To add physical verification to a real-world asset (RWA) platform, connect an off-chain inspection report to an on-chain claim, then define how the application responds to that claim. A token ledger can record ownership and a price oracle can supply market data, but neither can establish whether a building, vessel, or parcel remains in sound condition. PTVS v1.0 describes one way to bridge that gap; its claim hash can help detect altered report data, but cannot prove that an inspection was competent or its findings true.

What physical verification adds to an RWA platform

Aurelio Tamarit Blay frames the problem this way: “Your smart contract knows who owns the token, but it doesn’t know if the asset behind the token still exists.” That is the tutorial author’s explanation, not an independent technical finding. The tutorial asks how a platform can continuously prove the physical integrity of reserve assets; the practical answer is to incorporate evidence from an off-chain inspection process and make its status available to platform controls.

Ownership records and market-price inputs answer different questions from physical inspection. A ledger can record who holds a token, and an oracle can provide a price, but neither observes an off-chain asset. A physical-evidence process can supply findings for a platform to consider, but the quality of those findings depends on the inspection, the inspector, and how the evidence is governed.

How the PTVS evidence path works

The tutorial’s core flow links a structured inspection report to an on-chain claim that an application can query. The claim is a reference to evidence, not a substitute for the report or inspection.

  1. Inspect off-chain. Have an appropriate expert inspect the asset and prepare findings and a report. The inspection method, inspector qualifications, and evidence provenance matter: cryptography cannot repair weak or unverifiable source observations.
  2. Prepare deterministic report data. Represent the relevant findings as structured JSON. The PTVS reference architecture specifies sorted keys, no whitespace, and UTF-8 for compatible canonicalization. The same logical data must produce the same byte sequence for repeatable hashing.
  3. Compute the report hash. Compute SHA-256 over the canonical representation. Keep the report available through an appropriate evidence channel and associate its hash with the claim. A later recomputation can reveal whether the data differs from what was committed; the hash alone does not establish the report’s real-world accuracy.
  4. Submit a claim. In a test environment, the tutorial describes submitting asset identifiers, a score or status, the report hash, timestamps, and an authorized expert identity to a claim-injection contract. Confirm the deployed contract’s actual interface and implementation rather than assuming tutorial sample code matches it.
  5. Query and apply policy. Have the application or compliance component read the claim. Define how it handles a claim that is missing, expired, revoked, malformed, or below a threshold—and which actions, if any, depend on it.
  6. Exercise the complete flow. Test successful and failure paths on a testnet or sandbox before considering production. Review the contract, evidence process, and operational controls independently.

Separate physical claims from identity and compliance

The PTVS reference architecture presents four pillars: on-site forensic inspection; cryptographic lineage using canonical JSON and SHA-256; on-chain verifiable claims and circuit breakers; and a network of certified experts. It describes PTVSClaimInjector alongside ERC-3643/T-REX identity, compliance, and token contracts, with PTVS intended to integrate with that context. This is the publisher’s architecture description, not independent certification that a particular integration is compatible or production-ready.

Identity and compliance controls and physical-asset evidence are distinct inputs. ERC-3643/T-REX can provide the identity and compliance context in the described architecture; a platform may coordinate physical claims with its own controls, but should specify which component is authoritative for each decision.

Design claim lifecycle and token-action policy

Recording a claim is only part of the design. Production policy must make the claim’s lifecycle and consequences explicit. For each claim type, decide who may submit it, what makes it valid, when it expires, how updates or revocations work, and how the application behaves when it cannot obtain a usable claim.

  • Authorization: Define authorized submitters and how the platform verifies their identity and authority. Consider signatures and the process for changing or removing access.
  • Status and freshness: Define valid statuses, timestamp meaning, expiry rules, and how a stale claim is distinguished from a current one.
  • Updates and revocation: Specify how corrected reports, disputed findings, or withdrawn claims affect the on-chain record and any dependent platform decisions.
  • Action mapping: State whether a claim can affect issuance, transfers, or distributions, and under which conditions. A sample score threshold in a tutorial is illustrative, not a universal standard.
  • Failure handling: Set explicit behavior for absent, expired, revoked, malformed, or below-threshold data. Decide whether actions pause, continue, or require a separate review, and define any emergency override and its governance.

Illustrative circuit-breaker logic should not be copied into production without reviewing the contract implementation and the legal and operational consequences of each blocked or permitted action.

Test the integration before production

The tutorial assumes basic Solidity knowledge and familiarity with Hardhat or Foundry. Use the tools and network supported by the contract implementation, and verify its interface, deployment addresses, and configuration in the environment you test. A testnet demonstration shows a flow can be exercised there; it does not establish security, legal admissibility, or general production readiness.

Test the whole path from report preparation through the platform’s decision, including failure cases:

Production readiness: what the hash cannot settle

Before relying on claims in a live system, review smart-contract security, access controls, signatures, canonicalization, contract upgrade and revocation design, monitoring, and data availability. Separately establish who is responsible for inspections, how inspectors are qualified and held accountable, how disputes are resolved, and what evidence users can inspect.

Assess any implementation against its own requirements rather than assuming one design fits every asset or jurisdiction. Useful comparison axes include evidence provenance; deterministic serialization and reproducible hashing; trust and governance over submission and revocation; policy for expiry and missing data; interoperability, transaction cost, data availability, and monitoring; and the legal scope for the relevant asset type and jurisdiction.

The tutorial discusses MiCA, but the pages describing PTVS do not establish that MiCA Article 36 requires this particular continuous physical-inspection workflow. They also do not establish that PTVS is regulator-approved, legally admissible, independently audited, or generally production-ready. The PTVS publisher’s reference architecture, dated 14 August 2026 and marked updated 19 August 2026, describes the standard and its intended integration; publisher-reported submissions, registrations, or pilots are not equivalent to endorsement or independent validation.
