The correct connection method depends on your exact Sony INZONE model. Wireless models that include a USB transceiver normally use that transceiver with a PS5 or computer; some also offer Bluetooth. The INZONE Buds have different phone requirements, including LC3 (LE Audio) for Bluetooth and USB-C restrictions for their transceiver.
For the INZONE H9 II, connect the supplied transceiver, set its switch to PC for a computer or OTHER for a PS5 or smartphone, and then turn on the headset. If you have another INZONE model, use its model-specific Help Guide before assuming the same switch labels or phone support.
Identify your INZONE model and connection route
Look at the label on the headset, its charging case, the box, or the Sony audio software you already use. Connection controls and supported radios differ between the H9 II, earlier H-series models, INZONE Buds, and other INZONE products. A method that works for one model may be unavailable on another.

Before connecting anything, identify three details: the exact headset model, whether a USB transceiver was supplied, and the connector on the device you want to use. This prevents a common mistake—assuming that every USB-C port supports every wireless adapter, or that every INZONE headset has the same Bluetooth capabilities. Keep the model-specific Help Guide available if a switch, button, or indicator does not match the instructions below.

| USB transceiver to PS5 | A compatible INZONE headset and its transceiver connected directly to the console | Switch position and supported console mode vary by model. Sony identifies the H9 II transceiver as compatible with PS5 and PC. |
| USB transceiver to PC | A compatible headset, transceiver, and an available USB port | Use the PC switch position on the H9 II. Other models may label controls differently. |
| USB transceiver to phone | A USB-C-compatible phone and a headset/transceiver combination that supports this route | Some phones require USB-device detection or USB On-The-Go (OTG). Compatibility with every USB-C device is not guaranteed. |
| Bluetooth | A headset model with Bluetooth and a phone or computer with the required Bluetooth profile | INZONE Buds require LC3 (LE Audio) for Bluetooth and do not support Bluetooth Classic. |
| Bluetooth plus transceiver | A model that supports both connections at once | On the H9 II, an active Bluetooth call or chat uses the headset microphone, preventing simultaneous microphone chat on the PC or PS5. |
Connect a Sony INZONE H9 II to a PS5
The H9 II uses its USB transceiver for the straightforward PS5 setup. Put the transceiver in the console rather than routing it through an unpowered hub while you are diagnosing a connection problem.
- Insert the supplied USB transceiver directly into a PS5 USB port.
- Move the transceiver switch to OTHER. On the H9 II, this is the setting for a console or smartphone; PC is for a computer.
- Turn on the H9 II headset.
- Wait for the headset connection notification. Sony states that the H9 II USB transceiver is compatible with both PC and PS5.
- Start a game or media app and check that sound is coming through the headset.
Use the front or rear console port that leaves the transceiver unobstructed. If the headset connects only intermittently, move large metal objects or other wireless equipment away from the adapter and keep the headset nearby until initial pairing is complete. Once audio works, you can test your normal seating position.
If the PS5 shows a connection but there is no sound
Open the PS5 sound settings and select the INZONE USB headset as the audio-output device. Sony’s H9, H7, and H5 audio guidance recommends selecting the USB headset when the console has not switched output automatically. Confirm the headset volume and the game’s own audio-output setting as well.
Also check whether the PS5 is sending chat and game audio to different destinations. A console can recognize the USB headset while still retaining a television or receiver as the active output. Selecting the INZONE device explicitly makes the test unambiguous. Speak into the microphone in a party or recording test so you verify input as well as playback.
If the H9 II will not pair with the PS5
Keep the headset and the console/transceiver within about 1 metre (roughly 3 feet) while pairing. Turn the PS5 off and on, reconnect the transceiver, and try again. A nearby USB hub, long extension, or other wireless equipment can make a first pairing less reliable, so use a direct console connection during setup.
Connect a Sony INZONE H9 II to a PC
- Plug the USB transceiver directly into the computer.
- Set the transceiver switch to PC.
- Power on the H9 II and wait for the wireless connection indication.
- In Windows or your operating system’s sound settings, choose the INZONE headset for output and, when you need voice chat, for microphone input.
- Play a test sound and make a short microphone recording before joining a meeting or game.
If the computer does not detect the headset, move the transceiver to another USB port. A restart with the transceiver already inserted can also force the operating system to enumerate it correctly. The H9 II’s switch must remain on PC; leaving it on OTHER is a common reason for an apparently dead PC connection.
For a desktop computer, avoid placing the transceiver behind a dense cluster of cables or a metal case panel if you have another port available. On a laptop, test both sides if one port is connected through a hub or docking station. A direct port is the cleanest diagnostic route; add a dock only after the headset works directly.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Connect the replacement transceiver to the computer.
- Press and hold the transceiver’s connect button for about five seconds.
- Place the headset within about three feet (approximately 1 metre) of the transceiver.
- Turn on the headset.
- Wait for the pairing indication and test both playback and the microphone.
If the indicator never confirms pairing, stop and check the model compatibility rather than repeatedly resetting unrelated settings. A replacement adapter intended for a different INZONE model may look identical but still fail to pair.
Connect an INZONE headset to a phone
Phone support is the least uniform part of the INZONE range. Decide first whether your model should use Bluetooth or a USB transceiver, then check the phone’s radio and connector requirements.
A phone connection is useful for music and calls, but do not assume that it behaves like the console connection. The phone may need to authorize an external USB device, and some models expose no setting for doing so. If the phone rejects the adapter, that is a compatibility question rather than proof that the headset is broken.
H9 II with a USB-C phone
- Confirm that the phone has a USB-C port and that the H9 II transceiver is intended to work with the phone.
- Insert the transceiver into the phone.
- Set the H9 II transceiver switch to OTHER.
- Turn on the headset and start audio playback.
- If the phone does not react, look in its system settings for a control named Detect USB device, USB On-The-Go, or a similar USB-host option. Labels differ by phone manufacturer and operating-system version.
USB-C describes the connector, not guaranteed audio compatibility. A phone can have a USB-C socket and still fail to recognize a particular wireless transceiver. Consult the phone manual when no USB-device or OTG option appears.
Remove a thick case if it prevents the transceiver from seating fully, and do not force the connector. After the phone recognizes the adapter, check the media-volume level and the app’s selected output. If audio works but calls do not, review the phone’s permissions and call-audio routing before changing headset settings.
H9 II over Bluetooth
Use Bluetooth only if your specific H9 II configuration and phone support it. Enable Bluetooth on the phone, put the headset into its Bluetooth-pairing mode as described in the H9 II Help Guide, select the headset in the phone’s device list, and play audio to verify the connection. The exact button sequence is model-specific, so do not apply a Buds pairing procedure to the H9 II or another H-series headset.
Bluetooth is generally the simpler phone route when it is supported, because it does not occupy the phone’s USB-C port. It is still separate from the H9 II’s USB-transceiver mode: pairing the phone over Bluetooth does not change the transceiver switch setting used for a PS5 or PC.

- Secure Hold: Our PopSockets adhesive phone grip gives your cell phone a secure, comfortable hold in hand to help prevent drops while texting, taking photos, or scrolling on the go. Designed to stick firmly to most phone cases and devices.
- Hands-Free Made Easy: Easily turn your PopSocket into a phone stand to prop up your phone anywhere, perfect for watching videos, video calls, or following recipes. A must-have phone holder that keeps your device secure and ready for anything.
- Compatibility: Works with all phones, tablets, and Kindles. Sticks best to smooth, hard plastic cases and may not adhere to silicone or textured cases. Easily swap your PopTop to change up your style.
- Black PopSockets: Simple, refined, and endlessly versatile. A timeless essential for any phone.
- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
- For a Bluetooth connection, the phone must support LC3, also called LE Audio. The Buds do not support Bluetooth Classic.
- For the supplied USB transceiver route, the phone needs USB-C. Sony states that iPhone is not supported through this route, and compatibility with all USB-C devices is not guaranteed.
If an Android phone does not support LE Audio, use the supplied USB transceiver instead, provided the phone and the Buds support that USB-C connection. If neither requirement is met, the phone cannot use that route with the Buds.
Bluetooth settings that show only “Bluetooth” are not enough to establish Buds compatibility; confirm that the phone lists LE Audio or LC3 support. Conversely, an Android phone without LE Audio may still work through the supplied USB-C transceiver, subject to the phone’s USB-host support.
Use Bluetooth and the USB transceiver at the same time
Some INZONE models can maintain a Bluetooth phone connection while using a 2.4 GHz USB transceiver with a PC or PS5. On the H9 II, however, a Bluetooth phone call or chat takes control of the headset microphone. You can hear the Bluetooth conversation, but you cannot use the H9 II microphone for simultaneous chat on the PC or PS5.

Troubleshoot an INZONE transceiver connection
Work through these checks in order. They address the H9 II USB-transceiver problems covered by Sony and are sensible first checks for other models, although their controls may differ.
- Confirm power. Make sure the headset is turned on and the console, computer, or phone is awake.
- Check the switch. Use PC for a computer and OTHER for a PS5 or smartphone on the H9 II.
- Reconnect firmly. Remove and reinsert the transceiver. On a computer, try a different USB port. On a PS5, connect it directly instead of through a hub.
- Restart the host. Restart the computer, PS5, or USB-C phone, then reconnect the transceiver after the device has finished booting.
- Check the selected output. On PS5 or PC, explicitly choose the INZONE USB headset for sound output. Also choose it as the input device when microphone chat is required.
- Reduce distance. During pairing, keep the headset close to the transceiver—about 1 metre or less.
- Pair again. For the H9 II, hold the transceiver connect control and the headset power button for about five seconds or longer, then wait for the pairing indication. Use the model’s Help Guide if its controls differ.
- Check phone USB settings. On a USB-C phone, enable USB-device detection or OTG if the phone requires it.
Change one thing at a time and test after each step. That makes it clear whether the switch, USB port, host settings, or pairing state was responsible. If the adapter is not recognized on two known-good ports, test it on the device for which it was designed before concluding that the headset has failed.
Troubleshoot an INZONE Bluetooth connection
- Turn on Bluetooth in the phone or computer and verify that the headset is selected as the active audio device.
- Start playing audio. Some phones do not complete an audio route until an app is actively producing sound.
- Disconnect the headset from the device, then select it again from the Bluetooth device list.
- Restart the phone or computer and repeat pairing.
- For INZONE Buds, confirm that the phone supports LC3/LE Audio. Bluetooth Classic support alone is insufficient.
Keep the headset close to the phone during the first pairing attempt, and temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth audio devices so the phone cannot choose the wrong output. If a call is the only failing function, verify that the phone has enabled call audio for the headset rather than media audio alone.
Do not begin with a factory reset unless the normal checks fail and you are prepared to configure the headset again. Sony notes that a factory reset removes settings and Bluetooth pairings, so every Bluetooth device must be paired again afterward.

Replace a lost or damaged INZONE USB transceiver
Sony provides a replacement-transceiver path for supported INZONE headsets and documents pairing on a computer. Replacement availability does not mean that a transceiver is universal: model fit must be verified before purchase. Match the replacement to the exact headset model and follow the pairing instructions supplied for that combination.
After obtaining a compatible unit, connect it to a PC, hold its connect button for about five seconds, keep the headset within roughly 1 metre, and power on the headset. Wait for the pairing indication before testing audio. If pairing fails, recheck the model number and the replacement’s compatibility rather than assuming the headset itself is defective.
Because compatibility is model-specific, compare the replacement listing’s supported model numbers with the label on your headset before paying. The available replacement price and stock can vary by seller and region; Sony’s support instructions establish the pairing route, not a universal price or cross-model fit.
Choose the right route for your device
| Your situation | Preferred first attempt | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| H9 II and PS5 | USB transceiver set to OTHER | Direct USB connection and PS5 USB-headset output selection if sound is missing |
| H9 II and PC | USB transceiver set to PC | Operating-system output and microphone devices, then another USB port if needed |
| H9 II and USB-C phone | USB transceiver set to OTHER | USB-device detection or OTG and phone compatibility |
| INZONE Buds and Android with LE Audio | Bluetooth using LC3/LE Audio | Phone support for LC3, not merely Bluetooth Classic |
| INZONE Buds and a USB-C phone without LE Audio | Supplied USB transceiver | USB-C compatibility; the transceiver route does not support iPhone |
| PC or PS5 chat while a phone call is active on H9 II | Disconnect Bluetooth during the chat | The H9 II microphone is assigned to the Bluetooth call while it is active |
The best route is therefore not simply the one with the fewest cables. Compare model support, the device’s port or radio, whether game audio and microphone chat are both available, and any phone-specific requirements. A USB transceiver may be preferable for console gaming, while Bluetooth may be more convenient for a supported phone; neither choice is universal across the INZONE range.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to use the model-specific Help Guide
Use Sony’s Help Guide whenever your headset is not the H9 II or INZONE Buds, the transceiver has different switch labels, the headset has no USB transceiver, or your phone uses an unusual USB implementation. The general sequence—identify the model, choose a supported radio or transceiver route, select the correct host output, and pair again only when necessary—is reliable, but exact buttons, indicators, and compatibility lists are not universal across the INZONE family.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I connect my Sony INZONE headset to my PS5?
For the H9 II, plug the supplied USB transceiver directly into the PS5, set its switch to OTHER, and turn on the headset. If sound does not start automatically, select the INZONE USB headset as the PS5 audio output. Keep the headset within about 1 metre during pairing and restart the console if necessary. Other models may use different labels or routes.
How do I connect a Sony INZONE headset to a PC?
Connect the compatible USB transceiver directly to the computer, set the H9 II switch to PC, and power on the headset. Select the INZONE device for playback and microphone input in the operating system. Try another USB port and restart the computer if it is not detected. Confirm the exact model before applying these H9 II switch instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan I connect my INZONE headset to my phone?
Sometimes. Phone support depends on the model, phone connector, and wireless standards. A USB-transceiver route generally requires a compatible USB-C phone and may require USB-device detection or OTG. Bluetooth is available only on models that support it. INZONE Buds require LC3/LE Audio for Bluetooth, while their USB-transceiver route does not support iPhone.

Why will my INZONE headset not connect?
Check that the headset is powered on, the H9 II switch is set to PC for a computer or OTHER for a PS5 or phone, and the transceiver is firmly connected. Use a direct USB port, restart the host, select the INZONE output manually, and keep the devices within about 1 metre while pairing. For Bluetooth, reconnect from the device list and verify the required profile.
Can I use Bluetooth and the USB transceiver simultaneously?
Some models support both connections, but behavior is model-specific. On the H9 II, an active Bluetooth phone call or chat uses the headset microphone, so the H9 II microphone cannot simultaneously handle PC or PS5 chat. End the phone call or disconnect Bluetooth when console or computer voice chat is required.
Does every USB-C phone work with an INZONE transceiver?
No. USB-C identifies the physical connector, not guaranteed wireless-adapter compatibility. The phone may need USB-device detection or USB On-The-Go, and Sony does not guarantee compatibility with every USB-C device. Check the phone manual and the headset model’s Help Guide before relying on this route.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why do INZONE Buds need LC3 or LE Audio?
INZONE Buds do not support Bluetooth Classic, so a phone must support the LC3 codec used by Bluetooth LE Audio for a Bluetooth connection. An Android phone without LE Audio may instead use the supplied USB-C transceiver if the phone supports USB-host operation. iPhone is not supported through that Buds transceiver route.
Can I replace a lost INZONE USB dongle?
Sony documents replacement transceivers for supported INZONE headsets, but a replacement is not automatically universal. Match the replacement to the exact headset model. On the supported PC procedure, connect the replacement, hold its connect button for about five seconds, keep the headset within roughly 1 metre, power it on, and wait for the pairing indication.
Should I factory-reset the headset when pairing fails?
Not first. Try power, switch position, direct USB connection, host restart, output selection, shorter distance, and model-specific re-pairing steps before resetting. Sony notes that a factory reset removes settings and Bluetooth pairings, so you will have to pair every Bluetooth device again afterward.
The Bottom Line
Start with the model number, then choose the route that the headset and host actually support. For the H9 II, use the USB transceiver on OTHER for a PS5 or phone and PC for a computer, select the INZONE output if audio is missing, and pair at close range. For INZONE Buds, verify LC3/LE Audio for Bluetooth or USB-C support for the transceiver, remembering that iPhone is excluded from that transceiver route. When a dongle is lost, buy only a model-matched replacement.
