Connect the SuperStation One’s HDMI output directly to an HDMI input on the TV, using the HDMI cable supplied with the console. Select that input on the television, then power the console with a compatible USB-C Power Delivery charger. For the first setup and any blank-screen diagnosis, leave HDMI switches, capture cards, and adapters disconnected. The dock’s HDMI-shaped port is an expansion slot, not a video output.
What you need
A modern-TV connection requires only the console’s video output, an HDMI input on the television, and the included HDMI cable. No scaler, converter, analog-video accessory, or special television adapter is required for the basic HDMI setup.
- SuperStation One: Use the HDMI port on the console itself.
- HDMI cable: One is included in the console package. A replacement is relevant only if the supplied cable is missing or faulty.
- Television: Any available HDMI input can be used for the direct connection. The official setup material does not publish a television-brand compatibility matrix, so it does not establish universal compatibility with every model.
- USB-C PD charger: Video cabling and console power are separate. Retro Remake’s setup guidance recommends a 9V/3A USB-C Power Delivery profile for SuperStation One. Its documentation also says 5V or 12V can work when the charger supports USB PD.
Have the television and console accessible while making the first connection. Connecting the system directly to the display makes it easier to distinguish a cabling or input-selection problem from a power, firmware, or storage problem.
Use the console’s HDMI output, not the dock’s expansion port
The SuperStation One has a port that carries video to a television and a separate HDMI-shaped opening on the dock. They are not interchangeable. The usable video connection is the HDMI output on the console. The dock’s HDMI-shaped port is an expansion slot and does not send video.

Check the labels and physical location before plugging anything in. If the cable is in the dock’s expansion opening, the television can remain on the correct input and still show no signal because no video is being transmitted through that port. Move the cable to the HDMI port on the console itself before changing other settings.
Connection paths for a modern television
| Connection path | Display endpoint | Extra conversion or hardware | Role in setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Console HDMI output directly to TV | Television HDMI input | None | Official first-setup configuration |
| Console HDMI output through a switch, capture card, or adapter | Television HDMI input | Intermediary device in the HDMI path | Can affect HDMI EDID; remove while checking an initial signal |
| Analog output to a legacy display | Compatible analog display | Analog connection hardware as required by that display | Relevant to older displays, but unnecessary for a modern TV with HDMI |
| Dock HDMI-shaped expansion port | No video endpoint | Not a video connection | Does not provide video output |
For a modern television, the first row is the path to test. An HDMI switch, capture device, or adapter may be useful for a later installation, but introducing one before the console has produced a direct picture adds another possible source of failure.
Step-by-step: connect the SuperStation One before powering on
- Turn the television off or leave it in standby. This is not a requirement for the cable itself, but it gives you a controlled starting point and makes the selected input easier to verify.
- Locate the console’s HDMI output. Do not use the HDMI-shaped expansion port on the dock. The cable must be connected to the output on the SuperStation One console.
- Plug in the included HDMI cable. Seat one end fully in the console’s HDMI output. A connector that is only partly inserted can prevent a stable signal.
- Connect the other end to a free HDMI input on the TV. Note the input label, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, because the television must be switched to that same input.
- Keep the HDMI path direct. For initial setup, do not place an HDMI switch, capture card, receiver, splitter, or adapter between the console and television. Official guidance warns that intermediary devices can affect HDMI EDID and lead to a blank screen.
- Connect USB-C power. Use a USB-C Power Delivery charger. The documented recommendation is a 9V/3A profile. A 5V or 12V profile can also work when the charger negotiates USB PD, according to the setup documentation.
- Select the television input. Turn on the TV, press its Source, Input, or equivalent button, and choose the HDMI input used in step 4. The exact menu wording varies by television.
- Power on the console. The official setup sequence calls for making the HDMI connection before powering on. Wait for the television to detect the source rather than changing several cables or inputs at once.
If a picture appears, the basic connection is complete. You can then decide whether to reconnect any equipment used in your normal entertainment setup, testing one device at a time so that a later failure can be traced to a specific change.

Choose the correct HDMI input on the TV
Modern televisions often have several HDMI sockets, each with a separate input selection. The number printed next to the socket and the input shown on the TV’s on-screen source list must match. For example, a cable connected to the socket marked HDMI 2 will not produce a picture while the TV is displaying HDMI 1.

Use the remote’s input or source control, or open the television’s source menu, and select the numbered HDMI input used for the console. If the TV reports “No signal,” leave the input selected while checking the cable and console port. Switching repeatedly between unrelated sources can make it harder to identify whether the signal is being detected.
If the TV has an automatic input-detection feature, it may switch sources when the console starts, but do not rely on that behavior. Manually selecting the known HDMI input is the reliable first check.
Fix a blank screen in a controlled order
A black or “No signal” screen does not automatically mean the television is incompatible. Work from the simplest physical checks toward power and boot checks, changing one variable at a time.

2. Check that the cable is on the console
Trace the cable visually from the TV back to the SuperStation One. It must end at the console’s HDMI output, not at the dock’s HDMI-shaped expansion port. The dock opening does not transmit video, so changing the television input will not correct a cable connected there.
3. Remove every HDMI intermediary
Disconnect switches, capture cards, adapters, splitters, and other devices from the path. Connect the console directly to the TV, then repeat the input-selection and power-on sequence. The official documentation identifies HDMI EDID changes introduced by intermediary equipment as a possible cause of a blank screen.
4. Substitute the cable
Try another known-good HDMI cable if one is available. This test is useful when the supplied cable is damaged or its connectors do not remain firmly seated. A spare cable is optional; it is not needed when the included cable works.

Connect the console directly to a different television or to a computer monitor, again using the console’s HDMI output. The official guide notes that computer monitors often support a broader range of display resolutions, making one useful for initial setup or troubleshooting. A successful picture on another display points attention back to the original TV’s input, configuration, or signal-handling behavior rather than proving that every television model is compatible.

6. Check power separately
Confirm that the console is connected to a USB-C Power Delivery charger. The documented recommendation is 9V/3A; 5V or 12V may work when the charger supports USB PD. A console that is not receiving appropriate power may not boot far enough to produce video, so do not treat every black screen as an HDMI compatibility issue.
7. Consider firmware or SD-card boot problems
The official troubleshooting material discusses firmware and SD-card issues as separate boot and setup checks. If direct HDMI, a known-good cable, and a second display do not produce a picture, follow those boot checks rather than repeatedly replacing television cables. The display connection can be correct even when the console has not completed startup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why direct HDMI is recommended first
HDMI devices exchange display information during connection. That information is commonly referred to as EDID and can include the display’s supported modes. A switch, capture card, adapter, or other intermediary can alter, delay, or fail to pass that exchange in the way the console and TV expect. The official SuperStation documentation specifically warns that such devices can affect EDID and result in a blank screen.

A direct connection removes those additional negotiations. It gives the console and television one cable path and one display endpoint, which is the clearest baseline for setup. Once a direct picture is confirmed, reconnect an intermediary only if you need it. If the picture disappears after adding one device, return to the direct arrangement to verify that the console and TV still work independently.

Power requirements are separate from video cabling
The HDMI cable carries the display signal; it does not replace the console’s power supply. SuperStation One setup guidance recommends a USB-C Power Delivery charger using a 9V/3A profile. The same documentation says that 5V or 12V can work when the charger supports USB PD. This qualification matters: the voltage options are described in the context of a charger that negotiates the USB PD standard, not an arbitrary USB-C power source.
Connect the charger as part of the setup sequence after the HDMI cable is in place. If the TV remains blank, check the power arrangement independently of the video path. A failure to boot, a firmware problem, or an SD-card issue can prevent video output even when the HDMI cable and TV input are correct.
Using a computer monitor for diagnosis
A computer monitor with HDMI can serve as a temporary test display. The official guide notes that monitors often support a broader range of display resolutions, so one can be useful when a television does not lock onto the console’s signal during initial setup.
Use the same controlled procedure: console HDMI output to the monitor’s HDMI input, no switch or capture device, and appropriate USB-C PD power. If the monitor displays the console, reconnect the original TV directly and recheck its selected input. If neither display shows an image, continue with the cable, power, firmware, and SD-card checks rather than assuming a TV-specific fault.
What is and is not required for a modern TV
- Required for the normal path: the console’s HDMI output, an HDMI input on the TV, the included HDMI cable, and USB-C PD power.
- Not required for the normal path: an HDMI converter, scaler, analog-video accessory, capture card, or switch.
- Potentially useful only for diagnosis or a special setup: a second known-good HDMI cable, another TV, or a computer monitor.
- Not a video solution: the dock’s HDMI-shaped expansion port.
Analog outputs matter when connecting to a legacy display, but they do not need to be converted for a modern television that already accepts HDMI. The official setup material reviewed does not provide a model-by-model TV compatibility list, so it supports the direct HDMI procedure without establishing that every television will behave identically.
Final setup checklist
- The HDMI cable is connected to the SuperStation One console, not the dock expansion port.
- The other cable end is in the TV socket whose number you selected in the source menu.
- The first test bypasses switches, capture cards, splitters, receivers, and adapters.
- The console is powered by a USB-C PD charger; 9V/3A is the documented recommendation.
- The HDMI connection was made before powering on the console.
- A second known-good cable has been tested if the supplied cable is suspect.
- A different TV or computer monitor has been tried if the original display remains blank.
- Firmware and SD-card boot checks have been considered when the console does not appear to start.
Following this order gives you a clean baseline: the SuperStation One’s HDMI output goes straight to the television, the TV is watching that input, and power is supplied independently through USB-C PD. Only after that baseline works should additional HDMI equipment be introduced.
