How you connect a JBL wireless microphone depends on the PartyBox model and microphone generation. A receiver-dongle set plugs into the speaker’s microphone input; microphones supplied with some newer PartyBox models pair directly. These are different setups, not Bluetooth pairing steps that work across every PartyBox.
First identify your PartyBox and microphone
Check the model name on your speaker and identify whether you have a separate JBL Wireless Microphone Set with a 6.3 mm receiver dongle or a microphone designed to pair directly with a specific PartyBox. Follow the instructions for your exact model: the dongle steps below do not apply to directly paired microphones.
JBL says its older Wireless Microphone Set is incompatible with PartyBox Encore, which has no microphone input. JBL’s newer PartyBox Wireless Mic is a different product, so do not assume that a set or spare microphone works with your speaker just because both products carry the JBL name. Check the model’s manual or JBL support information before buying or troubleshooting.

Use these steps only for the Wireless Microphone Set whose receiver plugs into a PartyBox microphone input. JBL’s instructions for that set describe a receiver connection, not Bluetooth pairing. JBL’s connection instructions cover this procedure.
#1 Best Overall
- Clear voice, crisp sound: The cardioid pickup pattern of these mics deliver a warm, clear, and crisp vocal sound that's designed to make everyone sound their best over any JBL PartyBox.
- Minimize all unwanted noise: A shock mount system minimizes the sound of the mics passing from one hand to another, while a built-in pop filter eliminates any extraneous breathing sounds that you don't want to be part of your performance.
- Easy to use: Just plug in and start singing. It's really that simple.
- Compatible with all PartyBox speakers: From the PartyBox Encore to the Ultimate, you can use the mics with any JBL PartyBox speakers.
- Sing out all night long: Keep the party going all night with up to 20 hours of play time. (up to 12 hours play time when using the digital wireless dongle.)
- Confirm that your PartyBox has a microphone input and is compatible with this microphone set.
- Insert the supplied 6.3 mm receiver dongle into the PartyBox microphone input.
- Turn on the dongle and the speaker. The dongle’s power light should stay on. If it does not stay lit, charge the dongle with the supplied USB cable before continuing.
- Turn on one or both microphones. Their displays should show a channel, such as CH-1 or CH-2. The channels connect automatically; JBL says they cannot be selected manually, and a displayed channel may change after the equipment is power-cycled.
- Raise the PartyBox microphone volume and gain until the sound is at a suitable level.
JBL advises against charging the receiver dongle while using it because doing so is likely to cause unwanted interference. If a microphone display does not show a channel number, JBL’s troubleshooting advice is to replace the microphone batteries.
Pair a microphone directly with a PartyBox
Some PartyBox models use microphones supplied with the speaker or model-specific microphones that pair directly. Their procedures are not interchangeable with the receiver-dongle setup.

Troubleshoot a JBL wireless microphone that will not connect
- The receiver light will not stay on: For the receiver-dongle set, charge the dongle with its supplied USB cable, then check the light again. Avoid charging it while it is in use.
- The microphone display shows no channel: Replace the microphone batteries, as JBL advises for the Wireless Microphone Set.
- A directly paired microphone does not connect: For the On-The-Go 2 and Encore 2 procedures above, retry with the speaker and microphone within one meter and allow up to three minutes for automatic pairing.
- The microphone is too quiet or inaudible: For the dongle set, check the PartyBox microphone volume and gain. If connecting or disconnecting a microphone on the On-The-Go 2, follow its manual’s precaution to turn microphone volume down first.
- The microphone works on one of two linked PartyBoxes but not the other: TWS does not necessarily distribute microphone audio from the connected speaker to its partner. JBL says the microphone may play only from the PartyBox it is connected to; its suggested alternatives are a wired audio connection between speakers or a small mixer. See JBL’s guidance on PartyBox TWS and microphone audio.
Check compatibility before replacing or adding a microphone
Before choosing a replacement, verify the exact PartyBox model supported, whether the microphone is a receiver-dongle set or a directly paired model-specific microphone, and whether the speaker has the required microphone input. Also check how many microphones can be used at once, the microphone battery type and runtime, and whether the item is a complete set or a single replacement microphone.
JBL lists the PartyBox Wireless Mic with two microphones, one dongle, a quick-start guide, a safety/warranty card and a USB-C cable. JBL specifies a 30 m (100 ft) working range, up to 20 hours of microphone playtime and up to 12 hours of dongle playtime. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results; actual performance depends on conditions. Confirm that the product version and your PartyBox model are compatible before purchase.
