Tarkov’s so-called “GPS tracker quest” is the Lightkeeper task Following the Bread Crumbs. You do not need to buy or equip a real GPS device. Complete the 20-Raider elimination stage first; only then do the two Lab search objectives appear. After recovering the secured tape from the manager’s office, hand it to Lightkeeper to finish the task and receive one Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit (GPSA).
Identify the quest before you plan the raid
Players often call this task the “GPS tracker quest” because its reward is a Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit. That nickname is not the in-game title. The quest identified in current community-maintained references is Following the Bread Crumbs, a Lightkeeper task.
The GPSA is listed as the reward, not as equipment you must purchase or carry to unlock the objectives. Nothing in the listed task data indicates that a real-world GPS receiver, a special peripheral, or a printed guide is required. Treat the item name as game terminology.
The objective chain is staged. The two Lab searches are not necessarily visible when you first accept or inspect the task. They are reported to appear after the Raider elimination requirement is complete. If you enter The Lab expecting every marker immediately, you can mistake a normal progression gate for a bug.

Because prerequisites, access requirements, and exact routing can change with patches, use the active objective text in your own client as the authority for the run. The available quest references do not establish every prerequisite, required keycard, or a guaranteed route through a particular raid.
The objective sequence
Work through the objectives in the order the task exposes them:
- Eliminate 20 Raiders. The available reference does not establish a single map or route for this stage, so confirm the currently active location and counting rules in the client.
- Search the weapon-testing area in The Lab. This search objective is reported to appear after the Raider count is complete.
- Search the human-experiment room in The Lab. It is the second staged search objective and is likewise tied to completion of the elimination stage.
- Obtain the secured tape inside the manager’s office in The Lab. This is a recovery objective, not merely an area search; make sure the tape is actually registered as obtained.
- Bring the tape to Lightkeeper. The hand-in completes the listed work and awards one Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit.
Use the objective text and completion indicators rather than memory or a third-party checklist. A marker that is absent before its trigger is expected; a marker that remains absent after the trigger requires troubleshooting.

Confirm the task identity and state
Open the task list in the game client and select Following the Bread Crumbs. Check whether the elimination stage is active, whether a numeric counter is displayed, and whether either Lab search is listed. If another quest with similar wording is selected, its markers and counters may not correspond to this chain.
Read the current objective wording exactly. Community pages can lag a patch, while the client reflects the edition and server state you are actually playing. If your client shows an additional prerequisite or a different location, follow that live text and do not force the older sequence.
Separate known requirements from unknown ones
The available references verify the five tasks above but do not verify a complete prerequisite list, keycard requirement, access item, or safe route. Do not spend money on a supposed GPS device or assume that a particular key is mandatory unless your client or a current, reliable game reference explicitly says so.

Make a short pre-raid note with three fields: the active stage, the required destination, and what must be confirmed before extraction or hand-in. This prevents you from treating an optional map marker as proof that the game has registered progress.
Prepare for verification, not guesswork
- Screenshot or note the starting counter for the Raider stage if you are unsure whether a previous raid credited eliminations.
- After each relevant action, check the task panel for a changed counter or completed objective.
- Keep the secured tape in the inventory state required by the client until the delivery stage is shown; do not assume that merely touching the office completes the hand-in.
- Plan to confirm Lightkeeper’s delivery prompt before leaving the final interaction area.
Step-by-step completion
1. Finish the 20-Raider stage
Start with the elimination objective while it is the only active stage or the stage shown as incomplete. The retrieved quest data does not identify a definitive map for these Raiders, so select the location and route from the current client objective rather than from a remembered guide.
Count only eliminations that the game credits to the task. A kill feed entry or a personal tally is not enough if the task counter does not move. At a safe moment after an engagement, open the task panel and verify the number. If it remains unchanged, record the raid and circumstances instead of assuming the count will correct itself later.
Do not begin diagnosing missing Lab markers until the counter reaches 20 and the client marks that requirement complete. The staged searches are reported to unlock after this threshold. Entering The Lab early may be useful for another reason, but it cannot substitute for the trigger.
2. Confirm that the Lab searches have unlocked
Once the Raider requirement is complete, return to the task panel before committing to the Lab run. Look for the weapon-testing-area search and the human-experiment-room search. If both appear, the progression gate has worked and you can plan the Lab visit around the live markers.
If they do not appear, first verify that the counter really reached 20, that the task is still active, and that you are viewing the correct quest. Refreshing a map website will not change the game’s task state. If the client still shows the elimination stage as incomplete, continue with credited eliminations rather than searching randomly.

3. Search the weapon-testing area
Use the objective’s wording and any in-client marker to identify the weapon-testing area. The source material does not establish a room number, landmark sequence, or guaranteed path, so avoid presenting a memorized route as universal. The practical goal is to enter the designated area and wait for the search interaction or completion indicator supplied by the game.
After the search interaction, verify that the objective changes state before moving to the next location. If the area appears correct but the task does not update, re-read the objective name, check that the Raider stage is complete, and look for a more specific interaction prompt. A web marker can be offset or outdated; the client’s completion text is the decisive check.
4. Search the human-experiment room
Proceed to the room identified by the second search objective. Treat “human-experiment room” as the task’s label, not as permission to search every laboratory room. Follow the active marker when available and confirm the interaction in the objective panel.

Do not combine the two searches into one assumed completion. The references list them separately, so each should show its own state change. If the first search is complete but the second remains active, return to the second objective rather than repeating the first.
5. Recover the secured tape from the manager’s office
After the search objectives are complete, locate the manager’s office specified by the active task. The required item is secured tape. Entering the office, seeing a container, or touching an unrelated object is not the same as obtaining the quest item; wait for the game to register the tape.
Check the inventory and objective panel immediately after the interaction. If the tape is not shown as secured or obtained, do not assume that a later hand-in will repair the state. Reattempt the interaction when safe, confirm that the correct office is selected by the marker, and make sure the preceding searches are marked complete.

Protect the tape after recovery. The available data does not define the exact failure behavior for losing it, so follow the client’s item status and avoid discarding, selling, or moving it into an unapproved location before delivery.

With the tape registered as obtained, follow the task’s delivery instruction to Lightkeeper. The final action is a hand-in, not another Lab search. Interact with Lightkeeper and wait for the task panel to show completion and the reward notification.
Do not judge success solely by reaching the Lightkeeper area. The quest is complete only when the client accepts the tape and records the reward. If the interaction is unavailable, check that the tape is still present in the required state and that every preceding objective is marked complete.

How to plan the Lab portion without an unreliable route
The verified information identifies three Lab destinations but does not provide a complete room-by-room route. That limitation matters because a route that is safe on one patch, server state, or spawn can be wrong on another. Build your plan around objective confirmation rather than a fixed sequence of corridors.
- Before queuing, confirm that both search objectives are visible and that the Raider requirement is complete.
- Record the exact labels shown by the client: weapon-testing area, human-experiment room, and manager’s office.
- Use the client marker, map knowledge you personally trust, or an optional web map to orient yourself, but do not substitute a marker for the interaction prompt.
- When you reach a destination, complete and verify that objective before moving on.
- After the tape is secured, check its status and plan the Lightkeeper delivery as a separate final stage.
This method is slower than following an unverified speed route, but it prevents the most expensive mistake in a staged quest: spending a raid looking for an objective that has not unlocked.

Two kinds of community utilities can help, but they solve different problems and neither changes the underlying task state.

Choose a map locator when your problem is physical orientation. Choose a tracker when you need a personal checklist across several quests or items. If freshness matters, compare the utility’s update note with the patch you are running. The available descriptions do not establish comparative accuracy, pricing, or broader privacy claims beyond the quest tracker’s statement that progress is stored locally in the browser.
When a marker or counter still looks wrong
The Raider counter is not moving
Verify that Following the Bread Crumbs is selected, that the elimination stage is active, and that the client has recorded the required type of enemy. If the number remains unchanged after a raid, preserve the exact objective text and check again before changing maps or buying equipment. The available references do not define every counting edge case, so do not infer a hidden rule from a single uncredited kill.
The Lab searches are absent after 20
Confirm that the task panel marks the elimination stage complete rather than merely showing a personal total of 20. Reopen the task, check for a different prerequisite displayed by your edition, and restart the client only as a basic state-refresh measure. A third-party marker cannot unlock a server-side objective.

Check that you are at the destination named by the active objective, perform the interaction, and wait for the completion indicator. If another search is complete, do not assume that both share one trigger. If the marker conflicts with the room label, trust the client text and document the discrepancy for a current community report instead of repeatedly searching unrelated rooms.
The tape is not accepted by Lightkeeper
Return to the task panel and verify that the item was registered as obtained and that both searches are complete. The delivery step requires the secured tape, so an office visit without a recorded item will not satisfy it. If all states are complete but the hand-in remains unavailable, check the client for an additional live prerequisite; the available quest references do not establish a universal prerequisite list.
Patch and data-freshness cautions
The objective sequence comes from community-maintained references, not a guaranteed permanent rule set. Quest pages and map tools can lag a game update. A dated third-party notice about a map’s patch 1.1.0.0 data or GPS-style player-position feature describes that website, not an official change to Tarkov’s mechanics.
For every run, use this priority order:
- The active objective and counter in your game client.
- The interaction prompt and completion state shown during the raid.
- A current community map or tracker for orientation and personal organization.
- Older guides, screenshots, or remembered routes only as background context.
This order keeps a stale marker from overriding the state that actually controls your progression.

If every item in this checklist is true, the “GPS tracker” wording has done its job as a nickname, but no real GPS hardware was ever part of the completion process.
