Lost Odyssey does not have a documented official Microsoft PC release. The current PC configuration path described by the project documentation is Lost Odyssey Recomp, a community native port with Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android builds. Use the steps below for that project, not as settings for an Xbox or Microsoft PC edition.
You can configure a controller or keyboard, choose windowed or fullscreen output, select an aspect ratio and monitor/GPU, and tune anti-aliasing, upscaling, shadows, ambient occlusion, frame rate, HDR, and related options. The documentation lists the available controls but does not provide hardware-specific benchmarks, so the safest approach is to begin with your display’s native shape and output, then raise or lower visual quality until your computer sustains the frame-rate target you want.
Before you configure anything: use the right PC version
These instructions apply to Lost Odyssey Recomp. Its README describes a native port for Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android. They should not be presented as settings for an official Microsoft PC release.
Microsoft’s July 2026 Xbox Wire announcement about backward compatibility on PC named BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. Lost Odyssey was not among those four listed titles. The features described for that separate program—such as resolution scaling up to 4×, VSync, fullscreen and windowed modes, anisotropic filtering, and enhanced anti-aliasing—are not evidence of Lost Odyssey Recomp settings.
#1 Best Overall
- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Install and start the Recomp build appropriate for your operating system. The game starts with default settings; you can change them after launch, or open the Windows setup page before the game starts.
Open the settings menu
From the title menu
- Start the game and remain on the title screen.
- Press Y on a controller. On the keyboard, press S.
- Choose the category you want to change.
From the camp menu
- Enter the camp menu during play.
- Choose System.
- Select Settings.
Open setup before launching on Windows
On Windows, run the executable with this option:
LostOdysseyRecomp.exe --setup
This opens the setup page before the game starts, which is useful when the current display choice is unusable or you want to configure output before entering the game.
Configure a controller or keyboard
Open Settings → Gameplay → Controls. The page supports remapping controller buttons and keyboard keys, shows button prompts, and includes vibration strength. Controllers and keyboard input can be used together for player one, so a particular controller model is not required by the documentation.

Remap an input
- Open Settings → Gameplay → Controls.
- Highlight the action or binding you want to change.
- Press A on the controller or Enter on the keyboard to begin assignment.
- Press the controller button or keyboard key you want to use.
- Repeat for any other action, then test the layout in a menu and during play.
The project README lists default keyboard bindings and says they can be changed. Because keyboard play is supported, buying a controller is optional rather than a documented requirement. If you do use one, choose a device your operating system recognizes; the available documentation does not identify a required or tested model.
Rank #2
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Choose vibration and prompts
Use the Controls page’s vibration-strength setting to reduce or disable rumble if it is distracting, or increase it if feedback is too subtle. Keep the displayed button prompts in mind when switching between input devices: a controller prompt can appear while you are using a keyboard, because both types of input are supported for player one.
Choose windowed or fullscreen output
The installation guide documents two display modes:
| Mode | When to use it | Important behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Windowed | Useful for quick switching to other applications or for a desktop layout that does not match the game’s preferred output. | The game runs inside a resizable or configured window rather than taking over the display. |
| Fullscreen | Use when you want the game to occupy the selected display directly. | The selected monitor and GPU still matter on systems with more than one display or graphics processor. |
After changing the selected display, the game asks whether to keep the change. If you do not respond within five seconds, it reverts to the previous choice. Make the change while you can see the confirmation prompt and accept it immediately.

- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
| Choice | How it behaves | Best starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Auto | Fills the window. | Start here if you want the image to use the available window area and do not need a fixed shape. |
| 16:9 | Preserves a 16:9 image shape. If the display has another shape, black bars are added. | Most conventional widescreen displays. |
| 21:9 | Preserves a 21:9 image shape. Displays with a different shape receive black bars. | Ultrawide displays when you want a fixed ultrawide presentation. |
| 4:3 | Preserves a 4:3 image shape. Wider displays receive black bars. | Older 4:3 monitors or a deliberately narrow presentation. |
Practical selection order
- Identify the shape of the monitor on which the game will run.
- Choose the matching fixed ratio—16:9, 21:9, or 4:3—if preserving geometry is more important than filling every pixel.
- Choose Auto if filling the game window is your priority.
- Confirm the result visually. Black bars with a fixed ratio are expected when the monitor’s shape differs.
The documentation establishes these choices, but it does not define an independent best resolution for every GPU or monitor. Use the display’s native output as your starting point, then adjust quality or frame rate if your hardware cannot sustain the target you choose.
Select the monitor and GPU
On a multi-monitor or multi-GPU computer, the display settings let you select both the monitor and the graphics processor. Pick the screen you actually want to use and the GPU connected to or preferred for that screen.
- Open the display settings from the game’s Settings menu.
- Select the target monitor.
- Select the GPU you want the game to use.
- Apply the change.
- Restart the game when changing GPUs; the documentation says a GPU change takes effect after restart.
- If the game asks whether to keep a display change, accept it within five seconds.
If the image appears on the wrong screen after a change, return to the setup page or settings menu, select the intended display, and restart after a GPU change. Do not assume that changing the monitor alone changes which GPU renders the game.

| Option | What it controls | How to approach it |
|---|---|---|
| HDR | High-dynamic-range output where the configuration supports it. | Enable only when your display path and operating-system configuration are prepared for HDR; otherwise use standard output. |
| Brightness/gamma | Overall visibility and tonal balance. | Adjust after selecting the display mode so you are judging the final output rather than a temporary window. |
| FXAA, SMAA, TAA | Anti-aliasing methods that reduce jagged edges. | Try one method at a time and keep the one that gives the preferred clarity and motion appearance on your hardware. |
| DLSS, FSR, XeSS | Upscaling options on supported configurations. | Use only an option your hardware and build expose. Compare clarity at the same frame-rate target rather than assuming one is always superior. |
| Shadow resolution | Detail level of rendered shadows. | Lower it if you need to reduce visual workload while keeping the rest of the scene detailed. |
| Ambient occlusion | Shading around contact areas and corners. | Enable or raise it when added depth is worth the cost on your system. |
| Anisotropic filtering | Texture clarity at oblique viewing angles. | Use a higher setting when distant or angled surfaces look soft and your frame-rate target remains stable. |
| Depth of field | Focus blur that separates near and far parts of the scene. | Enable for the intended cinematic effect; disable if you prefer a uniformly sharp image. |
| Bloom | Glow around bright areas. | Enable or disable according to the look you prefer; it is a presentation choice rather than a required setting. |
| Frame rate | 30, 60, 90, or 120 FPS choices. | Choose the highest target your computer and display can sustain consistently, not simply the largest number shown. |
| VSync or compatible variable refresh rate | Synchronization between rendered frames and the display. | Use VSync for synchronized output, or a compatible variable-refresh-rate mode when your display and system support it. |
A sensible first-pass configuration
- Set the monitor and GPU first, then restart if the GPU changed.
- Choose fullscreen or windowed mode according to how you use the computer.
- Set Auto or the fixed aspect ratio matching your display.
- Use the display’s native output as the initial resolution choice.
- Choose a frame-rate target your system can sustain; 60 FPS is a practical starting target only if your hardware and display can maintain it. The documentation does not provide performance benchmarks.
- Enable one anti-aliasing method and, if supported, test an upscaler rather than enabling multiple reconstruction methods indiscriminately.
- Adjust shadow resolution, ambient occlusion, depth of field, bloom, brightness, gamma, and HDR to suit the balance of clarity, speed, and appearance you want.
- Change one or two settings at a time so you can identify which change affected image quality or smoothness.
This sequence is a decision method, not a benchmark-backed preset. Your sustained frame rate depends on your hardware, display, selected output, and the combination of effects you enable.
Understand first-launch shader preparation
When you first launch with a renderer, the game prepares shaders. The installation guide offers two paths:
- Download precompiled shaders: use the supplied compiled data so preparation can finish without compiling everything locally.
- Skip the download: let the computer compile shaders locally.
The first launch can therefore take longer than later starts. Once compiled, shaders are reused on subsequent launches. A later update that changes shaders can trigger preparation again. If the game appears to pause during the first renderer launch, allow the preparation to finish before treating the delay as a fault.

Settings choices by goal
If you want the correct image shape
- Use a fixed 16:9, 21:9, or 4:3 option matching the intended presentation.
- Accept black bars when the monitor’s shape differs; they indicate that the selected ratio is being preserved.
- Use Auto only when filling the window matters more than preserving a fixed shape.
If you want the clearest image
- Start at the display’s native output.
- Test FXAA, SMAA, and TAA separately.
- On supported hardware, compare DLSS, FSR, or XeSS at the same frame-rate target.
- Keep anisotropic filtering enabled or raised if angled textures look soft, then review the frame-rate result.
If you want a steadier frame rate
- Choose 30, 60, 90, or 120 FPS according to what the computer can sustain consistently.
- Reduce shadow resolution first if shadows are the expensive part of your chosen scene.
- Then consider lowering ambient occlusion, depth of field, or other effects.
- Use a supported upscaler when it improves performance without unacceptable loss of detail.
- Use VSync or a compatible variable-refresh-rate mode to match the display behavior you prefer.
If you want a cinematic presentation
- Use the display’s matching fixed aspect ratio.
- Consider depth of field and bloom according to your taste.
- Adjust brightness, gamma, and HDR only after the display mode and output are settled.
Troubleshoot common configuration problems
The game opens on the wrong monitor
- Open display settings.
- Select the intended monitor.
- Confirm the change within five seconds when prompted.
- If you changed the GPU, restart the game because that change does not take effect until restart.
The picture has black bars
Black bars are expected when a fixed 16:9, 21:9, or 4:3 ratio is used on a display with a different shape. Switch to Auto if filling the window is more important, or keep the fixed ratio if preserving image geometry is the priority.

The first launch takes much longer than later launches
Check whether shader preparation is running. Download precompiled shaders or allow local compilation to finish. Later launches reuse compiled shaders, although a shader-changing update can start preparation again.
The frame rate is below the selected target
- Verify that the intended GPU is selected.
- Use the display’s native output only if the system can sustain the chosen target there.
- Lower shadow resolution or ambient occlusion.
- Reduce depth of field or bloom if those effects are not important to you.
- Try a supported DLSS, FSR, or XeSS mode.
- Select a lower frame-rate target—30, 60, 90, or 120 FPS—that the system can maintain consistently.
The available documentation does not establish which setting is the bottleneck on a particular GPU, so change settings incrementally rather than applying a claimed universal preset.
The controls do not match the buttons you expect
- Open Settings → Gameplay → Controls.
- Select the affected binding.
- Press A or Enter to begin reassignment.
- Press the desired controller button or keyboard key.
- Check the displayed prompts and test the action in play.
Keyboard and controller input can coexist for player one. If you prefer not to use a controller, remap the keyboard bindings instead.

Use this order whenever you install a new build, move to another monitor, or need to recover from an unsuitable display choice:
- Launch normally, or use
LostOdysseyRecomp.exe --setupon Windows if you need pre-launch access. - Set the monitor and GPU.
- Restart if the GPU changed.
- Choose windowed or fullscreen mode.
- Set Auto or the matching fixed aspect ratio.
- Set the native display output as your initial resolution.
- Choose a realistic frame-rate target from 30, 60, 90, or 120 FPS.
- Choose VSync or compatible variable refresh rate.
- Select anti-aliasing and, when available, an upscaler.
- Tune shadow resolution, ambient occlusion, anisotropic filtering, depth of field, bloom, HDR, brightness, and gamma.
- Complete shader preparation on the first renderer launch.
- Test controller or keyboard bindings in menus and gameplay, then adjust vibration strength if needed.
This workflow keeps input, image geometry, display routing, and rendering quality separate, making it easier to identify the cause of a problem instead of changing several unrelated options at once.
