To connect two subwoofers, first check the receiver’s subwoofer outputs and each sub’s available inputs and outputs. If the receiver supports two subs, connect one to each output and configure the receiver as its manual directs. With one compatible line-level output, an RCA Y-splitter can feed both subs; a suitable line-level output on the first sub may also pass the signal to the second.
Before choosing a connection, check the equipment
Look in the receiver or preamp manual for the number and function of its subwoofer outputs. Then check both subwoofer manuals for compatible line-level inputs and any pass-through outputs. The terminal labels and supported configurations vary by model, so do not assume that two receiver jacks provide independent control or that a subwoofer output can feed another sub.
- Count the receiver’s subwoofer or subwoofer pre-out connections.
- Identify the input on each subwoofer that accepts the receiver’s signal, such as an LFE or compatible RCA line-level input.
- If considering a daisy-chain, confirm that the first sub has a suitable line-level output and that its connection type matches the second sub’s input.
For a typical single-sub connection, Klipsch identifies the receiver’s SUB, SUB OUT, or SUB PREOUT and the powered subwoofer’s L/LFE input, connected with a standard RCA or subwoofer cable. That guidance describes one subwoofer, so verify the manuals for a two-sub arrangement: Klipsch’s subwoofer connection guide.
Choose the wiring method that fits your receiver
Two receiver subwoofer outputs
If your receiver supports two subwoofers, connect one sub to each output and use the receiver’s setup menu as directed in its manual. The number of outputs alone does not tell you whether the receiver offers separate adjustment for each sub.

For example, the Denon AVR-X4500H manual instructs users to configure “2 spkrs” and provides separate level and distance settings for each subwoofer. In contrast, Onkyo says the TX-SR494 can connect up to two powered subwoofers, with the same signal on both SUBWOOFER PRE OUT jacks. These model-specific examples show why you should check the manual for your exact receiver rather than infer its controls from the number of jacks.
Sony’s support guidance likewise notes that the covered stereo receiver requires a second subwoofer output for a two-subwoofer connection: Sony’s two-subwoofer connection article.

One receiver line-level subwoofer output
An RCA Y-splitter can divide one subwoofer line-level output between two compatible subwoofers. Connect the receiver’s output to the splitter, then run a cable from each splitter branch to a subwoofer input. Confirm that the receiver output, splitter, cables, and both sub inputs are compatible before connecting them.

If the first subwoofer has a suitable line-level output, it may be able to pass the signal to the second. Match the terminal types—for example, an RCA input to an RCA output—and consult both subwoofer manuals to confirm the output is intended for this use. A subwoofer’s presence in the chain does not by itself establish that it passes the correct signal onward.

SVS describes both a Y-splitter and a compatible subwoofer-to-subwoofer connection as options when there are more subs than receiver outputs. Its setup guidance also stresses matching the input and output terminal types: SVS multiple-subwoofer setup guidance.
What two outputs do—and do not—guarantee
Two subwoofer outputs can make connecting two subs straightforward, but they do not guarantee independently adjustable signals. The Denon AVR-X4500H manual documents separate level and distance settings for its two subs; Onkyo documents the same signal on both SUBWOOFER PRE OUT connections for the TX-SR494. For other receivers, check the model’s manual for signal routing, configuration options, and available adjustments.

Configure and calibrate both subwoofers
After connecting the cables, follow the receiver’s setup menu and the subwoofer manuals. Select the supported two-sub configuration where applicable, then use the receiver’s calibration process and any available per-sub level or distance controls. Menu names and adjustment options differ by receiver.
Do not assume that identical settings will suit both subs. Their positions in the room can affect how they perform, so calibrate each for its placement. SVS’s SB-3000 R|Evolution manual says settings should be similar, but each sub will probably need calibration for optimal performance because of its unique room placement.
Quick Recap
Troubleshoot a two-subwoofer connection
- No sound from either sub: Recheck that the receiver output is a subwoofer line-level output, that the receiver is configured to use it, and that the cables reach the subs’ compatible inputs.
- Only one sub plays: Check each cable and input separately, then verify that the receiver’s second output or the splitter branch is connected as intended.
- A daisy-chain does not pass signal: Confirm that the first sub’s jack is a line-level output suitable for onward connection, and match its terminal type to the second sub’s input.
- Both play but adjustment differs from expectations: Check whether the receiver provides independent settings or sends the same signal to both outputs; output count alone is not enough to determine this.
- Results are uneven after setup: Re-run calibration and account for each sub’s room position instead of assuming a shared setting is optimal.
