visibility, set the time zone if scheduling, and add a thumbnail that represents the actual pet programming. Do not label a prerecorded loop as a live camera feed.
- Know the limits. YouTube’s current guidance allows a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. If you operate several pet channels, plan keys and concurrent sessions around those limits.
4. Build the local, do-it-yourself encoder
Hardware and network requirements
You need a computer that can decode the playlist, encode the chosen output continuously, store the source files and remain cool for long periods. A small dedicated computer can work, but the workflow evidence does not establish a particular model or guaranteed 4K capability. Keep the machine on reliable power, prevent sleep or automatic shutdown, and leave enough free disk space for logs, temporary files and replacements.
The upstream connection must remain stable for the selected output. A local recording can preserve your files, but it cannot keep YouTube Live running when the encoder or network fails. If your connection has data caps, include the continuous upload in your plan.
Configure OBS Studio or another encoder
- Install the current release of your chosen encoder and open a dedicated scene or profile for the pet channel.
- Add a media playlist source that points to the cleared clips. Enable sequential playback and looping. Configure the source so it returns to the first file without an unintended black frame or silent gap.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate to a format your source library and computer can sustain continuously. Do not upscale low-resolution footage merely to display a larger number; match the programme to the quality you actually have.
- Choose a constant, stable video bitrate appropriate to that resolution and your upload capacity, using YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the exact format you select. Leave headroom for normal network variation instead of saturating the connection.
- Use the keyframe interval and codec settings required by YouTube’s current live-ingest guidance for your chosen format. A setting that works for one resolution or encoder preset is not automatically correct for another.
- Set audio sample rate, channel layout and bitrate consistently across the profile. Check that quiet pet ambience is audible but that music or barking does not clip.
- In the encoder’s streaming settings, paste YouTube’s stream URL and the private stream key. Never include the key in a scene name, public log or tutorial screenshot.
- Save the profile and export a copy of the configuration. A written record of the scene, playlist path and ingest settings shortens recovery time after a disk replacement.
Run a private handoff test
- Start the encoder with the YouTube stream set to private or unlisted.
- Watch the first clip, the transition to the second clip and the return from the final clip to the first. Check for frozen frames, a flash of black, silence, duplicated audio or a wrong aspect ratio.
- Open YouTube’s stream-health indicators and confirm that the incoming picture and audio remain stable for a meaningful test period.
- Stop and restart the encoder once. Confirm that the session reconnects as expected and that the playlist resumes or restarts according to your documented procedure.
- Have another person follow the stop/restart instructions. A recovery plan that only its author understands is not an operating plan.
5. Publish and operate the channel
Start in a controlled window
Schedule the first public run when someone can watch the stream-health panel and the public playback. Confirm the correct channel, title, thumbnail, description and chat settings immediately before going live. Keep the private test recording and the source files available until the first public session has survived several playlist handoffs.
Monitor the things that can fail
- Stream health: dropped frames, ingest warnings and a disconnected session require action even when the local preview looks normal.
- Encoder uptime: watch for application crashes, playlist errors and a computer that has entered sleep or installed an unexpected restart.
- Internet stability: packet loss or upload congestion can interrupt the feed. A local recording will not substitute for a live connection.
- Storage: keep source files, logs and replacement clips on a disk with free space. A full disk can stop a playlist or prevent recovery files from being written.
- Temperature and power: continuous decoding and encoding can expose cooling or power problems that a short test never reveals.
Write down who may stop the stream, where the key is stored, how to restart the encoder and how to contact the person responsible for rights. Keep a local copy of the programme, but do not mistake that backup for a second live path.

6. Plan archives separately from continuous broadcasting
A 24/7 broadcast is not automatically a 24/7 replay archive. StreamNeo’s 2026 guidance, which summarizes YouTube archive behavior, says streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as replays. If replay access matters, use shorter scheduled sessions, preserve your own programme files and verify YouTube’s current archive guidance before launch. Decide whether the public channel needs one continuous event or a sequence of sessions with clear titles and dates.

7. Monetization: what the channel can and cannot assume
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Reviewers look for original, authentic work and may reject mass-produced, generic, repetitive or reused content. Permission from another creator can resolve a copyright question without resolving the reused-content question. Your own pet footage, meaningful editing, original interstitials and a clearly curated schedule give reviewers more evidence of authorship than an unaltered handful of clips on repeat.
Eligible monetized channels may enable live monetization, but live ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Do not calculate revenue from the fact that the stream is always on. No reliable audience-growth statistic or guaranteed monetization rate is established for this format; useful programming, policy compliance and viewer response determine the outcome.

The stream never appears as live
Check that the encoder is using the intended YouTube stream URL and the current private key, that the correct channel is selected, and that the Live Control Room event is the one you created. Rotate the key only after stopping the old encoder session and updating the stored configuration.
YouTube shows dropped frames or an unstable connection
Reduce the output to a format your sustained upload can carry, stop competing uploads, and test the connection during the time of day when the channel normally runs. If the encoder computer is overloaded, lower the processing demand rather than repeatedly reconnecting the same failing profile.
A clip is black, silent or the wrong shape
Play that file outside the encoder, confirm that its codec and audio track are readable, and replace or transcode it into the channel’s standardized format. Then test the exact handoff again. A playlist that works for every file except one will still fail every time it reaches that file.
The playlist stops at the end
Verify that looping is enabled on the media playlist source and that the final file is not configured to stop the source or scene. Test the complete cycle privately; watching only the first few clips cannot reveal an end-of-list failure.

The stream is interrupted by a rights match
Stop using the matched asset until you can document the right to broadcast it. Check background music, television audio, stock elements and public-location recordings, then contact the rights holder about any required Content ID allowlist. Do not assume that deleting a claim notice after the fact will make an interrupted live session continue.

The computer restarts or overheats
Disable sleep and scheduled shutdown, check cooling and power, review operating-system restart settings, and run a longer private test. Keep a written restart procedure and a second person who can execute it.
