For the XREAL AURA system, connect the glasses to the computing Puck with the included glasses cable through the Puck’s USB-C 1 port. Keep USB-C 2 separate: it is the charging and DisplayPort-in port. Then use the in-box Quick Start Guide for the exact first-boot sequence and on-screen setup.

This procedure is specific to XREAL AURA. “Compute puck” is not a universal connector standard, so do not transfer these port labels, cable assumptions, or software steps to another pair of XR glasses or another Puck without checking that product’s manual.

What the compute Puck does in an XR-glasses setup

A compute Puck is a separate processing unit that lets a lightweight headset or glasses system divide the work between two devices. In XREAL’s AURA arrangement, the glasses provide the wearable, optical-see-through view while the tethered Puck runs the Android XR computing environment. XREAL describes the split this way: “The compute puck runs on the latest Snapdragon® Reality Elite platform while XREAL X1S Spatial Coprocessor supports low-latency spatial display and glasses-based XR experiences.” That is a vendor description, not an independent performance test; the official product page does not publish a third-party benchmark or battery-runtime result.

The Puck is carried separately rather than worn as part of the glasses. Plan where it will sit (a pocket, bag, desk, or hand) and leave enough slack for the cable to move with you. The physical tether and the way you carry the Puck are part of a usable setup, not an afterthought. XREAL’s explanation of the AURA system covers the separate Puck and its touchpad role in more detail at the XREAL US Shop AURA guide.

Identify the exact hardware before plugging anything in

Read the labels on the Puck and confirm that you have XREAL AURA glasses and the AURA computing Puck. The port names and included accessories below come from XREAL’s current AURA product page, checked October 13, 2026: XREAL AURA | It Feels Like Tomorrow. A different model may use a different port map, cable, power requirement, or setup application.

  • USB-C 1: labeled for the AURA glasses.
  • USB-C 2: labeled for charging and DP-in, with DisplayPort Alt Mode support.
  • In the box: a glasses cable and a charging cable, alongside the packaged documentation and Quick Start Guide.

The product page does not establish the exact orientation of each cable end or publish a complete account, Wi-Fi, permission, firmware, and first-boot walkthrough. Use the printed Quick Start Guide that came with your unit for those physical and on-screen details instead of relying on a guessed menu path.

Connect the AURA glasses to the Puck

  1. Place the Puck and glasses safely. Put the Puck where it will not be pulled off a desk or caught in a strap. Keep the glasses lenses protected while you make the connection.
  2. Find USB-C 1. Use the port explicitly labeled for the AURA glasses. Do not use USB-C 2 for this glasses-to-Puck link merely because both connectors look identical.
  3. Use the included glasses cable. Connect one end to USB-C 1 and the other to the glasses connection identified in the Quick Start Guide. The official product page confirms that a glasses cable is included, but it does not document a universal end-for-end orientation; follow the markings and illustrations supplied with your package.
  4. Seat both plugs fully. A connector that is only partly inserted can produce an intermittent or blank display. Do not force a plug; inspect for debris or a damaged connector if it will not seat normally.
  5. Power and start the system as the guide shows. Follow the AURA Quick Start Guide for the button, charging state, and first-boot order. The available product information does not verify a single official sequence that can safely be reproduced here.
  6. Complete the prompts shown on the glasses or Puck. Apply the current software’s instructions for any network, account, permission, or update request. Exact labels and order are not established by the product page, so do not substitute a menu sequence from another XR device.

Once the glasses are showing the AURA interface, test the Puck touchpad and, if needed, voice or hand input. Pair a Bluetooth accessory only when the activity benefits from it; every additional device adds another battery and pairing state to manage.

What each USB-C port is for

Port Published role Use it for Important qualification
USB-C 1 AURA glasses port The included glasses cable between the Puck and AURA glasses Port role and 5 V/2 A maximum are manufacturer specifications for AURA; they do not define another model’s port.
USB-C 2 Charging input and DP-in Charging the Puck or accepting DisplayPort video from a compatible source Supports DisplayPort Alt Mode; a source device must itself provide compatible video over USB-C. Published input specification is 5–19 V, up to 3 A, 57 W maximum.

These labels are easy to confuse because both ports use USB-C-shaped connectors. Treat the printed role, not the connector shape, as the deciding factor. USB-C describes the physical connector family; it does not guarantee charging behavior, DisplayPort output, USB data, or any particular power level.

Connect a laptop, phone, handheld, or other video source through DP-in

USB-C 2 can serve as the AURA Puck’s DisplayPort-in path, but only when the source device supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over its USB-C port. Check the source manufacturer’s specifications for “DisplayPort over USB-C,” “DP Alt Mode,” or a Thunderbolt/USB4 implementation that explicitly carries DisplayPort. A USB-C socket by itself is not evidence of video output.

  1. Confirm the source capability first. Look up the exact laptop, phone, tablet, or handheld model—not just its product family—and verify that its USB-C port outputs DisplayPort video.
  2. Choose the intended signal path. For an external source, connect its video-capable USB-C output to the AURA Puck’s USB-C 2 DP-in port using a suitable cable or adapter. The AURA page identifies the Puck port, but does not prescribe a universal cable for every source.
  3. Account for non-USB-C outputs. A computer with HDMI or a full-size DisplayPort output may require a compatible model-specific adapter or hub. XREAL’s general Connect Devices tutorial explains the broader requirement that the source and adapter path carry DisplayPort video; it is not an AURA-only adapter list.
  4. Keep the glasses link separate. The glasses remain connected to USB-C 1. Do not disconnect that link while testing an external source on USB-C 2.
  5. Turn on the source and select its display output. Use the source operating system’s display controls if it does not automatically detect the Puck. The exact setting name varies by operating system and hardware.

When the source lacks DP Alt Mode, a passive USB-C cable cannot create a video signal. You would need a compatible active conversion and connection path, if one exists for that source and AURA workflow; do not assume that any HDMI-to-USB-C lead will work.

Charging and power considerations

USB-C 2 is the published charging input. XREAL lists a 5–19 V input range at up to 3 A, with a 57 W maximum. Those are electrical limits and compatibility specifications, not a promise that every charger will deliver 57 W or that charging will take a particular amount of time. Use a charger and cable that meet the Puck’s requirements and follow the supplied guide for charging indicators.

The Puck’s listed battery capacity is 4,455 mAh. Capacity alone cannot be converted into a reliable runtime because actual use depends on display mode, radios, processor load, peripherals, and software. No independent runtime result is established here. The glasses figure published by XREAL is 95 g; that is the glasses weight only and excludes the Puck and cables, so it should not be used as the carry weight for the complete system.

Choose controls for the job

Touchpad on the Puck

The Puck’s touchpad is the built-in physical control and avoids pairing another device. It is a practical starting point for first boot, selecting items, and basic navigation. Keep the Puck accessible if you expect to use it frequently; burying it in a bag makes a touchpad-based workflow awkward.

Hands and voice

XREAL lists hands and voice as native input categories. They can reduce the need to hold the Puck, but recognition can vary with the application, environment, language, lighting, and microphone conditions. Enable or configure these features only through the prompts and settings presented by your current AURA software.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bluetooth keyboard and mouse

A keyboard is useful for writing, terminal work, and long-form text. A mouse is useful when an app depends on precise pointer movement. Pair them through the system’s current Bluetooth controls, following the accessory’s pairing mode and the on-screen AURA instructions. The available product information confirms support for these categories but does not specify a universal pairing menu or maximum device count.

Bluetooth game controller

A controller can be more comfortable than a touchpad for compatible games or other apps designed around gamepad input. Verify that the application recognizes the controller before buying or carrying one solely for AURA use; support can be app-specific.

Display and hardware specifications you can use when planning

The following figures are manufacturer-published AURA specifications from the current product page, checked October 13, 2026. They are not independent measurements.

Where to put the Puck and how to route the cable

Because the Puck is separate, cable management affects comfort and reliability. A pocket keeps the unit close but can create a sharp bend when you turn your head. A desk provides easy access to the touchpad but limits movement. A small bag or belt pouch can work while walking if the cable is secured and has enough slack.

  • Keep the cable away from hinges, chair wheels, and door handles.
  • Allow a gentle loop rather than a tight bend at either connector.
  • Do not let the Puck hang from the glasses cable; support its weight independently.
  • Before moving, check that the cable will not snag on furniture or another person.
  • When storing the system, disconnect or coil the cable without sharp kinks and protect the glasses lenses.

These are practical handling measures rather than published performance claims. They reduce accidental strain on the connectors and make the split-compute design easier to live with.

Why there is no picture: a diagnostic sequence

A blank view can come from a wrong port, an incomplete connection, an unsupported source, or a software state. Work through the checks in this order so you change one variable at a time.

The glasses do not show the AURA interface

  1. Verify that the glasses cable is plugged into USB-C 1, the port labeled for AURA glasses.
  2. Remove and firmly reseat both cable ends. Inspect the plugs and ports for visible damage or debris.
  3. Confirm that the Puck has the power or charge state required by the Quick Start Guide.
  4. Follow the guide’s documented startup and recovery actions rather than trying a sequence from another XR product.

An external laptop or handheld shows no video

  1. Confirm that the source’s exact USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Many USB-C ports provide charging or data only.
  2. Make sure the source is connected to USB-C 2, the AURA charging/DP-in port, while the glasses remain on USB-C 1.
  3. Replace an unverified cable or adapter with one specified to carry DisplayPort video for the source.
  4. If the source uses HDMI or full-size DisplayPort, check that the adapter or hub is an active, compatible conversion path—not a passive cable that merely changes the plug shape.
  5. Use the source operating system’s display settings to detect or enable the external display.

The image is intermittent

  • Reduce movement and test with the Puck on a stable surface to identify cable strain.
  • Check both connectors for a partial insertion or a cable pulled tight around a pocket or desk edge.
  • Remove optional Bluetooth peripherals temporarily to determine whether the issue is specific to the display link or the broader system.
  • Record which port, cable, source, and software state produced the failure before contacting official support; that information makes model-specific troubleshooting more precise.

This sequence is a reasoned first check based on the published port roles and DisplayPort compatibility rule. It is not a claim that the product page contains a complete official troubleshooting procedure.

Common setup mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming every USB-C port outputs video: USB-C connector shape does not guarantee DP Alt Mode.
  • Using USB-C 2 for the glasses: on AURA, that port is labeled charging/DP-in; the glasses port is USB-C 1.
  • Buying a separate glasses cable before checking the box: XREAL lists a glasses cable as included. Confirm your package contents and cable condition first.
  • Applying another model’s instructions: port names, adapter paths, power behavior, and menus can differ even when the connector looks the same.
  • Interpreting 95 g as the complete carry weight: the published figure covers the glasses, not the Puck and cables.
  • Turning 4,455 mAh into a runtime promise: capacity is not a tested number of hours.
  • Expecting 120 Hz everywhere: “up to 120 Hz” is a maximum specification and does not guarantee that every app or source uses it.
  • Letting the Puck hang from the cable: support the Puck separately to avoid unnecessary connector strain.

A compact pre-use checklist

  • Exact hardware confirmed as XREAL AURA glasses and AURA Puck.
  • Glasses cable identified and connected to USB-C 1.
  • USB-C 2 reserved for charging or a verified DP Alt Mode source.
  • Quick Start Guide available for first boot and on-screen prompts.
  • Puck placement and cable route allow movement without pulling the glasses.
  • Input method selected: touchpad, hands, voice, keyboard, mouse, or controller.
  • For an external source, DP Alt Mode and any required adapter are verified for the exact model.

Which instructions apply to other XR glasses or pucks?

Only the general principles transfer: identify the exact model, read its port labels, verify the source’s video capabilities, use the supplied guide, and avoid forcing a connector. The AURA-specific facts—USB-C 1 for glasses, USB-C 2 for charging/DP-in, the included glasses cable, and the published electrical limits—should not be treated as a universal standard. Check the other product’s manual before connecting power, video, or accessories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For AURA, the most reliable setup is therefore straightforward: glasses cable to USB-C 1, a properly supported charger or DP Alt Mode source on USB-C 2 when needed, and the in-box guide for first-use software steps. The Puck’s separate location, cable routing, and chosen input method determine how comfortable that arrangement is in actual use.
