There is no built-in Apple or Google setting that shares one alarm across a family’s phones. Each person can create a reliable alarm on their own device, while a shared-alarm app can coordinate a group and a parent-managed app can control a child’s alarm. Choose the model that matches your family, then verify the alarm on every phone before relying on it for school, work or travel.
What “family alarm across phones” can mean
Families usually mean one of three different things when they search for a “shared alarm clock app”:
- Everyone sets the same wake-up time independently. Each person owns and controls an alarm on their own phone.
- One person sends an alarm to several people. A shared-alarm service distributes a one-time or repeating alarm, usually with an approval step for recipients.
- A parent sets a child’s alarm remotely. A family alarm service lets the parent edit the alarm and may report whether the child woke up.
These are different control and trust models. A regular iPhone or Android alarm handles only the first model. The official instructions for both platforms describe alarms being created and managed on the device itself; they do not describe synchronizing one built-in alarm to other family phones.
What the built-in alarm apps actually support
iPhone: alarms belong to the iPhone
Apple’s Clock app lets you set an alarm for a time, choose repeat days and change or disable it on that iPhone. Follow Apple’s current instructions in Set an alarm in Clock on iPhone. The practical path is:

- Open Clock and tap Alarms.
- Tap the add button, choose the time and select Repeat days if the alarm is for a school or work schedule.
- Choose a label, sound and whether Snooze is available, then save it.
- Ask the phone’s owner to check the alarm switch, volume and repeat days on that device.
Apple distinguishes a normal Clock alarm from a sleep schedule in Health. As Apple puts it, “Any alarm you set up in Clock is unrelated to a sleep schedule.” A sleep-schedule wake-up alarm is configured through Health and still does not publish the schedule to another person’s iPhone.
Android: the Clock app is also device-specific
Google’s Clock Help explains that users can “make and change alarms in the Clock app on your Android device, Pixel phone or Pixel Tablet.” Open Clock, select Alarm, add or edit the time, choose repeat days and save. Google’s instructions also cover switching alarms off and deleting them; see Google Clock Help.
Menu names and sound controls can differ between Android manufacturers and versions. The important limitation is consistent in the cited help: the alarm is managed on that Android device. Google’s page does not document a family-wide alarm that appears automatically on another phone.

Choose the right coordination model
| Model | Who sets the alarm? | Recipient control | Repeat schedule | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in Clock alarms | Each person on their own phone | The device owner | Apple and Google document repeat controls | Official platform instructions; no cross-phone sharing described |
| Shared group alarm | A sender shares an alarm with friends or a group | SynClock’s Google Play listing says each recipient must accept before it rings | The listing describes one-time and recurring schedules | Third-party listing claims, not independent reliability testing |
| Parent-managed family alarm | A parent sets or edits a child’s alarm | Confirm child controls in the current app version | Verify the current feature set | WeWake’s Google Play listing describes remote editing and wake-up status reporting |
If all you need is a common 7:00 a.m. start, separate built-in alarms are the least complicated option. Use a shared service when a sender must distribute changes or when recipients need to acknowledge an invitation. Use a parent-managed service only when remote control and status reporting justify the additional permissions and account setup.
Option 1: set and verify an alarm on every phone
This approach works across iPhone and Android because it does not depend on a shared service. It is also the easiest to recover if an app, account or notification permission fails.
Use a common setup checklist
- Agree on the time zone and the exact wake-up time. A family traveling across time zones should decide whether the alarm follows local time or the original home time.
- On each phone, create the alarm and select every required repeat day instead of assuming a previous schedule is still active.
- Choose a sound that the owner can hear and set the device’s alarm volume. Media volume and ringtone volume are not always the same control.
- Check that the alarm is enabled after saving. A visible time without an active switch will not ring.
- Keep the phone charged and place it where the owner can hear it. Do not rely on a phone that is powered off or has an exhausted battery.
- Run a short test at a convenient time. Confirm that the sound is audible, the screen shows the expected alarm and the owner knows how to dismiss or snooze it.
When this is the best choice
- Each family member wants control over sound, snooze and wake-up time.
- The phones use different platforms and no app has confirmed support for both.
- The alarm is important enough that you want the fewest moving parts.
- A child’s schedule changes often and the child or another caregiver can update the device directly.
Option 2: use a shared group-alarm app
SynClock’s Google Play listing describes sending an alarm to friends or a group. It says recipients must accept a shared alarm before it rings for them and that both one-time and recurring schedules are supported. The listing also uses the phrase, “Nobody gets woken up by surprise: shared alarms only ring after you accept them.” That is promotional listing language, not an independent test of delivery or reliability.

How to evaluate a shared alarm before depending on it
- Confirm platform coverage. The cited SynClock source is a Google Play listing. Do not assume an iPhone version exists; check the current store listing and the developer’s compatibility information for every family member’s phone.
- Create a low-stakes test. Send a one-time alarm for a time when everyone is awake. Verify that each invite arrives, that each recipient can accept it and that the accepted alarm appears locally.
- Test the recurring schedule. Check which days are selected, whether a later edit replaces the existing schedule and whether recipients must approve changes again.
- Check account and notification permissions. Review notification permission, battery-use restrictions and any sign-in or invitation requirement. A notification-based service may behave differently when background activity is restricted.
- Test a failure scenario. Temporarily disable notifications or disconnect a test phone from the internet, then restore it and see how the app reports the missed or pending alarm. The listing does not establish what happens when a phone is offline, asleep, out of battery or blocking notifications.
- Keep a local backup. For an exam, flight or early shift, have each person set a native Clock alarm as a fallback even if the shared alarm is accepted.
Advantages and trade-offs
- Advantage: one sender can distribute a time and recurring pattern instead of repeating the setup on every phone.
- Advantage: recipient acceptance can prevent an unwanted alarm from being imposed without consent.
- Trade-off: every recipient may need the compatible app, an account or an active notification channel.
- Trade-off: the available evidence is a store description, not independent testing. Reliability under poor connectivity, battery-saving modes or denied notifications is not established.
Option 3: let a parent manage a child’s alarm remotely
WeWake’s Google Play listing describes a parent setting and editing a child’s alarm remotely and receiving wake-up status. Those are developer claims from the listing. Before adopting this model, check the current app version, supported phones, account roles, permission requests, privacy policy and pricing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsQuestions to answer before setup
- Does the child’s phone use a supported operating system, and is there a separate app for the parent’s phone?
- Can the child see, change or disable the alarm? The cited listing describes parent controls but does not establish the child’s exact controls.
- What does “wake-up status” mean: an acknowledgement, an in-app action or an inferred state? Do not treat a status indicator as proof that a child is physically out of bed.
- What happens if either phone is offline, the child’s battery is empty or the operating system stops background activity?
- Which data is collected, who can see it and how can the family delete the account?
Safer rollout
- Install only from the phone’s official app store and read the current listing and privacy disclosures.
- Pair the parent and child accounts while both people are present. Agree on who may edit alarms and how changes will be communicated.
- Set a test alarm for the same day. Confirm the child’s phone actually rings and that the parent receives the expected status signal.
- Repeat the test after enabling the child phone’s normal battery-saving settings. If delivery changes, document the required exception or use a native alarm as backup.
- Review the arrangement with the child. Remote control should support a family routine, not conceal monitoring or replace an agreed sleep plan.
Coordinating an iPhone and an Android phone
Apple’s and Google’s built-in alarms do not provide a documented bridge between the platforms. If one person has an iPhone and another has Android, setting the same time manually works immediately. A third-party app can work only if it explicitly supports both platforms and the required sharing role; the Google Play listings cited for SynClock and WeWake establish Android distribution but do not, by themselves, establish iPhone support.
For a mixed-device family, use this sequence:
- Set native alarms on both phones for the agreed time.
- If you want centralized changes, identify an app with current iOS and Android listings before creating accounts.
- Invite one person first and run a one-time test.
- Only after the test succeeds, create the recurring schedule and retain native backup alarms for important mornings.
Reliability checklist for important mornings
No cited source supplies a failure-rate statistic or independent comparison of alarm apps. Treat every app-based alarm as a convenience that needs verification, not as a guaranteed wake-up service.

- Power: charge each phone overnight and inspect the cable, outlet and charging indicator.
- Alarm state: confirm the alarm is enabled, the repeat days are correct and the time zone has not changed.
- Sound: play the selected alarm tone and check alarm volume; do not infer it from music or call volume.
- Permissions: allow required notifications and background operation, then retest after major operating-system updates.
- Connectivity: understand whether the app needs internet access only to schedule an alarm or also at ring time.
- Human backup: for a flight, exam or medical appointment, use a second alarm on another device or arrange a phone call.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The other person never received an invitation
Check the address or account identifier, notification permission and internet connection. Confirm that the recipient is using a supported platform and has completed any acceptance step. If the app remains unconfirmed, set a native alarm on the recipient’s phone.
The invitation was accepted but no alarm rang
Check the local alarm switch, alarm volume, battery level and battery-saving restrictions. Run a one-time test rather than waiting for the next recurring event. The available listing information does not establish how the app handles an offline phone, so do not assume it will recover automatically.
The recurring alarm has the wrong days
Edit the schedule on the controlling account and inspect the resulting schedule on every recipient phone. Day-of-week errors are especially common when a family crosses a time zone or when a one-time alarm is mistaken for a repeating one.

A parent cannot see a child’s wake-up status
Confirm that both accounts are paired, the child’s app has the required permissions and the child’s phone is online. Treat a missing status as an unverified wake-up, not as evidence that the child ignored the alarm. Keep a local alarm and an agreed human check-in for critical events.
Privacy and family-agreement considerations
A shared alarm reveals schedules and, in a parent-managed model, may create status data about a child. Before enabling one, agree on what is shared, who can edit the alarm, how long status data is retained and how the account will be removed. Use the minimum permissions needed for alarms and avoid granting unrelated access. Store the app’s privacy and support links somewhere the family can review after an update.
Bottom line: a practical family setup
For most families, start with a native alarm on every phone and a shared written schedule. Add a shared group-alarm app only when centralized distribution is worth testing its acceptance, notification and connectivity behavior. Choose a parent-managed app only after confirming device compatibility, privacy terms and the meaning of its wake-up status. Whatever model you choose, run a real test on every phone and keep a native backup for mornings that matter.
