Use the Xbox Accessories app to remap supported buttons and save the result as a controller profile. Connect the XBOX Nano Controller, select it in the app, choose Configure, then edit or create a profile and test it in your game. Microsoft documents button mapping for the Nano on Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11.
Stick-sensitivity, deadzone, and vibration-strength sliders are different: the official Nano product and Store information does not confirm dedicated Nano controls for them. For those adjustments, use the individual game’s controller settings when available. Vibration is normally controlled by the game; Microsoft’s developer API exposes motor values, but it is not a consumer-facing Nano settings screen.
What you can configure
The Nano’s documented customization is button mapping through Xbox Accessories. You can assign supported inputs, save the arrangement in a profile, and switch back to the default layout when needed. The app’s feature set should not be assumed to match every control offered by larger Xbox Elite or Adaptive models.

Before you open Xbox Accessories
Choose the connection you need
Xbox Wireless is supported with Xbox consoles. Bluetooth is listed for Windows 10/11 PCs, tablets, iOS, Android, and compatible smart TVs. Microsoft’s Store listing also names Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11, Android, and iOS. The exact pairing screen varies by host device, so connect the controller to the device on which you intend to configure and test it.

Prepare a USB-C cable for Windows configuration
Microsoft specifies a compatible USB-C cable for using Xbox Accessories on Windows. The Nano contains an internal rechargeable battery, but the USB-C charging cable is required and sold separately. If the controller does not appear in the Windows app over Bluetooth, connect it with a compatible cable, allow Windows to recognize it, and reopen Xbox Accessories.
Update the host and app
Use the current Xbox Accessories app offered for your Xbox or Windows installation. If the controller is missing, first confirm that the host sees it as connected, then close and relaunch the app. Do not create a profile until the Nano is shown as the selected device; otherwise you may edit a different connected controller.

Remap buttons and save a profile
- Connect the Nano. Pair it with the Xbox console or supported Bluetooth host. On Windows, use the compatible USB-C cable specified by Microsoft if the app does not detect the controller wirelessly.
- Open Xbox Accessories. On a console, launch the Xbox Accessories app from the apps area. On Windows 10 or 11, open the installed Xbox Accessories app.
- Select the controller. Choose XBOX Nano Controller from the connected-device list. If more than one controller is attached, verify the name before changing anything.
- Choose Configure. The configuration page is where Xbox exposes supported assignments and profiles for the selected device.
- Edit or create a profile. Open an existing profile to change it, or choose the option to create a new profile. Assign only the controls the app presents for the Nano; an option shown on another Xbox controller is not automatically available here.
- Save the profile. Commit the changes in the app before leaving the configuration screen. Give the profile a meaningful name if the app offers naming, such as “Racing” or “Left-hand layout.”
- Test in the intended game. Check every remapped input in an actual match or practice area. A game can apply its own control scheme, so an assignment that is valid in Xbox Accessories may behave differently if the game intercepts or redefines that input.
Using the programmable Action Button
Xbox Wire describes the Nano as having a programmable Action Button. Microsoft gives examples including screenshots, gameplay capture, and other shortcuts. Treat this as a separate programmable control: configure the functions the Xbox Accessories interface actually lists for your connected Nano, then test the shortcut on the target platform.

Can you change stick sensitivity or deadzones?
What Microsoft has documented
The official Nano product and Store pages do not document a Nano-specific stick-sensitivity slider, sensitivity preset, or deadzone editor in Xbox Accessories. That is an evidence limit, not proof that every future app version will lack the feature. Claims that Xbox Accessories universally exposes sensitivity controls should not be applied to the Nano without Nano-specific Microsoft documentation.
Where to look instead
- Open the game’s Settings, Options, or Controller menu.
- Look for labels such as Aim sensitivity, Look sensitivity, Camera sensitivity, Horizontal/vertical sensitivity, or Deadzone.
- Adjust one value at a time and test in a low-risk practice area.
- If the game offers separate left- and right-stick settings, change the stick that controls movement or camera aim rather than changing both by default.
- Save the game’s control profile independently of the Xbox Accessories profile.
Game-level sensitivity changes do not alter the Nano’s hardware. They affect how a particular title interprets stick input, which is why the same controller can feel fast in one game and slow in another. If a title has no sensitivity or deadzone option, the Nano’s documented Xbox Accessories controls do not provide a confirmed substitute.

Can you lower or disable vibration?
For ordinary players
The official Nano pages do not document a dedicated vibration-strength slider in Xbox Accessories. Start in the game’s own Settings, Controller, or Gameplay menu and look for Vibration, Controller vibration, or Rumble. Turn the option off to disable feedback, or choose a lower level when the game offers intensity choices.
Because vibration is commonly controlled by the application, a change made in one game may not carry into another. Recheck the setting after changing titles, profiles, or platforms. If the game has no vibration control, there is no Nano-specific strength control documented by Microsoft that you can safely substitute.

What the Windows API means
Microsoft’s UWP documentation describes vibration through the Gamepad.Vibration property. The left and right motor intensities are represented on a scale from 0.0, meaning none, to 1.0, meaning maximum. This is an application-programming interface: a developer can set motor values in software, but it is not a consumer-facing Nano configuration page in Xbox Accessories. Do not interpret the API scale as evidence of a hidden slider in the app.
Profiles, games, and platform behavior
Keep controller and game profiles separate
An Xbox Accessories profile changes the assignments exposed by the controller. A game’s controller profile changes how that title interprets those inputs. If both are customized, record the changes in both places. When troubleshooting, temporarily restore the game’s default layout, test the controller profile, and then add game-specific changes one at a time.
Use a simple test sequence
- Test the original button before remapping it.
- Apply one assignment and save.
- Check it in the console or Windows interface, then in the game.
- Test the old destination button as well, because remapping can change which action it sends.
- Restore the default profile if the result is confusing, then rebuild the layout gradually.
Troubleshooting common problems
The Nano does not appear in Xbox Accessories
- Confirm that it is paired with the same Xbox console or supported Bluetooth host running the app.
- On Windows, connect a compatible USB-C cable, wait for device recognition, and relaunch Xbox Accessories.
- Disconnect other controllers temporarily so you cannot select the wrong device.
- Restart the app and reconnect the controller before attempting to create a profile.
The mapping saved but does not work in a game
- Verify that the intended Nano profile is active.
- Check whether the game has its own controller layout that overrides or conflicts with the assignment.
- Test the input in another game or in the platform interface to separate a controller-profile issue from a game-specific issue.
- Restore the default game layout, retest, and then reapply only the required remap.
Sensitivity changes seem to do nothing
Xbox Accessories does not have a Nano-specific sensitivity control documented in the official product information. Make the change in the game’s controller, aim, camera, or deadzone menu instead. If the game lacks those settings, do not expect a controller profile assignment to create a sensitivity adjustment.
Vibration remains on
- Check the current game’s vibration or rumble setting.
- Confirm that you changed the setting for the active game profile and platform.
- Test a title with a clearly documented vibration toggle to determine whether the behavior is game-specific.
- Do not use the UWP motor scale as though it were an Xbox Accessories slider; it is intended for application developers.

Xbox Wire quoted James Hunter, General Manager, Xbox Accessories, describing the controller as “designed to fit nearly every pocket and budget.” That compact design explains why the Nano’s documented customization should be checked directly in the app rather than inferred from feature lists for physically larger Xbox models.
