Wireless rear speakers and a subwoofer connect to a compatible Sony soundbar or home-theatre system—not automatically to any TV with “BRAVIA” in its name. Check the exact audio-system model and accessory compatibility first, then use BRAVIA Connect or that system’s model-specific Help Guide to add the speakers. Update the system before pairing. If you mean speakers connected directly to the TV over Wi-Fi, that is a separate setup route.
First identify what the speakers need to connect to
A BRAVIA TV, a BRAVIA Theatre soundbar, and an older Sony home-theatre system are distinct devices. The optional rear speakers and subwoofer discussed here pair with the compatible audio system. The TV model alone does not tell you which accessories that soundbar or system supports.
Find the model number on the soundbar or system itself, its packaging, or its settings/support information. Then look up that exact model in Sony’s optional-speaker compatibility list. Compatibility varies between systems, and Sony notes that products may not be sold in every country or region. Do not assume that a speaker supported by one BRAVIA Theatre model will work with another.

Also check the accessory’s complete model number. “Wireless rear speakers” and “subwoofer” describe product roles, not universal connection standards: a Sony accessory still needs to be listed as compatible with your specific system. If you are shopping for both types, verify each model separately; a rear-speaker listing does not automatically confirm subwoofer support, and vice versa.

Check compatibility before buying or pairing
Sony’s compatibility information covers newer BRAVIA Connect-compatible products as well as older devices that use their own software and Help Guide instructions. It lists BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7, Bar 8, Bar 9, Theatre Quad, and Theatre Trio among systems compatible with the app. That does not mean they all use the same optional speakers; check each system’s entry in Sony’s list.
For one specific example, Sony states that the HT-S2000 is compatible with the SA-RS3S rear speakers and SA-SW3 or SA-SW5 subwoofers. Those model numbers apply to the HT-S2000 example, not to every BRAVIA Theatre system. Sony’s HT-S2000 support article was modified on January 21, 2026. For any other soundbar or system, use its own compatibility listing rather than extrapolating from this one.
Compatibility is the first buying requirement. Do not substitute a visually similar Sony speaker, assume that a newer accessory is backward-compatible, or rely on a retailer category labelled “wireless rear speaker.” The model number in Sony’s list is the authority for the system you own. If a product is unavailable in your country, check the regional Sony site before ordering; Sony says not every model is sold in every region.

Update the system before connecting optional speakers
Sony advises updating the soundbar, home-theatre system, AV amplifier, or AV receiver to its latest firmware before adding optional speakers. Its compatibility guidance makes the update part of connection preparation, and its connection troubleshooting article, modified June 8, 2026, directs owners to the right instructions for app-supported and older systems.
Follow the update instructions for your exact model. Sony notes that some manuals recommend completing initial setup without optional speakers, updating the system, and then adding the speakers. If your manual gives that sequence, use it rather than trying to connect the accessories during initial setup. An update should be treated as a prerequisite, not merely a troubleshooting step after pairing fails.

Keep the system powered as instructed during the update and wait for the update process to finish before opening the speaker-connection procedure. The exact update screen, download method, and menu wording vary by product, so use the model’s own support page rather than instructions for a different Theatre bar.
Connect a BRAVIA Connect-compatible system
For systems that require BRAVIA Connect, use the app to complete the optional-speaker connection. Install or update the app, follow its connection flow for your soundbar or system, and choose the option to connect speakers. Sony’s documented example for the HT-S2000 is Easy Initial Setup → Speaker Connection. Sony says this route can also be used after the soundbar has already been set up.
- Confirm the system and accessories. Check the exact system model and ensure each accessory is listed as compatible with it. If you have both rear speakers and a subwoofer, verify both model numbers.
- Update first. Install the latest system software using the model’s update instructions. If the manual says to do initial setup without the speakers, follow that order.
- Open BRAVIA Connect. Make sure the app is installed or updated, then follow its prompts to connect to the audio system.
- Open the speaker connection flow. For Sony’s HT-S2000 example, use Easy Initial Setup → Speaker Connection. For other systems, follow the app’s displayed flow for that model.
- Connect the optional speakers when prompted. Keep the speakers available and powered as the app directs, and complete the pairing sequence for each accessory rather than assuming one successful connection adds every device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. Complete the app’s prompts for the optional speakers and check that the system recognizes them. Exact screens and labels can change, so treat Sony’s documented path as model-specific guidance rather than a permanent menu guarantee.
- Confirm the result. Check the app or system information to make sure the intended rear speakers and subwoofer appear as connected. If one accessory is missing, return to the compatibility and update checks before repeating the connection flow.
Connect a system that does not use BRAVIA Connect
Not every Sony soundbar or home-theatre system uses the app. For a system without BRAVIA Connect support, Sony directs users to install the latest software and follow the model’s Help Guide. Use the guide for the exact unit; do not apply the HT-S2000 app path to an older system just because the accessory is wireless.
- Look up the audio-system model in Sony’s compatibility information and verify each accessory model.
- Update the system software as directed for that model.
- Open the system’s Help Guide and find the instructions for connecting optional rear speakers or a subwoofer.
- Complete the connection steps in that guide. If it specifies an initial setup without optional speakers, update, and then add them, follow that sequence.
- Check the system’s status or speaker-information screen to confirm that the accessory was accepted. Use the guide’s reset or retry procedure if it reports an incomplete connection.
If you are unsure which route applies, Sony’s optional-speaker connection troubleshooting guidance distinguishes systems that use BRAVIA Connect from older systems that rely on their model-specific instructions. The app route and the legacy Help Guide route are alternatives, not interchangeable steps.
Do not confuse soundbar pairing with direct-to-TV Wi-Fi
Sony separately documents an arrangement in which certain rear speakers or subwoofers connect directly to a compatible BRAVIA TV over Wi-Fi. That is not the same as pairing optional speakers with a BRAVIA Theatre soundbar or home-theatre system. In a Theatre setup, the audio system is the connection point; in the direct-TV arrangement, the compatible television is the connection point.

If the intended connection is unclear, identify both the TV model and the audio-system model, and decide which device should be the speakers’ connection point before following setup instructions. A TV carrying the BRAVIA name does not prove that it supports direct Wi-Fi speakers, just as a Theatre bar does not prove that it supports every BRAVIA accessory.
Sony’s FAQ about speakers connected directly to a BRAVIA TV via Wi-Fi was modified May 28, 2026. Use it for the direct-TV arrangement; use the instructions for your audio system when the speakers are meant to pair with the soundbar or theatre system.
Fix connection failures and wireless dropouts
If the speakers will not connect
- Recheck the model numbers. Confirm both the audio system and each optional speaker are listed as compatible; do not rely on a similar product name.
- Update the audio system. Install the latest software before trying again.
- Use the right instructions. Use BRAVIA Connect where required; otherwise, follow the exact model’s Help Guide. If the system’s setup sequence says to add speakers only after initial setup and an update, follow that order.
- Resolve the TV-versus-system ambiguity. Check whether the speakers should connect to the soundbar/system or directly to a compatible TV, since Sony provides separate instructions for those arrangements.
- Check one accessory at a time. If you are adding rear speakers and a subwoofer together, identify which device fails instead of treating the whole setup as one problem. The exact model and accessory type determine the next Help Guide step.
- Use current regional support information. If a model appears on one country’s site but not another, verify local availability and instructions rather than assuming a regional difference is a hardware fault.
If sound skips or becomes noisy after pairing
A successful connection does not guarantee a clear wireless signal in every room. Sony identifies an obstructed path between the audio system and optional speakers, as well as wireless settings, as possible contributors to dropouts or noise.
- Review the wireless-speaker settings available on your system, including playback quality.
- If your model exposes a wireless-channel setting, review that setting as Sony recommends.
- Check whether a wall or other obstruction lies between the system and speaker, then try a clearer placement.
- Sony’s troubleshooting guidance suggests moving a speaker more than 5 cm (2 in) from a side wall, or more than 10 cm (4 in) from a rear wall when the side cannot be cleared. These are placement suggestions, not guaranteed fixes for every room.
- Test after each placement or setting change so you can tell whether the wireless environment improved. If the issue persists, record whether it affects one accessory or all connected speakers before consulting Sony’s model-specific support.
For the applicable model-specific controls and placement guidance, see Sony’s troubleshooting article for skipped sound or speaker noise. Its measurements are practical starting points, not a promise that every room will behave identically.
What to have ready when you ask for help
If the connection still fails, provide Sony support with the exact audio-system model, the complete model number of each optional speaker, and whether you are trying to connect through BRAVIA Connect, a model-specific Help Guide, or directly to the TV. Include the system’s software status and whether the problem is failure to pair or sound that drops out after pairing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can any Sony wireless rear speaker work with a Sony BRAVIA Theatre system?
No. Sony compatibility is model-specific. Check the exact Theatre or soundbar model and match the accessory’s complete model number in Sony’s optional-speaker list.
Does my BRAVIA TV model determine which rear speakers or subwoofer I can use?
No. The TV name alone does not establish compatibility with a Theatre system. Identify the audio-system model; direct-to-TV Wi-Fi speakers are a separate arrangement with separate requirements.
Do I need BRAVIA Connect to add optional speakers?
Only if your system is one of the BRAVIA Connect-compatible models. Older systems use updated software and their own model-specific Help Guide instead.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I update the soundbar before pairing?
Yes. Sony advises updating the soundbar, home-theatre system, AV amplifier, or receiver before connecting optional speakers. Some manuals require initial setup without the speakers, followed by the update and speaker connection.

Which optional speakers work with the HT-S2000?
Sony lists SA-RS3S rear speakers and SA-SW3 or SA-SW5 subwoofers for the HT-S2000. Do not apply that list to another Theatre model without checking its own compatibility entry.
Can the speakers connect directly to my BRAVIA TV instead of the soundbar?
Sony documents direct Wi-Fi connection for certain compatible TV and speaker combinations. Use that separate procedure only when the TV is intended to be the connection point; otherwise follow the Theatre system’s setup instructions.
What should I try when sound drops out after pairing?
Review playback-quality and, where available, wireless-channel settings. Check for obstructions and try moving the speaker more than 5 cm from a side wall or more than 10 cm from a rear wall when the side cannot be cleared.
