Godlike.Host offers hosted ARK: Survival Evolved servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To join an ARK server from the Epic Games Store version, launch ARK, select Join Game and search the appropriate unofficial-server list. If the server does not appear, start a single-player session, open the console with Tab, and enter open IP:PORT using the server’s game port, not its query port. The server must permit crossplay; Epic players cannot join a server configured for Steam-only access.
These steps are based on current third-party host documentation and community reports rather than an official Studio Wildcard or Epic guide. Menu names and crossplay behavior can change between ARK: Survival Ascended builds and ARK: Survival Evolved, so treat older Evolved-specific instructions as compatibility guidance to verify with the server administrator.

Before you try to connect
Have the following information ready from the server administrator:
- The server’s public IP address or hostname.
- The game port used for player connections. Do not substitute the query port shown in a hosting panel.
- The map and server name, if you plan to find it in the browser.
- Whether the server is configured for crossplay or Epic-only access.
- Whether a password is required.
- Whether the server uses BattlEye or another required client-side protection setting.
If you are joining a privately hosted server, the administrator also needs to expose the game port through the server’s router and firewall. A server can be running normally and still be unreachable from outside its local network when port forwarding or firewall rules are missing.

Method 1: Join through ARK’s server browser
The browser is the simplest route when the server is publicly listed and you know its name.
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and start ARK.
- At the main menu, choose Join Game.
- Open the Unofficial server category. Third-party host instructions use this tab for hosted servers, although the exact label can vary by game build.
- Search for the server name or scroll through the list. Check the map, player count and other identifying details so you do not select a similarly named server.
- Select the correct server and choose Join.
- If the game displays a password prompt, enter the password supplied by the administrator.
Browser results depend on the server advertising itself correctly and on the Epic client receiving the list. An absent result does not prove that the server is offline. Use the direct-IP method when the administrator has supplied an address, or ask the administrator to confirm that the server is visible to Epic clients.
What to check in the listing
- Server name: Confirm the spelling, punctuation and any prefixes used by the host.
- Map: A map mismatch can make a correctly named server look like the wrong one.
- Unofficial status: Hosted servers are generally listed outside the official-server category.
- Crossplay availability: A listing alone does not guarantee that Epic clients are allowed to connect.
Method 2: Connect directly with the console
Direct connection is useful when the server does not appear in the list but you have its network address. It requires starting a single-player session first.
- From the main menu, open Host / Local and choose Play Single Player. Some builds present these choices with slightly different wording.
- Allow the single-player game to load.
- Press Tab to open the console.
- Type
open IP:PORT, replacingIPwith the server address andPORTwith the server’s game port. - Press Enter and wait for the connection attempt to complete.
For example, if an administrator gives you an address and game port, the command follows this shape: open 203.0.113.25:7777. The address in this example is only a syntax example; use the real address and port supplied for your server.

Game port versus query port
Hosting panels commonly show more than one port. The game port accepts player connections; the query port is used to report server information to browsers and monitoring tools. Third-party host guidance specifically warns to use the game port, not the query port. That guidance also describes a game port ending in 5 in some configurations, but the number is not universal. Copy the port identified by the host as the player or game port rather than inferring it from a panel’s port list.
Does the direct command include a password?
Reports conflict. One host guide says a password can be appended after the address, while another says the Epic version did not support joining password-protected servers directly at the time that guide was written. Because the command syntax and support can differ by game edition and build, do not assume a password suffix will work. Try the browser’s password prompt first. If the server requires a password and the direct command fails, ask the administrator whether Epic clients are currently supported and which connection method they have tested.

An Epic installation cannot join every ARK server. The server must allow crossplay between the Epic client and the platform on which it is hosted.
Crossplay must be enabled
Third-party documentation states that Epic players can connect only when the server permits crossplay. If a host has disabled cross-platform access, changing your client’s browser filters or entering the IP manually will not solve the problem; the administrator must change the server configuration or provide an Epic-compatible instance.

Epic-only configurations
Some hosted control panels expose an Epic Only option. That setting is intended to restrict access to Epic Games Store players, but the exact label and location depend on the host panel. Ask the administrator to confirm that the setting is active and that the server has been restarted if the panel requires a restart for configuration changes.
Legacy Evolved launch arguments
A 2020 Steam community post about ARK: Survival Evolved lists -crossplay to enable crossplay on a dedicated server and -epiconly to allow only Epic Games Store players. These arguments are Evolved-era information, not confirmed instructions for ARK: Survival Ascended. Do not add them blindly to an Ascended server. The administrator should check the current dedicated-server documentation or hosting panel for the edition and build being used.
Which connection method should you use?

Use the browser first for a public server. Switch to direct connection when the listing is missing, when the host has given you a fixed address, or when you need to distinguish a listing problem from a network problem.
Port forwarding and firewall requirements
Direct connection works only if the server can accept traffic from the internet. For a server behind a home or office router, the administrator must forward the ARK game port to the machine running the server. The operating system firewall and any security appliance must also allow inbound traffic on that port.

What the administrator should verify
- The forwarded destination is the server machine’s current local IP address.
- The external port given to players matches the port configured for the game service.
- The firewall rule allows the required protocol and port for ARK’s server process.
- The public address has not changed since the connection details were sent.
- The server is listening on the expected interface rather than only on localhost.
Players on the same local network may be able to connect even when remote players cannot. That pattern usually points to routing, port forwarding or firewall exposure rather than an Epic account problem.

Refresh and narrow the search
Unofficial lists can omit servers or take time to update. Restart ARK, return to Join Game, select the unofficial category again and search the exact name. Remove filters that could hide a crossplay server, then reapply only the filters you need.

Ask the administrator to confirm crossplay
If the server is visible to Steam players but not to Epic players, the first server-side check is crossplay permission. Epic clients require a crossplay-enabled configuration. An Epic-only option may also be available in a hosted panel, but its presence does not prove that the current server process was restarted with the setting.
Try the known address and the correct port
Use the console command from the direct-connection procedure with the game port. A query port can identify a server in a monitoring tool while still rejecting a player connection, so substituting it produces a misleading timeout.

Check BattlEye and client protection filters
A community troubleshooting thread recommends checking whether the server runs BattlEye. The same report says the client’s protected-server and password-display options may be off by default. Review the relevant filters and protection settings in the server browser, then restart the search. These are community-reported remedies rather than guaranteed fixes, and the names or locations of options may change between builds.
Interpret a timeout
A timeout can mean that the address is wrong, the game port is closed, the firewall is blocking traffic, the server is restarting, or the client and server are incompatible. Have the administrator test the game port from outside the server’s network and confirm that the process is listening. If only Epic players time out while other crossplay clients connect, return to the crossplay and Epic-access settings rather than repeatedly changing your console command.
Troubleshooting password-protected servers
Password behavior is the least certain part of Epic connectivity. A current-looking in-game flow may show a password prompt, while an older host article says the Epic version could not join password-protected servers directly. Those reports cannot be reconciled into a universal rule without testing the specific edition and build.
- Prefer the browser route when the server displays a password prompt.
- Confirm the password has not changed and copy it exactly, including capitalization.
- Ask whether the administrator has tested an Epic client, not only a Steam client.
- If direct IP is required, ask the administrator for the exact syntax supported by the current build rather than guessing a password suffix.
If a password-protected server works for one platform but not Epic, the restriction may be an edition or server-configuration limitation rather than an incorrect password.
ARK: Survival Evolved versus ARK: Survival Ascended
Many online instructions use the name ARK without specifying the edition. That matters here. Host guidance for the in-game browser describes the Ascended flow, while the crossplay launch arguments cited in community discussions come from Evolved-era material published in 2020. The two editions should not be assumed to share identical menu labels, command handling, launch arguments or password behavior.
When asking for help, include the edition shown in your Epic library, the game version or build number if visible, the server’s edition, and whether the server is dedicated or hosted through a panel. This information lets the administrator avoid applying an Evolved fix to an Ascended server or vice versa.
A practical connection checklist
- Confirm that you and the server are running the same ARK edition.
- Obtain the exact server name, public address and game port.
- Ask whether crossplay is enabled and whether Epic-only access is configured.
- Try Join Game and the unofficial category.
- If the listing is missing, start a single-player session and run
open IP:PORTfrom the Tab console. - Use the game port, not the query port.
- If the connection times out, have the administrator verify forwarding, firewall access and server status from an external network.
- If a password is required, use the browser prompt when available and treat direct password syntax as build-dependent.
- If BattlEye or protected-server filters are involved, check the client settings and ask the administrator which protection the server requires.
What to send the server administrator when asking for help
A useful support request includes the Epic Games Store edition, your ARK build, the exact server name, the address and game port you tried, the connection method, and the complete error message. Say whether the server appears for other players, whether it appears in the unofficial list, and whether the failure is an immediate rejection or a timeout. This separates listing, authentication, crossplay and network problems without requiring the administrator to guess what you changed.
