Xbox does not consistently provide a working Add Server field for entering a Bedrock server address. The dependable alternatives are to route Minecraft through BedrockConnect with a manual DNS setting, or to use Bedrock Together to announce the server as a local game from a phone on the same Wi-Fi network. Your server must be running Bedrock Edition and reachable on its Bedrock transport port, normally UDP 19132 for IPv4.
This guide covers both connection methods, the server-side network settings that make them work, what to do when the server does not appear, and the version caveat around the newer NetherNet transport.
What you need before you connect
Gather these details before changing any Xbox setting:
- A Bedrock Edition server. An Xbox Bedrock client cannot join a Java Edition-only server. The server software must accept Bedrock connections.
- The server address and port. Use the numeric IP and port shown in the server host’s control panel. Do not assume that a website address, custom domain, or Java connection address will work.
- An Xbox account that can play multiplayer. Xbox privacy and family-safety settings can block multiplayer even when the network is configured correctly.
- A stable network path. BedrockConnect works over the console’s internet connection. Bedrock Together requires the phone and Xbox to be on the same local Wi-Fi network.
- A server that is actually online. A powered-off server, a stopped world, a full server, or a firewall that drops the Bedrock port will look like a failed Xbox connection.
Write the address in the form 203.0.113.25 and the port separately, for example 19132. If the host supplied a different port, use that value; do not replace it with the default.

Choose the connection method

Use BedrockConnect if the server is remote or the phone and console cannot share a LAN. Use Bedrock Together when both devices are on the same ordinary home network and you want to avoid changing DNS.
Method 1: connect with BedrockConnect on Xbox
BedrockConnect uses a DNS redirect so that a Featured Server entry opens a custom screen. You then enter your own server’s IP address and port. The DNS values are third-party service endpoints and can change, so check the service’s current instructions if one of the addresses no longer responds.
1. Open the Xbox DNS settings
- Press the Xbox button and open Profile & system > Settings.
- Choose General > Network settings.
- Open Advanced settings > DNS settings.
- Select Manual.
Do not alter the IP address, subnet mask, or gateway. Only the DNS fields are needed.
2. Enter a BedrockConnect DNS address
Enter one primary address and a secondary resolver. The addresses reported for this service are:

For the secondary DNS, the documented example is 8.8.8.8. If the selected BedrockConnect endpoint is unavailable, try another current endpoint rather than repeatedly changing other Xbox network values.

3. Save and test the network
Confirm the DNS entries, let Xbox run its network test, and return to Minecraft. A successful Xbox network test only proves that the console can reach the internet; it does not prove that the Bedrock server itself is online.

4. Open the redirect screen in Minecraft
- Start Minecraft Bedrock and open the Servers tab.
- Select any Featured Server.
- Choose the option labeled Connect to a Server or the equivalent custom-server entry shown after the redirect.
- Enter the server’s numeric IP address and port. The usual Bedrock default is
19132, but a host may use another port. - Submit the form and wait for the world list or connection screen.
In this flow, Bedrock does not resolve a custom domain or an SRV record for you. Copy the IP displayed in the host panel. If the host gives you a domain such as play.example.net, ask the host for the underlying Bedrock IP and port instead.
5. Restore normal DNS when you are finished
- Return to Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings.
- Choose Automatic.
- Run the network test again, then restart Minecraft if the Featured Server list still shows the redirect screen.
Restoring Automatic removes the BedrockConnect dependency for every other Xbox app. You can switch back to Manual only when you need this connection route.
Method 2: connect with Bedrock Together over the same Wi-Fi
Bedrock Together uses a companion phone app to advertise your remote server to Minecraft as a LAN game. It does not require a DNS change, but local-network isolation will prevent it from working.
1. Put both devices on the same local network
- Connect the Xbox to your normal home Wi-Fi or wired home network.
- Connect the phone to that same router and Wi-Fi name.
- Disable mobile data temporarily if the phone might route the app outside Wi-Fi.
A guest SSID, hotel network, school network, or router setting that isolates wireless clients can make the devices appear connected to the same internet service while still preventing local discovery. The app cannot bridge that isolation.

2. Enter the server endpoint in the app
- Open Bedrock Together on the phone.
- Enter the server’s numeric IP address in the address field.
- Enter the Bedrock port in the port field; use the host’s value rather than assuming
19132. - Start the app’s transfer, broadcast, or connect action.
Keep the app open and leave the phone awake. Switching to another app, locking the screen, or allowing the operating system to suspend the app can stop the LAN advertisement before Xbox sees it.
3. Join the advertised game on Xbox
- Open Minecraft and choose Play.
- Select the Worlds tab.
- Look for the server as a joinable LAN game.
- Select it and choose Join.
The entry may take a few seconds to appear after the transfer starts. If it disappears, return to the phone app, start the transfer again, and keep the app in the foreground while joining.
Server-side settings that must be correct
An Xbox workaround cannot repair a server that is listening on the wrong interface, using the wrong edition, or blocked at the router. Check these items on the machine or hosting panel running the server.
Use Bedrock networking, not Java networking
Bedrock Dedicated Server traditionally uses UDP, whereas Java Edition uses TCP. A firewall rule or port-forward rule that permits only TCP will not accept a normal Bedrock connection.

The defaults are not guarantees. A host can change the port in server.properties, and some managed hosts assign a non-default port. The value entered in BedrockConnect or Bedrock Together must match the active listener exactly.

Forward UDP through the router and firewall
For a server inside your home, create a router port-forward from the external UDP port to the server computer’s fixed local IP address and the same internal UDP port. Permit that UDP port in the computer’s firewall. A TCP-only rule, a forward to the wrong local machine, or a changing DHCP address will produce a timeout even when the server console says it is running.
For a hosted server, the provider normally controls the router. Check the provider’s allocation panel and firewall controls instead of creating a home-router rule.
Enable LAN discovery when using the phone method
If the server is intended to answer local discovery, check the enable-lan-visibility setting in the Bedrock configuration. A server can be reachable by its public IP while still failing to appear as a LAN game if discovery responses are disabled or filtered. Some console discovery reports use UDP 19132 specifically, so a non-default LAN port may require provider-specific support.
Use the correct address from outside the server network
Players joining from the internet need the host’s public address and forwarded port. Players on the same home network may need the server’s private address, depending on whether the router supports NAT loopback. Ask the host which address is intended for external players; testing a public address from inside a router that lacks loopback can look like a server failure when the server is healthy.

The Xbox has no usable “Add Server” field
This is normal on many Xbox Bedrock installations. Guides disagree because menus vary by version and some screenshots show interfaces from other platforms. Do not spend time looking for a hidden Java-style address box; use BedrockConnect or Bedrock Together. If your particular build genuinely displays an Add Server control, follow that screen and still use the Bedrock IP, UDP port, and server edition described above.

The Featured Server does not open a custom connection screen
- Confirm that DNS is set to Manual, not Automatic.
- Check the primary address for typing errors and try another current BedrockConnect endpoint.
- Restart Minecraft after saving DNS, and restart the Xbox if the old DNS result appears cached.
- Check whether the selected endpoint is experiencing an outage; the redirect service is independent of your server host.
The custom screen opens but the server times out
- Re-copy the numeric IP and port from the host panel.
- Confirm that the server process is running and that the world is accepting players.
- Verify a UDP forward and firewall rule, not just a TCP rule.
- Test from a different internet connection if possible. A successful test from another network distinguishes a local router or ISP issue from a server-side issue.
- Check that the server has not moved to a new public IP after a reboot or provider change.
The server never appears in the Worlds tab with Bedrock Together
- Ensure the phone and Xbox are on the same non-guest Wi-Fi network.
- Turn off mobile data and VPN features on the phone while testing.
- Disable client isolation or AP isolation on the router, if enabled.
- Keep the app open and the phone screen awake, then start the transfer again.
- Check
enable-lan-visibilityand the server’s local discovery behavior.
The LAN entry appears but joining fails
LAN appearance proves that the phone advertised an endpoint; it does not prove that the server port is reachable. Check the server’s actual listening port, local firewall, player limit, authentication settings, and whether the app contains the same IP and port that the server uses.
A friend cannot join through the Xbox friends list
A dedicated Bedrock server does not provide the Realms-style in-game invite path through Xbox friends. The friend must use one of the supported connection routes, or the server owner must provide a different service that has its own console integration. Adding someone as an Xbox friend does not create a route to an arbitrary dedicated server.

BedrockConnect’s custom entry expects an IP address and port and ignores the custom-domain and SRV-record behavior that may work in another client. Resolve the host name through the server panel and enter the resulting numeric address. If the address changes frequently, obtain the current value before each connection attempt.
Version and transport caveat
Bedrock networking is changing. The Bedrock protocol documentation describes NetherNet, a WebRTC-based transport used alongside legacy RakNet, and reports that NetherNet became the default transport for dedicated servers in version 26.50. That change is version-sensitive and may alter which ports, forwarding rules, or host-panel instructions apply to a particular server build.
Before changing a production server’s firewall or router, check the release notes for the exact Bedrock Dedicated Server version in use and follow the host’s current networking instructions. The traditional UDP defaults of 19132 for IPv4 and 19133 for IPv6 remain useful checks for servers using the legacy arrangement, but they should not be treated as universal requirements for every future build.
What a successful setup looks like
With BedrockConnect, the Xbox DNS test succeeds, a Featured Server opens the custom connection screen, and the manually entered numeric IP and port lead to the server’s world list. With Bedrock Together, both devices remain on the same local network, the phone keeps advertising the endpoint, and the server appears under Play > Worlds as a LAN game. In either case, the server log should show a Bedrock player connection, and the player should be able to load the world without relying on an Xbox friends-list invitation.
