The reliable way to counter Jujutsu Shenanigans’ frequently top-ranked fighters is to win neutral before their signature sequence starts. Keep your Q dash for a confirmed escape, block or sidestep visible windups, force whiffs at the edge of your range, and treat domains and awakenings as resource checks rather than invitations to trade.

This guide covers Honored One (Gojo), Vessel (Yuji/Sukuna), Restless Gambler (Hakari), Perfection (Mahito), and Ten Shadows (Megumi). These matchups reflect the community-facing V1.83 move index and character guidance available through October 18, 2026. Tier lists, hitboxes, damage, and awakening behavior can change after a patch, so the plans below avoid unverified frame-perfect claims.

Start with the universal controls

Jujutsu Shenanigans is a Roblox PvP battlegrounds fighter built around M1 strings, four character skills, dash, block, a special or counter, and awakening. You cannot counter a character consistently if you spend the universal tools at the wrong time.

Input Function Counter-use
M1 Basic melee string Use short confirms near the edge of your range; do not continue a string after the opponent has escaped or blocked.
Q Dash Preserve it as your highest-value escape from stun, a domain approach, or a predictable grab. Spending it for casual movement can leave you trapped.
F Block Hold it for readable approaches and windups, then release and punish recovery rather than blocking indefinitely.
R Special or counter Use it for a confirmed punish or to interrupt a committed attack; do not throw it out simply because it is available.
G Awakening Keep it as a comeback resource when possible. Activating early can waste the tool that reverses a losing round.

Servers can hold up to 20 players, so a theoretically favorable duel can be interrupted. Before committing to a long punish, check whether another player is approaching and whether the arena gives you a clean retreat.

A five-axis method for every matchup

Use the same five questions against any character. They turn a memorized matchup into a decision process that still works when a patch changes numbers.

1. Range and space

Identify the distance at which the opponent’s strongest move begins. Stay just outside that distance, make the move miss, and enter during its recovery. Against a close-range specialist, retreating to mid-range is often a better counter than trying to win a point-blank trade.

2. Startup and whiffs

Look for animation that commits the opponent before the hitbox arrives. Block, sidestep, or dash away from a visible startup. Once the attack misses, punish the recovery with your fastest reliable option. Exact frame data is not established for the current build, so use visual timing rather than a claimed frame-perfect punish.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Resource timing

Track domain, awakening, healing, and any character-specific meter. A player with a full resource bar can take a different risk from one who has just spent it. Do not spend your own awakening merely to win a small exchange if it leaves you unable to answer the opponent’s transformation.

4. Mobility and escape

Keep a route open before starting an attack. If Q is on cooldown, avoid corners and narrow spaces where a stun can become a full combo. Dash through a committed approach only when you know where you will land; dashing blindly can move you into a second hitbox.

5. Risk and recovery

Some fighters compensate for low health with pressure, healing, or a comeback transformation. Decide whether your goal is damage, a reset to neutral, or simply survival until the opponent’s temporary state ends. The correct counter is often the option with the lowest downside, not the one with the highest possible damage.

Countering Honored One (Gojo)

Gojo is a versatile, positioning-dependent fighter. His kit covers several ranges through push, pull, teleportation, and an ultimate that can scale as the match continues. The indexed move labels are Lapse Blue, Reversal Red, Rapid Punches, Twofold Kick, and Limitless; use those names to recognize what you are seeing, not as proof of a fixed startup or damage value.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep an escape lane

Do not fight with your back to a wall or destructible object. Push and pull effects become more dangerous when you have nowhere to retreat. Hold a diagonal route around Gojo rather than standing directly in front of him, and avoid walking into the center of a group where a displacement effect can set up a second attacker.

Make teleportation predictable

Gojo wants you to react to the first movement and then be caught by the follow-up. Watch where he disappears and where he can reappear, then block or move only after the re-entry is committed. If you still have Q, use it to leave the landing area instead of dashing toward the character automatically.

Punish commitment, not presence

Gojo’s flexibility makes random approaches hard to read, but every skill still requires a decision about spacing. Bait a push or pull from just outside its effective range, let the attempt miss, and use your shortest punish. Do not chase a teleport through an uncertain angle; reset neutral and make him approach again.

Respect the scaling ultimate

When Gojo’s ultimate or awakening is available, stop taking low-value trades. Break line of sight with the environment, preserve Q, and wait for a clear opening rather than trying to out-damage a state designed to improve over the match. If he spends the resource without securing damage, the value of your patient defense is that you remain healthy for the next neutral exchange.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Countering Vessel (Yuji/Sukuna)

Vessel is an aggressive fighter whose damage is tied to percentages of health. The kit also includes passive healing and a transformation that changes the fight, so a close-range trade can remain favorable for Vessel even when your combo appears to win. The indexed base moves are Cursed Strikes, Crushing Blow, Divergent Fist, and Manji Kick, with Combat Instincts listed as the special.

Use mid-range zoning

Vessel’s stated vulnerability is zoning. Stand at a distance where you can see the approach and still reach the opponent after a whiff. Throw out safe, quick checks rather than slow attacks that let Vessel dash through them. If your character has a projectile or extended hitbox, use it to make the approach costly, then return to spacing instead of automatically starting a long string.

Do not accept health-for-health trades

Percentage-based damage and healing make extended point-blank exchanges unusually risky. After one confirmed hit, ask whether a second attack is safe. If Vessel blocks or misses, disengage and make the opponent rebuild the approach. Your objective is to win several small neutral interactions, not to prove that your close-range combo is stronger.

Save Q for the transformation swing

Keep dash available when Vessel’s transformation or special resource is close to activation. A dash that escapes the first stun can deny the follow-up that turns a minor mistake into a full health reversal. Do not spend Q merely to close distance unless you have already forced the opponent’s approach tool to miss.

Reset after healing

Passive recovery changes the value of a damaged Vessel. If you cannot finish safely, back away and force another neutral exchange rather than feeding the healing window with rushed attacks. Track your own health as carefully as the opponent’s; a nominal lead is not secure if the next trade is percentage-based.

Countering Restless Gambler (Hakari)

Hakari applies straightforward pressure, but his domain behaves like a slot machine and can grant temporary immortality when luck favors him. Because the outcome is not a guaranteed anti-domain interaction for your character, treat the matchup as risk management. The indexed moves are Reserve Balls, Shutter Doors, Rough Energy, Fever Breaker, and Door Guard.

Read the domain transition

When Hakari begins the domain or awakening sequence, stop trying to win a normal trade. Create distance, move toward open ground, and keep Q for the moment his pressure actually connects. The goal is to deny free follow-up damage while the temporary state resolves, not to claim that every domain can be escaped.

Do not feed the jackpot attempt

Hakari benefits when you repeatedly challenge the same approach. Block the first committed entry, then reposition. If he misses, punish once and leave. Repeating a predictable counter gives him the information needed to alter his timing and eventually catch your recovery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Exploit the non-immortal window

When the temporary immortality or favorable sequence ends, that is your damage window. Spend your strongest confirmed option then, not during the period when Hakari can absorb risk. If you are unsure whether the state has ended, use a light check first instead of a slow, all-in attack.

Preserve the comeback tool

Hakari’s luck can make a match swing quickly. Keep your own awakening until you have a safe activation or need to stop a decisive snowball. Activating it at full health for a minor advantage can leave you without an answer when the next domain sequence starts.

Countering Perfection (Mahito)

Mahito is a close-range transfiguration fighter with a punishing domain and comeback potential. His attacks have noticeable windups, and missing the signature hug wastes much of the pressure that makes the character threatening. The indexed moves are Stockpile, Soul Fire, Focus Strike, Body Repel, and Self-Transfiguration.

Do not stand still at hug range

Keep a small lateral movement rather than retreating in a straight line. A stationary target gives Mahito the cleanest route to his grab and transfiguration pressure. Step out of range, block the visible startup, or use a short dash only after the attempt begins.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Punish the hug whiff

The failed hug is your clearest opening. Let Mahito commit, move just beyond the grab, and use a fast punish while he is recovering. Avoid a slow launcher if you are not certain it will connect; the point is to convert the miss into safe damage and return to spacing.

Break the stationary-target pattern

Mahito’s pressure is strongest when you repeatedly block in place. Alternate between guarding, sidestepping, and backing into open space. If your block is forced low on health, use Q to escape the first confirmed stun instead of waiting for the entire string.

Handle the domain as a survival check

When his domain is available, avoid spending your own resources on a marginal combo. Keep enough health and mobility to survive the entry, and do not activate awakening merely because Mahito has activated his. Your best response depends on your character’s kit; no universal guaranteed escape is established for the current build.

Countering Ten Shadows (Megumi)

Ten Shadows uses shikigami to create high potential at the cost of low health and precision requirements. Megumi’s domain disables other domains, and his awakening can summon Mahoraga mid-match. The indexed moves are Rabbit Escape, Nue, Toad, Divine Dog: Totality, and Lurking Shadow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Separate the summoner from the summons

Do not tunnel-vision the shikigami while Megumi’s body is exposed. Track which summon is active, identify its attack direction, and pressure Megumi when the summon cannot cover the approach. A summon that is chasing you is also information: use its path to choose a route that keeps Megumi in view.

Pressure the low-health body safely

Megumi’s lower durability rewards decisive but controlled entries. Bait a shikigami attack, then close the distance during its recovery. Do not chase into an active summon or corner yourself; one clean hit is preferable to a trade that lets Megumi reset behind another summon.

Plan for Mahoraga before awakening

Save a disengage and identify open ground before Megumi activates awakening. Once Mahoraga appears, prioritize survival and positioning over a greedy combo. Keep Q available, avoid narrow corridors, and wait for the large threat to commit before returning damage. The exact behavior can change between patches, so do not rely on a fixed sequence.

Respect the domain lockout

Megumi’s domain disables other domains, removing a common resource trade. If you are near death or have no safe route, do not assume your own domain will answer it. Leave the activation area when possible, then re-enter only after you have identified where the shikigami coverage is weakest.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Quick notes for other frequently discussed matchups

  • Choso: Expect zoning and combo pressure. His melee counter requires resource management, so force him to spend that resource before committing to a close-range exchange.
  • Naoya: His speed makes careless whiffs dangerous, but his health is low. Use short, controlled checks and punish the first failed approach instead of trying to race every movement.
  • Yuki: Her attacks have long windups. Watch the startup, block or move out, and punish the recovery rather than challenging the move before it is committed.
  • Higuruma: His trial sequence can produce a short-lived one-hit sword state. Disengage during that state and resume pressure only after the temporary threat has ended.
  • Yuta/Rika: Sustained pressure and the longest domain are the main concerns, while base damage is lower. Preserve mobility, avoid being trapped in prolonged pressure, and use the recovery window after a missed sequence.

How to stop awakenings and domains without guessing

  1. Check the resource state before attacking. If the opponent has a full awakening or domain resource, use safer pokes and keep an escape lane.
  2. Recognize the activation animation. Stop your current string if it will leave you stationary when the sequence begins.
  3. Move to open ground. Walls, props, and corners reduce your options against displacement, grabs, and summoned threats.
  4. Spend Q only on the confirmed danger. A dash used during the activation may be wasted; a dash used to escape the first stun can prevent the entire follow-up.
  5. Survive the temporary state. Block, sidestep, and disengage instead of forcing damage into a state designed to reward trades.
  6. Re-enter after the resource ends. Use your strongest confirmed punish when the opponent returns to normal rather than gambling during the protected window.

A practice routine that builds real matchup skill

  1. Learn recognition labels. In a private or low-pressure server, identify each opponent’s four skills and special by animation. For V1.83, use the move names listed in the matchup sections as memory anchors.
  2. Drill one whiff punish. Stand at the edge of the opponent’s range, block or sidestep the selected move, and retaliate with your fastest reliable attack. Repeat until you can do it without spending Q.
  3. Drill dash discipline. Play several exchanges while refusing to use Q for approach. Spend it only after a stun, grab, or domain entry threatens to convert into a combo.
  4. Practice the reset. After landing one confirmed hit, back away instead of extending automatically. This teaches you to deny healing, immortality, or a transformation-based trade.
  5. Review the resource decision. After each round, note whether your awakening was used to survive a decisive sequence or merely to gain a small lead. Keep it for the former.

Patch awareness and what not to assume

Jujutsu Shenanigans changes over time. A community index identifies build V1.83 and documents 21 characters and 84 moves, while the fan wiki reports an August 4, 2026 update; neither makes frame-perfect guarantees safe across every later patch. Startup, hitboxes, damage, domain rules, and awakening behavior can all change.

Use this guide as a decision framework: identify the range, watch the startup, preserve mobility, track resources, and punish recovery. Recheck the in-game move behavior after an update, especially if a previously reliable sidestep, escape, or combo no longer works. “Frequently top-ranked” describes the characters commonly placed near the top of dated community tier lists; it is not a permanent objective ranking.
