The Beyerdynamic DT 275 PRO is a wired headphone with a 3.5 mm mini stereo plug. Connect that plug directly to a compatible headphone output, or attach the included 6.35 mm (1/4-inch) adapter when the source has a 6.35 mm headphone socket. If your computer or phone has no headphone jack, you need an audio adapter or interface designed for that exact device; USB-C and Lightning adapters are not universally interchangeable.
The detachable cable locks into either earcup, so you can place the cable on the left or right side. The headphones are specified at 45 ohms nominal impedance and 105 dB nominal sound pressure level, but those figures do not predict the volume every phone, computer, or interface will deliver.
Identify the plug, adapter, and headphone socket
Before connecting anything, look at both ends of the signal path. The DT 275 PRO cable terminates in a gold-vaporised 3.5 mm mini stereo plug. Beyerdynamic lists a 6.35 mm (1/4-inch) adapter in the box. That adapter changes the physical plug size; it does not convert a microphone input, line input, USB port, or digital output into a headphone output.

A socket that accepts the plug mechanically is not necessarily the right socket electrically. On an interface, recorder, camera, mixer, or computer, confirm the jack is labeled headphones, phones, or a headphone symbol. A microphone input, guitar input, line input, balanced output, or digital connector is a different connection.

Connection-relevant DT 275 PRO specifications

The 45-ohm impedance and 105 dB nominal sound-pressure specification are product figures from Beyerdynamic, not a guarantee of loudness on a particular source. They do not establish that every phone can drive the headphones to the same level, or that every setup requires a separate headphone amplifier. If the result is too quiet, investigate the host output capability and its settings rather than assuming the headphones are defective.
Connect the DT 275 PRO to a computer
Computer with a 3.5 mm headphone jack
- Locate the computer’s headphone output. On a laptop it is commonly a socket marked with headphones; on a desktop it may be on the front or rear panel.
- Set the computer volume to a low level before playback.
- Insert the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm plug fully into the headphone output. A partial insertion can produce one-sided or intermittent sound.
- Play a familiar audio track and raise the volume gradually.
- If the computer has separate speakers and headphones controls, open the operating system’s sound settings and select the connected headphone output as the playback device.
If the plug fits but the computer continues using built-in speakers, choose the headphone output manually in the system sound panel. Also check the application’s own output selection; music, video, meeting, and recording applications can each retain a different device choice.
Computer with a 6.35 mm headphone output
- Keep the computer’s output volume low.
- Screw or push the included 6.35 mm adapter onto the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm plug, according to the adapter’s design.
- Insert the assembled plug into the computer’s 6.35 mm headphone output.
- Confirm that the socket is a headphone output, then raise the level slowly.
The included adapter is already intended for this physical size, so it normally does not need to be purchased separately. Do not force it into a socket that is too small, and remove it before storing the headphones if its extra length puts strain on the computer jack.

Modern computers may expose audio only through USB, USB-C, a docking station, a monitor, or another digital connection. In that case, identify the computer’s available audio output and choose an adapter or audio interface that explicitly supports headphone audio for that computer and operating system. A USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter is a category of solution, not a universal guarantee: implementation and operating-system support vary by host.

- Check whether the computer’s USB-C port carries audio accessories and whether the manufacturer requires a particular adapter type.
- Connect the compatible adapter or interface to the computer.
- Connect the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm plug to the adapter’s headphone output, or use the included 6.35 mm adapter if the interface provides a 6.35 mm headphone jack.
- Open the computer’s sound settings and select the new USB or interface output.
- Test at low volume, then increase gradually.
If a USB-C adapter is detected for charging but not audio, it may not contain the required digital-to-analog audio hardware, or the port may not support the accessory. Check the adapter and computer documentation rather than repeatedly reconnecting the headphones.
Connect the DT 275 PRO to a phone
Phone with a 3.5 mm headphone jack
- Reduce the phone’s media volume.
- Plug the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm connector directly into the phone’s headphone output.
- Start playback and raise the volume in small steps.
- Confirm that the phone shows a headphone or wired-audio indicator if its operating system provides one.
If sound comes from the phone speaker, remove and reinsert the plug, check for lint in the socket, and verify that the app is not routing audio to a Bluetooth device. Do not use a microphone-only or charging accessory as a substitute for a headphone output.
Phone without a 3.5 mm jack
A phone without an analog headphone socket requires an audio adapter that matches its connector and operating system. Depending on the phone, that may be USB-C-to-3.5 mm, Lightning-to-3.5 mm, or another manufacturer-supported solution. The official DT 275 PRO product information does not establish one USB-C or Lightning adapter as compatible with every phone, so check the phone maker’s accessory requirements.
- Identify the phone’s physical port and whether it supports digital audio accessories.
- Obtain an adapter specifically described as providing a stereo headphone output for that phone.
- Connect the adapter to the phone before plugging in the headphones if the adapter instructions require that order.
- Insert the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm plug into the adapter’s headphone socket.
- Unlock the phone, start playback, and adjust volume carefully.
Some adapters include separate controls or a microphone path; those features are not required for listening. The essential requirement is a functioning stereo headphone output. If the phone reports that the accessory is unsupported, test the adapter with its documented compatible devices or consult the phone manufacturer.

Connect the DT 275 PRO to an audio interface
Beyerdynamic describes the DT 275 PRO for workflows involving cameras, recorders, interfaces, mixing consoles, and DJ mixers. The connection is straightforward when the equipment provides the right headphone output.
Interface with a 3.5 mm headphone output
- Turn the interface’s headphone level down.
- Insert the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm plug into the socket labeled headphones or phones.
- In the interface’s control software, select the desired monitor or playback mix if the device offers multiple headphone buses.
- Play audio and increase the headphone level slowly.
Interface with a 6.35 mm headphone output
- Attach the included 6.35 mm adapter to the DT 275 PRO plug.
- Insert it into the interface’s 6.35 mm headphone output.
- Set the interface’s headphone level low, start playback, and raise the level gradually.
Do not confuse headphone, line, and instrument outputs
A line output may use a 6.35 mm connector but is not the same as a headphone output. A line output can have a different level and monitoring behavior, and an instrument or microphone input is designed to receive a signal rather than drive headphones. Use the label and interface manual to identify the correct socket. If the interface has no headphone output, connect the headphones through a suitable headphone amplifier or another interface output explicitly designed for headphones.
Connect to a camera, recorder, mixer, or DJ mixer
The same plug-and-socket rule applies to other production equipment. Use the DT 275 PRO’s 3.5 mm plug with a compatible 3.5 mm headphone output, or the included adapter with a compatible 6.35 mm headphone output.
- Stop monitoring and lower the equipment’s headphone level.
- Confirm that the jack is an output intended for headphones.
- Connect the cable without twisting the plug or adapter.
- Resume playback or monitoring and increase the level in small increments.
Professional equipment may have separate cue, monitor, and program outputs. Select the output carrying the signal you actually need. A silent headphone output can therefore be a routing choice rather than a cable fault.

Attach the cable to either earcup
The headphone-side connector uses a locking bayonet mount. Beyerdynamic’s help information states that the cable can connect to either the left or right side.
- Align the cable connector with the socket on the chosen earcup.
- Insert it fully without forcing the connector at an angle.
- Twist or lock the bayonet mechanism as designed until the connection is secure.
- Route the cable so it does not pull sideways on the earcup.
- Before removing it, release the locking mechanism; do not yank the cable itself.
Using the opposite earcup can help keep the cable away from a camera control, instrument, or desk edge. Both sides provide the same basic headphone connection; the choice is about cable routing and working position.

Beyerdynamic lists its DJ 300 PRO X / Club connecting cable as fitting the DT 275 PRO. Check the headphone-side bayonet details and the source-side plug before ordering. A cable can be correct at the earcup but unsuitable for the equipment if its other end has the wrong plug.

- Verify the source-side connector: 3.5 mm for a standard headphone jack, or another plug only when your adapter or equipment requires it.
- Check cable length and routing needs.
- Inspect regional stock, because availability differs by market and changes over time.
To install the replacement, unlock and remove the old cable, insert the new connector into either earcup, lock the bayonet, and test both channels at low volume. If one channel remains silent, reseat the locking connector and inspect the plug and source socket.

Choose between multiple connection paths

Troubleshoot no sound, low volume, or one-sided audio
No sound at all
- Confirm the connector is fully inserted.
- Check that the host is sending audio to the wired output rather than speakers, Bluetooth, a monitor, or another interface.
- Verify that the socket is an output and specifically a headphone output.
- Test the headphones with another known-compatible headphone output.
- If using USB-C or Lightning, confirm that the adapter supports audio for the exact host device.
Sound is too quiet
- Raise the host’s headphone level gradually, checking that no application-level volume is low.
- Review the interface or mixer’s headphone mix and output assignment.
- Try a different compatible output to determine whether the limitation is source-specific.
- Do not infer required amplifier power from the 45-ohm specification alone; the product data does not establish a guaranteed volume for any particular device.
Only one earcup works
- Stop playback and reseat the 3.5 mm plug.
- If an adapter is fitted, remove and refit it firmly.
- Check that the bayonet connector is fully locked at the earcup.
- Try the other earcup connection, since the cable is designed to work on either side.
- Test another source to separate a host-socket fault from a cable or headphone fault.
Hum, crackle, or intermittent audio
- Keep the plug and adapter clean and fully seated.
- Reduce mechanical strain on the jack by routing the cable without sharp bends.
- Check whether moving the cable near the earcup changes the symptom; that can indicate a cable or connector problem.
- On an interface or mixer, verify that monitoring is not creating a feedback loop or overloaded signal path.
Volume and handling precautions
Start every new connection at low volume, especially when moving the headphones between a phone, computer, interface, or mixer. Outputs can have very different gain controls even when they use the same 3.5 mm or 6.35 mm connector. Increase only until listening is clear, and pause playback before changing adapters or moving the plug.
The 6.35 mm adapter is a mechanical size adapter, not a volume booster. Likewise, a USB-C or Lightning adapter may contain its own audio electronics, so its output behavior depends on that accessory and the host device. Keep the adapter and bayonet lock aligned; forcing either connection can damage the socket.
What the official information does and does not establish
Beyerdynamic’s product information confirms the connector, included adapter, cable flexibility, and intended professional workflows. Its help information confirms the locking bayonet and left/right earcup connection. The published specifications do not state the volume a particular laptop or phone will produce, and they do not prove that every setup needs or does not need a separate amplifier.
The Help Center lists the question “Is the DT 275 PRO compatible with smartphones, tablets or laptops?”, but the surfaced category entry does not provide a universal device list. For a phone or computer without a headphone jack, compatibility therefore has to be checked at the host and adapter level.
