WWE All Stars does not have an established native Windows edition in the sources available here. The supported PC route described by the PCSX2 compatibility record is emulation of the PlayStation 2 version. You will need PCSX2, your legally obtained PS2 game media and the matching emulator setup. The NTSC-U game is identified as SLUS-21940; the PAL listing is SLES-55648.
This guide shows how to map a controller, verify that mapping, choose a graphics renderer, isolate changes to WWE All Stars, and troubleshoot the most common input and performance failures. Treat the compatibility result as historical evidence rather than a guarantee for every current PC.
What you are configuring
PCSX2 runs the PS2 release of WWE All Stars on Windows and other supported desktop operating systems. The PCSX2 Wiki lists the NTSC-U release as Playable, but its detailed result was recorded with PCSX2 1.5.0 development build 2445, not a current release. That distinction matters: an old “full speed” report is useful as a reference point, not as a promise that identical settings will work on your hardware today. See the WWE All Stars PCSX2 compatibility entry.

PSX Data Center lists SLUS-21940 for the NTSC-U disc and SLES-55648 for the PAL version, and describes a standard controller with analog input. Region and game image should match the title you intend to launch; do not use a profile or patch intended for a different game.

Prepare PCSX2 and the game
Install and launch PCSX2
Use a current PCSX2 build from the project’s official distribution channels, complete its first-run setup, and confirm that it can see your PS2 BIOS and game image. The exact first-run screens change between releases, so this article concentrates on the controller and graphics pages that PCSX2 documents consistently. Keep the emulator and game files in locations your operating system can read without permission errors, and close other applications while you establish a baseline.
Use the correct game media
PCSX2 is an emulator, not a source of WWE All Stars game files. Use a legally obtained PS2 disc or image and the BIOS obtained from your own compatible console. The cited compatibility pages do not verify current sellers, stock or prices, so no particular retailer, dump tool or disc listing can be recommended from this setup information. If PCSX2 cannot boot the image, solve that media or BIOS problem first; controller and renderer changes cannot repair a missing or mismatched game image.
Connect the controller before mapping
- Plug in a USB or Bluetooth gamepad and let Windows finish installing its normal device support.
- Confirm that the operating system sees the device. A controller that is invisible to Windows cannot be fixed by a PCSX2 profile.
- Close remapping utilities temporarily while you create the first mapping. Extra layers can make one physical button appear as several keyboard or controller inputs.
- If you have more than one pad for multiplayer, connect all intended devices before mapping and identify each one clearly in the controller list.
No particular controller brand or model is required by the compatibility evidence. A PC-compatible controller is an optional purchase for someone without suitable hardware, but no model has been tested or guaranteed here. The practical test is whether PCSX2 can access the device and whether SDL can map its buttons and sticks correctly.

Map a controller in PCSX2
Choose SDL as the first input source
Open Settings > Controllers. PCSX2 describes SDL as its preferred input source because it is cross-platform and suitable for most controllers and operating systems. Select SDL before experimenting with less portable or vendor-specific input layers. The official controller guide is at PCSX2 controller configuration.
Run automatic mapping
- With the controller connected, select the SDL device in the controller settings.
- Choose Automatic Mapping when PCSX2 offers it.
- Press every face button, shoulder button, stick direction, trigger and D-pad direction in the on-screen sequence.
- Save the mapping, then launch WWE All Stars and test movement, strikes, grapples, taunts and menu navigation.
- Repeat the check with the game paused and unpaused so you know that both gameplay and menu commands are reaching the emulator.
Automatic Mapping is a starting point, not proof that the layout is correct. Different controllers expose differently named buttons, and a successful wizard can still leave a trigger or stick direction reversed. Test inside the game before creating a more elaborate profile. Because the PSX Data Center entry specifies analog input, verify both analog sticks rather than testing only the D-pad. Check that a light stick movement produces controlled movement and that the full travel reaches the expected direction.
Keep the Shared profile unless you need a game-specific layout
PCSX2 normally uses the Shared input profile. Keep it when the same layout works across your library. If WWE All Stars needs a different arrangement, create a custom profile rather than changing every game.
- Save the custom mapping with a descriptive name, such as
WWE-All-Stars-SDL. - Open the game’s entry in PCSX2 and choose Properties.
- In the controller or input section, assign the custom profile to WWE All Stars.
- Apply the change and relaunch the game.
Creating a profile alone does not activate it. PCSX2’s documentation specifically requires assigning a game-specific profile in that game’s Properties. If the game keeps using the old layout, this assignment step is the first thing to check. Keep the Shared profile unchanged until the custom arrangement is proven; that makes it easier to tell whether a later problem belongs to this game or to your whole controller library.

Verify inputs without an in-app tester
PCSX2’s current Qt and Big Picture interfaces do not include an input tester. For a direct diagnostic, PCSX2 recommends the PS2 Pad Test homebrew. It lets you observe each mapped button, analog axis and direction independently of WWE All Stars. Use it to determine whether the problem is the physical device, SDL mapping or the game profile; it is not a WWE All Stars-specific preset.
If a stick drifts in the test, recalibrate the controller in the operating system or adjust the emulator’s dead-zone settings if your build exposes them. If every input is shifted by one button, rerun Automatic Mapping rather than manually compensating for a bad initial sequence. If only one game behaves differently, compare its assigned Properties profile with the Shared profile before changing the operating-system driver.
Check multiplayer deliberately
The historical compatibility entry reports full speed and no reported issues, including multiplayer, on its listed test machine. That confirms that multiplayer was exercised in that particular setup, not that every combination of controllers will work automatically. Connect each intended pad, confirm that PCSX2 lists each device through SDL, map each one, and test a local match before raising graphics settings. If one player works and another does not, isolate the second device in the controller settings instead of remapping the working pad.
Fix keyboard commands and controller conflicts
Steam Input injecting unrelated commands
When Steam is running, Steam Input can add a desktop layout or keyboard bindings on top of the SDL device. Symptoms include a wrestler responding correctly but menus opening as if keyboard shortcuts were pressed, or text appearing while you move a stick.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →PCSX2 documents two supported workarounds:
- Exit Steam completely before launching PCSX2.
- Keep Steam open but adjust its controller support and desktop layout so that no unwanted keyboard commands are sent to PCSX2.
Change one layer at a time. If closing Steam fixes the issue, restore Steam and edit its desktop configuration instead of rebuilding the PCSX2 profile. This preserves a known-good SDL mapping and identifies the injection layer as the cause.
Crashes associated with EZFRD64.dll
PCSX2 documents crashes caused by some controllers using the EZFRD64.dll driver. Do not install random third-party driver packages to “improve” compatibility. Remove or disable the problematic driver according to the device manufacturer’s support instructions, reconnect the controller, and test again with SDL. If the crash disappears only when that device is disconnected, use a controller with a normal operating-system driver or seek a current driver from the manufacturer.
Choose the graphics renderer
Start with Automatic
Open the global graphics settings or the game’s Properties, then set Graphics API to Automatic when you are unsure. PCSX2 says Automatic chooses an API based on your GPU and operating system, giving priority to stability and then accuracy. This is the documented baseline, not a performance tweak. The wording from PCSX2’s general documentation is: “When the Graphics API is set to Automatic, PCSX2 will choose which graphics API to use depending on your GPU and operating system. Priority is given to stability, then to accuracy. Always use this option if you are unsure.” See PCSX2 general graphics information.

Understand hardware and software modes
Hardware renderers use the GPU through a graphics API. Their speed, accuracy, driver behavior and operating-system support vary with the API and hardware. They are normally the sensible place to begin when you want an upscaled image. There is no evidence here that one current API is a universal WWE All Stars winner, so compare them by stability, visual accuracy, GPU load, driver support and the internal resolution you want to use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSoftware mode renders on the CPU. PCSX2 notes that it requires a strong CPU. It can be useful as a diagnostic when a hardware renderer shows a visual defect, but switching to software mode is not a free quality improvement: CPU load rises substantially, and a system that is fast in hardware mode may become slow.
| Choice | What PCSX2 documents | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | Selects an API according to GPU and operating system; stability is preferred, then accuracy. | First choice when you do not know which API is best, or when a manual selection causes instability. |
| Hardware API | GPU-rendered; speed, accuracy, driver behavior and platform support differ by API. | Normal play and internal-resolution upscaling after Automatic works. |
| Software | CPU-rendered and dependent on a strong CPU. | Troubleshooting a hardware-only rendering problem, not a default speed setting. |
Keep experiments per game
Use WWE All Stars’ Properties to change its renderer or other graphics options without altering every PS2 game. This makes troubleshooting reversible: leave your global settings at Automatic, test one change for this title, and remove it if it introduces stutter or visual errors. Write down the previous working value before each experiment so you can return to it without guessing.
Set internal resolution without overloading the system
PCSX2’s requirements documentation warns that GPU load depends substantially on the internal upscaling level and blending accuracy. A higher internal resolution can make edges look cleaner, but it consumes more GPU resources. If frame pacing is poor, return to the default or a lower resolution before changing advanced options.
- Run the game with Graphics API set to Automatic and the default internal resolution.
- Play a match long enough to observe entrances, menus and an active bout.
- If performance is stable, raise internal resolution one step in the game’s Properties.
- Test again. Stop increasing it when frame pacing deteriorates, audio breaks up or the emulator reports sustained slowdowns.
- Lower blending accuracy or other costly enhancements only after confirming that resolution is not the primary cause.
Test a repeatable scene after every change. A menu can appear smooth while entrances or a busy ring expose a GPU limit, so judge the setting during actual gameplay. If reducing resolution restores smoothness, keep the lower value instead of switching immediately to software mode. If the image remains defective at the default resolution, compare Automatic with one hardware API at a time and record which setting produces the artifact.

Slower computers may run the game, but the requirements page does not guarantee playability for them. Treat the emulator’s default graphics selection as the compatibility baseline and regard higher upscaling as optional. The amount of headroom needed for an upscale cannot be inferred from the game’s age alone.
What the historical compatibility test tells you

| Component | Reported value |
|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Core i5-6400 at 2.70 GHz |
| GPU | AMD Radeon R7 200 Series with 2 GB |

This is a historical data point, not a current benchmark. It does not establish that every Radeon R7 200 system, every Core i5-6400 configuration or every modern PCSX2 release will behave identically. Use it to understand that the PS2 title has had a successful Windows emulation configuration, then start from Automatic on your own machine. The old build number and test hardware should always remain attached to this claim; removing them would make the result sound more general than it is.

The controller is not listed
- Reconnect it and verify that Windows recognizes it before opening PCSX2.
- Close other remapping or virtual-controller programs.
- Return to Settings > Controllers and select SDL.
- If one driver causes crashes, investigate whether
EZFRD64.dllis installed with that device.
Buttons work, but the sticks or triggers do not
- Rerun Automatic Mapping and move each axis only when prompted.
- Check the result in the PS2 Pad Test homebrew, since PCSX2’s Qt and Big Picture interfaces have no built-in input tester.
- Test the controller in the game after saving the mapping; do not assume an on-screen assignment is correct.
- Check that the game expects analog input and that the correct stick, trigger or D-pad direction was assigned.
The custom profile appears to be ignored
Open WWE All Stars’ Properties and assign the profile there. A saved profile that remains Shared, or a profile assigned to another game, will not change this title’s controls.

The game runs slowly after a graphics change
- Restore Graphics API to Automatic.
- Lower internal resolution to the previous stable value.
- Undo blending-accuracy or other enhancement changes.
- Use the game’s Properties so the test does not affect the rest of your library.
- Do not switch to software mode expecting it to reduce load; software rendering is CPU-based and PCSX2 says it requires a strong CPU.
The picture has glitches but speed is fine
Record which hardware API is active, then test Automatic in the game’s Properties. If Automatic selects a different API and the defect disappears, keep that per-game setting. If it remains, compare hardware and software rendering briefly to determine whether the issue is API-specific; use software as a diagnostic rather than assuming it is the best permanent mode.
Steam changes menus or types unexpectedly
Exit Steam and retest. If the behavior stops, edit Steam’s controller support or desktop layout so it sends no keyboard commands to PCSX2. Do not alter SDL mapping until that external layer has been ruled out.
A controller makes PCSX2 crash
Disconnect the suspect device and test a normal operating-system controller through SDL. PCSX2’s documented EZFRD64.dll issue is a reason to inspect the device driver, not to add another unverified driver package.
A reliable first-session checklist
- Confirm whether your game is NTSC-U SLUS-21940 or PAL SLES-55648.
- Confirm that your legally obtained game image and PS2 BIOS are visible to PCSX2.
- Connect the controller and verify that the operating system sees it.
- In Settings > Controllers, select SDL.
- Run Automatic Mapping and test every control in a match.
- Keep the Shared profile unless WWE All Stars needs a different layout.
- If you create a custom profile, assign it through the game’s Properties.
- Use PS2 Pad Test when an axis or button remains uncertain.
- Set Graphics API to Automatic.
- Play at default internal resolution before enabling upscaling.
- Raise resolution one step at a time and keep changes per-game.
- If Steam sends keyboard commands, exit it or adjust its controller and desktop layout.
- If the emulator crashes with a particular controller, investigate the documented EZFRD64.dll driver issue instead of adding random drivers.
- Only after the baseline is stable, test multiplayer and any higher-quality graphics settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official native PC version of WWE All Stars?
The cited compatibility material documents the PlayStation 2 release running through PCSX2; it does not establish a native Windows edition. This guide therefore covers PS2 emulation, using legally obtained game media and the appropriate BIOS.
Which controller should I buy for WWE All Stars on PC?
No specific brand or model is tested by the cited sources. Choose a controller that Windows recognizes and that PCSX2 can access through SDL. Automatic Mapping should be your first configuration step.
Best Value
- Wired Controller, USB cable: 1.8M.
- Compatible with Switch (version 3.0.0 or above), Windows, Raspberry Pi devices.
- Rumble vibration.
- Support turbo function.
Why did my custom controller profile not change the game?
Saving a profile is not enough. Open WWE All Stars in PCSX2, choose Properties, and assign the custom profile to that game. Otherwise PCSX2 can continue using the Shared profile.
Should I choose Direct3D, another hardware API or software mode?
Set Graphics API to Automatic if you are unsure; PCSX2 prioritizes stability and then accuracy. Hardware APIs use the GPU and differ by driver and platform. Software mode uses the CPU and requires a strong CPU, so use it mainly to diagnose a hardware-rendering defect.
How much can I upscale WWE All Stars?
There is no title-specific modern limit in the cited material. Begin at the default internal resolution, then increase one step at a time in the game’s Properties. GPU load rises with internal resolution and blending accuracy, so keep the highest setting that preserves stable frame pacing and audio.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does the old compatibility result guarantee that my PC will run the game?
No. The report was last edited July 25, 2024 and used PCSX2 1.5.0 DEV 2445, an Intel Core i5-6400 at 2.70 GHz, an AMD Radeon R7 200 Series GPU with 2 GB and GSdx Direct3D 11 Hardware. It recorded full speed and no reported issues, including multiplayer, but it is historical evidence rather than a current guarantee.
Why does Steam make WWE All Stars respond to keyboard commands?
Steam Input can add desktop bindings on top of SDL. Exit Steam and test again, or adjust Steam’s controller support and desktop layout so it sends no unwanted keyboard commands to PCSX2.
What should I do if PCSX2 crashes when a controller is connected?
PCSX2 documents crashes associated with some devices using EZFRD64.dll. Avoid random third-party drivers; inspect or remove the problematic driver using the manufacturer’s guidance, then retest with SDL or another normally supported controller.
The Bottom Line
For WWE All Stars on PC, use PCSX2 with SDL and Automatic Mapping for the controller, assign any custom layout in the game’s Properties, and begin graphics configuration with Graphics API set to Automatic. Increase internal resolution only after a stable baseline is confirmed, and keep experiments per-game. The published full-speed result used PCSX2 1.5.0 DEV 2445 and a specific 2016-era test PC, so treat it as historical compatibility evidence rather than a guarantee for current hardware.
