You can use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with most Android tablets without any special desktop mode. Put each accessory into pairing mode, then select it in the tablet’s Bluetooth settings. Wired keyboards, mice, and wireless USB receivers also work when the tablet has a compatible USB port; a USB-C tablet may need an OTG adapter for USB-A accessories.
Choose the connection that fits your tablet
There are three practical ways to add a keyboard and mouse to an Android tablet:
| Connection | What you need | Best fit | Points to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | A Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse with charged batteries or a charged internal battery | A clean, cable-free desk or a tablet used in different locations | Bluetooth must be enabled; each device must be in pairing mode; the accessory must be compatible with Android |
| Wired USB | A USB keyboard or mouse and a matching tablet port, cable, dock, or hub | A fixed workstation or accessories that do not use Bluetooth | Connector type, tablet port support, cable reach, and whether the tablet supports the particular peripheral or hub |
| Wireless USB receiver | A keyboard or mouse set with its USB receiver, plus a compatible tablet port, dock, hub, or OTG adapter | A wireless set that uses a dedicated receiver instead of Bluetooth | The receiver must be fully seated; USB-A receivers may require an OTG adapter on a USB-C tablet |
A separate keyboard and mouse gives you the most flexibility. A keyboard with an integrated touchpad can reduce the number of devices and ports you need. A model-specific keyboard cover is another option, but it must physically fit and be supported by the exact tablet model.

- Identify the tablet’s connector: USB-C, another USB type, or no accessible full-size USB port.
- Charge the keyboard and mouse, or install fresh batteries where applicable.
- Read the accessory’s instructions for its pairing button, pairing key combination, power switch, or receiver-storage compartment.
- Keep the Bluetooth accessory close to the tablet during first-time pairing.
- For a keyboard cover, confirm compatibility with the tablet’s exact model rather than relying on a similar product name.
- If you use a USB hub or dock, make sure its plug matches the tablet and remember that the tablet may not support every peripheral or hub.
Connect a Bluetooth keyboard
- Turn on the keyboard. Make sure it has enough charge or working batteries.
- Start pairing mode. Follow the keyboard manufacturer’s instructions. A status light may blink while the keyboard is discoverable.
- Open the tablet’s Bluetooth pairing screen. On Google’s documented Android path, open Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. Menu names can differ by Android version and manufacturer, and some steps in Google’s guide apply only to Android 14 and later.
- Select the keyboard. Tap its name under Available devices.
- Complete the prompt. Android may display a pairing code or ask you to confirm a code. Follow the on-screen instruction; if it asks you to type a number on the physical keyboard, type it there and press Enter.
- Test text entry. Open a note, document, browser address bar, or search field and type a short sentence. If the wrong characters appear, correct the physical keyboard layout after pairing.
Once paired, the keyboard normally appears under the tablet’s saved or connected devices. The exact labels depend on the tablet maker and Android software.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Connect a Bluetooth mouse
- Power on the mouse. Check its charge or batteries and move its switch to the on position.
- Put it into pairing mode. Use the mouse’s pairing button or the method in its instructions.
- Open Bluetooth settings. On Samsung Galaxy devices, Samsung documents Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Other Android tablets may place Bluetooth under Connected devices or a similarly named menu.
- Select the mouse. Tap it in the available-device list and accept any pairing prompt.
- Move the pointer. A pointer should appear when you move the mouse. Click a visible item to confirm that the tablet is receiving input.
You can pair the keyboard first and the mouse second, or reverse the order. Pairing one does not prevent the other from connecting. If you are using a keyboard-and-mouse combo, follow the combo’s instructions for putting each device or the shared receiver into pairing mode.
Connect a wired keyboard, mouse, or USB receiver
Direct USB connection
Plug the keyboard or mouse cable into the tablet’s USB port. If the accessory uses a connector that matches the tablet, Android should recognize it without Bluetooth pairing. A wireless keyboard or mouse that includes a USB receiver works the same way: connect the receiver rather than pairing the individual device in Bluetooth settings.
Using USB-C with USB-A accessories
Many older keyboards, mice, and wireless receivers use USB-A, while Android tablets commonly expose a USB-C port. Samsung notes that a USB-A peripheral connected to a USB-C port may need an OTG adapter. Check both connectors before buying an adapter:

- The adapter’s tablet side must match the tablet’s port.
- The adapter’s accessory side must accept the keyboard, mouse, or receiver’s plug.
- The tablet, adapter, and accessory combination must support the peripheral; a matching shape alone does not establish compatibility.
You can also connect the accessory to a compatible USB-C dock or hub, then connect the dock to the tablet. This can be useful when you need several USB devices, but the tablet may not support every hub or peripheral. If a dock has more than one USB port, try another port when troubleshooting a receiver.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What happens after plugging in
A USB keyboard should let you type in any field that accepts text. A USB mouse should display a pointer. A receiver-based set should respond after the receiver is fully inserted and the keyboard or mouse is switched on. If nothing happens, disconnect and reconnect the cable or receiver before changing software settings.
Set the keyboard layout and physical-keyboard behavior
Android provides controls for a connected physical keyboard. The available labels and locations vary by tablet and Android version, but the settings can address the most common work problems:
- Keyboard layout and language: Choose the layout that matches the keys printed on your keyboard. Google says the physical keyboard uses the tablet’s on-screen keyboard language by default, so a mismatch can make punctuation or symbols appear in unexpected places.
- On-screen keyboard visibility: Decide whether the software keyboard remains visible while a physical keyboard is connected. Keeping it visible can be useful when you need emoji, handwriting, or an input method that is not present on the physical keyboard.
- Keyboard shortcuts: View the shortcuts available on your tablet and in individual apps. Shortcut support is app-dependent, so a shortcut that works in one editor may do something different elsewhere.
- Modifier-key behavior: Adjust available settings for keys such as Ctrl, Alt, or other modifiers if the tablet exposes those controls.
To correct a layout issue, open the tablet’s physical-keyboard settings while the keyboard is connected, select the keyboard, and choose the appropriate language or layout. Then test characters such as @, quotation marks, parentheses, and the symbols you use most in documents or spreadsheets.

- Reverse scrolling
- Bottom-right tapping behavior, such as a secondary click
- Cursor speed
Use a short document or web page to test the pointer after each change. If scrolling feels backward, change the scrolling direction rather than changing the mouse hardware. If the pointer is difficult to control, adjust cursor speed gradually and retest.
On Samsung devices using DeX, Samsung documents additional mouse controls such as pointer speed and the primary button. The available options vary by model and software.
Do you need Samsung DeX?
No. DeX is not required to pair a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Google documents direct Bluetooth keyboard pairing through ordinary Android tablet settings, and a mouse can be paired through the tablet’s Bluetooth menu.
DeX is Samsung’s desktop-style environment for compatible Samsung devices. On supported tablets, Samsung says you can use the touch screen, S Pen, USB or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or a compatible keyboard cover. DeX support is model- and software-dependent, and Samsung’s supported-device information can change. Check the current compatibility information for the exact tablet before planning a DeX-based workstation.

When DeX is worth checking
- You want a desktop-style Samsung interface rather than the standard tablet interface.
- You already own a compatible Samsung tablet and want to use its supported DeX mode.
- You need to confirm whether a particular keyboard cover or external-display arrangement is supported by your model.
When standard Android is enough
- You only need to type, move a pointer, select text, and use ordinary Android apps.
- Your tablet is not a Samsung model supported by DeX.
- You want the simplest setup with no additional desktop-mode configuration.
Bluetooth, USB, or a combo: how to decide
| Question | Choose Bluetooth when… | Choose USB or a receiver when… |
|---|---|---|
| How mobile is the setup? | You move the tablet often and want fewer cables. | The tablet stays at one desk and a cable or receiver is acceptable. |
| What ports are available? | You want to avoid using the tablet’s USB port. | Your accessory already uses USB and you have a matching port, dock, hub, or OTG adapter. |
| How many devices will you connect? | You want to pair devices individually. | You have a combo set with one receiver or a dock with suitable ports. |
| What must you verify? | Android compatibility, pairing mode, battery or charging status, and keyboard layout. | Connector sizes, adapter requirements, receiver seating, and support for the specific peripheral or hub. |
| What is the main trade-off? | You must manage pairing and battery or charging. | You may need an adapter, hub, or cable and must leave the USB connection accessible. |
There is no evidence here for a universally best brand or model. Compare the connection type, tablet-port requirements, keyboard language, charging or battery arrangement, physical fit, and compatibility with your intended tablet and apps.

The accessory does not appear in the list
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the tablet.
- Turn the keyboard or mouse off and on.
- Charge it or replace its batteries.
- Start pairing mode again; being powered on is not always the same as being discoverable.
- Move the accessory closer to the tablet during pairing.
- Close the pairing screen and open it again, then search for available devices.
If the accessory is still absent, check its instructions for a separate pairing button or key combination. A device that is already connected to another host may need to be disconnected or switched to a different Bluetooth channel before it becomes available.
A previously paired device no longer responds
Open Bluetooth settings, select the saved keyboard or mouse, and unpair or forget it. Restart the peripheral, put it back into pairing mode, and pair it again. Samsung also recommends checking for software updates when a previously paired Bluetooth device will not respond. After reconnecting, test typing or pointer movement in a simple app before returning to your main work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe keyboard connects but types the wrong symbols
Open the physical-keyboard settings and select the correct language and layout. The tablet may be using its on-screen keyboard language by default. Test the layout with punctuation and symbols that differ between regional layouts.

The pointer feels awkward
For a touchpad, check tap-to-click, reverse scrolling, bottom-right tap behavior, and cursor speed. For a mouse or DeX setup, adjust pointer speed and the primary-button setting when those controls are available.
Troubleshoot a wired device or wireless USB receiver
Nothing happens after plugging it in
- Unplug the cable or receiver and reconnect it firmly.
- Check that the keyboard or mouse is switched on.
- If you are using a dock, try another USB port on the dock.
- Verify that the adapter matches both the tablet port and the accessory plug.
- Disconnect other USB devices temporarily in case the setup is drawing more power or creating a compatibility issue.
The receiver is connected but the mouse or keyboard does not respond
Make sure the receiver is fully seated in the tablet, dock, or hub and that the accessory is close enough for its wireless signal. Reconnect the receiver, then test the keyboard or mouse on another device. If it fails there as well, the peripheral, receiver, batteries, or cable may be defective. If it works elsewhere, the issue is more likely the tablet port, adapter, dock, or compatibility of that combination.
The tablet has only USB-C but the accessory is USB-A
Use a compatible USB-C OTG adapter or a USB-C dock that accepts the USB-A plug. Do not assume every USB-C tablet supports every OTG accessory. If the tablet does not recognize the device, test the accessory without the hub when possible and confirm support for the tablet and adapter combination.
Build a reliable work setup
- Pair or plug in one input device at a time. This makes it clear which connection causes a problem.
- Confirm basic input. Type in a simple text field and move the pointer before opening a long document or meeting app.
- Set the keyboard layout immediately. Fixing regional symbols early prevents errors in passwords, filenames, code, and spreadsheets.
- Set pointer and scrolling preferences. Adjust speed and direction while you can easily test them.
- Keep the tablet’s on-screen keyboard decision intentional. Leave it visible if you need its extra input tools; hide it if you want more workspace.
- Record the connection method. Note whether the setup uses Bluetooth, a direct cable, or a receiver and keep the required adapter with the tablet.
For a portable setup, a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse or a keyboard with an integrated touchpad avoids carrying an OTG adapter and receiver. For a fixed desk, a wired connection or receiver through a compatible dock can leave the tablet free for charging, but verify the dock and peripheral combination before relying on it for work.
What to verify before buying accessories
- Android compatibility: The manufacturer should identify support for Android tablets, not only desktop operating systems.
- Connection method: Decide whether you want Bluetooth, a cable, or a dedicated wireless receiver.
- Tablet port and adapter: Confirm whether USB-A requires a USB-C OTG adapter or dock.
- Keyboard layout: Buy the language and regional layout that match your work.
- Power: Check battery type, charging connector, charging frequency information supplied by the manufacturer, and whether the device can be used while charging.
- Physical fit: A keyboard cover must be designed for the exact tablet model.
- Pointer controls: If you prefer a touchpad, confirm that the tablet exposes the touchpad settings you need.
- Model and software limits: If you plan to use Samsung DeX, verify support for the exact tablet and installed software.
The safest purchase is the one whose connector, Android support, layout, power arrangement, and physical fit are all confirmed before checkout. No single accessory type is guaranteed to work with every Android tablet, USB hub, or dock.
