To configure BattlEye Extended Controls (BEC) for a DayZ dedicated server, first create a matching RConPort and RConPassword in the server’s active BattlEye folder, then point BEC’s Port and BePath at those exact values and launch BEC with -f Config.cfg --dsc. Test the RCon connection before enabling automated kicks, bans, messages, or restarts. BEC is a third-party RCon utility: its maintainer documents DayZ Standalone support because the RCon protocol has changed little since the ArmA versions, but Bohemia Interactive does not provide a compatibility guarantee for the utility.
What BEC does on a DayZ server
BattlEye Extended Controls is an external Windows utility that logs in to a DayZ server through BattlEye RCon. Once connected, it can read server events, issue administrative commands, broadcast messages, load administrator and command permissions, and run scheduled actions from an XML file. It is not the DayZ server itself and it does not replace BattlEye; it is an automation and administration layer around the RCon interface.
The BEC project was originally created for ArmA 2 and ArmA 3. Its documentation says it continues to work with DayZ Standalone because the RCon protocol has not changed substantially. Treat that as maintainer documentation rather than an official Bohemia Interactive compatibility statement. Keep a manual administration method available until you have confirmed that your particular DayZ build, hosting environment, and BEC version work together.
Prerequisites and the correct file locations
Run the DayZ dedicated server at least once with BattlEye enabled before configuring BEC. The first run creates, or confirms, the active BattlEye directory used by that server instance. Bohemia Interactive’s server-configuration material identifies this area as the location for BattlEye files, logs, and RCon-related files. Do not assume that a folder named BattlEye elsewhere on the machine is the one your running instance uses.

Prepare the server instance
- Start the DayZ server and allow it to finish initialization.
- Locate the BattlEye directory created or used by that instance.
- Make a backup of the directory before changing configuration.
- If the machine hosts several DayZ instances, record each instance’s BattlEye path separately.
BEC itself can be placed in a separate folder, such as C:ServersDayZBEC. Its configuration files do not have to be inside the BattlEye directory, but the BePath setting must point to the active BattlEye directory. A copied or stale BattlEye folder will cause connection and log-reading failures even when its name looks correct.
Create BEServer_x64.cfg
In the active BattlEye directory, create or edit BEServer_x64.cfg. BattlEye requires both an RCon port and an RCon password. The RCon port must be different from every DayZ game-server port used by that instance.

RConPassword change-this-to-a-long-unique-secret2305 is an example, not a universal value. It is commonly shown as game port 2302 plus three, but you must check that the port is unused on your host and allowed by the host firewall. Replace the example password with a long, unique secret; never publish it in a support post, commit it to a public repository, or reuse it for another server.
Rules for multiple instances
Every DayZ instance on the same machine needs its own RCon port and password. For example, one instance might use port 2305 and another 2405, provided those ports are free and routed to the correct process. The corresponding BEC process for each instance must use the matching port and BattlEye path. A port collision can make one process appear to connect intermittently or can prevent the second instance from starting its RCon listener.

Configure BEC’s Config.cfg
Copy the BEC distribution to its own folder and edit ConfigConfig.cfg. The maintained example uses the following core settings:

Timeout = 10Change each value to match your layout. The critical relationships are that Port equals RConPort in BEServer_x64.cfg, and BePath identifies the BattlEye directory used by the running DayZ instance.

The example also exposes optional controls such as AutoLoadBans, KickLobbyIdlers, ChatChannelFiles, and SlotLimit. Enable optional controls one at a time, record the policy change, and observe the logs before adding another. An automatic kick or ban policy can affect legitimate players and may be restricted on public-hive servers.
Keep the supporting files together
Make sure Admins.xml, Commands.xml, and Scheduler.xml are in the location expected by your BEC configuration, or replace the filenames with valid paths. Relative paths are interpreted from BEC’s configuration context, so an apparently correct filename can still fail when BEC is started from a different working directory. If you use a custom folder layout, test each path by checking the BEC log for file-loading errors.

Start BEC with the required flags
Launch BEC from its own directory. The project README requires the configuration-file and detached-start flags shown below:
cd /d C:ServersDayZBEC
start "BEC" Bec.exe -f Config.cfg --dsc- Open a command prompt on the server.
- Change to the folder containing
Bec.exe; the/dswitch also changes drives when necessary. - Run the command with
-f Config.cfg --dsc. - Watch the BEC log and the DayZ/BattlEye console for a successful RCon connection.
- Only after the connection succeeds, test an administrative command and then enable scheduler actions.
The README describes both a dedicated batch file and an integrated server-start script. Whichever method you choose, preserve the same working directory and flags. Starting Bec.exe by double-clicking it, or omitting either flag, can make BEC read the wrong configuration or fail to detach correctly.

Missing bans.txt
If BEC reports that a bans file is missing, create bans.txt in the active BattlEye directory as described by the BEC documentation, then restart BEC and check the log. Put the file in the BattlEye directory used by the running instance; creating it in an unused backup directory will not resolve the error.
Build a safe Scheduler.xml
Scheduler.xml controls timed messages and shutdown-related tasks. The BEC project includes a sample schedule with restart warnings. Replace its sample times and messages with values appropriate to your server; do not assume that a noon-and-midnight example matches your timezone, player peak periods, or host maintenance window.

A practical scheduling sequence
- Choose a maintenance time in the timezone used by the server and document that timezone for administrators.
- Send a warning message early enough for players to finish combat or move to safety.
- Send one or more shorter countdown messages as the restart approaches.
- Issue the shutdown or restart action only after the final warning.
- Allow enough startup time for the DayZ process and BEC to reconnect before advertising the server as available.
Test the scheduler with a near-term, low-impact message before testing a shutdown. Confirm that BEC remains connected after the DayZ process restarts and that the control panel or service manager does not launch a second BEC process accidentally.

Validate the installation before automating enforcement
Use this order so a policy problem is not confused with a connectivity problem:
- Server directory: DayZ starts with BattlEye enabled and uses the BattlEye directory you recorded.
- RCon credentials:
BEServer_x64.cfgcontains a uniqueRConPortandRConPassword; the port is not a game-server port. - Exact match: BEC’s
PortequalsRConPort, andBePathpoints to that same active directory. - Files:
Admins.xml,Commands.xml, andScheduler.xmlare present where BEC expects them. Createbans.txtif the BEC version requires it. - Launch: BEC is started with
-f Config.cfg --dscfrom its own directory. - Connection: Logs show a successful RCon connection before you schedule kicks, bans, or restarts.
- Policy: Confirm that each automated action is permitted by the applicable public-hive rules and your hosting agreement.
Troubleshoot common BEC failures
BEC says the connection is refused or times out
- Compare BEC’s
Portcharacter-for-character withRConPort. - Confirm that DayZ is running and BattlEye has loaded the configuration.
- Check that another process is not already using the RCon port.
- For a local installation, set
Ip = 127.0.0.1unless your layout deliberately uses another local address. - For a remote installation, verify routing and firewall rules for the RCon port, and restrict the source address to the BEC host.
- Restart the DayZ server after changing
BEServer_x64.cfg, then restart BEC.
BEC connects but cannot read logs or issue commands
- Check
BePathagainst the active BattlEye folder shown by the running instance. - Look for a duplicate BattlEye directory created by a previous server installation, profile, or backup.
- Verify that the Windows account running BEC can read the directory and write the files BEC is expected to update.
- Confirm that
Admins.xmlandCommands.xmlare loaded without XML syntax errors.
The password is rejected
Re-enter the same password in BEServer_x64.cfg that the BEC configuration expects for the RCon session, checking for accidental spaces or quotation marks. Change the password to a new unique value if it may have been exposed, then restart the DayZ server and BEC so the new credentials are active.
The scheduler does nothing
- Confirm that
Scheduler = Scheduler.xmlpoints to the file you edited. - Check the BEC log for a scheduler-file loading error.
- Verify the schedule’s time format and the server’s system timezone.
- Run a test message a few minutes in the future before testing a restart task.
- Ensure that BEC is still connected; a schedule cannot execute through a dead RCon session.
BEC works manually but fails after a reboot
Use a dedicated batch file, service wrapper, or hosting-panel startup task that starts DayZ first and BEC second. Preserve the BEC working directory and the -f Config.cfg --dsc arguments. Add a delay or health check if the host starts BEC before BattlEye has opened its RCon listener. Check for duplicate processes after recovery from a crash.

Choose a deployment model

For one instance, a local BEC process is generally simpler because it avoids exposing RCon beyond the server host. For several instances, run a separate, clearly named BEC configuration for each one and keep the port, path, credentials, and scheduler files paired. Do not point two BEC processes at one instance unless you have a specific reason and have verified that the utility handles it safely.
Manual startup versus provider-managed startup
A manual batch file gives you control over order, delays, and log locations. A hosting control panel may offer automatic process monitoring and scheduled restarts, but its labels and permissions vary. If a panel launches DayZ, use the panel’s actual BattlEye path in BePath and confirm whether the panel already performs restarts; running both a panel restart schedule and a BEC restart schedule can produce duplicate shutdowns.
Public-hive restrictions you must check
Bohemia Interactive’s public-hive rules state that several BEC/RCon functions are restricted on Public Hive servers. The listed restricted functions are whitelist, ban, kick, autokick, and slot reserve. The same rules limit restart behavior to no more than five restarts per day and prohibit restarts for loot farming or character-integrity protection. Those statements are from version 12.18 of the cited rules; verify the current rule set and your game-server provider’s terms before enabling any automated enforcement.
Do not assume that a command succeeding technically means it is allowed operationally. On a public hive, disable restricted commands or obtain the required approval before adding them to Commands.xml or a scheduler. Private-hive servers may have different permissions, but they still need to follow the current provider agreement and any applicable DayZ rules.
Security and maintenance practices
- Use a long RCon password unique to each DayZ instance.
- Keep
BEServer_x64.cfg, BEC XML files, and logs out of publicly served web directories. - Restrict remote RCon access by firewall source address rather than opening the port to the entire internet.
- Back up configuration and scheduler files before editing them.
- Review BEC and BattlEye logs after updates, restarts, and policy changes.
- Document which BEC process belongs to which DayZ instance, including its path, port, and schedule.
- Test recovery: stop BEC, restart the DayZ process, and verify that your startup method reconnects only once.

The dependable configuration is the one in which the active BattlEye directory, BEC port, RCon port, credentials, supporting XML files, startup command, and server policy all agree. Validate that chain in the logs before turning on automated administration.
