Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted Arma 3 servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
Configure Arma 3 voting in the active server.cfg with three controls: voteMissionPlayers decides when mission voting can start, voteThreshold sets the required share of votes, and allowedVoteCmds[] controls which vote commands are available before or after a mission and can set a command-specific threshold.
The safest workflow is to back up the live configuration, make one change at a time, restart the server, and test with the same player count and mission flow your community uses. Arma 3 builds can differ, and the engine defaults are not firmly established in the available documentation, so treat every value as something to verify in your running build rather than assuming a universal default.
What the Arma 3 voting settings control
Voting is not one switch. The server evaluates a minimum-player condition, a required vote share, and an allow-list of vote commands. A configuration can therefore fail in several ways: voting may not start because too few players are connected, the command may be absent from the allow-list, a command may be limited to a different phase, or the required share may be higher than the group expects.
| Setting | Scope | What it controls | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
voteMissionPlayers |
Global mission-vote trigger | How many connected players are required before mission voting starts | The engine default is not confirmed; published examples use different values. |
voteThreshold |
Global vote requirement | The share of votes needed to confirm a vote when no command-specific threshold applies | The wiki describes this global setting as applying where allowedVoteCmds[] or allowedVotedAdminCmds[] does not define a threshold. The wiki wording references Arma 3 1.39 DEV and later changes. |
allowedVoteCmds[] |
Per command | Whether a command is available before and after a mission, plus an optional threshold override | Use the live syntax reference for your build; the field order below follows the available wiki snippet and should be verified before deployment. |
The official reference is the Arma 3 Mission Voting wiki. Its full page should be checked whenever you move to a new server build.

Prepare the server before editing
Find the configuration the process actually loads
Open the server.cfg passed to your Arma 3 server process or selected by your hosting control panel. Hosts often keep several profiles, staging files, or generated copies, so changing a similarly named file may have no effect. Confirm the file path in the startup command or panel, and note the server profile and build number.
Back up and stop cleanly
- Stop the server or place it in a maintenance state so it cannot overwrite the file while you edit it.
- Copy the current
server.cfgto a dated backup. - Record the current player count, mission rotation, and any existing
allowedVoteCmds[]entries. - Make one logical change, save the file as plain text, and restart.
Do not paste explanatory comments into the middle of an array unless your host confirms that its parser accepts them. A malformed comma, brace, or semicolon can prevent a setting from loading or cause the server to reject the configuration.

These two keys are the starting point for a normal mission-voting setup:
voteMissionPlayers = 1;
voteThreshold = 0.33;
In this example, mission voting is eligible when at least one connected player meets the minimum, and the global threshold is set to 0.33. Community host examples describe that value as 33 percent of players voting yes. The setting is a proportion, not a percentage written as 33; use a decimal fraction such as 0.5 for one half.
Do not present 1 or 0.33 as the engine defaults. One host guide reports 0.33 as a default threshold, while other material describes a 0.5 fallback for a per-command threshold that has no value. The available evidence does not establish a single default for every Arma 3 build. Likewise, one guide reports 1 for voteMissionPlayers, while another example uses 0 in a mission-selection context. Set the value explicitly and verify the result in your own server log and client test.

Use allowedVoteCmds[] to control individual votes
allowedVoteCmds[] is an array. Each entry contains a command name, a flag for availability before the mission, a flag for availability after the mission, and an optional threshold. The commonly published shape is:
allowedVoteCmds[] = {
{"admin", true, true, 0.5}
};
In that entry, the command name is admin, both phase flags are enabled, and the command-specific threshold is 0.5. A threshold written in an entry takes precedence over the global voteThreshold for that command. If the entry omits a threshold, the global value applies where the command is otherwise allowed.
The exact field order is reported from a wiki snippet rather than a retrieved full page, so verify the current syntax for your build before copying a large command list. Keep the array punctuation exact: entries are separated by commas, the outer array closes with };, and Boolean values are written as true or false in published examples.
Before- and after-mission flags
The second and third fields determine whether the command can be voted on before the mission starts, after the mission is running, or in both phases. A command with true, false is restricted to the pre-mission phase; false, true restricts it to the post-mission phase. If players report that a vote exists in one phase but not the other, inspect these flags before changing the threshold.
Global versus per-command thresholds
Use voteThreshold when most vote types should share one rule. Add a fourth value to a specific allowedVoteCmds[] entry when that command needs a different rule. This prevents a stricter administrative vote from forcing every ordinary mission vote to use the same supermajority, while still keeping the policy visible in one file.

Choose a threshold deliberately
The following values are policy choices, not documented engine defaults:
| Value | Mathematical meaning | When an administrator might choose it |
|---|---|---|
0.33 |
One third of the required share | A permissive community setting where a small group should be able to move to another mission. |
0.5 |
One half | A simple majority rule for a mixed public server. |
0.66 |
About two thirds | A supermajority intended to prevent a small faction from changing the mission. |
1.0 |
All counted votes must support the proposal | A unanimous rule, provided your build counts abstentions and disconnected players as you expect. |
The number alone does not tell you how abstentions, missing clients, or rounding are handled. Test with a known number of connected players and record which proposals pass. If your community needs a hard majority, test an odd and an even player count because rounding can make a visible difference.
Complete configuration examples
Basic voting for a small server
voteMissionPlayers = 1;
voteThreshold = 0.33;
allowedVoteCmds[] = {
{"admin", true, true, 0.5}
};
This illustrative policy allows voting once the minimum player condition is met, uses a global one-third threshold, and requires one half for the listed admin command in both phases. It is an example of the relationship between the keys, not a claim about your build’s defaults.
One global policy with no command override
voteMissionPlayers = 2;
voteThreshold = 0.5;
allowedVoteCmds[] = {
{"admin", true, true}
};
Here the command remains enabled in both phases and inherits the global threshold because no per-command value is supplied. Confirm that your server accepts the three-field form; if your build requires an explicit threshold field, add the value documented for that build.

A stricter administrative vote
voteMissionPlayers = 2;
voteThreshold = 0.5;
allowedVoteCmds[] = {
{"admin", true, true, 0.66}
};
This keeps ordinary votes at the global policy while requiring roughly two thirds for the listed command. Test that the command is actually the one your server exposes; an entry for a command that is not recognized will not create a new feature.

How to disable voting
Community reports describe more than one disabling method, and they do not agree consistently across builds. The least ambiguous approach to test first is an empty command array:
allowedVoteCmds[] = {};
A Steam discussion reports that an empty array removes all vote commands. Another discussion reports allowedVoteCmds = 0 as disabling voting, but that is a different form and should be treated as anecdotal rather than interchangeable syntax. Guides also suggest setting voteThreshold = 999, while another table lists 9999; one user reported that 9999 did not change behaviour. Because these high-threshold tricks can fail or behave differently, do not rely on them as your only control.
Safe disablement test
- Back up the working configuration.
- Set
allowedVoteCmds[] = {};and restart the server. - Join with a normal player account and an administrator account.
- Check both the pre-mission and post-mission interfaces for vote commands.
- Inspect the server log for configuration errors and restore the backup immediately if unrelated settings stop loading.
If the empty array does not disable the commands on your build, consult the current wiki syntax and test the alternative only on a staging instance. Document the build number and the exact result so you can repeat the change after updates.
Why mission voting may not appear
An absent vote option does not prove that the threshold is wrong. Work through these checks in order:
- Player trigger: Confirm that the connected-player count meets
voteMissionPlayers. Remember that a value greater than your test group prevents the vote from becoming eligible. - Command allow-list: Inspect
allowedVoteCmds[]. An empty array, a misspelled command, or an entry with the relevant phase flag set tofalsecan hide the option. - Mission phase: Test both before and after the mission. The two Boolean fields are independent.
- Mission whitelist: A forum report about a normal player not seeing a mission-vote option recommends checking
missionWhitelist[]as well asvoteThresholdand the allowed command entries. That thread is old, so treat it as a troubleshooting lead and confirm the behaviour on your current build. - Active file and restart: Verify that you edited the file loaded by the running process and performed a full restart rather than only reconnecting a client.
- Permissions and identity: Test with a normal player and an administrator. A command restricted by permissions can look like a threshold problem when it is actually an access problem.
Diagnose a threshold that seems wrong
The vote passes with fewer yes votes than expected
Look for a per-command threshold in the matching allowedVoteCmds[] entry. It overrides the global value. Then verify which players the server counted at the moment of the vote and repeat the test with a controlled group. Do not infer the counting rule from a single public-session result.

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
The vote never passes
Check for a value such as 1.0 or an unexpectedly high command-specific threshold, then test with every participant voting yes. If it still fails, inspect the syntax and server log; a malformed array can leave the intended setting unapplied.
Changing voteThreshold has no effect
An entry-level threshold may be taking precedence, the wrong server.cfg may be loaded, or the server may not have restarted. Compare the timestamp of the active file with the startup log and temporarily remove the command-specific value to isolate the source.
Version and build considerations
The wiki wording for voteThreshold references a change dating from Arma 3 1.39 DEV, and later builds can alter command availability or parsing. Before migrating a server, record the old build, export the current voting settings, and test on the target build with a short mission. Re-read the live wiki page rather than carrying forward assumptions about defaults or the accepted shape of allowedVoteCmds[].
Keep a change log containing the build number, the exact configuration, the number of connected players, the command tested, and whether the vote appeared and passed. This is especially useful when a host panel regenerates server.cfg or when a mod pack changes mission-selection behaviour.
Quick Recap
Operational practices for fair voting
- Make the active threshold visible to moderators so players know whether a majority or supermajority is required.
- Use a staging server to test disabling or high-threshold configurations; do not experiment on a live event server.
- Keep pre-mission and post-mission permissions intentional. A command needed only to select the next mission does not automatically need to be available during play.
- After every game update, test a normal player account, an administrator account, and the exact mission rotation used in production.
- Retain a known-good backup so a failed configuration can be restored without guessing at undocumented defaults.
Quick verification checklist
voteMissionPlayersis explicitly set and lower than or equal to the smallest group that should be able to start a vote.voteThresholdis a decimal share such as0.33,0.5, or0.66, not a whole-number percentage.- Every intended command appears in
allowedVoteCmds[]with the correct pre- and post-mission flags. - Any command-specific threshold is deliberate and documented because it overrides the global value.
- The configuration was saved to the file actually loaded by the server and the process was restarted.
- A controlled test confirmed the result with known player counts.
- If voting is disabled, the empty-array method was tested and the result was checked in both mission phases.
- The server build and test result were recorded for future updates.
