There is no verified Agent Spider counter guide yet. As of October 13, 2026, Agent Spider has only been announced as an upcoming Invincible VS DLC character with a winter release window. The available announcement does not document his attacks, frame data, movement, assists, or weaknesses. Until he is playable, treat any specific punish, spacing tip, or matchup tier claim as speculation. The reliable plan is to record his tools in Training Mode on the current patch, measure their risks, and build your counterplay from repeatable tests.

What is confirmed about Agent Spider

Gematsu reported the DLC announcement on October 11, 2026. It gives Agent Spider a winter release window, but not a precise launch date. No official moveset, frame data, gameplay demonstration with usable numbers, or matchup guide was identified in the available material. That means a guide cannot honestly tell you which normal to challenge, which special to punish, or whether a particular attack is safe on block.

Confirmed information What it means for counterplay
Agent Spider is announced DLC, not a documented playable character in the available information. There is no tested character-specific game plan to copy yet.
The stated release window is winter; no exact date is given. Check the official release notice and your platform before scheduling practice or buying content.
Invincible VS is presented as a three-versus-three tag fighter. You must test both one-on-one interactions and how Agent Spider changes tag pressure, assists, and incoming situations.
The listing names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Verify the current platform, edition, regional availability, and DLC entitlement at launch.
Training, Arcade, and multiplayer modes are listed. Training Mode is the appropriate place to establish punish windows before relying on online matches.

The announcement also mentions a new mode and arena, but it does not establish how those additions affect Agent Spider’s matchup. Do not infer a weakness from the character’s name, theme, trailer presentation, or presumed source material.

Why a specific counter cannot be stated yet

A useful fighting-game counter requires observable properties. At minimum, you need to know Agent Spider’s fastest buttons, the reach and recovery of his neutral tools, his grounded and aerial approaches, the startup and invulnerability of his specials, his defensive options, and the way his assists interact with a tag sequence. None of those values are established here.

Even a move that looks punishable can be safe because of pushback, spacing, a cancel route, an assist call, or a patch-specific change. Conversely, a move that appears strong may lose to a fast jab, a jump, a backdash, a long-range normal, or a character-specific reversal. Without the actual animation, hitbox, recovery, and blockstun behavior, naming one of those answers would create a false sense of certainty.

Prepare before the DLC becomes available

Confirm the version and access

  1. Check the game’s current patch number on your platform.
  2. Confirm that Agent Spider is selectable in your edition or through the relevant DLC entitlement. Do not assume that owning the base game automatically includes the character.
  3. Record the date, platform, region, and patch in your notes. A later balance update can invalidate a punish that was correct on launch day.
  4. Use Training Mode first. Arcade or online play can reveal tendencies, but they are poor places to measure a move’s exact risk.

Build a repeatable Training Mode setup

Use the same settings for every test so that your conclusions can be reproduced. Set the dummy to block after the first hit when checking true gaps, and use the recording function to replay Agent Spider’s approach, special, assist call, and tag sequence. Keep your character’s fastest normal and a known long-range option available. If the game displays frame information, record the value; if it does not, compare the interaction with a consistent button and note whether the punish works at point-blank and maximum spacing.

Map the complete toolkit

Do not test only the move that defeats you in a match. Make an inventory under these headings:

  • Grounded attacks: fastest button, longest low, overhead or other high/low threats, advancing normals, and buttons that cancel into specials.
  • Aerial tools: jump-in attacks, air specials, cross-up angles, air-to-air buttons, and options that alter his landing trajectory.
  • Specials and movement: approach moves, projectiles, mobility changes, command-style attacks, invulnerable or armored actions, and moves that cross through the opponent.
  • Defense: reversal options, pushback, backdash behavior, guard-cancel mechanics, and whether he can escape a corner without spending a resource.
  • Tag tools: assist startup and recovery, assist coverage, tag-in attacks, extensions after a hit, and pressure after a blocked assist.
  • Resources: meter, cooldowns, charges, or other limits that determine how often the strongest option can be used.

Step-by-step tests for counterplay

1. Find the fastest punish

Record each special and heavy pressure ender at point-blank range. Block it, then try your fastest normal. Repeat at the range where the move is normally used. If your button connects consistently, record the punish; if it trades or loses, test a faster option, a reversal, or a movement response. Test both sides of the screen because pushback and corner proximity can change the result.

  • A printed controller layout card lets you dive straight into the game’s fast, combo-heavy combat, while a developer letter – signed by the entire team – delivers a direct message of appreciation to the community.

2. Check for gaps instead of guessing

Set the dummy to mash after blocking the first attack. If your dummy’s button interrupts Agent Spider’s follow-up, there is a gap under that timing. Repeat with delayed buttons, crouch block, and jump to distinguish a real gap from a recording artifact. Then test whether he can cancel into an assist or another move to remove the gap. A gap that exists only when no assist is called is not a dependable answer in a tag sequence.

3. Measure approach coverage

Test his grounded approach from outside your fastest button’s range, at mid-screen, and near the corner. Try walking back, standing block, crouch block, jumping, an air-to-air attack, and a long-range normal. Record which response stops the approach while leaving you safe from the next option. Repeat against an aerial approach and any movement that changes his jump arc or trajectory.

4. Test whiff punishment

Record Agent Spider’s advancing normal or far-reaching special, then make it miss at several distances. Identify the recovery animation and the farthest range at which your character can hit him. A whiff punish that works only at a perfect distance is a situational option, so mark the spacing requirement in your notes rather than calling it a universal counter.

5. Test defensive and reversal choices

After blocking a pressure string, try backdash, jump, your fastest normal, a reversal, and a guard-cancel option if the game provides one. Repeat in the corner and after an assist. Note whether the response loses to a delayed attack, a low, an overhead, or a throw. The goal is not to find one escape that always works; it is to identify a small set of choices that force Agent Spider’s player to vary timing.

6. Test tag and assist interactions

Because Invincible VS uses three-versus-three tag combat, record Agent Spider both as the point character and as an assist. Test whether his assist covers a low, an overhead, a left-right movement, or a retreat. Check its recovery if it whiffs, whether you can hit the assist character, and which punish is available when the assist is blocked. Then test incoming situations: after one of his teammates is defeated, record whether his entry can be challenged, blocked, or escaped with a jump or reversal. These results can matter more than a single neutral button in a real match.

7. Establish resource and cooldown limits

If his strongest approach or defensive move consumes meter, a charge, or a cooldown, test the same sequence with and without that resource. Record the cost, the number of uses available, and what happens when the resource is empty. A tactic that is dominant only while fully stocked should be treated differently from a low-cost option he can repeat every interaction.

Turn observations into a usable game plan

Once the tests are complete, organize your notes by the decision you need to make rather than by move name. The following framework keeps the matchup practical:

Question What to record How it changes your plan
Can you challenge the approach? Range, startup, jump angle, and whether the approach is protected. Choose a button, anti-air, retreat, or block based on the distance and timing.
Can you punish the pressure ender? Block result, pushback, recovery, and corner variation. Use the fastest reliable punish instead of a slower, higher-damage guess.
Can he escape? Backdash, reversal, jump, armor, and resource requirement. Adjust meaty timing, throw attempts, and bait options.
Does the assist change the exchange? Coverage, recovery, blockstun, and tag routes. Stop challenging a gap that is safe when the assist is available; punish the call when it is exposed.
Where is he weakest? Mid-screen, corner, air, grounded neutral, or when out of resources. Steer the match toward the tested situation instead of playing every range equally.

Write a short provisional plan with three parts: a neutral response, a blockstring escape, and a way to punish a failed assist or special. Each part should include the spacing and timing that make it work. Then test the plan against a human opponent or a varied recording rather than relying on one successful repetition.

Conditional responses to common archetypes

These are decision branches, not claims about Agent Spider’s undisclosed design. Use one only if Training Mode confirms the behavior.

If he relies on fast rushdown

Prioritize a reliable challenge after blocked pressure, an anti-air for predictable jumps, and movement that denies point-blank range. Test delayed buttons and throws so that your defense does not lose to a single timing pattern. If his approach is assist-backed, first determine whether the assist can be interrupted or whether you must block and wait for recovery.

If he controls space from a distance

Measure the recovery of his projectile or long-range tool before trying to jump. Compare walking forward, super-jump or normal jump, your own projectile, and a forward-moving attack if your character has one. The best answer may be to take small amounts of space while blocking rather than making a predictable full-screen commitment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If he uses evasive movement

Record the start and end points of the movement, its vulnerable frames, and whether he can attack before landing. Use a low-commitment check at the exit point, then test a delayed button or throw if he can evade a single immediate attack. Do not chase automatically; make the movement spend its advantage without giving up your turn.

If he has armor or an invulnerable reversal

Find the resource, timing, and recovery attached to it. Bait the option with a safe block or empty movement, then punish the recovery. If the move is available without a resource, vary your pressure timing and avoid repeating a meaty that loses to the same reversal.

If his strength is tag pressure

Identify the assist call’s vulnerable point and the safest way to disengage. Sometimes the correct answer is to block the sequence and preserve your character; sometimes it is to hit the assist character or force the point character away before the call arrives. Test both choices, including the corner, where pushback and incoming positioning can be different.

How to keep the matchup accurate after release

Agent Spider’s launch version may not remain unchanged. When a patch alters damage, startup, recovery, hitboxes, pushback, assists, or resource costs, repeat the tests that support your written advice. Label every note with the patch number and date. A community clip without those details can demonstrate a possibility, but it is not enough to establish that the result still works on the current version.

When sharing a punish, include the exact situation: the move used, spacing, block position, your character and button, whether an assist was called, and the result over multiple attempts. Separate a guaranteed punish from a prediction about what a player is likely to do. If a result depends on a specific character, corner position, or resource state, state that limitation next to the recommendation.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using pre-release speculation: a trailer animation or character theme does not prove frame data, hitboxes, or a weakness.
  • Copying an old clip: check the patch and platform before treating it as current.
  • Testing only point character interactions: tag assists and incoming attacks can change the answer entirely.
  • Calling a move unsafe from one spacing: pushback can make the same move punishable at point-blank but safe at its intended range.
  • Practicing only against a predictable recording: vary delays, assists, movement, and resource states to avoid learning a trap that works once.
  • Assuming the base game includes the DLC: verify the edition and entitlement on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, or PC before expecting access.

When a definitive counter guide will be possible

A dependable matchup guide can be written after Agent Spider is playable and his launch tools can be reproduced in Training Mode. At that point, a useful guide should identify punishable specials, reliable anti-airs, assist responses, corner escapes, resource-dependent threats, and the patch version for every recommendation. Until those observations exist, the honest answer is preparation rather than a fabricated list of counters.

For now, select a familiar character, learn your fastest punish and best anti-air, and keep a dated Training Mode checklist ready for the winter release. That gives you information you can verify immediately instead of relying on an unconfirmed matchup claim.
