In How to Fish, Volcano Island’s lava can cook a catch to a reported 1.5× multiplier. Catch and collect a fish, hold it in a flowing lava stream until its appearance changes, retrieve it, then sell it to the camp merchant. A dated guide says lava stays at the maximum multiplier without the grill’s risk of burning the fish.
How the Volcano Island lava method works
This guide is for How to Fish, the Dazed Games PC game on Steam—not real-world fishing or another similarly named game. Steam describes fishing, selling catches, gear progression, quests, bosses, trick shots, and gambling as parts of the game. View How to Fish on Steam.
The steps and multipliers below come from an unofficial guide updated August 29, 2026, rather than an official manual or patch note. Treat them as reported game behavior, which could change with an update. Read the dated Volcano Island guide.
- Cast on Volcano Island and catch a fish you want to sell. The guide names Blobfish as one example.
- Kill and collect the fish as the game requires.
- Carry the fish into a flowing lava stream and hold it there until its appearance indicates it is cooked.
- Retrieve it. The guide reports a 1.5× cooking multiplier.
- Take the cooked fish to the shore camp merchant and sell it.
The guide’s Blobfish example is valued at 2,244 before cooking and 3,366 afterward. Those are figures for that individual example, not a guaranteed price for every Blobfish or catch.

Lava cooking versus the grill
The same guide describes both lava and the Island 3 grill as reaching a maximum 1.5× cooking multiplier. It says the grill can burn a fish if left on too long, while lava holds at the maximum rather than requiring the same timing. That makes lava the lower-timing-risk option according to the guide; it does not establish that every fish or sale outcome will be identical.
Which lure to use on Volcano Island
The guide recommends the Scientific Lure for higher-tier regular catches, including Blobfish, Oarfish, Anglerfish, Stonefish, and Superdwarf Fish. Its estimate of about $500 predates the latest updates cited there, so check the in-game price rather than assuming that amount is current.

The Scientific Lure is useful for the money loop because it targets the higher-value catch pool described by the guide. The sources do not establish a guaranteed profit or a fixed coins-per-hour rate.

- Use the Scientific Lure for the island’s higher-tier regular catches, if its current in-game price makes sense for your balance.
- When practical, finish a catch with a trick shot for the stylish-kill approach described in the money guide.
- Cook sale-bound fish in lava, then retrieve them once cooked.
- Return to the shore camp merchant and sell your catches in a trip.
- Reinvest proceeds in useful upgrades or more inventory capacity, then repeat.
Trick shots take extra effort and are not equally practical for every fish. The Volcano Island guide says Superdwarf Fish is too small for large trick shots such as 360 spins; catch it normally and cook it instead. The money guide, updated August 25, 2026, recommends combining valuable catches, stylish kills where practical, cooking, selling, and reinvestment, but gives no defensible universal earnings-per-hour figure.
