To configure RCon on an Arma 3 server, enable BattlEye in server.cfg, create the BattlEye configuration file, set an RCon password and an unused RCon port, restart the server, and connect with an RCon client using the server address, port and password.
The most common failures are using the wrong BattlEye filename, choosing the game port (such as 2302) instead of a separate RCon port, leaving BattlEye disabled, or allowing an old beserver_active... file to override your edits.
What RCon does on an Arma 3 server
RCon is the remote-console interface exposed through BattlEye. It lets an administrator connect from a separate tool and issue server-management commands without opening the game itself. The interface is separate from the normal Arma 3 game connection, so it needs its own password, port and firewall rule.
RCon is not available merely because BattlEye files exist on disk. BattlEye must be running for the server process, and the server must successfully load a BattlEye configuration containing an RCon password and port. A client then authenticates against that listener.

Prerequisites and information to collect
- Access to the Arma 3 dedicated-server directory and permission to edit its configuration files.
- The server’s actual executable architecture. Use the 64-bit BattlEye filename when the server runs the x64 executable.
- The public IP address or resolvable hostname that the RCon client will use.
- A TCP/UDP firewall or hosting-control-panel rule that can expose the selected RCon port. Community guidance specifically calls out opening the relevant UDP ports.
- An RCon client such as BattleWarden or BERCon.
- A port that is not assigned to the game’s own port range or to another service on the host.
Make a backup of the existing server.cfg and BattlEye directory before changing anything. If a host uses a control panel, the panel may generate or replace files when the service starts; in that case, make the change in the panel’s configuration editor or confirm which file is authoritative.
Step 1: Enable BattlEye in server.cfg
Open the server’s main configuration file, normally called server.cfg, and ensure BattlEye is enabled. A typical Arma 3 configuration uses:

BattlEye = 1;Keep the setting in the same configuration that the launch process actually reads. If the server is started with a custom configuration path, editing an unused copy will have no effect. Save the file using the format and line-ending conventions already used by the server.
Restarting after this change is important. RCon will not begin listening while the running process has BattlEye disabled, even if the BattlEye configuration file is correct.
Step 2: Create the BattlEye configuration file
Choose the filename that matches the executable
Place the file in the server’s battleye directory. Use:

The Bohemia Interactive wiki and hosting documentation identify these two names. Do not create both and assume the server will choose the one you intended; use the filename that corresponds to the executable being launched.

Add the required directives
Open the selected file as plain text and add an RCon password and a free port. A minimal configuration is:
RConPassword replace-this-with-a-strong-password
RConPort 2307These BattlEye directives are written as one setting per line; they do not use the semicolon style of server.cfg. Replace the example password and port with your own values. The BattlEye wiki also documents optional settings such as MaxPing; do not add optional directives unless you understand the effect you want.
Choose a password that is unique to this server and not used for the operating-system account, game-panel login or another service. One vendor tool page recommends alphanumeric passwords because it reports that punctuation can confuse the BattlEye parser. That precaution is not confirmed in the Arma 3 documentation, but avoiding spaces, quotes and unusual symbols is a sensible first configuration. If you later test punctuation, change one variable at a time and keep a known-good backup.
Step 3: Select an RCon port that will not collide
The game and BattlEye use a group of nearby ports, and guidance differs on exactly how wide that group is. Older forum posts describe the default game range as 2302 through 2305. Other posts include 2306, while a Bohemia Interactive developer note describes BattlEye traffic moving to a separate default port of 2306. The safe operational rule is to keep your manually selected RCon port outside 2302–2306 unless you have confirmed the allocation for your particular build.

The reliable method is to assign a unique, confirmed-free port and record it for the server. For several instances on one host, give every instance its own RCon port and verify that no game, voice, query or management service already owns it. A simple sequence such as 2310, 2320 and 2330 can be easy to document, but the numbers are examples, not mandated values.

The RConPort setting is documented by the Bohemia Interactive wiki for Arma 3 update 1.58.135656 and later. Forum discussions also describe RCon changes after builds identified as 158.135170. If you operate an older build, check its build-specific documentation instead of assuming current port behavior.
Step 4: Restart and confirm that the file was loaded
- Stop the Arma 3 server cleanly.
- Check the
battleyedirectory for the selected file:beserver_x64.cfgfor x64 orbeserver.cfgotherwise. - Confirm that the file contains the intended
RConPasswordandRConPortlines, with no accidental quotation marks, trailing comments or duplicate port definitions. - Start the server using the normal service, script or hosting-panel command.
- Review the startup log for BattlEye initialization and any configuration or port-binding error. The exact log filename varies by installation, so use the log location already used by your server.
Some community guidance says to add a launch parameter pointing to the BattlEye folder when the server does not load the configuration. The exact parameter and syntax were not confirmed in the Bohemia Interactive documentation cited for this setup, so do not copy an unverified parameter blindly. First verify the executable, working directory, folder name and permissions. Only then use a launch option documented for your specific server build or hosting panel.

Step 5: Connect with an RCon client
Install or open an RCon client that supports BattlEye, such as BattleWarden or BERCon. Create a connection using these three values:

If the client is running on the same machine, test with the local address only if the client and operating system firewall support that path. For a remote administrator, use the address that the server’s network and hosting provider expose to the Internet. A successful login should produce the client’s normal connected or authenticated state; the wording differs by tool.
Step 6: Open only the required firewall path
Create an inbound rule for the chosen RCon port and the protocol required by your BattlEye deployment. Forum guidance specifically advises opening the relevant UDP ports. If your provider offers separate protocol controls, follow its Arma 3/BattlEye instructions rather than opening every port indiscriminately.
When the server is behind a router or NAT, forward the selected RCon port to the machine running Arma 3. The forwarding rule must point to the same internal address that currently hosts the server; a DHCP address change can silently break an otherwise correct setup. Cloud hosts may require both an operating-system firewall rule and a provider-level security-group rule.

Limit the source addresses to trusted administrator networks when your firewall supports it. Do not publish the RCon password in a public script, status page or support ticket. RCon is an administrative interface; exposing it broadly increases the impact of a stolen password.

BattlEye is disabled
Check server.cfg for the BattlEye enable setting, restart the process and verify BattlEye initialization in the startup log. A correct BattlEye file cannot make RCon work if the running server did not load BattlEye.
The filename or folder is wrong
Confirm whether the process is x64 and use beserver_x64.cfg accordingly. For a non-x64 process, use beserver.cfg. Both belong in the server’s battleye directory, not in an arbitrary configuration folder. Check for hidden extensions such as .txt added by a graphical editor.
An old active file is overriding your edits
Forum users report that BattlEye can rename the configuration to a file beginning with beserver_active while the server is running. Stop the server before inspecting these files. If a stale beserver_active... file remains while the server is stopped, delete that stale file, restore the intended configuration filename and start the server again. Keep a backup before deleting anything, and confirm the result in the startup log.
The client times out
- Verify that the client uses the RCon port, not 2302 or another game port.
- Check the operating-system firewall, router forwarding and any hosting-provider firewall.
- Confirm that the selected port is not already occupied by another server instance or service.
- Check that the server’s public address has not changed.
- Confirm that the RCon configuration loaded after the most recent restart.
A timeout usually indicates reachability or port-binding trouble rather than a bad password. Test from an allowed external network when possible; a local test can succeed even when NAT forwarding is wrong.
The client reports authentication failure
Re-enter the password exactly as configured and check capitalization. Make sure you edited the file that the running executable reads, rather than a template or inactive copy. Avoid changing the port and password simultaneously while troubleshooting, because doing so makes the failure harder to isolate.

You chose 2302
2302 is commonly the Arma game port. It is not a safe default for RCon. Move RCon to a separate, confirmed-free port outside the 2302–2306 range, update the firewall and reconnect using the new value.
A password containing symbols behaves unpredictably
Use a temporary strong alphanumeric password to eliminate parser ambiguity. The alphanumeric recommendation comes from a vendor tool page rather than a confirmed Arma 3 rule, so treat it as a diagnostic precaution, not proof that every symbol is invalid.

You are considering RestrictRCon
One vendor page says RestrictRCon must be set to 0, but that setting was not found in the Arma 3 sources reviewed and appears in DayZ documentation with a different filename. Do not add or change it as an Arma 3 fix unless documentation for your exact server build explicitly requires it.
Operating several Arma 3 servers
Each server instance needs a distinct game-port allocation and a distinct RCon listener. Give each instance its own BattlEye configuration file or panel entry, password and RCon port. Do not point multiple processes at one file unless the hosting system explicitly creates isolated configurations.
Document the mapping of instance name, game port, RCon port and administrator password owner. The “increment by 10” convention reported by one guide can make a schedule readable, but it is only a planning habit. The actual requirement is that every listener is free, reachable through the intended firewall rule and loaded by the correct process.

- After an Arma 3 or BattlEye update, verify the wiki and build notes for changes to RCon behavior. No separate 2026-specific RCon change is established in the available material.
- Retest after moving the server, changing its public IP, switching hosting panels or adding another server instance.
