You can join an Arma Reforger server in two ways: find it in Multiplayer > Community, or use Direct Join with the server’s IPv4 address and UDP port. The official server documentation lists 2001 UDP as the default game port, but a hosted server may use another port. Always use the address and port supplied by the server owner.
Choose the right connection method
Your choice depends on whether the server is published in the community list and what information you have.

For a public community server, try the browser first. For a private, hidden, newly configured, or missing server, Direct Join is the practical fallback.
Join through the Community server browser
Step 1: Open the community list
- Launch Arma Reforger and open Multiplayer.
- Select the Community tab.
- Use the search field to enter the server name, or a distinctive part of it.
- Select the matching server from the results and choose the join option.
The exact labels can change with a game update; the menu path above is described by current hosting-provider guides rather than a full client-side Bohemia guide.

Step 2: Enter the join password
If the server has a password, the game asks for it while connecting. Enter the server’s join password exactly as supplied. A server’s admin password is a different credential and will not authorize a normal player connection.
Step 3: Wait for the connection and content checks
Allow the game to complete its connection and any required content or mod checks. If the server rejects you with a version error, update or otherwise bring your game installation to the same version as the server before trying again.

Use Arma Reforger Direct Join
Direct Join is the method to use when you already know where the server is hosted or when it does not appear in the browser.
Information to obtain first
- IPv4 address: the public address supplied by the server owner or hosting panel.
- UDP port: 2001 is the official default game port, but the owner may have selected another value.
- Join password: only if the server is protected.
Do not substitute a web address, RCON port, or query port for the game’s connection port. If the owner gives you a non-default port, that value takes precedence over 2001.

Direct Join steps
- Open Multiplayer.
- Choose Community.
- Select Direct Join.
- Enter the server’s IPv4 address.
- Enter the supplied port. Use
2001only when the owner has not specified a different game port. - Submit the connection. Enter the join password when prompted.
A Direct Join attempt can fail even when the address is correct if the UDP port is blocked, the server is offline, or a firewall or forwarding rule points to the wrong destination.
Which port does an Arma Reforger server use?
The official Bohemia server configuration documentation identifies 2001 UDP as the default public game port. That is a default, not a guarantee for every hosted instance. Hosting examples use other values, and a server owner’s panel or configuration is authoritative for that server.

The documentation advises leaving bindPort out of the configuration in ordinary setups so it follows publicPort. A custom bind value is intended for specific port-forwarding arrangements. A startup parameter named -bindPort overrides the relevant configured bind values, so an owner may need to check the launch command as well as the configuration file.
The setting was previously named gameHostBindPort before version 0.9.8.73. If you are maintaining an older configuration, check the version-specific name rather than assuming a current key is recognized.

Why a server is missing from the browser
The server is intentionally hidden
The server configuration contains a visible flag. A server that is not published as visible will not be discoverable in the Community list. Ask the owner to verify that visibility is enabled, or use Direct Join with the server’s address and port.
The listing has not registered correctly
A visible server still needs to register with the backend and be reachable from outside its host network. The owner should check that the public port is correct and that the host firewall and router forward the required UDP traffic to the game server.
You are searching for the wrong name
Search for a distinctive fragment of the configured server name rather than relying on punctuation or capitalization. If the owner recently renamed the server, request the current name or use Direct Join.
The game versions differ
A server can be online yet reject your connection when its game version differs from the client’s. The client and server must run the same game version. Update the game, restart it, and try again after the owner confirms the server has completed its own update.

Server-side settings that control joining
If you administer the server, these settings determine whether players can discover and enter it.
Game and public ports
bindPortis the UDP port bound by the server process. Its documented default is 2001 and its valid range is 1–65535.publicPortis the UDP port announced to the backend. With a public IP, it should normally matchbindPort; with network address translation, it represents the externally forwarded port.- The official port guidance lists 2001 UDP for the public game port, 17777 for A2S, and 19999 for RCON.
- The command-line option
-bindPorttakes precedence over bothgameHostBindPortandgameHostRegisterBindPortvalues in configuration.
For a normal installation, avoid adding a custom bind value unless the network design requires it. If you do use one, ensure the router, firewall, public registration, and the value given to players all describe the same externally reachable port.

Password settings
game.passwordis the password required to join the server.game.passwordAdminis an administrator credential used with the in-game#logincommand. It does not replace the join password and cannot contain spaces.rcon.passwordis required for RCON to start, must contain at least three characters, and cannot contain spaces.
At least one hosted-server control panel restricts join passwords to alphanumeric characters without spaces or special characters. If a password supplied by the owner contains unsupported characters, ask the owner to check the host’s own rules rather than repeatedly retrying it.

Direct Join says the server cannot be reached
- Confirm that you entered an IPv4 address, not a local address intended only for computers on the owner’s network.
- Confirm the game port. Start with the owner’s value; use 2001 UDP only when no custom value was provided.
- Ask the owner to verify that the server process is running and listening on that port.
- Have the owner check host-firewall and router rules for the correct UDP port and destination.
- If the owner recently changed ports, obtain a fresh address-and-port pair and retry Direct Join.
The browser lists the server but joining fails
- Re-enter the join password carefully.
- Check that your client and the server have exactly the same game version.
- Ask whether the server has reached its player limit; the configured maximum can be anywhere from 1 to 128, with 64 as the documented default.
- Restart the game after an update so it is not using an older running client.
The game says the password is wrong
Make sure you are using game.password, the player join password. Do not use game.passwordAdmin or the RCON password. Passwords may be case-sensitive, and some hosting panels disallow spaces and special characters.

You see “Version mismatch”
This message means the client and server are not on the same game version. Update the client and ask the owner to update or restart the server. A player cannot solve a genuine server-side version difference by changing the port or password.
Could IPv6 be the problem?
One secondary guide states that IPv6 is unsupported, but that claim was not confirmed by an official page. The dependable procedure is to request an IPv4 address for Direct Join. Treat IPv6-only connection advice as unverified until Bohemia’s current documentation explicitly confirms support.
Information to request from a server owner
To avoid trial and error, ask for one message containing all of the following:
- Exact server name, if you plan to use the browser.
- Public IPv4 address.
- Game UDP port, including any non-default value.
- Join password, if required.
- Current game version or confirmation that the server is fully updated.
- Whether the server is intentionally hidden from the Community list.
That information separates client-side mistakes from server-side network problems. An admin password or RCON credential should not be shared as a substitute for the player join password.
A quick decision checklist
- Server visible and name known: use Multiplayer > Community and search for it.
- Server hidden or absent: request the IPv4 address and game port, then use Community > Direct Join.
- No port supplied: ask the owner whether the server uses the official 2001 UDP default before attempting a connection.
- Password prompt appears: enter the join password, not an admin or RCON password.
- Version mismatch appears: bring both client and server to the same game version.
- Timeout or unreachable error: have the owner verify UDP reachability, forwarding, firewall rules, and the externally published port.
What to remember
The browser is the easiest route when a server is visible; Direct Join is the reliable alternative when you have a server’s IPv4 address and game port. The official default is 2001 UDP, but the host’s configured and externally forwarded port overrides that default. Visibility, reachable UDP forwarding, matching game versions, and the separate join-password setting account for most connection problems.
