To connect a WordPress store to Amazon Marketplace, run your products through WooCommerce and then connect WooCommerce to Amazon with either a maintained integration extension or your own Selling Partner API (SP-API) application. The connection requires Amazon seller authorization, catalog-field mapping, a matching regional endpoint and marketplace ID, and ongoing monitoring after listings are created. A normal WordPress link to an Amazon product is a separate affiliate or referral use case and does not provide inventory, order or listing synchronization.
Choose the right type of Amazon connection
Marketplace synchronization
This is the model for a retailer that owns or controls stock and wants Amazon to become another sales channel. WooCommerce holds product and store data, while an integration sends listing information to Amazon and can exchange inventory, orders, shipment updates, cancellations, refunds or prices when the application has the required permissions. You need an Amazon selling account, seller authorization and a connector or SP-API application.
Content, referral or affiliate links
If WordPress is only a magazine, catalog or comparison site that links visitors to Amazon, you do not need SP-API seller authorization for listing management. You also will not receive Amazon orders in WooCommerce or keep stock synchronized. Treat this as a link-and-content project rather than a commerce integration.
What you need before starting
- WordPress with WooCommerce: WooCommerce is the commerce layer that stores SKUs, prices, stock, descriptions, images and orders.
- An Amazon Professional selling account: Amazon states that only Professional selling accounts can access Developer Central and create an SP-API developer profile. The primary account user must create that profile. Amazon’s page accessed in 2026 lists the Professional plan at $39.99 per month plus selling fees; pricing, taxes, promotions and marketplace terms can change, so verify the charge for your marketplace before enrolling.
- A target marketplace: Decide whether you will sell in a North American, European or Far East marketplace. SP-API endpoint families are regional and must match the marketplace ID you send with each request.
- Complete product data: Have stable SKUs, product identifiers, titles, descriptions, images, condition, price, quantity, shipping settings, category and product-type attributes ready.
- Operational ownership: Decide who handles listing errors, stock conflicts, late shipments, cancellations, refunds and customer-service escalations.
- Secure WordPress administration: Use HTTPS, limit administrator accounts and keep WordPress, WooCommerce and any connector updated. WooCommerce’s Marketplace documentation emphasizes regular updates for compatibility, security and performance.
Extension or custom SP-API connector?
A connector extension is usually the quickest route for a small catalog and familiar workflows. A custom application is appropriate when your business needs unusual product types, several marketplaces, strict audit trails, bespoke fulfillment logic or control over every feed and retry.
#1 Best Overall
| Decision area | Maintained extension | Custom SP-API application |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplaces and regions | Coverage varies by vendor and edition; verify each target marketplace and regional endpoint before purchase. | You select and implement the marketplaces and regional endpoint families you need. |
| Product schemas and listing fields | Uses the fields and product types exposed by the extension; uncommon attributes may be unavailable. | You map WooCommerce fields to the Amazon product-type requirements you choose, including custom validation. |
| Inventory and order direction | Often offers predefined one-way or two-way syncs; confirm whether stock, orders, cancellations and refunds flow in each direction. | You define the authoritative system, conflict rules, polling or event handling and data transformations. |
| Fulfillment and shipment support | May include shipment confirmation or tracking tools, but support differs by extension and region. | You implement shipment, tracking, cancellation and fulfillment behavior required by your operation. |
| Authentication and permissions | The vendor supplies an authorization screen or setup wizard; you remain responsible for seller consent and account security. | You implement Login with Amazon authorization, token storage, refresh handling, permissions and regional routing. |
| Error recovery and observability | Depends on the extension’s logs, alerts, retry policy and support process. | You can persist request IDs, payload validation errors, throttling responses, retries and business-level alerts. |
| Update cadence | You depend on the vendor to track WooCommerce and Amazon changes; check its current compatibility statement. | Your team must monitor SP-API deprecations, schema changes, rate limits and WooCommerce releases. |
| Support | Support hours, documentation and response times are vendor-specific. | Support comes from your developers and your own operational runbooks. |
| Total cost | License, subscription, setup and possible per-order charges vary by product; obtain current terms. | Higher initial engineering and maintenance cost, but no dependency on a connector’s commercial plan. |
| Lock-in and export | Check whether mappings, logs and order data can be exported if you change tools. | You own the code and data model, although migration still requires careful testing. |
No single third-party WordPress connector is established here as universally maintained, fully two-way, available in every region and suitable for every catalog. Validate the extension’s current release, supported product types, marketplace coverage, price and synchronization direction before committing.
Step 1: Register Amazon access and a developer application
- Use or create the Professional selling account. Confirm that the account is the primary account user and that the target marketplace is enabled for selling.
- Create a Solution Provider Portal account. Amazon’s onboarding sequence begins with registration preparation and a Solution Provider Portal account.
- Create the developer profile. Enter the business and contact details Amazon requests, then record the developer identifiers and permissions granted.
- Register a sandbox application. Start with the sandbox rather than production credentials. A public application intended for multiple sellers needs Amazon approval before Appstore publication; a private application for your own seller account follows the authorization path Amazon provides for that use case.
- Make a sandbox call. Prove that your application can authenticate, select the correct region and marketplace, and process a response before connecting live products.
- Set up seller authorization. The seller must grant the application the permissions required for its operations. Keep a record of the consent date, account, marketplace and granted roles.
Step 2: Implement SP-API authentication correctly
Amazon’s connection example combines a Login with Amazon (LWA) access token, a regional SP-API endpoint, an operation path, a marketplaceIds query parameter and request headers containing the access token, date and user-agent. Amazon states that an LWA access token must be included in calls to all operations except restricted operations.

Choose the endpoint family that corresponds to the marketplace: North America, Europe or Far East. Do not select an endpoint solely because the WordPress server is nearby; the Amazon marketplace and its endpoint region are the deciding factors. Store the marketplace ID with each account configuration so a job cannot accidentally send European data to a North American marketplace.
Token handling
- Keep client credentials, refresh tokens and seller identifiers outside WordPress post content and outside publicly readable configuration files.
- Exchange the authorization grant for an LWA access token on the server side, refresh it before expiry and never expose it in browser JavaScript.
- Give each seller or marketplace configuration its own token record and revocation path.
- Log non-secret request metadata, response status, Amazon request IDs and the affected SKU so failures can be investigated without copying credentials into logs.
Step 3: Map WooCommerce products to Amazon’s catalog
Amazon’s listing lifecycle starts with discovery, continues through creation and ends with maintenance. Mapping is therefore more than copying a WooCommerce title into an Amazon form.
Discovery and eligibility
For each SKU, determine whether the item already exists in Amazon’s catalog. Match the correct product identifier and variation relationship, then check category restrictions, condition rules and whether the seller is eligible to list the item. A catalog match may let you contribute an offer without creating a new product detail page; an unmatched or materially different item may require the product data Amazon’s product type demands.
Required field mapping
| WooCommerce data | Amazon listing data to validate | Questions to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| SKU and variation ID | Seller SKU, parent-child relationship and variation attributes | Will the SKU remain stable if a product is edited or imported again? |
| GTIN, UPC, EAN or other identifier | Product identifier and identifier exemption, where applicable | Does the identifier point to the exact brand, size, color and pack quantity? |
| Title and description | Product-type title, bullets and description fields | Are required attributes, units and language appropriate for the marketplace? |
| Images | Main and additional image roles | Are image URLs stable, reachable and compliant with Amazon’s requirements? |
| Condition | New, used or other permitted condition values | Does the selected condition match the physical item and category policy? |
| Price and quantity | Offer price, sale price where supported and available quantity | Which system wins when a price or stock value changes in both systems? |
| Shipping and fulfillment | Merchant-fulfilled settings, handling time, shipping templates or applicable fulfillment program fields | Who confirms shipment and tracking, and within what service-level window? |
| Category attributes | Amazon product-type attributes, compliance fields and required variations | What happens when Amazon changes a required attribute or rejects a value? |
Build a validation report before submission. Flag missing identifiers, unsupported characters, invalid units, absent images, unmapped variations and category-specific required fields instead of sending a partial listing and diagnosing failures afterward.

- Submit a small batch. Begin with a handful of representative SKUs, including at least one variation and one item with a different fulfillment or condition rule.
- Read the submission result. Store Amazon’s status, issue codes, messages and request identifiers alongside the WooCommerce SKU.
- Resolve blocking issues. Correct identifiers, attributes, eligibility or policy data, then retry only the affected records.
- Verify buyability. A technically accepted listing still needs a valid offer, quantity, price and fulfillment configuration before customers can buy it.
- Schedule maintenance. Continue checking listing state, inventory, price, suppressed offers and new issues after creation. Amazon treats maintenance as a permanent stage, not a one-time import.
Step 5: Add inventory, order and fulfillment synchronization deliberately
SP-API can automate order processing, shipment tracking, payment management, inventory levels, product listings and pricing, but an application receives only the operations and permissions it implements. Add one business flow at a time.
Inventory
Choose the inventory authority before enabling updates. If WooCommerce is authoritative, publish available-to-sell quantity to Amazon after reserving stock for unpaid or pending orders. If another warehouse system is authoritative, feed both channels from that system rather than allowing WooCommerce and Amazon to overwrite one another. Define behavior for zero stock, backorders, safety buffers and simultaneous edits.
Orders
Decide whether Amazon orders are imported into WooCommerce as orders, passed directly to a fulfillment system or handled in a separate service. Map Amazon order IDs to immutable WooCommerce metadata, retain line-item SKUs and quantities, and make imports idempotent so a retry cannot create a duplicate order.
Shipment, cancellation and refund events
Record the state transitions your operation supports: accepted, packed, shipped, tracking supplied, cancelled, refunded or returned. Validate that a tracking number belongs to the carrier and shipment before confirming dispatch. Do not mark an order fulfilled merely because an import job ran successfully.

Pricing
Set an explicit pricing rule for taxes, currency conversion, minimum margins, sale periods and repricing. A two-way price loop can repeatedly overwrite values unless one system is authoritative and updates carry a source and timestamp.
Step 6: Test a controlled pilot before production
- Use Amazon’s sandbox to exercise authentication, request signing or headers, marketplace selection, validation errors and retry behavior.
- Choose a small production SKU set with reliable identifiers and uncomplicated fulfillment.
- Compare WooCommerce records with Amazon after each create, update, stock and order operation. Check titles, images, variations, prices, quantities and buyability manually.
- Force safe failure cases: remove a required attribute, use an invalid quantity, expire a token and trigger a duplicate job. Confirm that the connector reports the error and can recover without creating duplicates.
- Only then expand the catalog, marketplaces and automation schedule. Keep a rollback plan that can pause outbound updates without deleting valid Amazon listings.
Security and ongoing operations
- Access control: Restrict WordPress administrator privileges and separate store editing from integration administration where possible.
- Secrets: Store LWA credentials, refresh tokens and signing material in a secrets manager or protected server configuration, not in page content or screenshots.
- Observability: Log timestamps, operation names, marketplace IDs, SKUs, response codes, Amazon request IDs and retry counts. Redact tokens, customer addresses and payment details.
- Rate limits: Use queued jobs, exponential backoff and bounded retries. A retry that ignores throttling can turn a temporary limit into a longer outage.
- Change management: Review Amazon SP-API deprecations and model changes, WooCommerce releases and extension updates in a staging environment before production deployment.
- Reconciliation: Run periodic comparisons of listing status, stock, open orders and shipment state. A successful API response does not prove that the customer-facing offer is correct.
Common failures and fixes
“I can install a payment plugin, but no products appear on Amazon.”
Amazon Payment Services’ WooCommerce plugin is for accepting payments in supported markets. It requires WooCommerce, WordPress administrator access, a test account and SSL, but it is not a Marketplace catalog or order-synchronization connector. Use an SP-API application or a connector extension for listings.
Authorization succeeds, but calls fail
Check that the token belongs to the intended seller, the operation is permitted, the endpoint region matches the marketplace ID and the request includes the required access-token, date and user-agent headers. Inspect the stored request ID and response body rather than repeatedly retrying the same request.
Listings are created but suppressed or not buyable
Review product-type requirements, identifiers, condition, images, offer price, quantity, shipping and seller eligibility. Creation is only the first lifecycle stage; maintenance issues can appear after submission.
Stock or orders duplicate
Check whether scheduled jobs overlap, whether webhook or polling events are processed more than once and whether each record has an immutable external ID. Add idempotency checks and a single authority for quantity and order status.
Only some countries work
Marketplace permissions, product eligibility, language and endpoint families differ by region. Configure each marketplace explicitly instead of assuming that authorization in one country covers every Amazon site.
When a WordPress-to-Amazon connection is worth it
Use a full integration when Amazon is a managed sales channel and the time saved on stock, order and listing work exceeds the cost of setup and monitoring. Start with an extension when your catalog and fulfillment rules are conventional and the vendor demonstrates current compatibility. Choose a custom application when data ownership, unusual schemas, multiple marketplaces, custom fulfillment or detailed auditability are central to the business. If you only need readers to click through to Amazon, skip SP-API and build the simpler content-and-link experience instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I connect a WordPress site without WooCommerce?
Yes, for ordinary content or referral links. A synchronized Marketplace operation needs a commerce data layer such as WooCommerce or another system that can supply SKUs, offers, inventory and orders.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo I need SP-API credentials for every Amazon country?
You need seller authorization and a marketplace-aware configuration for each marketplace you operate. Endpoint region, marketplace ID and granted permissions must be validated separately rather than assumed from one country’s setup.
Should Amazon or WooCommerce be the source of truth for stock?
Choose one authority before enabling automation. Document how reservations, backorders, safety stock and simultaneous edits are resolved, then reject or quarantine conflicting updates instead of allowing an uncontrolled overwrite.
What is the safest way to launch a large catalog?
Test in the SP-API sandbox, pilot a small representative production set, reconcile every listing and order flow, and expand in batches with a pause mechanism and a rollback plan.
