You can stream Indian classical music to YouTube with OBS by preparing rights-cleared audio and visuals, creating an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, copying its server URL and stream key into OBS, and testing the preview before going public. A true 24/7 channel also needs a plan for monitoring, restarting sessions, and preserving recordings: YouTube may not capture a stream longer than 12 hours, and copyright matching can interrupt even a licensed broadcast.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with livestreaming enabled. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling it at least 24 hours before your first livestream, so do not leave activation until the day you plan to go live. YouTube for Artists
- A computer running OBS Studio, an upload connection that can sustain your chosen bitrate, and a stable power and network setup.
- Audio and visuals you have permission to stream. Decide whether the program is a live performance, a playlist of recordings, or a looped audiovisual program.
- A monitoring and backup plan if the stream must stay available or the music must be preserved.
YouTube’s encoder workflow is not an India-specific setup. The same general steps apply to creators in India and elsewhere; the rights for a particular composition, performance, recording, or visual must still be checked for the material you use.
Clear the music and visual rights first
Do not assume a traditional or classical composition is automatically free to broadcast. Rights can apply separately to the composition, a particular performance, the sound recording, and any artwork or video shown with it. Keep documentation of permissions for each part of the program, and coordinate with the label or distributor when the recording is protected.

A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have licensed material, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself may not prevent an automated live interruption. Archived streams can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and YouTube for Artists.

Live Content ID matching is a specialist Content Manager feature for eligible partners, not a way to bypass rights for someone else’s music. YouTube says it requires global rights and exclusive ownership of the material included. Content ID eligibility and requirements and live Content ID matching provide the platform details.
Create a YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- Enable livestreaming in advance. Verify the channel and complete YouTube’s live-access setup. For a first stream, YouTube for Artists advises doing this at least 24 hours ahead.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream creation workflow and choose the encoder option. The exact labels can change, so follow the current Live Control Room prompts.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. In YouTube Studio’s stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Enter the details in OBS. Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service if available, and use the account connection or stream-key method offered by your OBS version. If entering a key manually, paste the YouTube stream key in the key field and select the matching server when OBS offers it. If using a custom server option, enter YouTube’s server URL and key exactly as displayed in Studio.
- Set and test the encoder. Configure output, video, and audio settings as described below, then click Start Streaming in OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room preview. Check stream health and listen to the preview before making the event public or sharing its watch link.
- Go public only after the preview is correct. Confirm the intended audio and image are reaching YouTube, then use the Live Control Room controls to start or manage the event as prompted.
YouTube creates the watch page when the encoder begins sending content. For the current workflow, see YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

Choose OBS settings YouTube can receive reliably
Start with YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, then lower the target if your real upload connection cannot sustain it. The listed bitrate is a platform recommendation, not proof that your connection can deliver it continuously. Use a speed test as a starting point and leave headroom for normal fluctuations; the OBS preview and YouTube stream-health messages are the more useful test of the configured stream.
Recommended Free Tools
| Setting | Practical starting point | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | RTMP or RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS for encoder streaming. Use the server details YouTube Studio provides. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds | Set this in OBS’s encoder output settings. YouTube’s guidance recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. |
| H.264 video, 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps recommended by YouTube | Use only if the encoder and upload connection sustain it during a long test. |
| H.264 video, 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps recommended by YouTube | A sensible lower-resolution option when 1080p is unstable; test it on the actual connection. |
The bitrate figures and encoder recommendations above are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance, checked in 2026. They are specific to the stated H.264 resolutions and frame rates; do not apply them as universal values for other codecs or frame rates.

Choose a format for the program, not just the number
For a static album-art or text scene, 30 fps may be adequate; a live concert with camera movement may need more visual detail and a higher sustainable bitrate. The recommended 1080p and 720p examples above are both 30 fps. Choose a resolution and frame rate your encoder can maintain, then test with the actual audio and motion you will stream. A stable lower-quality feed is preferable to repeated buffering or disconnections at a setting the connection cannot sustain.
Test audio and output before the broadcast
- Play representative material through OBS and confirm the correct audio source is active and meters move without clipping.
- Check that music is audible in YouTube’s preview and that the intended scene, artwork, and overlays appear correctly.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health status during the test and listen to the public output if possible.
- Keep an eye on the computer, encoder, and network after launch; an initial successful preview does not guarantee a continuous 24/7 feed.
Plan a 24/7 schedule, not one endless broadcast
“24/7” describes the goal of keeping programming available continuously; it is not a guarantee that one encoder session will stay uninterrupted or that YouTube will save the entire session. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive warning, not evidence that YouTube necessarily ends a stream at 12 hours. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance explains the limit.

For a channel that needs ongoing availability, schedule successive sessions and decide how the next one will start before the current one ends. Assign someone to monitor stream health and confirm that local recording files continue to grow. If keeping a complete copy matters, record locally as a separate backup rather than relying on YouTube’s archive.
Troubleshoot common OBS-to-YouTube problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube preview stays offline | OBS is not sending a feed, or the server URL or stream key is incorrect. | Confirm OBS is streaming, re-copy the current server URL and key from the correct YouTube Studio event, and check OBS’s stream settings. |
| Stream health reports unstable connection or viewers see buffering | The upload connection cannot sustain the selected output bitrate. | Reduce the video bitrate or resolution, test again, and keep the setting that remains stable under real program conditions. |
| Video looks acceptable but audio is missing or distorted | The wrong OBS audio source may be selected, or the audio level may be clipping. | Check OBS audio meters and source selection, then listen to the YouTube preview before going public. |
| A licensed track interrupts the live stream | YouTube’s live matching may flag the recording before the license is recognized by the automated system. | Contact the rights owner or distributor and request that the channel be added to the Content ID allowlist; do not assume a license alone prevents interruption. |
| The live video is unavailable in the archive or is incomplete | The session exceeded 12 hours, or the local recording did not complete. | Use sessions under 12 hours when relying on YouTube’s automatic archive, and maintain a separate local recording when preservation is important. |
For official details on encoder setup and stream-health monitoring, consult YouTube’s encoder instructions and encoder settings guidance.
