To silence or restore alerts for a Gemini scheduled action, change Gemini’s notification permission in your device settings. On Android, open Settings → Notifications → App notifications → Google → Show unused categories → Gemini, then switch Gemini notifications on or off. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, search for Gemini, choose Gemini → Notifications, and change Allow Notifications.
Those switches affect alerts only. They do not stop Gemini from running the scheduled action. To prevent an action from running, pause it in Gemini’s Scheduled actions settings. The web app does not use the mobile push switch: completed responses appear as unread chats.
Choose the control that matches what you want
Gemini separates notification delivery from the scheduled task itself. Before changing anything, decide whether you want to silence an alert, stop the task, change its instructions, or simply find a result that is already ready.

Google describes the notification behavior in its Scheduled action notifications help page: when a response is ready, the web app marks its chat unread and mobile users receive a device notification if the operating system allows it.

A quick diagnostic before you change anything
- Identify where you expect the alert: an Android or iPhone notification, or an unread chat on the web.
- Decide whether the action should continue generating responses. If yes, change only notifications. If no, pause it.
- Check whether the menu says Scheduled actions or Schedules in Gemini Spark. Those are separate management surfaces.
- Confirm that you are using the Google Account that created the action. Availability and action lists can differ between accounts.
This short check prevents the most common mistake: disabling notifications when the real goal is to stop the task, or pausing a task when the only problem is an inconvenient alert.
First confirm that you are using Scheduled actions
Gemini has another feature called Schedules for tasks in Gemini Spark. The names and management screens are similar, but they are documented separately and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Scheduled actions
Scheduled actions are managed through a Scheduled actions area in Gemini. Google’s documented web route is Settings & help → Scheduled actions. From there, you can pause, resume, edit, or delete an action. The same action can also expose editing controls in its chat.
Gemini Spark schedules
Google’s separate Gemini Spark schedules guide describes a Schedules page in the Gemini web app and conversational schedule edits in a task thread on mobile. If your interface explicitly says Spark or Schedules, follow that feature’s instructions rather than the Scheduled actions route in this article.
This distinction matters when a menu is missing. A Scheduled actions control will not necessarily appear in a Spark schedule, and a Spark Schedules page is not evidence that ordinary scheduled actions are enabled on the same account.
Turn Gemini scheduled-action notifications on or off on Android
Google’s documented Android route changes the Gemini notification category inside the Google app’s notification settings. Menu labels can vary by Android version and by the phone maker’s interface, but the sequence below is the published path.
- Open the Android Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap App notifications.
- Find and tap Google.
- Tap Show unused categories if that option is available.
- Tap Gemini.
- Turn the Gemini notification control on to receive alerts or off to silence them.
Android can expose several notification categories under the Google app. Make sure you change the category labeled Gemini, not an unrelated Google service. If your phone uses a search field in Settings, searching for “App notifications” or “Google notifications” can be faster than browsing menus.

- Touch and hold the Google app icon.
- Tap App info.
- Tap Notifications.
- Reveal unused categories if the phone hides them.
- Open Gemini and change its notification control.
The exact wording can differ between Android releases. The important parts are opening the Google app’s notification categories and selecting Gemini. If the category is not visible, first expand the unused or previously inactive categories list.
When Android asks to enable notifications during setup
If notifications were disabled while you created a scheduled action, Gemini may ask whether to enable them. Choose Turn on, then choose Allow in Android’s permission prompt. Choosing either a system-level “Don’t allow” option or a Gemini-specific off switch prevents the mobile alert even though the action itself can continue to run.
Android checks after switching Gemini back on
After enabling the Gemini category, verify that the master notification permission for the Google app is also allowed. A category cannot deliver a notification if the app’s overall notification permission is blocked. If alerts still do not appear, expand unused categories again, check the device’s lock-screen and sound presentation choices, and look for the response in Gemini’s web Chats list. The unread web chat is a useful way to separate a completed action from a notification-display problem.
Turn Gemini scheduled-action notifications on or off on iPhone or iPad
iOS and iPadOS use a direct app notification permission. Google’s documented path avoids relying on where the app appears in the alphabetical Settings list.
- Open Settings.
- Use the Settings search field and search for Gemini.
- Tap Gemini in the results.
- Tap Notifications.
- Turn Allow Notifications on or off.
When Allow Notifications is on, iOS can deliver Gemini alerts according to the options shown on that screen, such as Lock Screen, Notification Center, banners, sounds, and badges. Turning Allow Notifications off blocks the app’s device notifications; it does not pause, edit, or delete a scheduled action.
Lock-screen visibility is a separate choice
A notification can be permitted but hidden from the lock screen. If you expect an alert but do not see its text while the device is locked, inspect the Gemini notification options for Lock Screen and preview behavior. These presentation choices are separate from whether Gemini is allowed to post the notification at all.
If Allow Notifications is on but the alert is easy to miss, check whether banners, sounds, badges, or Notification Center delivery are disabled individually. Those choices change how an alert is presented, not whether Gemini continues preparing the scheduled response.

What happens on the web when a scheduled response is ready
Gemini’s web behavior is independent of mobile push permission. Google says a ready scheduled-action response appears as an unread chat under Chats in the Gemini web app. You can therefore discover a result on the web even when phone notifications are disabled, unavailable, or suppressed by a device mode.
- Open the Gemini web app in your browser.
- Open the Chats menu or chat list.
- Look for the unread conversation created by the scheduled action.
- Open the conversation to read the response and any available action details.
Turning off Android or iPhone notifications does not remove that unread marker. Conversely, reading the web chat does not change your phone’s notification permission for future responses.
Google’s help article states: When each response is ready, Gemini will notify you:
The notification channel depends on the surface: the web result is marked unread, while mobile delivery uses the device’s notification system and remains subject to device settings.

Pause, resume, edit, or delete the action itself
If your real objective is to stop Gemini from performing the scheduled task, notification settings are the wrong control. Use the action-management controls instead.

- Open Gemini on the web.
- Open Settings & help.
- Select Scheduled actions.
- Choose the action you want to stop temporarily.
- Select Pause.
Google states that a paused action will not run until you resume it. Pausing does not require changing your phone’s notification permission, so other Gemini alerts can continue normally.
Resume an action
Return to Settings & help → Scheduled actions, select the paused item, and choose Resume. Future runs follow the action’s existing schedule unless you edit it.
Edit the time or instructions
Open the action in Scheduled actions and choose its edit control, or use the editing option in the action’s chat when available. Review both the time pattern and the prompt text before saving. Editing changes future runs; it does not rewrite a response Gemini has already prepared.
Delete an action
Use Delete only when you no longer want the action. Deletion is different from pausing: a deleted action must be created again if you later decide to use it.
Pause versus mute: a concrete example
Suppose a weekday briefing arrives while you are asleep. Disable Gemini notifications if you still want Gemini to generate the briefing and make it available as an unread web chat. Pause the action if you do not want Gemini to generate that briefing at all. If the briefing’s content or delivery time is wrong, edit it rather than using either control as a workaround.
Troubleshoot missing or unexpected notifications
The action runs but no phone alert appears
- Check that Gemini notifications are enabled in the correct Google notification category on Android, or that Allow Notifications is enabled for Gemini on iPhone or iPad.
- On Android, expand Show unused categories; the Gemini category can be hidden when it has not recently been active.
- Review lock-screen, banner, sound, Focus, Do Not Disturb, battery-saving, and notification-summary settings on the device. These can suppress presentation even when app permission is enabled.
- Open Gemini on the web and check Chats for an unread response. This confirms that a result exists even if the mobile alert was filtered.
- Confirm that you did not pause the action while trying to silence notifications. A paused action produces no new response because it does not run.
The action does not appear on the web
Check that you opened the same Google Account that owns the action, then open the correct Chats list. If the action was paused, there will be no new response until it is resumed. If the action was deleted, it will not generate future chats. These states are different from a notification permission problem.
The Scheduled actions menu is missing
Google says scheduled actions are being made available gradually to personal Google Accounts. Qualifying work or school Google Workspace accounts can also use them. The feature requires Keep Activity to be on. If the control is absent, verify that you are signed into the intended account and check the account’s Gemini activity setting before assuming the app is malfunctioning.

Availability can differ between accounts, so an action visible in one account does not prove that another account is eligible. Google’s help page does not promise an immediate rollout date for every user.
You have reached the active-action limit
Google states that you can have up to 10 active scheduled actions at a time. If you cannot create another action, inspect Scheduled actions for items you no longer need. Pause or delete an existing action according to whether you may want to use it again.
The limit applies to active actions. Pausing an action is therefore a way to stop its runs while retaining it for later, whereas deleting removes it and requires recreation if you change your mind.
The response is delivered before the scheduled time
Gemini prepares scheduled responses ahead of delivery. Without a Google AI plan, preparation may occur up to several hours early. With a Google AI plan, preparation occurs within the hour before delivery. The notification time therefore does not mean Gemini fetched every fact at the exact moment you expected the alert.
Google warns that rapidly changing information, including stock prices, can be stale by the time a scheduled response is delivered. Scheduled actions are better suited to daily summaries, briefings, and wrap-ups than to information that must be current to the minute.

Scheduled actions are account features, not a separate physical notification device. Their availability depends on Google’s rollout and account requirements, while the final alert depends on operating-system permissions and presentation settings.
- Account eligibility: Google is gradually enabling scheduled actions for personal accounts and supports qualifying work or school Workspace accounts.
- Keep Activity: Google requires this activity setting to be enabled for scheduled actions.
- Active actions: The published limit is 10 active scheduled actions.
- Preparation window: Responses can be prepared before the delivery time, with different windows depending on whether a Google AI plan is present.
- Freshness: Rapidly changing data may be outdated when the response arrives, so use scheduled actions for summaries and wrap-ups rather than time-critical monitoring.
- Separate surfaces: Mobile notification permissions, web unread chats, Scheduled actions controls, and Spark’s Schedules page each serve different purposes.

Will turning off notifications stop Gemini from running the scheduled action?
No. Notification permissions silence mobile alerts only. To stop Gemini from running the prompt, open Settings & help → Scheduled actions, select the action, and choose Pause.

Why does Gemini’s scheduled response seem early or out of date?
