Consistent aim starts with a control setup you can repeat, not with a magic sensitivity number. Set a mouse sensitivity that you can stop and track with comfortably, leave it unchanged while practicing, and use keyboard binds that perform one clear action at a time. Make routine changes through Counter-Strike 2’s settings menus. If you use console commands, first enable the developer console in Settings > Game.
A community-maintained settings reference lists sensitivity at a default of 1.25. That is a reference point, not a universally correct value or a proven aim-improvement prescription. Your goal is a stable baseline that remains familiar across practice sessions and matches.
What “consistent aim” means in Counter-Strike 2
Consistency means that the same physical mouse movement produces a familiar in-game result and that your keyboard never surprises you with an unintended action. It does not mean every shot will hit or that one configuration guarantees better aim. Accuracy still depends on crosshair placement, timing, recoil control, visibility, latency, and practice.
A useful setup has three properties:
- Repeatability: you can return to the same sensitivity and binds after an update or a hardware change.
- Predictability: a key press performs the action you expected, without a second movement or attack command attached to it.
- Stability: you avoid changing several variables during one practice session, so you can tell what actually helped or hurt.
Start with the controls you already understand. Change only what is causing a specific problem, then spend enough time with the new value to judge it under normal movement, stopping, and target switching.

Check the game and keyboard before changing aim settings
Update Counter-Strike 2 and note the current build
Menu labels, accepted commands, and competitive enforcement can change. Before troubleshooting, let Steam finish any Counter-Strike 2 update and restart the game if it requested one. When a setting behaves differently from an older guide, treat the current build as authoritative rather than forcing a legacy command.
Disable keyboard input automation
Valve advised players to disable keyboard input-automation features, including features marketed as Snap Tap Mode, before joining matches. These functions can alter how simultaneous or rapidly repeated inputs are interpreted. Turn them off in the keyboard’s own hardware utility or firmware profile, then select a normal gaming profile before launching a match.
Do not confuse a simple key remap with an automation feature. A one-to-one remap that sends one key when you press another is different from firmware that chooses, suppresses, or sequences movement inputs. If you are uncertain, use the keyboard’s standard profile and remove every feature described as automation, prioritization, cleaning, or input optimization.
Leave third-party injection tools out of the setup
Steam Support says Trusted Mode is enabled by default and blocks third-party files from interacting with Counter-Strike 2. Use the game’s own menus and console for ordinary configuration. Injected files, unofficial loaders, or utilities that alter input inside the game can fail to work, trigger warnings, or create a competitive-integrity risk. They are not required for sensitivity or keyboard configuration.
Set mouse sensitivity through the in-game menu
The menu is the safest starting point because it exposes the setting that the current build accepts and lets you confirm the value visually.
- Launch Counter-Strike 2 and open the gear-shaped Settings menu.
- Open the mouse or keyboard-and-mouse settings page where Mouse Sensitivity is displayed.
- Read the current value and write it down or take a screenshot before changing it.
- Move the slider or enter a value, then apply the change if the menu presents an apply button.
- Enter a practice environment and test ordinary actions: a short correction, a controlled stop, a 180-degree turn, and a target-to-target sweep.
The underlying console variable is sensitivity. A community-maintained settings reference reports a default value of 1.25. Because that reference is not official Valve documentation and does not establish an ideal for every player, check your live in-game value rather than assuming 1.25 is correct for you.

Choose a controllable baseline
There is no validated single sensitivity that makes every player aim better. Choose a value at which you can make both small corrections and larger turns without gripping the mouse unnaturally or repeatedly lifting it. A setting that feels controllable during a calm practice drill is a better baseline than one selected because it is popular.

- Fine correction: can you move the crosshair a small distance without overshooting?
- Stopping: can you halt on a target instead of oscillating around it?
- Repositioning: can you turn to a new angle without running out of desk space immediately?
- Repetition: does the movement still feel manageable after several minutes, rather than only during the first test?
If the crosshair repeatedly passes the target, make a modest reduction. If you cannot reach nearby angles without lifting the mouse constantly, make a modest increase. Change one value, then practice with it long enough to separate a genuine comfort difference from the unfamiliarity of a new number.
Use a controlled adjustment process
Frequent experimentation makes muscle memory harder to build. Use this sequence whenever you adjust sensitivity:
- Record the old value and the reason for changing it.
- Make one small change; do not alter sensitivity, key binds, and hardware profiles simultaneously.
- Play the same short set of drills with the new value.
- Keep the value through a complete practice session instead of switching back after one missed shot.
- Write down specific observations such as “overshoots close targets” or “runs out of pad on a turn,” rather than “feels bad.”
- Keep, revert, or make one further small adjustment at the next session.
This is a practical method for isolating variables, not a controlled study proving that a particular adjustment improves aim.

Keep a small configuration note outside the game. Record the Counter-Strike 2 sensitivity value, the date, and the mouse profile selected in your hardware software. If you move to another computer, the note gives you a known starting point instead of relying on memory.

Do not infer that a higher or lower number is automatically more precise. The useful question is whether you can repeatedly place and stop the crosshair where you intend, using a comfortable physical motion.
Enable and use the developer console safely
Console entry is optional. It can make a value easy to reproduce, but the in-game menu remains the normal configuration path.
Enable the console
- Open the gear-shaped Settings menu.
- Select Game.
- In the Game section, find Enable Developer Console (~).
- Set it to Yes, then close the menu.
- Press the key assigned to the tilde or console function on your keyboard. The exact physical key can vary by keyboard layout.
These menu labels follow Steam Support’s documented path. If your build uses slightly different wording, look for the same Enable Developer Console option in the Game settings.

With the console open, enter the variable and value in this form:
sensitivity 1.25The number above is the community-reported default reference, not a command you must adopt. Replace it with the value you selected, press Enter, and return to the mouse settings page to confirm that the game displays the expected number. Recording the exact command in your configuration note makes it easier to restore your baseline after testing.
Keep console use limited to clear, ordinary settings
Use commands only when you understand what they change. Avoid copied bind blocks that combine movement, attack, or timing actions. Valve’s August 19, 2024 release notes describe restrictions under which binds combining multiple movement or attack actions are ignored by default, along with enforcement against input automation. A command that worked in an older guide may therefore be ignored or behave differently in the current build.

Configure keyboard controls for predictable movement
Keyboard consistency is less about finding unusual binds and more about removing surprises. Keep movement, weapon selection, firing, and utility actions on keys you can reach without changing your hand position dramatically.

Review the existing binds before editing
- Open Settings and go to the keyboard or keyboard-and-mouse controls page.
- Read every bind you expect to use in a round, including movement, jump, crouch, reload, use, firing, weapon selection, and communication.
- Identify duplicate assignments, empty actions you accidentally need, and keys that trigger an action you do not recognize.
- Change one key at a time and test it in a practice environment.
- Write down the final layout so you can restore it after a reset.
Do not redesign the entire keyboard because one key is uncomfortable. Move the smallest number of actions necessary, then practice until the new location is familiar.
Use single-action binds
Each important key should have one understandable purpose. A movement key should move; an attack key should attack; a utility key should select or use the intended item. Avoid a bind that sends several movement or attack actions together, alternates directions, or attempts to automate a sequence. Valve’s August 19, 2024 release notes state that multi-action movement and attack binds are ignored by default, so complex bind strings are both harder to reason about and less dependable.

Test binds after an update
After a major update, open a practice session and test the actions that matter most before queuing for a match. A bind can remain visible in a configuration while its behavior is restricted or changed. If a multi-action bind is ignored, replace it with separate ordinary binds rather than trying to bypass the restriction.

Once sensitivity and binds are set, consistency comes from repeating the same conditions. Use the same mouse profile, the same in-game sensitivity, and the same keyboard layout for the entire session.
Warm up with repeatable movements
- Make several short crosshair corrections to nearby targets.
- Practice stopping on a target after a longer sweep.
- Turn to a new angle and return to the original target.
- Move, stop, and fire only after the crosshair is where you intended.
- Finish with the movement and utility keys you use most often.
The purpose is not to chase a score. It is to check whether the controls feel familiar before you interpret an aiming mistake as a settings problem.

Change one variable between sessions
If you decide that sensitivity is too high, do not also move jump, crouch, and utility binds that day. Make the mouse change, keep the keyboard unchanged, and repeat the same drills at the next session. If a bind is the problem, restore the previous sensitivity and test only the bind change. This separation makes your notes meaningful.
Keep notes based on symptoms
Record observable behavior: overshooting, stopping short, lifting the mouse too often, pressing the neighboring key, or activating the wrong action. Avoid changing settings because of one missed duel. A pattern that appears across a complete session is more useful than a single outcome.
Troubleshoot common consistency problems
The crosshair overshoots targets
First confirm that the sensitivity value did not change and that the keyboard or mouse hardware profile is the one you intended. If the value is unchanged, try a modest reduction and repeat the same practice sequence. Keep the new value for the session; switching back and forth after every mistake prevents a fair comparison.
The crosshair stops short or turns run out of space
Verify the same baseline checks, then consider a modest increase if the physical movement required is impractical for your available space. Test both small corrections and larger turns. A value that solves turns but makes fine stopping difficult is not a complete solution; continue with the smallest change that keeps both movements manageable.
A key performs an unexpected second action
Open the controls page and inspect duplicate assignments or a copied multi-action bind. Remove the extra action and retest in practice. Also check the keyboard’s hardware profile for automation features, including Snap Tap Mode, and select the standard profile before matchmaking.
A console command appears to do nothing
Confirm that the developer console is enabled under Settings > Game, that the command is spelled correctly, and that the value appears in the in-game mouse settings afterward. If a bind combines movement or attack actions, replace it with separate single-action binds; current rules may ignore the combined form.
The setup works in practice but not in a match
Check for a difference between your practice and match keyboard profiles, and make sure no third-party utility is injecting input. Trusted Mode is enabled by default and blocks third-party files from interacting with Counter-Strike 2. Use the game’s own settings and ordinary binds, then retest after restarting the game.
Use a configuration checklist before matchmaking
- Counter-Strike 2 is fully updated and has been restarted after an update.
- The intended mouse hardware profile is active.
- The in-game sensitivity value is recorded and unchanged from your practice baseline.
- The keyboard’s automation features, including Snap Tap Mode, are disabled.
- Movement and attack binds perform one clear action each.
- Important actions were tested in a practice environment after the latest change.
- The developer console is enabled only if you need it, and commands are limited to settings you understand.
- No injected files or unofficial input tools are being used.
When to revisit the setup
Revisit your configuration after a hardware change, a reset, a major game update, or a persistent symptom that appears across several sessions. Do not change it merely because another player uses a different number. A familiar, documented baseline is more valuable than a constantly changing collection of popular settings.
Valve’s August 19, 2024 release notes and Steam Support’s current guidance are useful checkpoints when bind behavior, console access, or Trusted Mode appears different. Confirm the option names and accepted behavior in your installed Counter-Strike 2 build before relying on an older command or guide.
